Oru Manam: Vikram looks dapper in this first single from Dhruva Natchathiram

Gautham Vasudev Menon’s ambitious spy thriller ‘Dhruva Natchathiram’ (DN) with Vikram has been in the making for a long time now. Even while the director has moved on to other projects, ‘DN’ is still eagerly awaited by many. Last day, the makers released the first single and it has got excellent response online. The track titled ‘Oru Manam’ is composed by Harris Jayaraj. Karthik and Shashaa Tirupati have lent their voices and lyrics is penned by Thamarai.

Though it is basically a romantic song, Antony has edited it brilliantly by including several footages, including gunshots, fist fights and chasing, that gives an overall picture about the film. Vikram looks absolutely dapper in the film. His salt and pepper getup and the overall styling suits him so well, that this has to be his most stylish appearance till date in any film.

‘Dhruva Natchathiram’ revolves around 10 agents who work in disguise to protect and safeguard the nation. They are responsible for national security and to protect it from foreign forces. Vikram heads the 10 member team which includes actors like Parthiban, Simran, Divyadarshini aka DD, Radhika Sarath Kumar, Munna and Vamsi Krishna. Ritu Varma and Aishwarya Rajesh play the two female leads.

Prabhas 21: Amitabh Bachchan joins Prabhas and Deepika Padukone!

As reported earlier by us, ‘Mahanati’ fame Nag Ashwin is helming a mega-budget project that will have Prabhas and Deepika Padukone as the leads. The cast just got bigger with Amitabh Bachchan joining the team. The formal announcement has just been made by the makers through their official Twitter handle.

Tentatively titled as ‘Prabhas 21’, it is a massive project backed by Vyjayanthi Films. The legendary production house is celebrating their 50th anniversary and this project is deemed to be a very prestigious one for them. Expectations will be sky-high as three superstars — Prabhas, Deepika and Bachchan — who enjoy massive fan base are coming together for the first time.

If reports are to be believed, the film is a futuristic sci-fi thriller set against the backdrop of an imaginary third world war. It is being planned as a pan-Indian film with a mammoth budget of over Rs 400 crore. The makers are eyeing to start shooting in April next year and to release it in 2022. Apart from Telugu, the film will also be simultaneously made in Tami and Hindi languages.

Karthi-Rashmika starrer Sultan wrapped up!

Shoot for Karthi’s new film ‘Sultan’ just got wrapped up. The film is directed by Bakkiyaraj Kannan of ‘Remo’ fame. Rashmika Mandanna, one of South Indian cinema’s hot favourites, is making her Tamil debut with this film. It is being produced by SR Prabhu of Dream Warrior Pictures.

According to the makers, ‘Sultan’ is an action cum family drama with a good dose of romance in it. Yogi Babu and Mansoor Ali Khan will also be seen playing crucial roles. Vivek-Merwin is composing the music and Ruben is the editor. More details are likely to be announced officially soon.

Karthi has a couple of other exciting projects coming up. He is expected to start shooting for PS Mithran’s film next. The actor is said to be playing a double role in it. He also has the Mani Ratnam biggie ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ in the pipeline. A sequel to the blockbuster action film ‘Kaithi’ is also in the offing.

Khalid Rahman’s Love to be the first Indian film to release in theatres post the lockdown

Malayalam producer Ashiq Usman is making history by releasing his upcoming film ‘Love’ in theatres. The film directed by Khalid Rahman and starring Shine Tom Chacko and Rajisha Vijayan in the leads is set to be the first Indian film to release in theatres post the lockdown. It will be released in the Gulf region on the 15th of October. Needless to say, it is a brave move as audience will be hesitant to visit theatres due to the pandemic threat.

Ashiq Usman informed the release plans through a Facebook post which reads,

Hi everyone, hope you’ll are doing well & safe?

My upcoming film “LOVE”is the first Indian film to release in Cinemas post the lockdown.
It’s set to release in the Gulf on 15th October with all necessary precautions for a safe experience.

