Vijay Sethupathi’s Tughlaq Durbar first look poster released

The first look poster of Vijay Sethupathi’s new film ‘Tughlaq Durbar’ was shared online last day. Two shades of Vijay Sethupathi are seen in the poster which itself is kind of intriguing. Directed by debutant Delhi Prasad Deenadayal, the film is a political satire. Aditi Rao Hydari plays the female lead in the movie. Malayali actress Manjima Mohan will be seen in a crucial character as Vijay Sethupathi’s sister.

‘Tughlaq Durbar’ has Vijay Sethupathi playing a politician named Singam. The movie revolves around the transformation of a betrayer into a good person, and how Singam who distances himself from all things good, gradually changes and transforms into a better person. Veteran actor Parthiepan essays the antagonist’s role.

According to the makers, the movie has an out-and-out mass subject. Balaji Tharaneetharan, who has directed films like ‘Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom’ and ‘Seethakaathi’, had penned the dialogues. ‘Tughlaq Durbar’ got delayed as Vijay Sethupathi allotted this film’s dates to ‘Master’. The makers are yet to shoot Aditi Rao Hydari’s portions.

The film’s technical team has Manoj Paramahamsa as the DOP and Govind Vasantha as the music director. It is being produced jointly by 7 Screen Studio and Viacom 18.

‘Maniyarayile Ashokan’ produced by Dulquer Salmaan was supposed to hit screens in the first half of the year but due to the virus outbreak, it had to be postponed. The makers are currently working on the post-production. Recently, Dulquer and the film’s lead actor Jacob Gregory had recorded a track for the film.

‘Maniyarayile Ashokan’ is said to be a fun rom-com. It has a bunch of newcomers behind the camera. Debutant Shamsu Zayba is directing the movie and it is scripted by Vineeth Krishnan. The film has camera cranked by Sajad Kakku, music composed by Sreehari K Nair and edits handled by Appu N Bhattathiri.

There is also the presence of an elaborate supporting cast. ‘Premam’ fame Anupama Parameswaran, Anu Sithara, Shritha Sivadas, Nayana Elza and Krishna Shankar will be seen in major roles. The film is expected to get a theatrical release as soon as things get back to normal.

We had earlier reported about five prominent filmmakers coming together for Netflix’s maiden Tamil original. Just like ‘Lust Stories’ and ‘Ghost Stories’ in Hindi, this one is also an anthology with honour killing as the theme. Directors Sudha Kongara, Vetrimaaran, Gautham Vasudev Menon and Vignesh Shivan are directing a segment each in this anthology.

The film’s cast and crew details have now been leaked online. Vignesh Shivan’s segment stars Anjali and Bollywood actress Kalki Koechlin. Shoot for this portion has already been completed. Sudha Kongara’s film has Malayali actor Kalidas Jayaram, Shanthanu Bhagyaraj and GV Prakash’s younger sister Bhavani Sre in the lead roles. The segment has music composed by Justin Prabhakaran. In Vetrimaaran’s film, Sai Pallavi and Prakash Raj play the lead roles. Gautham Menon’s film stars Ashwin Kakumanu and has music scored by Darbuka Siva.

As per latest reports, the film will be premiering in September.

Kalidas Jayaram to star in Sudha Kongara’s next after Soorarai Pottru

Sudha Kongara is fast climbing up the ranks in Kollywood. Her latest film ‘Soorarai Pottru’ starring Suriya has huge expectations and is slated to hit screens soon after the restrictions are lifted. The director is also in talks with Vijay for a new project which is most likely to be greenlit shortly. In the meanwhile, Sudha is collaborating with some other leading filmmakers from Tamil film industry for a Netflix anthology.

Sudha, Vetrimaaran, Gautham Vasudev Menon and Vignesh Shivan are directing a segment each in this anthology, which has honor killing as the common theme. Sudha’s film has Malayali actor Kalidas Jayaram, Bhavani Sre and Shanthanu Bhagyaraj in the lead roles. The segment has music scored by Justin Prabhakaran. This will be Kalidas’ third outing in Tamil. His debut film ‘Oru Pakka Kathai’, which was shot long back, is yet to be released. He had also starred in a film titled ‘Meen Kuzhambum Mann Paanaiyum’.

