Uppum Mulakum combo reunite for Laika; Here’s the first look poster!

‘Uppum Mulakum’ is one of the most loved sitcoms in Malayalam television program circle. The realistic family setting and natural performances of the actors makes it relatable to an average audience, and that has been the reason behind the show’s biggest success. Biju Sopanam and Nisha Sarang, the two lead actors of the show are now coming together for a feature film.

Titled as ‘Laika’, the film is directed by debutant Ashad Sivaraman. Its first look poster featuring Biju Sopanam, Nisha Sarang and a dog has just been released online. Mammootty shared the poster through their social media handle. It is worth a mention that Laika is the name of the dog that became the first animal to orbit the Earth.

Interestingly, the film also has a space connect. It revolves around the story of Raju, a mechanic in the space research organization. Biju Sopanam plays the role of Raju and Nisha Sarang will be seen as his wife, Vimala. Nasser, Baiju Santhosh, Sudheesh, Vijileesh, Noby, Praveena, Aristo Suresh, Sibi Thomas, Sethulekshmi, Roshni, Nandana Varma and many others are part of the cast.

‘Laika’ is scripted by P Muralidharan and Shyam Krishna. The film’s director Ashad Sivaraman is a multiple State-award winner. Last year, his telefilm ‘Dhehantharam’ had won a total of seven awards including the one for best film and best director.

The technical crew of ‘Laika’ includes P Sukumar, editor Vipin Mannoor, composers Satheesh Ramachandran and Gemini Unnikrishnan. Shoot for the film has already been wrapped up.

Though just two films old, Lokesh Kanagaraj is already one of the most wanted filmmakers in Kollywood. After making an impressive debut with ‘Maanagaram’, he delivered a huge blockbuster last year with ‘Kaithi’. He is now working on ‘Master’, the upcoming biggie starring Vijay and Vijay Sethupathi in the leads. A section of media has now reported that the talented young filmmaker’s next is with none other than Rajinikanth.

Apparently, Lokesh had pitched a storyline to the superstar which impressed him big time. It is said that the film will be officially announced on April 14, on the special occasion of Tamil New Year. There is also a big buzz that Kamal Haasan will be producing the film.

Recently, at an awards function, Lokesh received an award from Kamal Haasan, whom he considers his idol. While speaking at the event, the veteran was all praise of Lokesh. He said that he feels proud about Lokesh for having made a film like ‘Kaithi’. He also hinted that there is something else cooking. A Rajini-Lokesh film backed by Kamal Haasan is nothing short of a dream project. Let’s hope it materializes soon.

New teaser of Mammootty’s One to be released tomorrow

Two weeks after the release of the first teaser, the makers of Mammootty starrer ‘One’ have decided to share a new one. The second teaser will be out online tomorrow (March 7). It must be remembered that the first teaser was a tremendous success that went on to fetch over 8 lakh views in YouTube alone. It gave a sneak peek to the film, which has Mammootty playing the role of Kerala’s Chief Minsiter.

‘Chirakodinja Kinvaukal fame Santhosh Viswanath is directing the film and it is scripted by award winning writers Bobby and Sanjay. Mammootty is doing a political film in Malayalam after several years and everyone is keenly awaiting to see how it has turned out. The film is inspired from some true incidents but Mammootty’s lead character will not have resemblance to any particular real-life political leader.

The film has a huge ensemble comprising of actors like Siddique, Balachandra Menon, Salim Kumar, Madhu, Ranjith, Murali Gopy, Nimisha Sajayan, Joju George, Gayathri Arun, Sudev Nair, Jayan Cherthala, Suresh Krishna, Shanker Ramakrishnan, Alencier Ley Lopez, Mammukoya and Mathew Thomas.

‘One’ backed by Ichais Productions is slated to hit screens by the first week of April. Anto Joseph Film Company will be releasing it in Kerala.

As reported by us earlier, Dulquer Salmaan has signed a new film with director Rosshan Andrrews. The actor will be seen playing a police officer’s role in the film. Though he had appeared as a police officer briefly in ‘Vikramadithyan’, this is expected to be be his first full fledged cop role. The star’s own production house Wayfarer Films will be backing this film. As per latest reports, shoot has been planned to begin by May, 2020. The makers have zeroed in Trivandrum as the main location.

