Jayasurya’s Kathanar to be made on a budget of 75 crore; Gokulam Films take up production

We were among the first to report about Jayasurya starring in a film based on the life of Kadamattath Kathanar. Rojin Thomas, one of the directors of ‘Philips and the Monkey Pen’, is helming the film. R Ramanand has scripted it after years of research works. Vijay Babu’s Friday Film House was supposed to produce the project but Gokulam Films have now taken it up.

Apparently, the film demands a huge budget and Friday Film House is currently not in a position to invest so much as they have some other ambitious projects in the making. Clearing the airs, Vijay Babu has written on his Facebook page,

Hi friends,
Since Friday film house is extremely busy with some of the prior commitments including its biggest franchise AADU-3 , the Sathyan biopic and few more other projects , this big budget movie announced earlier shall be taken up by “Gokulam films “ .
All the best to Jayasurya and Gokulam films.
God bless.

‘Kathanar’ is now shaping up as the biggest project in Jayasurya’s career. It will be made on a huge canvas with a whopping budget of Rs 75 crore. The star thanked Gokulam Films for taking up the production. His Facebook post reads,

Kathanar, will be what I believe a stunning 3D experience and the biggest movies of my career. Having one of the biggest production houses in our industry bank rolling it is truly exciting and humbling.
Thank you Gokulam Gopalan, for believing in us and taking up this project.

Kadamattath Kathanar is an 8th century priest from Kerala who is believed to have possessed supernatural powers. The project titled as ‘Kathanar The Wild Sorcerer’ is planned to be made in 3D format in two parts. According to the makers, it will be the first Indian film to use the technique of virtual reality production. Popular Hollywood films like ‘Lion King’ and ‘Jungle Book’ have previously used this technique.

The technical crew of ‘Kathanar’ comprises of DOP Neil D Cunha, music director Rahul Subramanian and CGI supervisor Vishnu Raj. Poetic VFX and Animations will be handling the CGI department. The makers are currently working on the pre-production and it is expected to take up to an year’s time.

Master grand audio launch to be held next Sunday!

The makers of upcoming Tamil biggie ‘Master’ have revealed their audio launch plans. The event will be held on March 15, Sunday in Chennai. Audio launch events of Vijay’s films are usually a grand affair. Unlike the past, where such events are held at large auditoriums and open grounds, this time, it will be held in a banquet hall of a five star hotel in the city.

Apparently, this is to ensure that no commotion and unwanted incidents occur like last time during the audio launch event of ‘Bigil’. Fans entry will be restricted this time but live telecast has been planned to ensure that they are not left out of the fun. The program will be streamed live in Sun TV at 6.30 PM.

Considering the controversy surrounding Vijay’s alleged tax evasion issues and the following protests by BJP at ‘Master’ sets, the actor’s speech this time is eagerly awaited by many. The already hit song ‘Oru Kutti Kathai’ is also expected to be sung by the star at the event. Another highlight is the Vijay-Vijay Sethupathi factor. It will be interesting to see what they both have to share about each other.

‘Master’ is written and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. It also stars Malavika Mohanan, Andrea Jeremiah, Gouri G Kishan, Arjun Das, Brigida, Ramya Subramanian and Shanthanu in major roles. The movie has music by Anirudh and it is most likely to hit screens on April 9, 2020.