In Vetrimaaran’s film, Sai Pallavi and Prakash Raj play the lead roles. Gautham Menon’s film stars Ashwin Kakumanu and has music scored by Darbuka Siva. Vignesh Shivan’s segment will feature Anjali and Bollywood actress Kalki Koechlin.

As per latest reports, the film will be premiering in September.

Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra will be starring in the fourth film of the Matrix series. The film has Keanu Reeves in the lead role. Carrie-Anne Moss, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Neil Patrick Harris will be seen in other major roles. As per reports, Priyanka Chopra is currently shooting for the film in Berlin. The cast of ‘Matrix 4’ trained hard for weeks for fight sequences in the film. They resumed shoot only recently after production was halted in March due to the Covid-19 outbreak. Production in San Francisco had been completed prior to the lockdown.

‘The Matrix’, the original film of the franchise was released in 1999. The science-fiction action film was heavily influenced by martial arts films. This was followed by two more parts that were released in 2003. All three films of the Matrix franchise received critical acclaim and were also praised by the audience. The franchise enjoys a cult status among film lovers worldwide. It is indeed a proud moment that an Indian actress has bagged a major role in it.

Priyanka Chopra has several other exciting projects in the pipeline. She had recently signed a ‘two-year multimillion-dollar first-look television deal’ with Amazon. Through this deal, she aims to bring more South Asian representation to the global television.

Priyanka will also be seen in Sheela, a Netflix docu-series. She will be portraying the role of Ma Anand Sheela, assistant to guru Bhagwan Rajneesh aka Osho. She is also part of the film adaptation of Aravind Adiga’s Booker Prize winning novel The White Tiger’. The Netflix film also starring Rajkummar Rao is being directed by Ramin Bahrani of ‘Fahrenheit 451′ and ’99 Home’ fame.

Sushant Singh Rajput’s last film ‘Dil Bechara’ is gearing up for direct release in Hotstar. Its trailer dropped in YouTube on Monday and as expected, the response has been extraordinary. By now, the trailer has fetched a whopping 2.8 crore views and 58 lakh (5.8 million) likes. With that, ‘Dil Bechara’ trailer has become the most liked trailer in the history of YouTube.

The previous record was held by Marvel Studios’ ‘Avengers Infinity War’ which had 3.6 million likes. ‘Dil Bechara’ also surpassed the previous Indian record held by Tamil superstar Vijay’s Bigil (2.3 million likes) which had earlier smashed the record held by Shah Rukh Khan’s Zero (2 million likes).

‘Dil Bechara’ is the official remake of the popular Hollywood film ‘The Fault In Our Stars’. It is about two teens who fall in love after meeting at a cancer support group. Kizie Basu, played by Sanjana Sanghi, struggles with terminal cancer and is hesitant of getting romantically involved with Immanuel Rajkumar Junior or Manny, played by Sushant Singh Rajput. SaifAliKhan will also be appearing in an extended cameo in the film which has music by maestro AR Rahman.

Mukesh Chhabra is directing ‘Dil Bechara’ that is scheduled for premiere in Hostar on July 24. As a mark of respect to Sushant, Hotstar has made the film available for both subscribers and non-subscribers.

Over the last few years, Parvathy has successfully established herself as one of the leading female actors in Malayalam. With her solid acting skills and courage to voice out opinions on socio-political issues, the actress has become a pan-Indian face. She is also now set to venture into other areas of cinema. For the last few months, Parvathy has been working on the script and pre-production of her directorial debut.

Interestingly, before even making her debut film, Parvathy has been getting offers from leading OTT platforms to write and direct projects for them. The actress herself spoke about this in a recent interview with Film Companion. Parvathy was speaking about female participation in cinema in the post-Corona phase. She revealed that she has been getting more offers to write and direct than to act. She also sounded highly optimistic about more female participation in different parts of filmmaking henceforth.

