More delighted about working with Pranav than Mohanlal in Marakkar Arabikadalinte Simham: Suresh Krishna

Suresh Krishna has proven himself to be one of the most dependable character actors in Malayalam cinema today. He is part of several upcoming films, one among which is the biggie ‘Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham’. It is the actor’s first film with ace filmmaker Priyadarshan and he’s quite thrilled about it. Although he has worked with Mohanlal multiple times in the past, Suresh Krishna feels that acting alongside Pranav was his most exciting factor about ‘Marakkar’.

‘Marakkar’ is an action-epic based on the life of Kunjali Marakkar IV. Priyadarshan has claimed that it will be the most technically perfect film to have ever been made in Indian cinema. The film has a star-studded cast that includes actors from various languages. Suniel Shetty, Arjun Sarja, Keerthy Suresh, Manju Warrier, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Ashok Selvan, Prabhu, Mukesh, Suhasini Mani Ratnam, Siddique and many others are part of the cast. Several foreign actors are also playing major roles in the film.

Mohanlal’s own banner Aashirvad Cinemas, Confident Group and Moonshot Entertainment are jointly producing this mega budget film. The film was scheduled for release in March but due to the Covid-19 outbreak, it had to be postponed.

No more killings in Drishyam 2, confirms Jeethu Joseph!

‘Drishyam 2’ was one of the biggest surprise announcements in recent memory. The project itself got initiated after some sudden developments. It is learnt that the sequel will continue from where the first part ended. Director Jeethu Joseph has confirmed that there will be no more killings in the second part. The story will once again revolve around the lives of Georgekutty and family.

Though the director been pondering over an idea for a sequel for the last few years, a full-fledged script was developed only recently during the lockdown days. Along with Mohanlal, all the major actors including Meena, Ansiba Haasan, Esther Anil, Siddique, Asha Sarath and Kalabhavan Shajon are most likely to be retained.

The makers are planning to start shooting on August 17 in Thodupuzha. They will be wrapping up the entire shoot in just around 60. Aashirvad Cinemas is producing the film. Full details regarding the cast and crew will be announced soon.

With three back-to-back highly impressive performances, Anna Ben who has already carved a niche for herself in the industry. Her last film ‘Kappela’ got released in Netflix recently and is getting excellent response, particularly from the non-Malayali audience. Anna’s upcoming films are now eagerly awaited. The actress was shooting for her next directed by Ranjan Pramod when the lockdown was announced.

It is an action-based thriller for which Anna Ben had trained herself in kick-boxing and parkour. It’s a thriller and I have a lot of action sequences. Anna has revealed that her character is feisty and has a temper. Prior to shoot, she underwent professional training under the guidance of an expert for nearly two months. The film’s cast has several newcomers. Urvashi will be appearing in a cameo role in the film, which is yet to be titled.

Anna was also supposed to start shooting for a new film directed by ‘C/O Saira Banu’ fame Antony Sony in July. It is a rom-com with Anna and Arjun Ashokan as the leads. ‘June’ writers Ahammed Khabeer and Libin Varghese have jointly scripted the film. Due to the Covid-19 situation, it is not yet known when the film will start rolling.

Anoop Menon reveals that Mohanlal was his initial choice for Dasharatha Varma’s role in King Fish!

Anoop Menon is making his directorial debut with ‘King Fish’, which is expected to release soon after theatres resume functioning. The film has been in the making for quite some time now. Anoop has also scripted the film and it was initially supposed to be directed by VK Prakash. However, the latter had to opt out due to other commitments and Anoop stepped in to direct the film.

‘King Fish’ revolves around Bhaskara Varma, who is a member of a royal family. People fondly call him Neymeen Bhasi and the film gets its title from the English name of the fish, kingfish. Anoop Menon plays Bhaskara Varma’s role while director Ranjith will be seen in the role of his maternal uncle Dhasharatha Varma.

In a recent interview to The Cue, Anoop Menon revealed that he initially had Mohanlal in mind for Dhasharatha Varma’s character. He had decided that either Mohanlal or Ranjith should play the part. Anoop Menon was also aware that a superstar like Mohanlal need not play such a character as he has done roles like this before.

‘King Fish’ also stars Divya Pilliai, Niranjana Anoop, Nandu, Durga Krishna, Dhanesh Anand, Aaryan Krishnan Menon, Nirmal Palazhi and many others. Amjith S Koya is producing the film under the banner of Texas Film Factory.

40 more days of shoot still left for Minnal Murali

Minnal Murali, an ambitious superhero film starring Tovino Thomas, was in the halfway stage of shoot when lockdown was announced. Later, in a shocking incident, that was probably the first of its kind in Kerala, Hindu extremist members demolished the structure of a church erected for the film’s shoot. The incident occurred at Kalady where the art department had worked several days to erect a huge structure of a church. The film’s climax portions were supposed to be shot in this church. Unfortunately, the Kalady schedule could not begin in time due to the lockdown.

Basil Joseph, the director of ‘Minnal Murali’, has now revealed that they still have 40 more days of shoot left. The whole team is patiently waiting to see how the Covid-19 threat is negated. Basil is also concerned about the continuity issues and the availability of technicians from abroad. Hollywood-based Vlad Rimburg is choreographing the action sequences in the film.

