Paava Kadhaigal release date announced

After the teaser release, it has been announced that Netflix’s maiden Tamil anthology, ‘Paava Kadhaigal’ will be releasing on December 18. It is a four-part anthology that has films helmed by directors Gautham Vasudev Menon, Vetrimaaran, Sudha Kongara and Vignesh Shivan. Ronnie Screwvala’s RSVP Movies and Ashi Dua Sara’s Flying Unicorn Entertainment are jointly producing the film.

‘Paava Kadhaigal’, which translates to sin stories, has 4 storylines that will showcase how love, pride and honour influence complex relationships. As confirmed by the directors themselves, it will be a very intense film with several hard-hitting moments in it.

Vignesh Shivan’s film titled as ‘Love Panna Uttranum’ is said to the quirkiest of the four with the director attempting a dark comedy. It stars Anjali and Bollywood actress Kalki Koechlin. Anirudh has composed music for this film.

In Vetrimaaran’s film, ‘Or Iravu’, Sai Pallavi and Prakash Raj essay the lead roles. They will be seen as a father-daughter duo. Gautham Menon’s film has been titled as ‘Vaanmagal’ and it has the director himself playing the central character along with Simran.

Sudha Kongara’s film titled as ‘Thangam’ has Kalidas Jayaram, Shanthanu Bhagyaraj and GV Prakash’s younger sister Bhavani Sre in the lead roles. Kalidas is said to be essaying the role of a transgender in the film.

Nivin Pauly and Abrid Shine team up after Action Hero Biju

Nivin Pauly and director Abrid Shine are set to join hands once again after collaborating successfully for ‘1983’ and ‘Action Hero Biju’. Since both the films were hits, expectations are bound to be high when they reunite. Nivin himself is producing the film under his banner Pauly Jr Pictures. Last day, the makers had released a casting call looking for fresh faces to act in the film.

Earlier, there were rumours about Nivin Pauly and Abrid Shine planning a sequel to ‘Action Hero Biju’. Apparently, both of them had shown great interest in taking forward the story of the forthright cop, Biju Paulose. It remains to be seen if their new project is indeed the sequel to the 2016-released hit film.

Nivin meanwhile has some other projects lined up. He is currently shooting for ‘Kanakam Kamini Kalaham’ directed by Ratheesh Balakrishnan of ‘Android Kunjappan’ fame. The actor still has a few portions left to be shot for ‘Padavettu’. His much-hyped film, ‘Thuramukham’ is awaiting theatre release. ‘Gangster of Mundanmala’ and ‘Bismi Special’ are his other projects in the pipeline.

As announced earlier, the first single from Santhosh Sivan directorial ‘Jack and Jill’ has been released online. The song titled as ‘Kim Kim’ is sung by lead actresses Manju Warrier and composed by Ram Sunder. Lyrics is penned by BK Harinarayanan. It is inspired from a yesteryear song ‘Kantha Thookunnu Thoomanam’ from the musical drama ‘Paarijaathapushpaaharanam’, which was originally sung and enacted by Vaikkom MP Mani.

‘Jack and Jill’ scripted by Santosh Sivan is said to be a multi-genre film. It’s a quirky sci-fi film in which Artificial Intelligence (AI) forms an integral part. Manju Warrier plays the role of a woman who is being experimented upon. The cast also includes Nedumudi Venu, Ramesh Pisharody, Basil Joseph, Shailee Kishan and Indrans among others.

Jakes Bejoy, Ram Surendar and Gopi Sundar have composed the songs in the film. Background score is done by Jakes Bejoy and edits are handled by Renjith Touchriver. The film is produced by Gokulam Gopalan, Santosh Sivan and M Prashanth Das under the banners of Sree Gokulam Movies and Sewas Films.

Netflix bags Master streaming rights for a whopping price!

The uncertainty regarding the release of Vijay’s ‘Master’ continues as theatres remain shut down in most parts of the country. Though the makers had repeatedly assured that the film will only be releasing in theatres, latest reports suggest that they are also thinking about a direct OTT release. As per a report in India Today, Netflix had recently bagged the film’s streaming rights for a massive price. While they are keen to release the film directly on the platform during the Pongal holidays, the makers are yet to take a call on it. A decision on whether the film will skip theatrical release and opt for a direct OTT release is expected to be taken in the next few days.

‘Master’ was originally supposed to hit screens in April this year but release plans had to be dropped due to the pandemic. Ever since then, fans have been eagerly waiting for new updates from the team. Earlier this month, the much-anticipated teaser got released to a rousing reception. It clocked millions of views in YouTube in record time.

‘Master’ directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj has Vijay and Vijay Sethupathi in the leads. While the former plays the role of a college professor in it, Sethupathi essays the part a gangster named Bhavani. It is the face-off between these two top stars that raises the expectations for ‘Master’. Malavika Mohanan is paired with Vijay in the film. Andrea Jeremiah is also there in a grey-shaded character. Shanthanu Bhagyaraj, Arjun Das, Gouri Kishan and many others are also part of the supporting cast.

