Official: Mahanati director Nag Ashwin’s next is with Prabhas!

A surprise announcement, probably the biggest of the year, has just been made. ‘Mahanati’ director Nag Ashwin is teaming up with Prabhas for a pan-Indian film. Vyjayanthi Films is backing this project. The legendary production is celebrating their 50th anniversary and this Prabhas film is hence a very prestigious one.

Though Nag Ashiwn is just two-films old, he has already proved his potential as an extremely talented filmmaker. He made his debut in 2015 with the superhit Nani starrer ‘Yevade Subramanyam’. The director’s last film ‘Mahanati’, a multilingual, was a critically and commercially successful work. It went on to win three awards at the National level, including the one for Best Feature Film in Telugu.

So when an award-winning filmmaker like Nag Ashwin joins hands with Prabhas, expectations will be sky-high. Post-Baahubali, Prabhas has established himself as a pan-Indian superstar with a nationwide fan following. Though his last film ‘Saaho’ was panned heavily by the critics, it managed to do pretty good business solely due to his star power.

Prabhas will be eager to make a strong comeback with Nag Ashwin’s film. More details regarding the project are expected to be officially announced in the coming days.

Suriya 39: Suriya’s next with Hari to start rolling in April

It has been a while since reports about Suriya teaming up with director Hari started emerging online. Tentatively titled as ‘Suriya 39’, the film is scheduled to start rolling in April. It is learnt that Hari is currently finalizing the cast and crew. Rashmika Mandanna is in talks and she is most likely to play the female lead.

Suriya and Hari have worked together multiple times in the past, which includes the three-part ‘Singam’ series. However, it is learnt that the two are planning to reunite this time for a film out of the ‘Singam’ franchise. It will be a complete family entertainer with the regular dose of action and other commercial elements. KE Gnanavel Raja of Studio Green will be producing the film.

Apart from Hari’s film, Suriya has also committed for films with Vetrimaaran and Siva. The star’s much-awaited ‘Soorarai Pottru’ is also gearing up for release in April.

Confirmed: Sidharth Malhotra to star in Thadam Hindi remake!

Arun Vijay’s crime thriller film ‘Thadam’ was a big surprise hit last year. The film directed by Magizh Thirumeni had the star in a dual role. Releasing amidst very less hype, it went on to become a superhit at the box office purely on the basis of word of mouth. Following its success, a Telugu remake was announced. Titled as ‘Red’, the film stars Ram Pothineni in the lead. The Kishore Tirumala directorial is scheduled to release in April.

Meanwhile, a Hindi version of ‘Thadam’ is also getting ready. Sidharth Malhotra has been signed for the film, which will be directed by debutant Vardhan Ketkar. Murad Khetani and Bhushan Kumar are jointly producing the film. It is the duo’s second South Indian remake venture after Shahid Kapoor’s ‘Kabir Singh’, which was adapted from the Telugu film ‘Arjun Reddy’.

The Hindi remake of ‘Thadam’, which is yet to be titled, will start rolling in May. The makers are currently working on tweaking the script to make it suitable for the sensibilities of the North Indian audience. Official announcement with title will be made soon after finalizing the remaining cast and crew.

As ‘Varane Avashyamund’ continues to excel in theatres, the makers have released a new song online. Titled ‘Adyamorilam’, it is a beautiful track about mother-daughter relationship. The song comes at a crucial point when the mom-daughter duo in the film have a fall out. Shobana plays Kalyani Priyadarshan’s mother in the film. Anne Amie has sung the track. Last day, it was her birthday and the makers released the song as a special gift for her. Santhosh Varma has penned the lyrics and it is set to tunes by Alphons Joseph.

‘Varane Avashyamund’ directed by Anoop Sathyan is enjoying a successful run at the box office. The film recently crossed the Rs 25 crore mark from its worldwide collections. It is Dulquer Salmaan’s maiden production venture and the star is quite thrilled with the success. The film had a lot of expectations prior to release itself. Its dream star cast comprising of Suresh Gopi, Shobana, Kalyani Priyadarshan and Dulquer Salmaan was the prime reason for the hype. The film eventually managed to please majority of the theatre-growing crowd, which includes youngsters as well as the families.

