Kalidas plays a trasgender in Sudha Kongara’s next?

We had earlier reported about Kalidas Jayaram starring in Sudha Kongara’s upcoming film, which is part of a Netflix anthology. It is learnt that the young actor will be seen as a transgender in this film. As per a report in TNM, Kalidas’ performance will stand out in the anthology and director Sudha has also been highly impressed by him.

This will be Kalidas’ third outing in Tamil. His debut film ‘Oru Pakka Kathai’, which was shot long back, is yet to be released. He had also starred in a film titled ‘Meen Kuzhambum Mann Paanaiyum’. Along with Kalidas, Sudha’s film will also have Bhavani Sre and Shanthanu Bhagyaraj in the lead roles. The segment has music scored by Justin Prabhakaran.

The anthology also has films directed by Vetrimaaran, Gautham Vasudev Menon and Vignesh Shivan. In Vetrimaaran’s film, Sai Pallavi and Prakash Raj play the lead roles. Vignesh Shivan’s segment will feature Anjali and Bollywood actress Kalki Koechlin. Details regarding Gautham Menon’s film are not yet known.

Ranveer Singh shares about his first fanboy moment with MS Dhoni

Former Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh announced his retirement from international cricket last day. Though it was expected, fans still couldn’t digest the news. Arguably the most popular Indian cricketer after Sachin Tendulkar, Dhoni was admired by people across all walks of the society. Many are now sharing their memories about Dhoni in social medias.

Bollywood star Ranveer Singh has penned a note in which he details about his first ever meeting with Dhoni and how they bonded over the years. Ranveer also shared some photos, which he called his prized possession. His note reads,

This little gem of a photo is one of my prized possessions. It was taken around the year 2007/08 at ND Studio in Karjat. I was about 22 years old, working as an assistant director. I took up this particular job only because the ad film featured the one & only MS Dhoni. I was overworked and underpaid, but I didn’t care- I just wanted to be in His presence. I was even injured at the time, but I worked through the pain in the hope that as a reward for my sincere efforts, I would be granted a chance to briefly meet MSD and maybe get a photo with him. When I finally met him, I was completely awestruck. He was so humble, so down-to-earth, full of grace and exuded an unmistakable aura of kindness. My love, respect and reverence for him grew even stronger.

After I did my first movie, Sapna (who was our common hairstylist at the time) called me one day and said ‘hey I know you’re a massive MSD fan, hes shooting at Mehboob studio, come & meet him if you’d like’. Man-oh-man! I just dropped everything and rushed to the studio to meet him! He was jovial and warm and praised my performance in BBB. We hung out, I had my cap and jersey signed by him, like a true fanboy. That day, I felt like I was walking on the clouds!

Since then, every time that I have the good fortune of meeting him, I am left energised and enthused, as if a big brother has blessed me with energy and motivation to go out and be the best that I can be. ??

MSD is one of the greatest sportsmen to have ever lived. I’m lucky to have witnessed his playing career in my lifetime. A paragon of excellence. An icon of the sport. My hero forever. ?

Thank you Mahi Bhai for bringing glory to our great nation and filling a billion hearts with pride. ?? #MSD the #GOAT

Keerthy Suresh and Selvaraghavan team up for Saani Kaayitham

‘Mahanati’ star Keerthy Suresh seems to be on a roll. The actress already has multiple projects lined up in various languages and yet another one was announced recently on the occasion of Independence Day. Keerthy and director Selvaraghavan will be starring in a new film titled ‘Saani Kaaviyam’. It will be directed by Arun Matheswaran, whose debut film ‘Rocky’ is still awaiting release.

The announcement of ‘Saani Kaaviyam’ made quite a buzz in social medias thanks to the interesting choice of lead actors. The film marks the acting debut of Selvaraghavan, a director who has a separate fan base among Tamil cinephiles. It will be very interesting to see how Selva, who is known to bring out the best in his actors, performs on screen.

