Shoot for the much hyped ‘Drishyam 2’ continues to progress amidst the pandemic situation. The film directed by Jeethu Joseph is the sequel to the blockbuster ‘Drishyam’, which was a thriller revolving around the protagonist Georgekutty and his family. The sequel continues from where the first part ended with the focus yet again on the family.

Along with Mohanlal, actors Meena, Ansiba Hassan and Esther Anil are also reprising their roles from ‘Drishyam’. A new photo of Georgekutty and family from the sets of ‘Drishyam 2’ has just been shared online by Mohanlal.

Siddique and Asha Sharath, are also reprising their roles. Murali Gopy, Ganesh Kumar, Sai Kumar, Adam Ayub and Anjali Nair are the some of the new additions to the cast. Cinematographer Satheesh Kurup, music director Anil Johnson, editor Vinayakan, art director Rajeev Kovilakam and costume designer Linda Jeethu form the core technical crew.

Due to the Covid-19 situation, the film’s shoot is being conducted following all the safety protocols. Currently, the team is proceeding with the indoor shoot. Second schedule has been planned in Thodupuzha.

Soorarai Pottru trailer to be released next week

Suriya’s highly anticipated film ‘Soorarai Pottru’ is gearing up for its world premier on Amazon Prime Video later this month. Prior to the film’s release, the makers have decided to share a trailer. It is learnt that the trailer will be out next week. Fans are eagerly waiting to catch glimpses of what’s in store.

‘Soorarai Pottru’ directed by Sudha Kongara is an ambitious big-scale film that is loosely based on the life of GR Gopinath, the founder of Air Deccan. In the film, Suriya essays a character named Nedumaaran Rajangam Maara, a common man hailing from Madurai who dreams of owning an aircraft business. Malayali actress Aparna Balamurali’s plays his wife’s character.

Actors like Paresh Rawal, Jackie Shroff, Urvashi, Karunas and Mohan Babu will be seen in other major roles. GV Prakash is composing the music and cinematography is done by Niketh Bommireddy. The film is set to have its world premier on October 30.

Along with the original Tamil version, ‘Soorarai Pottru’ is also being dubbed and released in Telugu as ‘Aakaasam Nee Haddhu Ra’. Both the versions are expected to be released simultaneously Telugu actor Satyadev Kancharana has dubbed for Suriya in the Telugu version.

Prithviraj confirms playing Kaduvakunnel Kuruvachan in Shaji Kailas’ Kaduva

Prithviraj Sukumaran has confirmed that he will be playing the character Kaduvakunnel Kuruvachan in the upcoming Shaji Kailas directorial ‘Kaduva’. Just a while back, he shared a new poster in his social media handle along with informing that the film’s shoot will be beginning soon.

For the last few months, a legal battle has been going on between the makers of ‘Kaduva’ and Suresh Gopi’s 250th film (SG 250), which is to be directed by debutant Mathew Thomas. Jinu Abraham, the scenarist of ‘Kaduva’ had approached the court alleging that there were similarities between both the films. The Kerala high court then orderd a stay on the shoot and promotional activities of the Suresh Gopi starrer.

Apparently, both the films are based on the same real-life person, Kurivanakunnel Kuruvachan, who still resides in Pala. Years back, Renji Panciker was supposed to do a film titled ‘Vyakharam’ based on Kuruvachan’s character with superstar Mohanlal as the lead and Shaji Kailas directing it. However, the project could not materialize then due to various reasons.

When news about the legal battle between team ‘Kaduva’ and ‘SG 250’ came out, Kurivanakunnel Kuruvachan expressed his strong displeasure against both the films which, according to him, are being made without his consent. As per Kuruvachan, he had discussed the idea about a film only with Renji Panicker and if the other two parties decide to go ahead, he will be dealing with it legally. It now seems like the makers of ‘Kaduva’ have managed to convince him.

‘Kaduva’ marks Shaji Kalias’ comeback to direction after a long gap. Prithviraj Productions and Magic Frames are jointly producing it.