This yet-to-be titled film is scripted by Bobby-Sanjay. Though this is their first outing with Dulquer Salmaan, the writer duo has frequently collaborated with director Rosshan Andrrews. The same combo had previously done a cop film ‘Mumbai Police’, that wasn’t anything like seen before in Malayalam cinema. So expectations will certainly be high when they team up with a big star like Dulquer Salmaan.

Dulquer is currently basking in the back to back success of ‘Varane Avashyamund’ and ‘Kannum Kannum Kollaiyadithaal’. He will start shooting for his new Tamil film with dance choreographer-turned-filmmaker from the second week of March. Kajal Aggarwal has been signed as the female lead in it. After its completion, he will be joining the sets of Rosshan’s film.

Last June, Akshay Kumar had announced a new film of his titled ‘Bachchan Pandey’ with Farhad Samji as the director and Sajid Nadiadwala as the producer. Its first look featuring a bare-chested Akshay with a nunuchaku had grabbed attention. It was then supposed to be the remake of hit Tamil film ‘Veeram’ but latest reports suggest that the makers have dropped that idea. They are instead planning to remake ‘Jigarthanda’, also a hit film.

Bollywood medias report that producer Sajid Nadiadwala and director Farhad have decided to change the script. The makers had been planning to remake ‘Jigarthanda’ since last year when Sajid Nadiadwala bought the rights. Initially, they had tried to rope in Rajkummar Rao, Sanjay Dutt and Kriti Sanon but things didn’t fall in place. Now, they are reviving the film as ‘Bachchan Pandey’, making some changes to suit the sensibilities of the Hindi audience.

‘Jigarthanda’ directed by Karthik Subbaraj is an unusual gangster comedy starring Siddharth, Bobby Simha and Lakshmi in the leads. The film was a big success and enjoys a cult status today. Bobby had also won a National award for his performance in the film. Last year, it was successfully remade in Telugu as ‘Gaddalakonda Ganesh’ with Varun Tej, Atharvaa, Pooja Hegde, and Mirnalini Ravi as the principal actors.

In the Hindi version, the makers are planning a role reversal with Kriti, Akshay playing the lead leads. While Akshay Kumar will be seen playing Bobby Simha’s gangster character, Kriti will be reprising the filmmaker’s role done by Siddharth. Shoot is likely to begin in a couple of months time.

Prithviraj had recently flown out of the country for the final set of preparations of his much-talked about ambitious film, ‘Aadujeevitham’. The Blessy directorial is based on the award winning novel of the same name by Benyamin. The film originally went on floors two years back in March 2018. Due to Prithviraj’s other commitments and the need for him to appear in various looks, shoot happened over multiple schedules. The final leg of shoot is now set to begin on March 16 in Algeria. A two-month long schedule is planned there.

Latest news is that Vineeth Sreenivasan and Aparna Balamurali are also acting in the film. They both will be seen in brief extended cameo roles. It is expected that the two shoot for their portions after the completion of the Algerian schedule. Amala Paul is also part of the cast. She plays a character named Sainu and she has already shot for some scenes with Prithviraj.

‘Aadujeevitham’ is the life story of an abused migrant worker, Najeeb Mohammed, who gets stranded in the middle of deserts in Saudi Arabi. The lone man undergoes different experiences from seclusion, emotional conflicts and survival struggles. For the last three months, Prithviraj has been on a break to reduce weight for his upcoming film ‘Aadujeevitham’. He is on a strict diet to lose close to 30 kilos and achieve a malnourished look.

The first look poster of Parvathy’s new film ‘Varthamanam’ has just been released online. Mammootty, Nivin Pauly and Tovino Thomas have shared the poster through their respective social media handles. The film is directed by actor-turned-filmmaker Sidharatha Siva. National award winner Aryadan Shoukath has scripted it based on the current socio-political issues in the country.

‘Varthamanam’ has Parvathy playing a character named Faiza Sufi. She is a research student at the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in Delhi. For the last few years, several incidents have occured at the JNU that caught nationwide attention. The film is actually inspired from these events.

Roshan Mathew, who recently won widespread appreciation with his performance ‘Moothon’, plays Parvathy’s romantic interest in ‘Varthamanam’. Siddique will be seen as a college professor named Podhuval. Sudheesh, Nirmal Palazhi, Dain Davis and many other non-Malayali actors are part of the cast.

Veteran Alagappan is cranking the camera and Vinesh Banglan is handling the art department. Aryadan Shoukath is producing the film along with Benazeer of Benzy Productions. It was shot extensively in Delhi, Uttarakhand and some other North Indian states.

