Kerala government is doing incredibly well in containing the spread of the deadly Corona virus. Though the state has one of the highest number of infected patients in the country, the numbers have come down drastically thanks to the excellent work by the Pinarayi Vijayn-led government, particularly the health department.

Veteran Malayalam filmmaker Priyadarshan has showered praise on Kerala’s Health Minister KK Shailaja Teacher for spearheading the fight against Corona. He even called her the state’s Florence Nightingale and an inspiration to many. Sharing a photo of the Minister in his social media handle, Priyadarshan has written,

The Florence Nightingale of Kerala ! – Smt. K K Shailaja Teacher, An inspiration to many.

Your attempt to save our citizens are highly appreciable.

Meanwhile, Malayalam film lovers across the world are still waiting for the release of Priyadarshan’s dream project ‘Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham’. The mega budget film starring Mohanlal and a host of other stars was originally supposed to hit screens on March 26 but it had to be postponed due to the virus outbreak. New release date is expected to be announced only after the current crisis is over.

Reba Monica John is slowly but steadily making a mark in the Tamil and Malayalam film industries. Though the actress started her career in Malayalam, it was her role in the Vijay starrer ‘Bigil’ that proved to be a big break for her. She is now getting plum roles and is carefully picking her projects. The actress, who is pretty active in social medias, recently had a live interaction with her followers. During the chat, she revealed that is her dream to work with actors like Fahadh Faasil and Soubin Shahir.

The last couple of yeaes had seen Fahadh Faasil and Soubin delivering a wide range of performances. While Fahadh has been very consistent, Soubin has come a long way from doing fun, sidekick roles. He managed to impress one and all with his performance in films like ‘Sudani From Nigeria’, ‘Kumbalangi Nights’ and ‘Virus’. Currently, both the actors have some highly promising projects in their kitty.

Reba meanwhile has two films in Tamil in different stages of production. One is ‘Mazhaiyil Nanaigiren’ and the other is ‘FIR’, a thriller starring Vishnu Vishal in the lead. She was last seen in Malayalam in this year’s hit crime-thriller ‘Forensic’.

Covid 19: Mohanlal donates Rs 50 lakhs to Kerala Cheif Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund

Kerala is one of the worst affected states by the deadly Corona virus. The government machineries are working tirelessly to contain the spread of the virus. To help in the government’s fight against the virus outbreak, Malayalam superstar Mohanlal has contributed a sum of Rs 50 lakhs to the Chief Minister’s disaster relief fund. In a letter addressed to State CM Pinarayi Vijayan, Mohanlal heaped praised on his leadership. It reads,

Dear Sir,

These are very trying times for all of us. We deeply appreciate the safety measures and guidelines that you have set for us to contain this pandemic. Your hands on leadership in this crisis will go down in the annals of our history. Please accept my humble contribution of Rs 50,00,000 (Rs 50 lakhs only) to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund which may be used for the safety measures/relief steps initiated from your office to contain this pandemic. Please continue with your efforts Sir, our wishes are with you.

Mohanlal is perhaps the first from the Malayalam film industry to provide financial assistance to the government. Earlier, he had donated Rs 10 lakhs to the daily wage workers of the film industry who have been severely hit due to the complete lockdown.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that Allu Arjun plays a lorry driver in ‘Pushpa’. Tamil star Vijay Sethupathi will also be seen in a prominent role. It is said that the film revolves around red sanders smuggling with Allu Arjun playing a lorry driver’s role and Vijay Sethupathi as a forest officer. An official confirmation is awaited in this regard.

‘Pushpa’ has Rashmika Mandanna as the female lead. Prakash Raj, Jagapati Babu, Harish Uthaman, Vennela Kishore, Anasuya Bharadwaj, Anish Kuruvilla and many others are part of the supporting cast. Devi Sri Prasad is composing the music and Polish cameraman Miroslaw Kuba Brozek handles the camera.

The movie will be releasing in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada. Hence the makers have released the first look poster in all five languages.

A new song teaser from the ‘Velleppam’ got released last day. Vineeth Sreenivasan has lent his voice for this romantic track. Full version of the song is expected to be out very soon. ‘Velleppam’ is a rom-com entertainer starring ‘Pathinettam Padi’ fame Akshay Radhakrishnan and ‘Oru Adaar Love’ fame Noorin Shereef in the lead roles. Debutant Praveen Raj Pookkadan is directing the film.