Fahadh Faasil, Joju George, Dileesh Pothan film Thankam shelved; Joji to begin next

Earlier this year, it was announced that Fahadh Faasil, Dileesh Pothan and Joju George would be playing the lead roles in a film titled ‘Thankam’. ‘Theeram’ fame Saheed Arafath was supposed to direct the film with Syam Pushkaran as the scenarist. Shoot was planned to begin by mid-2020 but that’s when the pandemic situation worsened.

Since ‘Thankam’ is set mostly outside Kerala, and it would be difficult to shoot the film during the current restrictions, the makers have now decided to shelve it and proceed with another project. The trio of Fahadh, Dileesh Pothan and Syam Pushkaran are teaming up for a new film titled ‘Joji’.

Dileesh Pothan will be directing the film and Fahadh Faasil will be seen playing the titular role in it. Scripted by Syam Pushkaran, the film is inspired from Willaim Shakespeare’s famous play, ‘Macbeth’. As per the makers, it is an independent adaptation that is set in the modern era. Shoot will begin in November with Erumeli and Mundakkayam as the major locations.

‘Joji’ has Shyju Khalid as the cinematographer and music by Justin Varghese of ‘Njandukalude Naatil Oridavela’ and ‘Thaneer Mathan Dhinangal’ fame. Editor Kiran Das, costume designer Mashar Hamsa, production designer Gokul Das and make up artist Ronex Xavier form the core technical crew.

Dileesh Pothan-Syam Pushkaran combo’s production company Working Class Hero is backing the film along with Fahadh’s banner, Fahadh Faasil And Friends.

Kailas Menon starts composing for Sibi Malayil’s next with Asif Ali

Recently, it was announced that Asif Ali would be starring in veteran Sibi Malayil’s comeback film. Director Ranjith is producing the film and it is scripted by Hemanth. Shoot for the film is scheduled to begin this month and the makers have already started the pre-production works.

Kailas Menon of ‘Theevandi’ fame is composing music for the film. Last day, he took to his social media handle to announced the big news. Along with sharing a photo taken with Sibi Malayil during the composing session, Kailas Menon wrote,

Working on the next with the legendary filmmaker Sibi Malayil sir. The yet to be named movie is being produced by Dir. Ranjith sir & Sasidharan sir, scripted by Hemanth & starring Asif Ali.

Lyricist Manu Manjith also expressed his delight in working with Sibi Malayil. His Facebook post reads,

Some writing sessions are learning sessions itself… Blessed to be associated with one of the legendary movie makers in malayalam #sibi_malayil sir for a movie which is being produced by another iconic figure #ranjith sir…!!!!

Reports suggest that the film will be predominately shot in and around Kozhikode. Shoot will be conducted follwlong all the Covid-19 safety protocols.

Shoot for Suresh Gopi’s Kaaval to resume this month

Suresh Gopi’s upcoming film ‘Kaaval’ is a highly anticipated one as it marks his comeback to mass genre after a very long gap. The film directed by ‘Kasaba’ fame Nithin Renji Panicker was on the verge of completion when the pandemic brought things to a standstill. After over 5 months of waiting, the makers have now decided to resume shoot. As per reports, the team will resume works from October 7. 2 more weeks of shoot has been planned with Vandiperiyar and Palakkad as the major locations.

‘Kaaval'” scripted by director Nithin himself, has Suresh Gopi playing a character named Thamban. Along with him, Renji Panicker is also playing a full-length character. The film is basically an action-packed family drama. The story set in the high ranges of Idukki and spans across different timelines. The film has an elaborate cast comprising of Zaya David, Alencier Ley Lopez, IM Vijayan, Sujith Shankar, Kichu Tellus, Binu Pappu, Santhosh Keezhattoor, Muthumani and Pathamaraj Ratheesh.

National award winner Nikhil S Praveen is the cinematographer, Mansoor Muthutty is the editor and Ranjin Raj of ‘Joseph’ fame handles the music department. Joby George of Goodwill Entertainments is producing the film.

