Fahadh Faasil, Syam Pushkaran and Dileesh Pothan reunite for new film, Joji

The trio of Syam Pushkaran, Dileesh Pothan and Fahadh Faasil are teaming up yet again. The official announcement regarding their new film ‘Joji’ was made just a while back. Dileesh Pothan will be directing the film and Fahadh Faasil will be seen playing the lead role. Interestingly, Syam Pushkaran has adapted the script from Willaim Shakespeare’s famous play, ‘Macbeth’.

Dileesh Pothan-Syam Pushkaran combo’s production company Working Class Hero is backing the film along with Fahadh’s banner, Fahadh Faasil And Friends. Last year, they had produced the superhit film ‘Kumbalangi Nights’.

‘Joji’ will have cinematography by Shyju Khalid and music by Justin Varghese of ‘Njandukalude Naatil Oridavela’ and ‘Thaneer Mathan Dhinangal’ fame. Editor Kiran Das, costume designer Mashar Hamsa, production designer Gokul Das, production controller Benny Kattapana and make up artist Ronex Xavier are also part of the technical crew. The makers are eyeing to start shooting by the end of this year.

Fahadh Faasil, Dileesh Pothan and Syam Pushkaran were supposed to work together in another film titled ‘Thankam’. It was to be directed by ‘Theeram’ fame Saheed Arafath with Syam Pushkaran as the scenarist. Fahadh, Joju George and Dileesh Pothan were announced as the lead actors. Shoot for the film was scheduled to begin by mid-2020 but it got delayed due to the pandemic. Since the film is set mostly outside Kerala, the makers have decided to shelve it for now.

Aakaasam Nee Haddhu Ra: Satyadev to dub for Suriya in Soorarai Pottru Telugu version

Suriya’s highly anticipated film ‘Soorarai Pottru’ is scheduled to release on Amazon Prime Video later this month. Along with the original Tamil version, the film is also being dubbed and released in Telugu as ‘Aakaasam Nee Haddhu Ra’. Both the versions are expected to be released simultaneously.

Interestingly, Telugu actor Satyadev Kancharana has dubbed for Suriya in the Telugu version. The former is noted for his performance in films like ‘Jyothi Lakshmi’, ‘Kshanam’, ‘Mana Oori Ramayanam’, ‘Bluff Master’ and ‘Brochevarevarura’. His last release was ‘Uma Maheswara Ugra Roopasya’, the official remake of National-award winning Malayalam film ‘Maheshinte Prathikaram’.

‘Soorarai Pottru’ directed by Sudha Kongara is loosely based on the life of GR Gopinath, the founder of Air Deccan. In the film, Suriya essays a character named Nedumaaran Rajangam Maara, a common man hailing from Madurai who dreams of owning an aircraft business. Malayali actress Aparna Balamurali’s plays his wife’s character.

The cast also includes Paresh Rawal, Jackie Shroff, Urvashi, Karunas and Mohan Babu in major roles. GV Prakash is composing the music and cinematography is done by Niketh Bommireddy. The film is set to have its world premier on October 30.

Muddy: First Indian movie to be based on off-road mud racing gearing up for release

‘Muddy’ is an upcoming film directed by Dr Pragabhal under the banner of PK 7 Creations. It is said to be the first Indian movie based on off-road mud racing (4*4). The film is getting ready as a multilingual release. As per the makers, it is a thrilling-adventurous film that has several breathtaking stunts done by the artists themselves without the help of any dupes. A teaser was released recently which had glimpses of some amazing stunts.

‘Muddy’ stars newcomers Premdas Krishna and Yuvan in the lead roles. The film is scripted by director Pragabhal along with Mahesh Chandran and Sreenath Nair. Anusha Suresh, Renji Panicker, Bineesh Bastin, I M Vijayan, Hareesh Peradi, Shobha Mohan, Manoj Guinness and Sunil Sugutha are some of the others in the supporting cast.

On the technical front, ‘Muddy’ has music scored by ‘KGF’ composer Ravi Basur and edits done by San Lokesh of ‘Ratsasan’ fame. KG Ratheesh is the cinematographer.

