Thuramukham makers release new poster on Nivin Pauly’s birthday

To make Nivin Pauly’s birthday special, the makers of his upcoming film ‘Padavettu’ had released a special video earlier in the day. Following that, a new poster featuring him has been shared by team ‘Thuramukham’ in social medias. Directed by Rajeev Ravi, it is a highly expected film among the Malayali cinephiles.

‘Thuramukham’ is an ambitious film with a promising cast and crew. The film has Nivin Pauly playing the role of a Mattanchery based port-labourer named Moidu. It is said to be a very challenging character and we can expect to see another strong performance from the star after ‘Moothon’. Along with Nivin, the cast also includes actors like Joju George, Indrajith Sukumaran, Nimisha Sajayan, Darshana Rajendran, Arjun Ashokan, Poornima Indrajith, Sudev Nair and Manikandan R Achari.

‘Thuramukham’ is based on the historic protests against the inhuman ‘chappa’ system, that existed during the 1950s wherein copper coins were thrown at waiting workers in a primitive work guarantee scheme, which had resulted in police firing and killing of three workers in Mattancherry. The story is centered around the Cochin harbour and the lives of coastal people in 50s.

Gopan Chidambaram, one of the scenarists of ‘Iyobinte Pusthakam’, has scripted this film. It is produced by Sukumar Thekkeppat of Mini Studio.

‘Ajagajantharam’ is said to be an action packed entertainer. The film also has Arjun Ashokan in a major role. Recently on his birthday, the makers had revealed his character look from the film. He is said to be playing a grey-shaded character in it.

Chemban Vinod Jose, Sabumon Abdusamad, Jaffer Idukki, Sudhi Koppa and many others are part of the supporting cast. The makers had finished shoot before the Covid-19 outbreak and are currently busy with the post-production works.

As Nivin Pauly celebrates his birthday today, the makers of his upcoming film ‘Padavettu’ have released a special video. It has snippets of the film’s making process. Nivin has shared the video in his social media handle and thanked the team for it.

‘Padavettu’ is written and directed by debutant Liju Krishna. Nothing much is known regarding the film’s genre or storyline except that it is set in a rural backdrop. Nivin Pauly is said to be playing a very challenging character in the film. He will be appearing in two different looks. The actor had piled put extra weight for the first schedule of shoot. He will be seen sporting a lean look next.

‘Padavettu’ has ‘Aruvi’ fame Aditi Balan as the female lead. Manju Warrrier is also there in an important role. On the technical side, Deepak D Menon wields the camera and edits are being done by Shafique Mohamed Ali. Govind Vasantha is handling the music department. Actor Sunny Wayne is maiden his feature film production debut with the film and New Surya Films is presenting it.

Vijay Sethupathi in Santosh Sivan’s next?

Recently, we had reported that Santosh Sivan will be remaking the hit Tamil film ‘Maanagaram’ in Hindi. Vikrant Massey has been signed to play one of the lead roles. Malayali producer Shibu Thameens of Thameens Films is backing the film. Latest buzz is that Vijay Sethupathi has been approached to play an important role in the film. However, the makers are yet to confirm it.

‘Maanagaram’ starring Sundeep Kishan, Regina Cassanadra and Sri in the lead roles is a hyperlink thriller that got released in 2017. The film was as a sleeper hit at the Tamil Nadu box office. It marked the directorial debut of Lokesh Kanagaraj, who later went on to make ‘Kaithi’ and the Vijay starrer ‘Master’.

The Hindi version of ‘Maanagaram’, would be adapted to suit the North Indian audience. While the original had Chennai city as a character in itself, the Hindi version will be set entirely in Mumbai. Vikrant Massey will be reprising the angry young man’s role played by Sundeep Kishan in Tamil. Veteran Sanjay Mishra is also there in a key role. Vijay Sethupathi is likely to be approached for the grey-shaded character essayed by Madhusudhan Rao.

As reported earlier, Dhanush is reuniting with ‘Raanjhanaa’ director Aanand L Rai for a new Hindi film titled ‘Atrangi Re’. It is a multi-starrer that also features Akshay Kumar and Sara Ali Khan in the lead roles. The film’s shoot had been affected for the past few months due to the pandemic. Now the makers have managed to resume works. Dhanush is currently shooting a few portions in Karaikudi in Tamil Nadu. This brief schedule involves song sequence also featuring Dimple Hayathi. Following this, the team will continue shooting in Delhi and Mumbai where Akshay Kumar will be joining for a month.

Asif Ali’s next with Sibi Malayil starts rolling

Asif Ali’s new film with veteran director Sibi Malayil got launched today. The film is produced by director Ranjith and PM Sasidharan under the banner of Gold Coin Motion Pictures. Debutant Hemanth is scripting the film. Reports suggest that it will be predominately shot in and around Kozhikode. Shoot will be conducted following all the Covid-19 safety protocols.