During the lockdown days, Khalid Rahman shot the film with a small team. Shine Tom and Rajisha Vijayan will be seen playing a couple in the film. Rajisha plays a character named Deepthi while Shine’s role is named as Anoop. The entire film is set in an apartment complex. Sudhi Koppa, ‘Kettyolaan Ente Malakha’ fame Veena Nandakumar, Sudhi Koppa, Gokulan and Johny Antony are also part of the supporting cast.

Khalid Rahman and editor Noufal Abdullah have co-written the film. The director’s brother Jimshi Khalid has hanlded the cinematography and music is done by Neha Nair and Yakzan Gary Pereira. The team shot the film in just around 20 days by following all the government protocols.

Official: Vijay Sethupathi to star in Muttiah Muralidharan biopic

We had earlier reported about legendary Sri Lankan cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan getting a biopic made in Tamil. Its official announcement has just been made by the makers. Vijay Sethupathi has been signed to play Muralitharan’s role in the film and it will be directed by MS Sripathi. Movie Train Motion Pictures is producing the film jointly with DAR Motion Pictures.

Muttiah Muralitharan is one of the greatest bowlers to have played the game of cricket. A Tamilian by birth, Murali was born and brought up in Sri Lanka. He made his cricketing debut in 1992 and played for Sri Lanka till 2011. Even after 9 years of his retirement, he still holds the world record for the most number of wickets in both test (800) and one-day international cricket (534).

Muralitharan is married to Chennai-based Madhimalar, daughter of the later doctor Ramamurthy who founded the famous Malar Hospitals. Unconfirmed reports suggest that Malayali actress Rajisha Vijayan has been approached to essay Madhimalar’s role in the biopic. Vijay Sethupathi meanwhile is expected to undergo a physical transformation of sorts to look like Murali.

Pre-production works for the film has already begun. Sam CS of ‘Vikram Vedha’ fame has been brought on board as the music director. Rest of the cast and crew are yet to be confirmed. The biopic has been planned to be made in Tamil and released in several other languages.

‘Putham Pudhu Kaalai’, Amazon’s upcoming anthology that has films directed by Sudha Kongara, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Rajiv Menon, Karthik Subbaraj and Suhasini Mani Ratnam is gearing up for release. After the excellent response to the trailer, the makers have now released the music video of the title track. The song is about the beautiful challenges that life gives us. GV Prakash has composed and the sung the track. Lyrics is sung by Kaber Vasuki and the music video is shot by Rajiv Menon.

‘Putham Pudhu Kaalai’ has five films and all the stories are set during the 21-day lockdown period. The segment directed by GVM is titled ‘Avarum Naanum/Avalum Naanum’ and it has MS Bhaskar and Ritu Varma star in the leads.

Suhasini Mani Ratnam’s film titled as ‘Coffee, Anyone?’ has her playing one of the leads alongside Anu Haasan and Shruti Haasan. Sudha Kongara’s film titled ‘Ilamai Idho Idho’ stars Kalidas Jayaram, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Urvashi and Jayaram.

Rajiv Menon’s segment titled ‘Reunion’ stars Andrea Jeremiah, ‘OK Kanmani’ fame Leela Samson and Sikkhil Gurucharan. Karthik Subbaraj’s film is titled as ‘Miracle’ and it has Bobby Simha and ‘Petta’ fame Muthu Kumar in the lead roles.

‘Putham Pudhu Kaalai’ is scheduled to premiere on Amazon Prime Video on October 16.

