Late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa is getting a biopic made in Tamil and Hindi as ‘Thalaivi’. Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut plays the lead role in the film and AL Vijay is directing it. Arvind Swamy is also essaying a major role as MGR. After being in the making for over a year, the makers have finally wrapped up shoot.

On the last day of his shoot, Arvind Swamy took to his social media handle to share a photo in which veteran Pattanam Rasheed is seen applying makeup on him to look like MGR. The actor thanked Rasheed for helping him to get as close as possible to the beauty and charm of MGR. His tweet reads,

The man working his magic on me for the last time in this film to get me as close as possible to the beauty and charm of Puratchi Thalaivar – ty Rashid sir..? Last day of shoot #Thalaivi

Earlier on MGR’s birth anniversary, the makers had shared a teaser featuring MGR’s popular song ‘Naan Ungal Veetu Pillai’ with Arvind Swami’s performance in it. The actor looked strikingly similar to MGR and it was the National-award winning Pattanam Rasheed who was behind the look.

Suriya is all praise of Kalidas’ segment Thangam in Paava Kadhaigal

Netflix’s maiden Tamil anthology film ‘Paava Kadhaigal’ is all set for release tomorrow (December 18). Gautham Menon, Vetrimaaran, Sudha Kongara and Vignesh Shivan are helming a short film each in this four-part anthology. ‘Paava Kadhaigal’, which translates to sin stories, has four storylines that will showcase how love, pride, sin and honour influence complex human relationships.

Actor Suriya recently got to catch a special screening of the film and it seems like he is highly impressed by it. He took to his Twitter handle to share his thoughts on the film. He has written about how refreshing it is to see fresh content being made. He has tweeted,

Suriya specially mentioned about Sudha Kongara’s segment ‘Thangam’ that stars Kalidas Jayaram, Shanthanu Bhagyaraj and Bhavani Sre. His tweet reads,

In a recent interview, director Gautham Menon also had words of appreciation for Sudha’s film ‘Thangam’. The film has Kalidas Jayaram essaying the central character of a trans person. Gautham Menon praised how beautifully the trans angle is depicted in the film.

As confirmed by the directors themselves, ‘Paava Kadhaigal’ will be a very intense film with several hard-hitting moments in it. Vignesh Shivan’s film titled as ‘Love Panna Uttranum’ stars Anjali and Bollywood actress Kalki Koechlin as the leads. In Vetrimaaran’s film, ‘Or Iravu’, Sai Pallavi and Prakash Raj essay the major roles. Gautham Menon’s film has been titled as ‘Vaanmagal’ and it has the director himself playing the main lead along with Simran.

After the sensational success of ‘KGF: Chapter 1’, Hombale Films have been keen on doing massive big-scale projects with top stars. They had recently announced a pan-Indian film titled ‘Salaar’ with Prabhas. ‘KGF’ director Prashanth Neel will be helming that film as well.

Hombale Films have announced their next. They have roped in Kannada star Sri Muralii for a new film titled ‘Bhageera’. The actor is celebrating his birthday today and the makers have taken this special occasion to make this announcement. Prashanth Neel has written the story and it will be directed by Dr Suri.

From the first look poster, ‘Bhageera’ looks like a cop action-thriller. Hombale Films announced the project through their Twitter handle. Along with the poster, it has been written,

The Covid-19 pandemic has proven to be a major booster for streaming platforms in India. As theatres across the country have been shut for over several months now, the general public has been showing great interest towards OTTs. This year, witnessed several big star films getting released directly in OTTs.

According to a list released by Let’s OTT Global, Sushanth Singh Rajput’s ‘Dil Bechara’ is the most watched film in India this year. The film got released in Disney + Hotstar exactly a month after the actor’s shocking demise. As a mark of respect to the late actor, Hotstar made the film available for both subscribers and non-subscribers. The response was unprecedented as lakhs of people watched the film in the opening day itself.