‘Saani Kaaviyam’ will have cinematography by Yamini Yagnamurthy, art direction by Ramu Thangaraj and editing by Nagooran. Screen Scene Studios is producing the film. Details regarding the genre or when shoot will be the commencing are not yet known.

Dulquer Salmaan’s production Maniyarayile Ashokan gears up for OTT release!

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the subsequent closure of theatres, filmmakers are now keen to release their films in OTT platforms. However, in Malayalam film industry, there is still stiff opposition against OTT release from many corners. Despite that, certain filmmakers are already in talks with leading streaming platforms.

It is learnt that Dulquer Salmaan’s upcoming production ‘Maniyarayile Ashokan’ will be releasing in Netflix. Though the makers are yet to officially announce it, talks in social medias suggest that film will be premiering on August 31.

Starring Jacob Gregory in the lead, ‘Maniyarayile Ashokan’ is said to be a fun rom-com set in a rural backdrop. Anupama Parameswaran, Anu Sithara, Shritha Sivadas, Nayana Elza, Shine Ton Chacko and Krishna Shankar are also part of the supporting cast.

Debutant Shamsu Zayba is directing the film and it is scripted by Vineeth Krishnan. Camera is cranked by Sajad Kakku and music department is handled by Sreehari K Nair. Appu N Bhattathiri is editing the film. Dulquer Salmaan is producing it along with Gregory. The film was supposed to hit screens earlier this year, but due to the virus outbreak, the release had to be postponed.

Meanwhile, the Film Exhibitors United Organisation of Kerala (FEUOK) have stated they will not be co-operating with those who are opting for OTT platforms directly before theatrical release. The Anto Joseph production ‘Kilometers & Kilometers’ has however been given an exemption as they claim that the movie has been affected by piracy. The film starring Tovino Thomas will be out soon on Hostar + Disney and is also likely to have its television premiere in Asianet for Onam.

The first video song from upcoming Malayalam film ‘Maniyarayile Ashokan’ has been released online. It is a romantic track featuring the film’s two lead actors, Jacob Gregory and Anupama Parameswaran. KS Harisankar has sung the track and lyrics is penned by BK Harinarayanan. Sreehari K Nair has composed the song.

‘Maniyarayile Ashokan’ is said to be a fun rom-com set in a rural backdrop. The film has an elaborate supporting cast. Along with Anupama Parameswaran, actresses Anu Sithara, Shritha Sivadas and Nayana Elza will also be seen in major roles. Shine Ton Chacko and Krishna Shankar also essay crucial roles.

‘Maniyarayile Ashokan’ has a young team behind the camera, with most of them being newcomers. Debutant Shamsu Zayba is directing the film and it is scripted by Vineeth Krishnan. Camera is cranked by Sajad Kakku and music department is handled by Sreehari K Nair. Appu N Bhattathiri is editing the film.

Independence Day wishes from Thinkalazhcha Nishchayam team!

‘Thinkalazhcha Nishchayam’ is an upcoming Malayalam film directed by Senna Hegde, who has previously made the hit Kannada rom-com ‘Katheyondu Shuruvagide’. He had also made an indie Malayalam film titled 0-41* that was screened at some international film festivals.

‘Thinkalazhcha Nishchaya’ marks the director’s mainstream Malayalam debut. As the title suggests, the film revolves around an engagement ceremony. Similar to ‘0-41*’, this film is also shot completely in Kanhangand. It has a bunch of newcomers in the lead roles. The actors were selected through various rounds of auditions conducted by the makers. Some other known names such as Unniraj Cheruvathur, Rajesh Madhavan, Sajin Cherukayil, Manoj KU and Ranji Kankol are also part of the cast.

On the technical front, Sreeraj Raveendran of ‘Lilli’ fame is handling the cinematography. Notably, he was also the DOP of Senna’s ‘Katheyondu Shuruvagide’. Music is composed by Mujeeb Majeed and edits are done by Harilal K Rajeev. Nixon George is in charge of the sound design.

The film is still in the post-production stage and hence, release plans are not yet known. Vinod Divakar is the executive producer and the film is produced under the banner of Pushkar Films.

