Mari Selvaraj, who made an highly impressive debut with ‘Pariyerum Perumal’, is directing this film. Recently, a few location stills of ‘Karnan’ were shared by the makers. Rajisha has undergone an impressive transformation for the film as she looks absolutely convincing as a village belle with a deglam look. It seems like the actress has shed a few kilos to achieve a normal rural girl’s look.

Marakkar trailer to be released by Mohanlal, Akshay Kumar, Suriya and Yash

The highly anticipated trailer of ‘Marakkar’, the biggest Malayalam film of the year, is set to be out soon. The makers have announced that the trailer will be out in multiple languages on March 6 at 5 PM. Since the film is also set to be dubbed and releasing in various languages, top stars from each industry have assigned to share the trailer. While Mohanlal will be releasing the original Malayalam trailer, its Hindi, Tamil and Kannada versions will be shared by Akshay Kumar, Suriya and Yash through their respective social media handles.

‘Marakkar’ directed by Priyadarshan is an action-epic based on the life of Kunjali Marakkar IV. According to him, it will be the most technically perfect film to have ever been made in Indian cinema. It has star-studded cast and some big names in the technical crew. Mohanlal will be seen playing the lead role while his son Pranav essays the younger version of the same character.

Mohanlal’s own production house Aashirvad Cinemas, Confident Group and Moonshot Entertainment are jointly producing this mega budget film. It is scheduled for a grand worldwide release on March 26. The film has been planned to be released in several languages in around 5000 centres across the globe.

After Kannum Kannum Kollaiyadithaal success, Dulquer set to start works on his next Tamil film

Dulquer Salmaan is currenty basking in the glory of two back to back hits — ‘Varane Avashyamund’ and ‘Kannum Kannum Kollaiyadithaal’ (KKK). The latter, which got released on February 28, has turned out to be an unexpected success at the box office. After the first weekend, collections have doubled and it is now well course to become a superhit. Fresh from its success, Dulquer is now set to start shooting for his new Tamil film.

Popular dance choreographer Brinda will be making her directorial debut with this film which is yet to be titled. Reliance Entertainment is producing the film. Reportedly, the makers have got Kajal Aggarwal to play the female lead. It is the first time Dulquer and Kajal are acting together; so their on-screen chemistry will be something exciting to watch out for.

We hear that shoot will begin by the second week of March. Details regarding the film’s genre or its other team members are not yet known. A formal announcement is expected to be made by the makers very soon.

Aaha teaser: Indrajith’s film is about Kerala’s own sport vadamvali

We had earlier reported about Indrajith Sukumaran starring in new film titled ‘Aaha’. It is a sports flick based on Kerala’s own sport, ‘tug of war’ aka ‘vadamvali’. Debutant Bibin Paul Samuel is editing and directing the film. Its teaser has been released online through Mohanlal’s social media handle and it looks highly promising. Tobit Chirayath has scripted the film, which is inspired from a famous team ‘Aaha Neeloor’ from Pala. In the 2008 season, they had won a staggering 72 matches out of the 73 they played.

Along with Indrajith, the film also stars Manoj K Jayan, Amit Chakalakkal and Ashwin K Kumar in major roles. Santhy Balachandran of ‘Tharangam’ and ‘Jallikattu’ fame plays the female lead. According to the makers, shoot was a very challenging experience as it was filmed in over 84 locations with 148 technicians and around 6000 artists.

‘Aaha’ is being produced by Prem Abraham of Zsa Zsa Productions. The film has a relatively new set of names behind the camera. DOP Rahul Balachandran, music directors Sayanora Philip and Shiyad Kabeer (background score) comprise the core technical crew. The makers are planning an April release.

Ram Charan acquires the remake rights of superhit Malayalam film Driving Licence

Telugu superstar Ram Charan has reportedly bagged the remake rights of last year’s superhit Malayalam film ‘Driving Licence’. The original directed by Jean Paul Lal aka Lal Jr had Prithviraj and Suraj Venjaramoodu in the lead roles. The makers of the Telugu version are yet to finalize the cast and the director. Ram Charan had also bought the rights of another Malayalam film, ‘Lucifer’. His father megastar Chiranjeevi will be starring in it.

‘Driving Licence’ had hit screens last December 20. The film was scripted by Sachy has an interesting storyline with an universal appeal. It is primarily centred around two individuals – a film star and his ardent fan, who is a motor vehicle inspector. It is the clash of egos and power imbalance that form the film’s crux.

Critic reviews and general audience response were highly positive with special mention for the performance of its two lead actors. Many rated it as a well-made commercial entertainer. It will be interesting to see how Ram Charan and his team adapt the film in a bigger industry like Telugu.

