South Indian actress Nikki Galrani tests positive for Covid-19

Popular South Indian actress Nikki Galrani has been diagnosed with the novel Corona virus. Last day, Nikki took to her Twitter handle to inform about the diagnosis. She wrote,

I was tested Positive for #COVID-19 last week. I’m on my way to recovery and feeling much better now. I’d like to thank my close ones for looking out for me, all the frontline Health Workers & mainly the #Chennai #TamilNadu #Corporation for their Constant Support.

Along with the brief tweet, the actress also added a note, which reads,

Hi everyone, I was tested for Covid-19 last week & my results came out positive. There is a lot of stigma & uncertainty surrounding the corona virus so I wanted to share my experience with you guys. Thankfully mine was a mild case with the usual symptoms such as bad throat, fever, loss of smell & taste etc. However, I’m recovering well following all the necessary protocols. I feel lucky to be able to stay home & quarantine. I know it’s a really scary time for everyone right now and it’s important that we be safe & think of other people’s safety. Considering my age & that I have no pre existing medical conditions, i know I’ll get through this. But it scares me when I think of my parents, elders, my friends & everyone else who could be much more affected by this disease. So please be sure to wear a mask, maintain social distancing, wash your hands regularly, & don’t go out unless you absolutely have to. I know it’s frustrating to sit at home for so many months but we’re living in an unprecedented time and it’s time to do your part for the society. Spend time with your families, stay in touch with your friends, protect your mental health & please reach out for help if you’re feeling anxious or depressed.

Mohanlal looks intense and fierce as Marakkar, the warrior. Fans are eagerly waiting to the superstar’s portrayal of Kunjali Marakkar.

‘Marakkar’ is an epic historic film made on a whopping budget of about Rs 100 crore with top artists and technicians from across the country associated with it. Suniel Shetty, Arjun, Keerthy Suresh, Pranav Mohanlal, Manju Warrier, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Ashok Selvan, Prabhu, Mukesh, Suhasini Mani Ratnam, Siddique and many others are part of the cast. Several foreign actors are also playing major roles in the film.

National award winning cinematographer Tirru and production designer Sabu Cyril are part of the technical team. Aashirvad Cinemas, Confident Group and Moonshot Entertainment are jointly producing this mega budget film. It was originally scheduled to hit screens in March but due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak worldwide, the release had to be postponed.

Film Exhibitors United Organisation of Kerala strictly opposes OTT release

The long standing debate of direct OTT release still continues in the Malayalam film industry. Initially, all the organizations including FEFKA where against OTT release but later they were convinced that small films could be given an exemption. However, the Film Exhibitors United Organisation of Kerala (FEUOK) are still firm on their stand.

In a statement released last day, they have clearly mentioned that they will not be co-operating with those who are opting for OTT platforms directly before theatrical release. The Anto Joseph production ‘Kilometers & Kilometers’ has however been given an exemption as they claim that the movie has been affected by piracy. The film starring Tovino Thomas will be out soon on Hostar + Disney and is also likely to have a television premiere in Asianet for Onam.

FEUOK’s statement has been criticized sarcastically by many from within the industry including Aashiq Abu, Vijay Babu and Ashiq Usman.

Telugu filmmaker SS Rajamouli and his family have been tested negative for the novel coronavirus. The director himself shared the info all his concerned followers through his social media handle. He also added that they will be waiting for another three weeks to see if he has developed enough antibodies for plasma donation.

Rajamouli’s tweet reads,

Completed 2 weeks of quarantine! No symptoms. Tested just for the sake of it… It is negative for all of us…
Doctor said we need to wait 3 weeks from now to see if we’ve developed enough antibodies for plasma donation!

On July 29, Rajamouli broke the news about him an family getting diagnosed with Covid-19. He was working on his ambitious dual hero film, ‘RRR’ before the pandemic brought things to a standstill. Jr NTR, Ram Charan, Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn star in the film, which is a mega-budget period project set in the pre-Independence era.

‘Bilal’, the sequel to Mammootty’s cult gangster film ‘Big B’, was about to begin shoot in full swing when the lockdown was announced. The makers were forced to drop their plans and ever since then, fans have been waiting to hear when shoot will be resuming. Written and Unni R and directed by Amal Neerad, ‘Bilal’ is easily the most hyped Mammootty starrer in the making.

Along with Mammootty, actors like Bala, Mamta Mohandas and Lena who all played important roles in the first part have been retained in the sequel as well. In a recent interview to The Cue, actor Jaffer Idukki revealed that he is also part of the film. He will be seen reprising his character Shamsu from ‘Big B’. He has even shot for a few portions before the lockdown. In ‘Big B’, his character was into breeding dogs and selling them but when it comes to ‘Bilal’, he will be seen doing a different business.

Besides ‘Bilal’, Jaffer Idukki also has several other projects coming up. ‘Churuli’, ‘Keshu Ee Veedinte Nathan’, ‘Karnan Napoleon Bhagath Singh’ and ‘Djinn’ are some of them.