The multi-talented Shabareesh Varma has come up with a new music video titled ‘Lokam’. It is intended as a Covid-19 awareness video and also a fundraiser for Kerala Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF). The song which is written and conceived by Shabareesh has been released in YouTube today on the occasion of Independence Day.

The video features popular Malayali celebrities like Alphonse Puthren, Nivin Pauly, Asif Ali, Darshana Rajendran, Chemban Vinod Jose, Sharafudheen, Krishna Shankar, Vinay Forrt, Vineeth Sreenivasan, Nobi Marcose, Saiju Kurup, Siju Wilson, Gauthami Nair, Swasika, Ahaana Krishna, Balu Varghese and ‘Thaneermathan Dhinangal’ fame Dinoy Paulose.

Sharing the video in his Facebook page, Nivin Pauly wrote,

Happy to be part of this initiative by Shabare Esh & team! In these adverse times, we need to be cautious and be supportive. Let us all unite together and stop the spread of this pandemic Let’s break the chain!

Shabareesh Varma, Darshana Rajendran, Ahaana Krishna, Sayanora Philip, Resmi Satheesh, Niranj Suresh, Sachin Warrier and Mujeeb Majeed have lent the vocals for the song. Kishan Mohan is the music producer and it is arranged and programmed by Prakash Alex.

Tamil star Ajith’s hit film ‘Vedhalam’ is highly in demand in the remake circles even after 5 years of its release. Producer Bhushan Kumar had earlier acquired the Hindi remake rights of the film and it was reported that John Abraham will be starring in it. Latest reports suggest that yet another remake is in the offing. Megastar Chiranjeevi is likely to star in the Telugu version of ‘Vedhalam’. Meher Ramesh, who had successfully remade ‘Billa’ in Telugu, will be helming this film.

Chiranjeevi was supposed to start works on the remake of Malayalam blockbuster ‘Lucifer’ but the star is not pleased with the film’s adapted script. So it is learnt that the star has decided to put that project on hold and proceed with ‘Vedhalam’ remake. An official announcement is expected to be made on Chiranjeevi’s birthday which falls on August 22. Keerthy Suresh’s upcoming multilingual ‘Good Luck Sakhi’ is gearing up for release. As announced earlier by the makers, the film teaser has been unveiled today on the occasion of Independence Day. The teaser has been released in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam languages. The original teaser has been released by Prabhas and the Malayalam version teaser has been shared by Prithviraj Sukumaran through his social media handle.

‘Good Luck Sakhi’ is a sports rom-com that has Keerthy Suresh essaying the role of a shooter. Two-time National award winning filmmaker Nagesh Kukunoor is directing the film. It also stars Aadhi Pinishetty, Jagapathi Babu and Rahul Ramakrishna in important roles.

The teaser follows Keerthy Suresh’s character Sakhi who is known as ‘bad luck’ Sakhi as misfortune follows her everywhere. Aadi Pinishetty plays the role of a traditional theatre artist while Jagapathi Babu essays the part of her shooting coach. Music director Devi Sri Prasad, veteran editor Sreekar Prasad and DOP Chirantan Das form the core technical team.

Release plans have not yet been announced by the makers.

Shraddha Kapoor to star in the Hindi remake of Amala Paul’s Aadai

As per reports from Kollywood medias, the Amala Paul starrer ‘Aadai’ is getting remade in Hindi. Shraddha Kapoor has been approached to play the lead role in the film. Producer Arun Pandian, who had acquired the remake rights of the film, has now sold it to a popular production house in Mumbai. More details are expected to be revealed in the coming days.

During its time of release last year, ‘Aadai’ had created a quite a buzz. The film directed by Rathna Kumar caught attention for Amala Paul’s bold portrayal of a rebellious young woman who gets trapped naked in a building. It garnered mixed response but the makers were lauded for attempting such a concept and pulling it off without crossing the line of voyeurism.

Initially it was reported that Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut would star in the Hindi remake of ‘Aadai’ in Hindi but it was later denied as rumours.