Major portions of Mammootty’s Bilal to be shot in Kolkata

‘Bilal’, the second part of Mammootty’s cult gangster film ‘Big B’, is gearing up to go on floors. We hear that shoot is set to begin by the second week of this month. The first schedule will last for one month and it will be mainly in and around Kochi. Later, the team will be shifting to Kolkata where some crucial portions will be shot. It is said that Mammootty might also act in Sathyan Anthikad’s film during the schedule break of ‘Bilal’. A confirmation regarding this is still awaited.

‘Bilal’ is scripted by Unni R and will be directed Amal Neerad. Bala, Mamta Mohandas and Manoj K Jayan, who all played crucial roles in the first part, have been retained in the sequel as well. It remains to be seen how far their characters have evolved in ‘Bilal’.

‘Big B’ that got released in 2007 was a stylishly shot gangster flick. During its time of release, the film could not fare well at the box office. But over the years, it went on to attain a cult status among the Malayali audience. Naturally, expectations on ‘Bilal’ are sky-high. A formal official announcement with full details regarding the cast and crew will be out soon.

Entire shoot for ‘Master’ has finally been wrapped up. The team worked together for 129 days in various schedules in Delhi, Rajahmundry, Chennai and Neyveli. Starring Vijay and Vijay Sethupathi in the leads, it is arguably the most awaited Tamil film of the year. ‘Master’ is written and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj of ‘Kaithi’ fame. After wrapping up shoot last day, Lokesh shared a photo taken with the crew in his social media handle and wrote,

With the shoot done, the makers have moved straight to the post-production to ensure a smooth release in April. Vijay plays a college professor in the film and Vijay Sethupathi essays the role of the antagonist. Andrea Jeremiah, Arjun Das, Shanthanu Bhagyaraj, Malavika Mohanan, Gouri Kishan, Ramya Subramaniam, Sriman, Ramesh Thilak and many others are part of the cast.

Xavier Britto is producing the film under the banner of XB Pictures.

Priyadarshan excited about Forensic success!

Tovino’s recently released thriller film ‘Forensic’ is turning out to be huge success at the box office. As per the makers, the film has grossed Rs 7.43 crore from its first three days of theatrical run. Social media talks and general response in theatres have all been highly encouraging. Veteran filmmaker Priyadarshan has congratulated the team for the success. In his Facebook page, he has written,

Super glad to hear great reviews about the thriller movie ‘Forensic’. Rightly praised for the kind of movie-brilliance it is. Kudos to the whole crew!

‘Forensic’ is written and directed by Akhil Paul and Anas Khan. It is an investigative-thriller centred around a series of abduction and killing of girl children. Mamta Mohandas plays the character of an IPS officer who heads the investigation. Tovino Thomas essays the lead role of a medico legal advisor in the film. The makers have done a lot of research works regarding the forensic techniques and it has successfully come out in the film. Critics have praised the engaging screenplay and the unexpected twists and turns in it.

‘Forensic’ is produced by Navis Xaviour and Siju Mathew under the banner of Juvis Productions and Raju Malliath’s Ragam Movies. Apart from releasing in a good number of centres in Kerala and rest of India, the film has also released in overseas locations like Canada and California. It is also scheduled to release in the Middle East region this coming Thursday (March 5). Thanks to the positive word of mouth, a good opening is definitely on the cards.

Dulquer Salmaan was on a low for some time with a forgettable 2019. While his Malayalam film ‘Oru Yamandan Premakadha’ settled for an average success, ‘The Zoya Factor’, his second Hindi film, tanked at the box office. However, the actor is now back on track after delivering back to back hits with ‘Varane Avashyamund’ and ‘Kannum Kannum Kollaiyadithaal’.

On that note, 2020 has started off with a bang for Dulquer. His first release was ‘Varane Avashyamund’ in Malayalam. The film which had him starring alongside the likes of Shobana, Suresh Gopi and Kalyani Priyadarshan has emerged as a huge hit raking in over Rs 25 crore at the box office. Its success was even more special for Dulquer as it was his maiden film as a producer.

As he was still basking in the success of ‘Varane Avashyamund, came his Tamil film ‘KKK’ that is turning out to be a sleeper hit surprising everyone. The film directed by debutant Desingh Periyasamy was in the making for over two years. Multiple delays in release and the absence of big names in team meant that the film had very less hype prior to its release.

However, on hitting screens last Friday, ‘KKK’ opened to positive reviews from all corners. It is far from a regular rom-com that was promised from the promos. By the third day, box office collections got tripled and the film is now well on course to become a superhit. After a slow start, it is now gradually picking up at the Kerala box office as well.

Going ahead, Dulquer Salmaan has some promising projects lined up for 2020. His next release will be the highly anticipated ‘Kurup’. He has also signed for a cop film with Rosshan Andrrews and a political flick with Joy Mathew. The actor has also committed for a straight Telugu film, which is expected to be announced shortly.