Scripted by Arun Anirudhan and Justin Mathew, the film tells the story of a rustic youth who gets superhero powers after being struck by a lightning. The film is being made simultaneously in 4 languages – Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi.

After its release in Netflix, ‘Kappela’ has been getting a lot of positive response. The film is getting much appreciation from non-Malayali audience. As it is the case with most quality Malayalam films, ‘Kappela’ now set to be remade in other languages. The film’s Telugu remake rights have been bagged by Sithara Entertainments, who had backed blockbuster films like ‘Ala Vaikunthapuramulo’ and ‘Jersey’. The banner had earlier acquired the rights of other hit Malayalam films like ‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ and ‘Premam’.

‘Kappela’ producer Vishnu Venu shared the big news with his followers in Facebook. He has written,

Announcing a happy news! Kappela is to be remade in telugu by Sithara Entertainments (Producers of Allu Arjun’s Ala Vaikunthapuramulo, Jersey Movie, and many more). Kappela is the third movie from malayalam industry after Premam & Ayyappanum Koshiyum to be bought by them!

‘Kappela’ is directed by actor-turned-filmmaker Muhammed Mustafa. He has also scripted the film jointly with Nikhil Vahid and Sudhas. Anna Ben, Sreenath Bhasi and Roshan Mathew play the lead roles. It is the story of a young woman from a rural background who gets trapped in a particular situation. Basically, the film tries to tell how human perceptions can go awfully wrong. The relevant issue discussed in the film coupled with a suspense-filled screenplay ensures that the film can be remade in any language with some tweaking to make it appealing to the native audience.

Lijo Jose Pellissery to team up with Mammootty?

Few years back, Lijo Jose Pellissery had planned to make a film with megastar Mammootty. Vijay Babu was supposed to produce the film under his banner Friday Film House. However, the project could not materialize then due to some unknown reasons. After years, it is now being reported that Lijo is planning to reunite with Mammootty. It is said that initial round of talks are already over and both the parties have decided to take it forward. A confirmation regarding the same is still awaited.

Miffed with the restrictions enforced by the producers association over shoot of new films, Lijo had recently made it clear that he no longer wishes to be part of the mainstream Malayalam film industry. He declared himself as an independent filmmaker. He informed that he will be releasing his films wherever he feels it’s right because he is the creator.

If news about his upcoming project with Mammootty is true, it will be interesting to see what kind of film Lijo is planning to make. His next release will be ‘Churuli’ starring Chemban Vinod Jose, Vinay Forrt and Joju George. The director is also work on another film with Chemban in the lead.

Kannan Thamarakkulam is directing a film based on the Maradu flats demolition, an incident that grabbed widespread attention. Titled as ‘Maradu 357’, the film is scripted by Dinnesh Pallath. The first song video from the film has been released online. Titled as ‘Maanam Meethe’, it is a party song that features actors like Manoj J Jayan, Sheelu Abraham, Noorin Sherif, Baiju Santhosh, Dharmajan Bolgatty, Sarayu, Kailash, Sudheesh and many others. It seems the song is centred around the flat’s anniversary celebrations.

4 Musics have composed the song. Anoop Menon plays one of the lead roles in the film. Dharmajan who is mostly known for his comedy roles is playing a performance oriented character. He will be seen as a flat security who has his one hand amputated. There is also an elaborate supporting cast. ‘Maradu 357’ has cinematography by Ravichandran and editing handled by VT Sreejith. The band 4 Musics has composed the songs while background score is done by Saanand George Grace. Interestingly, actor Unni Mukundan has also penned a 3-minute long Hindi song for the film.

Despite the fact that the Covid-19 pandemic is yet to brought under control, Malayalam film industry has slowly resumed functioning. Though not in a full-fledged manner, filmmakers like Aashiq Abu, Lijo Jose Pellissery, Khalidh Rahman and Mahesh Narayanan have already started their works. Since there is an uncertainty regarding when situation will get better, they feel that taking safety precautions is the only way forward.

Meanwhile, the Kerala Film Producers Council had also requested film stars to reduce their remuneration to deal with the current financial crunch. The proposal was received positively by the actors’ body AMMA. It is now learnt that director Jeethu Joseph is taking a pay cut for his upcoming film ‘Drishyam 2’. Lead actor Mohanlal himself is producing the film under his banner Aashirvad Cinemas.

They are planning to start shooting on August 17. Their decision to go ahead with the shoot comes at a time when the producers association has asked filmmakers not to start new films until the ones that were completed before lockdown get released. However, director Jeethu Joseph believes that new film shoots should be permitted to ensure that the livelihood of daily wage labourers is not affected any further.

Dileep meanwhile is said to have signed another film with director Joshiy. Reportedly, it is a media-based film titled as ‘On Air’. Dileep will be seen playing the role of a journalist in this film. It is scripted by newcomers Arun and Niranjan. Sajin Jaffar, who was a former associate of Asif Ali in his production ventures, will be funding this film independently under the banner of Jaffer’s Productions.

‘Keshu Ee Veedinte Nathan’, ‘Professor Dinkan’ and ‘Parakkum Pappan’ are some of Dileep’s other upcoming projects.
