Drishyam 2 set to go on floors on September 7

Shoot for Mohanlal-Jeethu Joseph combo’s ‘Drishyam 2’ was originally planned to begin this month. However, due to the increase in Covid-19 cases, the makers had decided to wait. Mohanlal had recently returned back from Chennai and was in quarantine for the last couple of weeks. He has been tested negative and the makers are now planning to go ahead with the shoot. If all goes well, shoot will begin on September 7. Just like the first part, Thodupuzha will once again be the major location.

Since the first part was a huge hit that also went on to be remade successfully, expectations are high on ‘Drishyam 2’. As per director Jeethu Joseph, the sequel will continue from exactly from where the first part ended with the story revolving around the lives of Georgekutty and family. Along with Mohanlal, all the major actors including Meena, Ansiba Haasan, Esther Anil, Siddique, Asha Sarath and Kalabhavan Shajon are most likely to be retained.

Mohanlal’s own production house Aashirvad Cinemas is producing the film. A formal announcement with full details regarding the cast and crew is expected to be made soon.

No OTT release for Mammootty’s One; Makers confirm theatrical release

Recently, it was reported that Netflix has bagged the streaming rights of Mammootty’s upcoming film ‘One’. It lead to speculations that the film will be releasing directly in Netflix. However, the makers have confirmed that they are only looking for a theatrical release. It must also be noted that the film’s shoot has not yet been completed. An important sequence involving Mammootty amidst a huge crowd still remains to be shot.

‘Chirakodinja Kinavukal’ fame Santhosh Viswanath is directing ‘One’ that has Mammootty playing the lead role of Kerala Chief Minister Kadakkal Chandran. Bobby and Sanjay have scripted the film. It is a big-scale film that has been made for the big screen experience. Hence the makers want the audience to enjoy the film in theatres.

The fact that Mammootty he is doing a full-fledged political film after a very long gap in Malayalam and add to that, his first time collaboration with the famed writer duo of Bobby and Sanjay has heightened the expectations. The promos have also been highly promising so far.

As soon as the shoot restrictions are relaxed, the makers will be wrapping up the remaining portions.

Suriya pays condolences to Karipur plane crash victims and salutes the people of Malappuram!

The Karipur plane crash incident has grabbed widespread attention with many from across the country paying their condolences to the deceased. 18 people including the two pilots were killed when the Air India Express from Dubai with 190 people on board overshot the tabletop runway and fell into into a valley 35 feet below.

The immediate response of the locals in the area saved the lives of hundreds as they carried the injured to hospitals in their own vehicles, braving harsh weather and COVID-19 fears, even before the government’s rescue teams reached the spot. Their humanitarian act has been earning praise from all over with the carrier, Air India, themselves thanking the people of Malappuram.

Tamil actor Suriya has also joined in saluting the people of Malappuram in addition to paying his condolences to the victims in the crash. His most recent tweet reads,

‘Lal Singh Chaddha’, Aamir Khan’s Hindi version of the English classic ‘Forrest Gump’, is eagerly awaited by many. The film was originally planned as a Christmas 2020 release and the makers were on track with swift progress in shoot, before the pandemic struck. Works have been put on hold for the last few months and that has forced a change in release plans. The film has now been pushed to next year December.

Trade anlayst Taran Adarsh broke the news about the release postponing. He tweeted,

‘Lal Singh Chaddha’ is directed by Advait Chandan of ‘Secret Superstar’ fame. Veteran actor Atul Kulkarni has scripted the film. Kareena Kapoor plays the female lead and Tamil actor Vijay Sethupathi is also said to be playing an important role.

The makers are planning to resume shoot in foreign countries. The remaining portions of the film will be shot in Turkey and Georgia. Both these countries are separated by a two-hour flight distance and have done relatively well to control the pandemic.

Aamir Khan set to resume shoot for Lal Singh Chaddha in Turkey

After months of waiting for the Covid-19 crisis to end, Aamir Khan has finally decided to go ahead with the shoot of his much-anticipated film ‘Lal Singh Chaddha’. It is learnt that the team is planning to resume shoot the film in foreign countries. The makers have zeroed in on Turkey and Georgia as the ideal locations. Both these countries are separated by a two-hour flight distance and have done relatively well to control the pandemic.