‘Muddy’ is an upcoming film directed by Dr Pragabhal under the banner of PK 7 Creations. It is said to be the first Indian movie based on off-road mud racing (4*4). The film is getting ready as a multilingual release. As per the makers, it is a thrilling-adventurous film that will offer the viewers an innovative cinematic experience.

‘Muddy’ stars newcomers Premdas Krishna and Yuvan in the lead roles. Director Pragabhal worked on over five years of preparation for the film. The lead actors had spent around two years to get real time experience in mud racing. The film has several breathtaking stunts done by the artists themselves without the help of any dupes. Teaser is expected to be released soon.

‘Muddy’ is scripted by director Pragabhal along with Mahesh Chandran and Sreenath Nair. The cast includes noted actors such as Renji Panicker, Hareesh Peradi, IM Vijayan, Guinness Manoj, Bineesh Bastin, Sunil Sugatha and Sobha Mohan. On the technical front, the film has music scored by ‘KGF’ composer Ravi Basur and edits done by San Lokesh of ‘Ratsasan’ fame. KG Ratheesh is the cinematographer.

After a gap of over 6 months due to the pandemic, the makers of Mammootty starrer ‘The Priest’ have resumed shoot. The film directed by debutant Jofin T Chacko is said to be a mystery thriller. Shoot was in the final stages when the nationwide lockdown was announced.

‘The Priest’ brings together Manju Warrier and Mammootty for the first time ever. While Mammootty has already finished shooting for his portions, Manju Warrier still has a few scenes to be completed. The cast also includes Nikhila Vimal, Saniya Iyappan, Baby Monica of ‘Kaithi’ fame, Jagadheesh, Ramesh Pisharody, ‘Karikku’ fame Ameya Mathew, ‘Nayika Nayakan’ fame Venkitesh and Tony Luke in important roles.

Gokul Suresh-Dhyan Sreenivasan starrer Sayanna Varthakal trailer out

The long delayed film ‘Sayanna Varthakal’ is finally getting ready for release. The makers released the trailer online last day. The film directed by debutant Arun Chandu has Gokul Suresh and Dhyan Sreenivasan in the lead roles. It is being produced by Mahfoose MD, Fairose, Bisharatg, Yasar and Noushad under the banner of D14 Entertainments.

Director Arun Chandu, Rahul Menon and Sachin R Chandran have jointly scripted ‘Sayanna Varthakal’. The film is touted to be a quirky fun entertainer. Debutante Sharanya Sharma plays the female lead. North Indian actor Makarand Deshpande, Aju Varghese, Anand Manmadhan and Vinay Govindhan of ‘Oru Mexican Aparatha’ fame are also part of the movie’s supporting cast.

On the technical front, Sarath Shaji is cranking the camera and Arvind Manmadhan handles the edits. Prashanth Pillai and Shankar Sharma has composed the songs and the latter has handled the background score.

The makers are yet to announce their relese plans.

Trailer of Manju Warrier starrer Kayattam looks intriguing

The trailer of Manju Warrier’s new film A’hr aka ‘Kayattam’ dropped in last day. AR Rahman released the trailer through his social media handle. Directed by Sanal Kumar Sasidharan, it is an adventure film shot in Himachal Pradesh. From the trailer it looks like Manju Warrier is playing a mysterious character named Maya, who is on a trek with few others.

According to the makers, Maya in Sanskrit means magic or illusion upon which the universe is woven. The protagonist, Maya in the film also refers to the wider mystery of the universe and its masterful manipulation with the human minds. The mystic story unravels in a thrilling Himalayan climb by a group of strangers.

‘Kayattam’ was recently selected for the World Premier screening at the 25th edition of Busan International Film Festival. It is a competitor for the Kim Jiseok award in festival scheduled to be held later this month. Besides directing the film, Sanal Kumar has also penned the script and handled the editing and sound design. Chandru Selvaraj is the DOP and music is by Ratheesh Eeetillam. Gourav Raveendran, Vedh, Sujith Koyikkal and Bhupendra Khurana will be seen in major roles in the film.