Sibi Malayil is making a comeback after a five year long gap with this film. It also marks the director’s collaboration with Ranjith after two long decades. Ranjith and Sibi Malayil have previously collaborated in ‘Maya Mayuram’, ‘Summer in Bethlahem’ and ‘Ustaad’. Ranjith had scripted these films. Likewise, Sibi Malayil and Asif Ali have also worked together in ‘Apoorvaragam’, ‘Violin’ and ‘Unnam’.

The new film, which is yet to be titled, has Prashanth Raveendran as the DOP and Kailas Menon as the music director. More details are awaited.

The Priest second schedule wrapped up!

Mammootty starrer ‘The Priest’ was on the floors when the nationwide lockdown was announced. After a gap of over six months, the makers had recently resumed shoot. It was a brief schedule, which they have wrapped up now. Director Jofin T Chacko informed the same through his official social media handle. Due to the pandemic threat, the team followed all the safety measures recommended by the government.

‘The Priest’ is said to be a mystery thriller. The film brings together Manju Warrier and Mammootty for the first time ever. While Mammootty has already finished shooting for his portions, Manju Warrier still has a few scenes to be completed. The cast also includes Nikhila Vimal, Saniya Iyappan, Jagadheesh, Ramesh Pisharody, Ameya Mathew, Baby Monica of ‘Kaithi’ fame, ‘Nayika Nayakan’ fame Venkitesh and Tony Luke in supporting roles.

‘The Priest’ has Akhil George as the cinematographer and Rahul Raj as the music director. Shameer Muhammed is handling the edits. The film is jointly produced by Anto Joseph, B Unnikrishnan and VN Babu.

Akshay Kumar starrer Laxmmi Bomb trailer out

Akshay Kumar’s highly anticipated horror flick ‘Laxmmi Bomb’ is gearing up for direct OTT release. The film’s streaming rights have been acquired by Disney Plus Hotstar. As the film is set to premiere on November 9 during the Diwali season, the makers have shared the trailer online.

‘Laxmmi Bomb’ is the official remake of Tamil blockbuster ‘Kanchana’ aka ‘Muni 2’. From the trailer, it is evident that Akshay Kumar is playing a dual role. He is reprising the characters played by Raghava Lawrence and Sarath Kumar in the original Tamil version.

Kiara Advani and Tussshar Kapoor play other major roles in ‘Laxmmi Bomb’. Malayalam actor Babu Antony will be seen reprising his role from the Tamil version. Raghava Lawrence, who directed and starred in the original, is helming the Hindi remake as well.

Thanks to the massive pre-release hype, the makers have managed to bag a hefty deal with Hostar. If reports are to be believed, they have earned over Rs 125 crores as streaming rights alone.

Check out the romantic trailer of Thalli Pogathey

The trailer of upcoming Tamil film ‘Thalli Pogathey’ has just been released online. Atharvaa, Anupama Parameswaran, and Amitash Pradha of ‘Velai Illa Pattadhari’ fame play the lead roles in the film. From the trailer, it looks like a triangular love story with all commercial ingredients like action, songs and comedy. The film is produced and directed by R Kannan.

‘Thalli Pogathey’ is just the second Tamil film of Anupama Parameswaran after the 2016-released ‘Kodi’. The actress shot to fame with ‘Premam’ and did a handful of Telugu films. In ‘Thalli Pogathey’, she seems to be playing a performance oriented character.

The film has music composed by Gopi Sundar. N Shanmuga Sundaram cranks the camera and Selva RK handles the edits. Kabilan Vairamuthu has penned the lyrics and dialogues. Art director Rajkumar, stunt choreographer Silva, costume designer Kavitha J and dance choreographer Sathish are also part of the technical team.

The makers are yet to announce the release plans.

Maara: Charlie Tamil remake set for release in Amazon Prime

Dulquer Salmaan’s blockbuster Malayalam film ‘Charlie’ is getting remade in Tamil as ‘Maara’. Madhavan is playing the lead role in the film with Shraddha Srinath and Sshivada as the heroines. Dhilip Kumar, who earlier directed an experimental short film named ‘Kalki’, is making his feature film debut with this one. The film set for a direct OTT release. It is scheduled to premiere in Amazon Prime Video on December 17.

‘Charlie’ directed by Martin Prakkat was a huge hit, both critically and commercially. The film went on to win 8 awards at the Kerala State level including the ones for Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Screenplay. Martin had co-written the film with Unni R.

The Tamil version of ‘Charlie’ is tweaked the subject to suit the sensibilities of the Tamil audience. Shraddha Srinath is reprising Parvathy’s character from the original while Sshivada reprises the role played by Aparna Gopinath. Alexander Babu and veteran Moulee will be seen in other major roles. The film has music scored by Ghibran.