‘Lal Singh Chaddha’ is the official remake of classic American film ‘Forrest Gump’. The Hindi version is being directed by Advait Chandan of ‘Secret Superstar’ fame. Veteran actor Atul Kulkarni has scripted the film. Kareena Kapoor plays the female lead and Tamil actor Vijay Sethupathi is also said to be playing an important role.

Aamir Khan is also producing the film jointly with Viacom 18 Motion Productions. The makers had originally announced it as Christmas 2020 release but it seems highly unlikely as 30-35% of the portions still remain to be shot.

Tovino Thomas starrer ‘Kilometers and Kilometers’ gets a direct OTT release

When it comes to direct OTT release, Malayalam filmmakers are still in two minds. Vijay Babu of Friday Film House set the ball rolling by releasing ‘Sufiyum Sujathayum’ directly in Amazon Prime. It was the first mainstream Malayalam film to have a direct OTT release. As per latest reports, yet another film has now been confirmed for digital release. Tovino Thomas’ much delayed ‘Kilometers and Kilometers’ will soon be premiering in Hotstar + Disney. More details are awaited.

‘Kilometers and Kilometers’ has been in the making for over two years now. The film was supposed to hit screens much earlier but got delayed multiple times due to various reasons. Written and directed by Jeo Baby of ‘2 Penkuttikal’ fame, the film is said to be a travel based fun entertainer.

According to Tovino, who is also one of the film’s producers, it is a proper commercial entertainer backed by strong content. He plays the role of a normal Malayali youngster while a foreign actress named India Jarvis essays the female lead’s part. The story evolves as the two set out on a journey covering various places across India.

‘Oru Adaar Love’ fame Sinu Sidharth has cranked the camera. Rahman Mohammed Ali and Prejish Praksh are jointly handling the edits and Sooraj S Kurup is composing the songs. Sushin Shyam is in charge of the background score. Tovino is backing the project along with Ramshi Ahamed, Anto Joseph, and Sinu Sidharth.

Suriya and director Hari were supposed to team up for a new film titled ‘Aruvaa’. It was announced as a rural mass entertainer on the lines of the same combo’s hit film ‘Vel’. Shoot was planned to kick-start earlier this year but due to the Covid-19 situation, the makers had to put on hold. Kollywood medias are now reporting that the film is now on the verge of getting dropped.

Director Hari is instead planning another film with Arun Vijay, who is also his brother-in-law. The actor was recently spotted sporting a new look, which is said to be his appearance for Hari’s film, also a rural drama.

Suriya meanwhile is said to be prepping up for ‘Vaadivasal’, which is to be directed by Vetrimaaran. He has also committed for films with directors Pandiraj and Siva. His ambitious film ‘Soorarai Pottru’ is expected to hit screens soon after things return back to normalcy.

One of India’s leading playback singers Arijit Singh has now rated the song ‘Cherathukal’ from ‘Kumbalangi Nights’ as a masterpiece. Singh shared the song in his Facebook handle and captioned it as a ‘masterpiece’. The track is composed by Sushin Shyam and sung by Sithara. Anwar Ali has penned the lyrics. It is a lullaby like song that captures the true essence of the film. Sushin’s soulful composition and Sithara’s delightful rendition makes it a truly heartwarming song. Recently, Tamil actress Jyothika found herself in the eye of a storm after her comments on the poor maintenance of Thanjavur government hospital was misinterpreted by religious groups. At an awards ceremony, Jyothika had stated that she was spellbound on seeing how well the famous Brihadeeswara temple in Thanjavur was maintained. However, she also pointed out that, in the same district, a government hospital was poorly maintained. She opined that the hospital should also be taken care of and maintained in the same way as the temple. This speech created quite a controversy after many Hindu outfits came out severely against her and family.

Jyotika has now walked the talk by donating Rs 25 lakh to the Thanjavur government hospital. Apart from financial assistance, she has also contributed for medical equipment, beds and to the beautification of the pediatric block with colour painting and renovation of the children’s park. She transferred the amount through Tamil Nadu Health Minister Vijaya Bhaskar.