‘Radhe Shyam’, directed by Radha Krishna Kumar is a period love story set in an European backdrop. Pooja Hegde plays the female lead. Prabhas is said to be playing the role of a fortune teller in the film and Pooja Hegde is rumoured to essay the part of a princess. Details regarding Jayaram’s character are not yet known. The supporting cast also includes Sachin Khedekar, Bhagyashree, Sasga Chettri, Priyadarshi Pullikonda, Murli Sharma, Riddhi Kapoor, Sasha Chettri, Sathyan, Kunaal Roy Kapoor and many others.

‘Radhe Shyam’ is being shot simultaneously in Telugu, Tamil and Hindi languages. It is jointly produced by UV Creations and T-Series.

Anikha Surendran to play the lead in Kappela Telugu remake!

We had earlier reported about ‘Kappela’ getting remade in Telugu. Sithara Entertainments, who had backed blockbuster films like ‘Ala Vaikunthapuramulo’ and ‘Jersey’, had acquired the remake rights. Latest reports suggest that Malayali actress Anikha Surendran will be playing the lead role in the Telugu version. Though Anikha has acted as a child actor in various languages, this will be her maiden film as a lead actor.

‘Kappela’ directed by actor-turned-filmmaker Muhammed Mustafa tells the story of a young woman from a rural background who gets trapped in a terrible situation. Basically, the film showcases how human perceptions can go awfully wrong. Though ‘Kappela’ didn’t have a successful theatrical run, after its release in Netflix, it got a lot of positive response, which included appreciation from the non-Malayali audience.

Anna Ben, Sreenath Bhasi and Roshan Mathew played the lead roles in the film. In the Telugu version, Naveen Chandra and Vishwak Sen will be seen as the male leads. More details regarding the Telugu version are awaited.

‘Bilal’, the sequel to ‘Big B’, has been eagerly awaited by Malayali film lovers for long. It has been over two years since Amal Neerad made the film’s announcement. The makers were all set to begin shoot early this year in March but due to the pandemic situation, they had to put things on hold. Latest buzz is that Mammootty and Amal Neerad will be working together in another film before starting ‘Bilal’. It is said that the makers are planning to shoot by January. There is still no confirmation regarding the same.

Though Malayalam film industry has started functioning in full swing with safety protocols being strictly followed at all locations, Mammootty is yet to resume shoot. Fans are now eagerly waiting to see which project the star will take up first. Mammootty has also committed for a film to be helmed by debutante Ratheena Sharshad. It is scripted by ‘Unda’ fame Harshad and Suhas-Sharfu, the writers of ‘Varathan’.

Nadhirshah’s next film will have Jayasurya in the lead. Titled as ‘Gandhi Square’, the film’s official launch was held today at Kochi. As per reports, the film is a thriller. Nadhirshah as a director is known for helming fun-filled entertainers. All his three films, ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’, ‘Kattapanayile Rithwik Roshan’ and ‘Mera Naam Shaji’, were high on the humour quotient. It will be interesting to see how he helms a thriller next.

This new film will have Namitha Pramod as the female lead. Salim Kumar will be also seen playing an important role. Suneesh Varanad, who had earlier scripted the Manju Warrier-starrer ‘Mohanlal’, is penning this film as well. On the technical front, Nadhirshah has retained the same core team from his directorial debut, ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’. Sujith Vaassudev will be handing the cinematography and Badhusha is the project designer. Actor-turned-producer Arun Narayan is bankrolling the film under his banner Arun Narayan Productions.

Major: Seak-peek of Adivi Sesh’s first-look as Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan out

It has been 12 years since the deadly 26/11 attacks in Mumbai that rocked the entire country. National Security Guard Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan was a valiant soldier who saved the lives of numerous hostages before being martyred by terrorists who wreaked havoc in the Taj Mahal Palace. Telugu star Advi Sesh is starring in Sandeep’s biopic, which is titled as ‘Major’. Sashi Kiran Tikka is directing the film that is shaping up as a bilingual in Telugu and Hindi.

The makers have revealed a sneak-peak video in which Advi Sesh is seen talking about his early memories on Sandeep Unnikrishnan and the journey to bring his life on screen. Advi Sesh himself has the film’s story and screenplay. As per the makers, the film speaks about the way Sandeep lived, not about the way he lost his life.

‘Major’ stars Sobhita Dhulipala, Prakash Raj, Revathi, Murali Sharma and many others. The film has its cinematography by Vamsi Patchipulusu and music composed by Sri Charan Pakala. Vinay Kumar Sirigineedi and Pavan Kalyan Kodati is handling the edits. It is produced by Sony Pictures Films India in association with Mahesh Babu’s GMB Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. and A+S Movies.