Prathap Pothan becomes the first Malayali actor to join Barroz

Mohanlal’s directorial debut ‘Barroz’ is set to go on floors by the end of June. The film has been under the pre-production stage for over a year and the makers are currently busy finalizing the cast. While Mohanlal plays the titular role, the supporting cast mostly comprises of foreign actors from US, Spain, Portugal and Ghana. A 13-year-old child artsite named Shayla McCaffrey will be seen as the female lead. Spanish actor Rafael Amargo and award-winning actress Paz Vega will be playing other prominent roles.

Veteran actor Prathap Pothen is the latest to join the team. Apart from Mohanlal, he is the only other Malayali actor in the film as of yet. Interestingly, Pothen has been roped in to play the role of a voodoo doll in this ambitious fantasy flick. Last day, he shared his excitement about being part of this huge film by posting a photo taken with Mohanlal in his social media handle. Along with that, he also wrote,

‘Barroz’ is scripted by Jijo Punnoose, the visionary filmmaker who made India’s first 3D film ‘My Dear Kuttichathan’. It is the story of Barroz, a mythical figure who was the gaurdian of Vasco da Gama’s valuable treasures for 400 years. In Mohanlal’s own words, Barroz is set against the backdrop of the maritime history of Portugal, Spain, India and Africa. It is about the shared heritage that we inherited from our ancestors. The story is basically centred around his character, Barroz, who protects the treasure of Vasco Da Gama until his true heir comes back to guard it.

Antony Perumbavoor is producing ‘Barroz’ under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas. KU Mohanan is the cinematographer and 13-year-old child prodigy Lydian Nadhaswaram will be composing music for the film. More details are awaited.

Shane Nigam set to make a comeback with Qalb

After a three-month long unofficial ban from the Kerala Film Producers council, Shane Nigam is now set to make his comeback. His new film ‘Qalb’ is getting ready. Sajid Yahiya is directing the film, which is said to be an emotional drama set in a coastal town. Sajid had previously directed ‘Inspector Dawood Ibrahim’ aka ‘IDI’ and ‘Mohanlal’.

Last day, Shane Nigam had released a new poster of the film in his social media handle. Along with that, he also informed that a surprise video will be out tomorrow (March 6). ‘Qalb’ has its story penned by director Sajid himself. He has collaborated with Suhail Koya for the screenplay.

Abinandhan Ramanujam of ‘Amen’ is the DOP. From the posters in which Shane is seen holding a guitar, ‘Qalb’ looks like a musical. The makers have also got multiple composers on board for the film. Prakash Alex, Vimal Nayar, Reneesh Basheer and Nihal Sadiq will be composing the songs. Prakash Alex has been assigned to handle the background score.

Arjun Amaravati Creations will be presenting ‘Qalb’ and it is backed by Cinema Pranthan Productions.

‘Take Off’ director Mahesh Narayanan’s new film, ‘Malik’ is eyeing release next month. Fahadh Faasil plays the lead role in the film. The second look poster featuring him in an aged look got released last day. The actor looks majestic as he is seen sitting royally on a chair. Fahadh plays a character named Sulaiman Malik in the film. Interestingly, the character is inspired from a real-life person. Fahadh had lost over 20 kilos to play the character convincingly by sporting various looks. The film’s storyline traverses various timelines and his character will be seen from the age of 25-75.

‘Malik’ scripted by director Mahesh himself is actually based on a true incident that occurred few years back in Kerala. The story revolves around a sensitive coastal area where there was a resistance against this constant threat of displacement of a minority community. Fahadh Faasil’s character Sulaiman Malik was the person who was responsible for making his people rise up.

Though ‘Malik’ is based on a true incident, director Mahesh is not intending to recreate the exact events but instead it is his interpretation of what actually occurred. The focus will be on the evolution of the coastal area from the 60s to present age.

The cast includes Nimisha Sajayan, Dileesh Pothan, Vinay Forrt, Indrans, Sudhi Koppa, Chandhunath, yesteryear actress Jalaja, Maala Parvathy and many others. DOP Sanu John Varughese, composer Sushin Shyam, production designer Santhosh Raman and sound designers Vishnu Govind and Sree Sankar form the core technical team. Besides directing and scripting, Mahesh Narayanan is also editing the film.

Anto Joseph Film Company is producing the film, which is being made on a budget of close to Rs 30 crores. Aan Mega Media will be releasing ‘Malik’ in Kerala.