Parvathy’s maiden directorial was supposed to begin by the end of this year or early 2021, but due to the Covid-19 situatuon, things still remain uncertain. As revealed by her, they have zeroed in on two subjects – one with a strong political background and the other one, a thriller that explores the psychological space between two people. Both the film demands immense research and she has been working on it for sometime now.

Fahadh Faasil opens up about working in Bolllywood!

Fahadh Faasil is regarded as the poster boy of new gen Malayalam cinema among non-Keralites. Of late, almost all his films have got tremendous reception and the actor already has a separate fan base among non-Malayalis. Fahadh has also been getting offers from various industries but due to the language barrier, he has stuck mostly to Malayalam. Though he has acted in a couple of Tamil films, he is still not sure about working in Bollywood and exploring the pan-Indian market.

In a recent interview with Film Companion, Fahadh revealed that he has been getting offers from Hindi and he might take up one when he feels confident enough. He also expressed about his admiration for filmmakers like Meghna Gulzar and Zoya Akhtar. Fahadh also added that, ‘Piku’, according to him, is the best Indian film in the last 10 years.

Interestingly, multiple National award winning filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj had sent a script to Fahadh which he was highly impressed with. He is quoted saying, “I keep interacting with Vishal Bhardwaj. He had actually sent me a script which was so beautiful. I hope he still makes it. Such a beautiful script. When I texted him last time, I said Sir, please make it. I am looking forward to do something there, let’s see”.

In Malayalam, Fahadh’s ambitious film ‘Malik’ was supposed to be released in April but due to the virus outbreak, it had to be postponed. The actor is currently working on a project titled ‘See You Soon’. It is a 90-minute long experimental project helmed by Mahesh Narayanan.

Kasaba makers hints about a sequel on the film’s fourth anniversary!

It has been four years since the release of Mammootty starrer ‘Kasaba’. Nithin Renji Panicker made his entry to cinema by scripting and directing the film. Joby George of Goodwill Entertainments produced it. Though the film was just a moderate success at the box office, Mammootty’s character Rajan Zachariah enjoys wide popularity. Last day, while sharing a thanks note with regard to the film’s anniversary, producer Joby George hinted that if things turn well, Rajan Zachariah might make a comeback. This hint about the possibility of a sequel has already got the fans excited.

In ‘Kasaba’, Rajan Zachariah is a grey-shaded cop with his own unique mannerisms. Mammootty’s performance was praised but the way the character was portrayed received much flak. The makers were criticized heavily by many, including those from within the industry, for glorifying the character’s misogynistic actions and trying to normalize it.

It will be interesting to see how Rajan Zachariah’s character will be sketched if at all a sequel is in the planning.

Roshan Mathew and Darshana Rajendran also part of Fahadh Faasil’s next

Fahadh Faasil had recently started shooting for a project with director Mahesh Narayanan. It is an experiment where the shoot is happening in closed spaces with minimal crew. It is a story revolving around three individuals and interestingly, these characters will not be together. Their conversations will be over phone and video calls. While Fahadh plays one of these characters, the other two will be done by Roshan Mathew and Darshana Rajendran.

Both Roshan and Darshana have been delivering impressive performances of late. Last year, Roshan gave his career best with ‘Moothon’ which later paved way for his Bollywood entry. Anurag Kashyap launched him in Hindi with ‘Choked’. Darshana was first noted for her performance in ‘Maayanadhi’. She later followed it up with an effective cameo in ‘Virus’. She is also part of upcoming films like ‘Thuramukham’ and ‘Hridhyam’.

Mahesh Narayanan’s project is a very ambitious one with minimal setting. It got initiated when the director was discussing an idea with Fahadh Faasil about redesigning a whole film on an edit table. Mahesh pitched a script and Fahadh was impressed by it. First they did a test shoot and after the rough edit came out, Fahadh became confident and took up the production. The film, which has been titled as ‘See You Soon’, will have a duration of around 90-95 minutes and it is most likely to be a direct OTT release.