Kadamkadhayai: Arjun Ashokan lends his voice for the theme song of Indrajith’s Aaha

Actor Indrajith Sukumaran celebrates his birthday today and on this special occasion, the makers of his new film ‘Aaha’ have released the first song video online. Titled as ‘Kadamkadhayai’, it is the film’s theme song. Actor Arjun Ashokan has lent his voice for the track and Sayanora Philip has composed it. Jubith Namradath has penned the lyrics.

‘Aaha’ is a sports flick based on Kerala’s very own sport, ‘tug of war’ aka ‘vadamvali’. Debutant Bibin Paul Samuel is directing the film and Tobit Chirayath has scripted it. The film is inspired from a famous team ‘Aaha Neeloor’ from Pala. In the 2008 season, the team had won a staggering 72 matches out of the 73 they played. The story is centered around the team’s journey in two different timelines.

Along with Indrajith, the film also stars Manoj K Jayan, Amit Chakalakkal and Ashwin K Kumar in major roles. Santhy Balachandran of ‘Tharangam’ and ‘Jallikattu’ fame plays the female lead.

The teaser of Siju Wilson’s new film ‘Innu Muthal’ has been released online. The film is written and directed By Rejishh Midhila. The 1.33-minute long teaser looks interesting with an unique concept. It seems like the film has elements of magical realism. From the teaser, we presume that ‘Kumbalangi Nights’ fame Suraj Pops appears as the incarnation of God in the film.

The cast also includes Uday Chandra, Smrithi Sugathan, Gokulan, Indrans, Navas Vallikkunnu, Kottayam Ramesh, Leji Joseph, Anil Perumbalam, Dileep Lokre, Hhary Jo, Alex Parappuram, Kaushik Menon, Jofi Tharakan, Uthara, Master Achun, Mohanan Panavally and others.

Rejissh Midhila has previously directed the Jayasurya starrer ‘Lal Bahadur Shastri’ and ‘Vaarikuzhiyile Kolapathakam’ with Amit Chakkalakkal. He has also produced his new film ‘Innu Muthal’ along with Mejjo Joseph and Lijo James under the banner of The Great Indian Cinemas.

As reported by us earlier, actor Baburaj is directing a new film titled ‘Black Coffee’. It is a spin-off of the 2011 hit film ‘Salt N Pepper’, directed by Aashiq Abu. The new film has Baburaj reprising his popular role of cook Babu from the original. While Babu was employed with Kalidas (Lal) in ‘Salt N Pepper’, this time he works for four young women who live together.

Baburaj himself has scripted the film. According to him, the story evolves after Babu, moves out of Kalidas’ home after the latter gets married to Maya. Oviya, Lena, Rachana and Orma will be seen as the roommates for whom he works.

Lal and Shweta Menon appear in brief roles, reprising the characters of Kalidas and Maya, respectively. Sunny Wayne plays the role of an aspiring filmmaker named Davis. Oviya will be seen as his romantic intrest. She essays the role of an American Malayali who lands in Kochi to make it big in the world of cinema. The cast also includes Kottayam Pradeep, Shiyaz Kareem, Spadikam George, Ponnamma Babu, Thesni Khan and Zinil Sainudeen.

Sajeesh Kumar C is producing the film under the banner of Viswadeepthi Films.

After several rounds of speculations, it has been officially announced that the Telugu remake of Malayalam blockbuster ‘Lucifer’ will be directed by Mohan Raja. The director himself made the official announcement through his Twitter handle. He has tweeted,

‘Chiru 153’ (tentative title) is Mohan Raja’s second Telugu film. He made his debut in Telugu industry in 2001 with ‘Hanuman Junction’ starring Arjun and Jagapathi Babu. Interestingly, it was also the remake of a Malayalam film — ‘Thenkasipattanam’.

Chiranjeevi’s son Ram Charan had acquired the remake rights of ‘Lucifer’ right after its release. ‘Rangasthalam’ director Sukumar was initially supposed to helm the film, but he later opted out due to unknown reasons. Later, the makers got Sujeeth of ‘Saaho’ fame on board. Reportedly, he got replaced after Chiranjeevi was unhappy with Sujeeth’s adapted script. It will now be interesting to see how Mohan Raja helms the project.