Rocking star Yash resumes shooting for KGF 2

After a long forced break due to the pandemic, the makers of ‘KGF 2’ had recently resumed shoot. Lead actor Yash has joined the sets today. The makers have completed almost 90% of shoot. Karthik Gowda, Creative Executive Producer the film confirmed on Twitter that they are planning to wrap up the film by the end of this month. His tweet reads,

@TheNameIsYash joins the final leg of #KGFChapter2 shoot from tomorrow. We will wrap up the film by the end of this month and proceed towards the release. @hombalefilms @VKiragandur @prashanth_neel @SrinidhiShetty7 @bhuvangowda84″

Thanks to the massive success of the first part, ‘KGF 2’ is eagerly awaited by cinephiles across the country. Prashanth Neel is directing the film that has veteran Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt playing the antagonist character. Ranveena Tandon is reportedly essaying the Indian Prime Minister’s role in the sequel. The character is said to be inspired from late Indira Gandhi.

Srinidhi Shetty, Anant Nag, Rao Ramesh, Achyuth Kumar, Vasishta N Simha and Malavika Avinash are also part of the film’s supporting cast. Just like the first part, ‘KGF 2’ is also set to be release in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi.

SG 250 project still on; Title to be announced soon!

Last day, on the fourth anniversary of the mega blockbuster ‘Pulimurugan’, the film’s producer Tomichan Mulakuppadam revealed that their banner’s next with Suresh Gopi will be announced soon. Tentatively titled as ‘SG 250’, the film is likely to be directed by debutant Mathew Thomas.

The film was first in the news when the makers of Prithviraj starrer ‘Kaduva’ filed a court against ‘SG 250’ alleging that there were similarities between both the films. The lead characters in both the films were named as Kaduvakunnel kuruvachan. The Kerala high court then orderd a stay on the shoot and promotional activities of Suresh Gopi’s film.

Earlier this week, Prithviraj had announced that ‘Kaduva’ will soon start rolling and that he will be playing Kaduvakunnel kuruvachan’s role. It is now presumed that the makers of ‘SG 250’ have reworked on the script after the case was filed. It remains to be seen how the film shapes up now.

Currently, all eyes are on the big announcement. Stay tuned to this space.

The trailer of ‘Halal Love Story’ has just been released online. The film directed by Zakariya has Indrajith Sukumaran, Joju George, Grace Antony, Soubin Shahir and Sharafudheen in the lead roles. Set in the Malabar region, the story seems to be about a bunch of passionate people’s attempts to make a tele film. Indrajith and Grace Antony play a couple in the film. Sharafudheen essays the role of the scenarist and Joju plays the part of the director. Parvathy is also part of the cast in a cameo role.

‘Halal Love Story’ is the Zakariya’s second film after the National award winning directorial debut, ‘Sudani From Nigeria’. He has also co-scripted the film along with Muhsin Parari. As per the makers, it is a humourous journey of love with some subtle political commentary in it.

Bijibal, Shahabaz Aman and Rex Vijayan are jointly handling the music department. Ajay Menon is the DOP and edits are handled by Saiju Sreedharan. Director Aashiq Abu is producing the film along with Jesna Ashim and Harshad Ali.

‘Halal Love Story’ is scheduled to premier on Amazon Prime on October 15.

Govind Vasantha scores music for Gautham Menon’s next

Gautham Menon films are known to have great music. The director has collaborated with top composers like AR Rahman, Ilaiyaraja, Harris Jayarj and the results have always been fruitful. Last year, he also gave a big break for youngster Darbuka with ‘Enai Nokki Paayum Thotta’. Menon is now teaming up with Govind Vasantha of ’96’ fame for his new film.

Govind is scoring music for the segment directed by GVM in the upcoming anthology film ‘Putham Pudhu Kaalai’. MS Bhaskar and Ritu Varma star in the film, which has an interesting title — ‘Avarum Naanum/Avalum Naanum’. From the trailer, we presume that the story is about a young girl coming to live with her grand father during the pandemic-induced lockdown days. It will ne interesting to see how GVM and Govind have treated the film musically.

‘Putham Pudhu Kaalai’ is an anthology of 5 short films directed by Sudha Kongara, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Rajiv Menon, Karthik Subbaraj and Suhasini Mani Ratnam. All the stories are during the 21-day lockdown period.