The multi-talented Shabareesh Varma of ‘Premam’ fame is coming up with a new song video, which is apparently an inspiring track that should instill a sense of hoping during these challenging times. It is written and conceived by Shabareesh. Kishan Mohan and is the music producer and it is arranged and programmed by Prakash Alex.

The track titled ‘Lokam’ features popular celebrities like Alphonse Puthren, Nivin Pauly, Asif Ali, Darshana Rajendran, Chemban Vinod Jose, Vinay Forrt, Vineeth Sreenivasan, Nobi Marcose, Saiju Kurup, Siju Wilson, Gauthami Nair, Krishna Shankar, Swasika, Ahaana Krishna, Balu Varghese, Sharafudheen and ‘Thaneermathan Dhinangal’ fame Dinoy Paulose.

Shabareesh, Darshana Rajendran, Ahaana Krishna, Sayanora Philip, Resmi Satheesh, Niranj Suresh, Sachin Warrier and Mujeeb Majeed have lent the vocals. Its teaser was out last day and the full song is expected to be out soon.

Earlier, Tamil superstar Kamal Hassan has made a similar song which was titled as ‘Arivum Anbum’. Haasan brought together a bunch of artists from the South Indian film industry for the song, which he penned, conceived and directed.

Veteran Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt has been diagnosed with lung cancer. The actor will soon be travelling to the US for advanced treatment. Dutt himself took to his social media handle to inform his followers that he will be taking a short break. He posted,

Hi friends, I am taking a short break from work for some medical treatment. My family and friends are with me and I urge my well- wishers not to worry or unnecessarily speculate. With your love and good wishes, I will be back soon!

The news of Sanjay Dutt being diagnosed with lung cancer has shocked many. Several fans and celebs have wished the actor speedy recovery through social medias. Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh, a cancer survivor, penned a brief motivating note for Dutt which reads,

You are, have and always will be a fighter @duttsanjay. I know the pain it causes but I also know you are strong and will see this tough phase through. My prayers and best wishes for your speedy recovery.

Earlier this month, the 61-year-old Dutt was admitted to a private hospital in Mumbai after he complained about breathlessness. He did a Covid-19 test and the result was negative. The actor was discharged from the hospital after two days.

‘Sadak 2’ starring Alia Bhatt, Sanjay Dutt, Aditya Roy Kapur and Pooja Bhatt is set to premiere on Disney Plus Hotstar on August 28. It is the sequel to the 1991 film ‘Sadak’ that had Sanjay Dutt and Pooja Bhatt in major roles. Mahesh Bhatt, who directed the first part, is helming the sequel as well. His brother Mukesh Bhatt is producing the film.

The trailer of ‘Sadak 2’ has just been released online. From the three-minute long trailer, it looks like an emotional ride with Sanjay Dutt and Alia Bhatt appearing in fine form. Aditya Roy Kapur plays Alia’s boyfriend in the film. Sanjay Dutt reprises his role of Ravi, the taxi driver. The sequel is about Ravi’s depression and how he helps a young woman’s encounter with a godman, who is out to expose this fake guru running an ashram. Makarand Deshpande will be seen as the godman in the film.

Tamil superstar Vijay has taken part in the Green India Challenge by planting a tree sapling at his home in Chennai. He also shared photos of the same in his official social media handle. Vijay also thanked Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu for nominating him. Along with the photos, Vijay wrote,

Within an hour, Mahesh Babu replied to Vijay by thanking him for taking up the challenge. His tweet reads,

Photos of Vijay planting the sapling has gone viral across social medias. It is not often that the star shares something besides his film updates in his social media handle, so fans got highly excited on his seeing his new photos.

The Green India Challenge is a welcome initiative that requires people to plant tree saplings at their home or at a public space. It became more popular after Telugu film stars actively participated in it.

Recently, on his birthday, Mahesh Babu planted a sapling at his home and nominated Vijay, Telugu actor Jr NTR and Shruti Haasan to continue the same. Now that Vijay has accepted the challenge, it’s the turn of the other two stars.

Shane Nigam starrer ‘Veyil’ has seen a lot of controversy times right through its making. But the makers finally managed to wrap up shoot this June. They are now coming out with a trailer. It will be released in YouTube on August 17. Producer Joby George informed the same through his social media handle.

‘Veyil’ directed by debutant Sarath Menon has to be one of the most talked about Malayalam films in recent years. It all started when Shane Nigam alleged that producer Joby George was giving him death threats. The producer on his part accused Shane of unprofessional behavior. Later, after the intervention of various film governing bodies, things were resolved between the two parties. But things further escalated when shoot resumed.

Shane walked out of the location and shaved his hair as a protest against the crew of ‘Veyil’. Shane’s action was slammed by many from within the industry and it lead to the youngster getting a temporary ban from Malayalam cinema. All the issues were settled after multiple rounds of discussions.

The makers will be hoping that all the struggle and efforts that went behind the making of ‘Veyil’ is worth it. The film expected to get a theatrical release soon after the Corona crisis is over.