Shoot for Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Bell Bottom’ has successfully been wrapped up. The makers claim it to be the first mainstream film in the world to start and finish during the pandemic. Akshay Kumar informed the completion of shoot by sharing a new poster. Along with that he also tweeted,

Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much. Its teamwork and I am grateful to each and every member of the cast and crew. #BellBottomCompleted

‘Bell Bottom’ directed by Ranjit M Tewari is a spy thriller shot completely abroad. It is the official remake of the Kannada film of the same name. Huma Quereshi, Lara Dutta and Vaani Kapoor are the three female leads in the film. Malayali cinematographer Rajeev Ravi has cranked the camera in ‘Bell Bottom’. The ace DOP is well known for his recurring collaboration with Anurag Kashyap. ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’, ‘Dev D’ and ‘Udta Punjab’ are some of his most popular works in Bollywood.

‘Bell Bottom’ is jointly produced by Vashu Bhagnani, Jackky Bhagnani, Deepshikha Deshmukh, Monisha Advani, Madhu Bhojwani and Nikkhil Advani. It is scheduled to hit the screens on April 2, 2021.

Shruthi Ramachandran and husband Francis Thomas script Jayaram-Kalidas duo’s segment in Putham Pudhu Kaalai

As reported earlier, five prominent filmmakers from Tamil cinema are coming together for ‘Putham Pudhu Kaalai’, an Amazon Prime original film. It is an anthology of 5 short films featuring stories of love, new beginnings, second chances, and a glimmer of hope during these tough times. Sudha Kongara, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Rajiv Menon, Karthik Subbaraj and Suhasini Mani Ratnam are directing the films. All the stories are set and shot during the COVID-19 lockdown time.

Sudha Kongara’s film titled ‘Ilamai Idho Idho’ has a stellar star cast comprising of Kalidas Jayaram, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Urvashi and Jayaram in the lead roles. Madhavan is also said to be part of the film. Interestingly, this segment is scripted by Malayali actress Shruthi Ramachandran (Pretham, Sunday Holiday) and her husband Francis Thomas.

Francis, a Tamilian, had earlier scripted the Malayalam thriller ‘Anveshanam’ that had Jayasurya and Shruthi as the leads. It will be interesting to see how the writer couple has treated a short film subject that is part of an anthology. For ‘Ilamai Idho Idho’, director Sudha has retained DOP Niketh Bommireddy and composer GV Prakash from ‘Soorarai Pottru’.

Karthik Subbaraj’s segment in ‘Putham Pudhu Kaalai’ is titled as ‘Miracle’. It has Bobby Simha and ‘Petta’ fame Muthu Kumar in the lead roles. Gautham Menon’s film has an interesting title — ‘Avarum Naanum/Avalum Naanum’. MS Baskar and Ritu Varma star in it. Govind Vasantha is composing the music for this segment.

Suhasini Mani Ratnam’s film is titled as ‘Coffee, Anyone?’. Suhasaini herself is playing one of the leads alongside her cousins Anu Haasan and Shruti Haasan. Rajiv Menon’s segment titled ‘Reunion’ is headlined by Andrea Jeremiah, ‘OK Kanmani’ fame Leela Samson and Sikkhil Gurucharan.

‘Putham Pudhu Kaalai’ is scheduled to premiere on Amazon Prime Video on October 16.

Paava Kadhaigal star cast announced

‘Paava Kadhaigal’ is Netflix’s maiden Tamil anthology that has films helmed by popular directors Gautham Menon, Vetrimaaran, Sudha Kongara and Vignesh Shivan. Ronnie Screwvala’s RSVP Movies and Ashi Dua Sara’s Flying Unicorn Entertainment are jointly producing the film.

‘Paava Kadhaigal’, which translates to sin stories, has four storylines that will explore how love, pride and honour influence complex relationships. As confirmed by the makers, it will be an intense film with gut-wrenching moments in it.

All the four films boast the presence of talented actors. Vignesh Shivan’s film titled as ‘Love Panna Uttranum’ stars Anjali and Bollywood actress Kalki Koechlin in the lead roles. It is said to the quirkiest of the four with the director attempting a dark comedy. Anirudh has composed music for this film.

Sudha Kongara’s film has been titled as ‘Thangam’. It has Malayali actor Kalidas Jayaram, Shanthanu Bhagyaraj and GV Prakash’s younger sister Bhavani Sre in the lead roles. Kalidas is said to be essaying the role of a transgender in the film. This segment has music composed by Justin Prabhakaran.

In Vetrimaaran’s film, ‘Or Iravu’, Sai Pallavi and Prakash Raj will be seen in the lead roles. Gautham Menon’s film has been titled as ‘Vaanmagal’ and it has the director himself playing the lead along with Simran.