Roma Asrani, who was been away from films for over two years, is making her comeback with ‘Velleppam’. She will be seen playing the role of Akshay Radhakrishnan’s sister in the film. Shine Tom Chacko will be seen in another crucial role. He plays a communist leader’s part in the film. The cast also includes ‘Thaneer Mathan Dhinangal’ fame Vaishak Rajan, Sreejith Ravi, Sajid Yahiya, ‘June’ fame Fahim Safar, debutant Sanif and many others.

Newcomer Jeevan Lal has scripted ‘Velleppam’, which is said to be a fun rom-com with fantasy elements. On the technical side, the film has Shihab Ongallur as the DOP and Shameer Muhammed as the editor. Veteran music director SP Venkitesh is making his comeback with this film. It is being produced by Jins Thomas and Dhwarak Udhayshankar under the banner of Baroque Films.

Thala Ajith donates Rs 1.25 crores for COVID-19 relief

Tamil superstar Ajith has offered a financial assistance of Rs 1.25 crores for Corona relief. He has donates Rs 50 lakhs each to the Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations (PM-CARES) fund and Tamil Nadu Chief Minsiter’s relief fund. Apart from that, he has also contributed Rs 25 lakhs to the welfare of the Film Employees Federation of South India (FEFSI) workers. It is indeed a gracious gesture from Ajith, which will definitely inspire many more to come forward and help those in need.

As the nation is fighting hard to stop the Corona virus outbreak, film stars across the country have been doing their bit by contributing towards the government relief funds. To create awareness among the public regarding the importance of using face masks and how to make one at home, the government has collaborated with film star Indrans.

In a 4.30 minute long video shared in the Health Minister’s official Facebook page, Indrans is seen stitching a mask and clearly explaining how to make one with easily available materials. The State-award winning actor is getting praise from all corners for his gracious gesture.

Legendary music director MK Arjunan passed away in Kochi on Monday. Several celebrities from the Malayalam film industry paid tributes through their social media handles. AR Rahman, who had worked with Arjunan Master as a keyboardist during his childhood days, paid a moving tribute. Sharing a photo from one of their recording sessions, Rahman wrote about the love and encouragement showered upon him by the veteran.

AR Rahman’s tweet reads,

During a career spanning around 50 years in the film industry, Arjunan Master has composed music for more than 500 songs in over 218 Malayalam films. Though he has been active in the industry for around five decades, he was honored with the Kerala State award for the time in 2017 for his work in ‘Bhayanakam’. The last released film for which he composed music was ‘Vellaram Kunnile Vellimeenukal’.

As the nation is battling hard against the Corona virus outbreak, top film stars from across the nation have come together to spread awareness. Amitabh Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor, Mohanlal, Mammootty, Rajinikanth, Priyanka Chopra, Alia Bhatt, Sonalee Kulkarni, Prosenjit Chatterjee, Shiva Rajkumar, Chiranjeevi and Diljit Dosanjh feature in this four-minute long video.

Interestingly, the short film which has been titled as ‘Family’ is shot within the respective homes of each actor. We head that Dulquer Salmaan shot the portions featuring his dad, Mammootty. The short film on a whole is virtually directed by Prasoon Pandey.

Through the video, the makers have tried to address how important it is to stay at home during these tough times. Malayalam actor Sasi Kallinga passes away!

Malayalam film actor Sasi Kallinga passed away in the wee hours of Tuesday. The 59-year-old breathed his last at a private hospital in Kozhikode. He was suffering from liver related ailments for quite some time.

Sasi Kallinga’s real name is V Chandrakumar. It was director Ranjith who gave him his screen name. He was active in Malayalam theatre area for 25 years having acted in over 500 plays. He made his debut in cinema in the year 1998 with the film ‘Thakarachenda’. His first notable role came in the Ranjith directorial ‘Paleri Manikyam: Oru Pathirakolapathakathinte Katha’. He played the role of a cop named DySP Mohandas Manalath in the film.

Sasi Kallinga acted in over 250 films in his career. He was famous for his comedy roles. Some of his most popular performances came in films like ‘Amen’, ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’, ‘Pranchiyettan And The Saint’ etc. He last acted in the VM Vinu directorial ‘Kuttimama’.