Though an exact date has not yet been announced, ‘Paava Kadhaigal’ is scheduled to premiere this month itself.

Janhvi Kapoor to star in the Hindi remake of Nayanthara’s Kolamaavu Kokila

Nayanthara’s hit Tamil film ‘Kolamaavu Kokila’ aka ‘Ko Ko’ is all set to be remade in Hindi. Janhvi Kapoor will be starring in the film’s Hindi version. Debutant Siddharth Sengupta will be directing and Anand L Rai is producing it. More details regrading the project are awaited.

‘Kolamaavu Kokila’ directed by Nelson Dilipkumar is a heroine-centric crime comedy. The film got released in August 2018 and was well received. Critics praised Nayanthara’s performance and Anirudh’s music, which was the film’s biggest highlight. It eventually went on to become a box office success. The Hindi version is expected to be tweaked to suit the sensibilities of the North Indian audience. Pankaj Matta is adapting the script.

Janhvi Kapoor meanwhile is on a high after the success of ‘Gunjan Saxena’. Besides ‘Kolamavu Kokila’, she is also starring in another South Indian film’s remake. She has signed to play the lead role in the Hindi version of hit Malayalam film ‘Helen’.

Simran and Gautham Menon will be seen playing the lead roles in the latter’s own directorial, ‘Vaanmagal’, which is part of the upcoming Netflix anthology ‘Paava Kadhaigal’. Besides Menon, directors like Sudha Kongara, Vetrimaaran and Vignesh Shivn are also helming a segment each.

Gautham Menon and Simran had previously worked together in ‘Vaaranam Aayiram’. The National award winning film directed by Menon had Suriya in a dual role and Simran as one of the female leads. Her performance in it was widely praised. After over a decade’s gap, the two also collaborated in ‘Dhruva Natchathiram’, which is yet to be completed. Since the two have interacting with each other as a filmmaker and an actress all this while, it will be interesting to see them share screen space for the first time.

‘Paava Kadhaigal’ will be a very intense anthology that reportedly has honour killing as the common theme. Vignesh Shivan’s film titled as ‘Love Panna Uttranum’ stars Anjali and Bollywood actress Kalki Koechlin. Anirudh has composed the music for it.

After Amazon Prime announced their Tamil anthology film ‘Putham Pudhu Kaalai’, the other leading OTT, Netflix has now announced theirs. Titled as ‘Paava Kadhaigal’, it is a four-part anthology that has films helmed by popular directors Gautham Menon, Vetrimaaran, Sudha Kongara and Vignesh Shivan. Its release date has not yet been announced.

Honour killing is said to be the common theme in ‘Paava Kadhaigal’. Vignesh Shivan’s film titled as ‘Love Panna Uttranum’ stars Anjali and Bollywood actress Kalki Koechlin in the lead roles.

Samyuktha Menon in VK Prakash’s bilingual film Erida

VK Prakash is set to helm a Tamil-Malayalam bilingual film titled ‘Erida’. Samyuktha Menon will be seen playing the lead role in the film along with Nassar and Kishore. It looks like a female centric film as the title poster comes with the tagline, ‘A Tale of a Goddess in Love’. YV Rajesh, who has scripted films like ‘Romanas’ ‘Georgettan’s Pooram’ and ‘Vikadakumaran’, is penning this film as well. He has previously collaborated with VK Prakash in ‘Marubhoomiyile Aana’, ‘Gulumaal’ and ‘3 Kings’.

‘Erida’ has S Loganathan as the cinematographer and Abhijith Shylanath as the music director. Suresh Urs is the editor and Art department will be handled by Ajay Mangad. Ajji Meddayil and Aroma Babu are joining producing the film under the banner of Aroma Cinemas And Good Company.

VK Prakash has multiple other projects in various stages of production. His debut Kannada film ‘Vishnupriya’ starring Priya Varrier and Malayalam film ‘Oruthee’ that marks the comeback of Navya Nair are in the post-production phase.

VK Prakash is also reuniting with his frequent collaborator Anoop Menon for a film titled ‘Oru Nalpathukarante Irupathiyonnkaari’. Anoop Menon and Priya Varrier are playing the lead roles in the film that is yet to start rolling. The director had also announced that he would be making the E Sreedharan biopic ‘Rama Sethu’ with Jayasurya in the lead.