‘Bilal’, the second part of Mammootty’s cult gangster film ‘Big B’, is gearing up to go on floors in March. Amal Neerad, who made his directorial debut with ‘Big B’, is helming the sequel as well. Bala, Mamta Mohandas and Manoj K Jayan, who all played crucial roles in the first part, have been retained in ‘Bilal’.

Bala has already started working out for the film. It is learnt that he will be sporting a ripped physique. In ‘Big B’, his character Murugan John Kurishingal was a fight master in Tamil film industry. Bala’s swift and stylish stunts were one of the film’s highlights. His character also had a parallel love track with Mamta Mohandas. The romantic song ‘Muthu Mazha’ featuring the two was a big hit at those times. It remains to be seen how far their characters have evolved in ‘Bilal’.

‘Big B’ that got released in 2007 was a stylishly shot gangster flick. During its time of release, ‘Big B’ could not fare well at the box office. But over the years, it went on to attain a cult status. Naturally, expectations on ‘Bilal’ are sky-high.

Superstar Rajinikanth’s ongoing film with director Siva has been titled as ‘Annaathe’. Scripted by the director himself, this film is touted to be a rural-based mass entertainer. We learn that it is primarily a story about an endearing brother-sister relationship. The title ‘Annatthe’, which is a rural slang for elder brother, also indicates the same. Reports suggest that, Rajinikanth and Keerthy Suresh will be seen as siblings in the film. Veterans Meena, Khushbu and Nayanthara are also part of the cast. While it is still not known who is paired with Rajinikanth, we hear that all four heroines will have equally important characters to play.

‘Thankachi’ sentiment is a subject that has always worked with the Tamil masses. Rajinikanth himself has played the typical loving brother roles multiple times in the past. Moreover, this is after a long gap that he is doing a rural entertainer with family emotions at the core. Director Siva is planning ‘Annatthe’ very much on the lines of his last film ‘Viswasam’, which was a huge blockbuster. All these factors increase the probability of ‘Annatthe’ becoming a big success.

Suriya’s Soorarai Pottru to be remade in Hindi

Suriya starrer ‘Soorarai Pottru’ is gearing up to hit screens in April. The film is co-written and directed by Sudha Kongara of ‘Irudhi Suttru’ fame. It is loosely based on the life of GR Gopinath, the founder of Air Deccan, who is also a retired captain of the Indian army. In the film, Suriya plays the lead character named Nedumaaran Rajangam Maara, a common man hailing from a small town who dreams of owning an aircraft business.

Since the film has an universally appealing storyline, the film will be dubbed and released in Telugu and Kannada languages. Apart from that, a Hindi remake is also on cards. Guneet Monga, one of the producers of ‘Soorarai Pottru’, revealed this recently. However, the makers are yet to decide whether to retain the same cast and crew for the Hindi version.

It must be noted that director Sudha Kongara’s previous film ‘Irudhi Suttru’ was also released in Hindi as ‘Saala Khadoos’.

Dulquer Salmaan pens a note of gratitude mentioning all the team members of Kurup!

Dulquer Salmaan’s ambitious film ‘Kurup’ got wrapped up recently. Directed by Srinath Rajendran of ‘Second Show’ fame, this film is based on the life of Kerala’s most wanted criminal, Sukumara Kurup. The team shot the film in multiple schedules in Kerala, various parts of North India, Mangalore and in Dubai. After wrapping up shoot, Dulquer, who is also producing the film along with M Star Entertainment, has written a long note mentioning all the main team members and praising them for their contributions. His long post reads,

It’s almost bitter sweet as we wrapped our most ambitious #Kurup last night. It’s been years in the making and has taken months of filming across many states in India and the UAE. Filled with gratitude and emotion this is a huge accomplishment for us. I don’t know where to start. But gonna try.

‘Kaaval’ scripted by dNithin Renji Panicker is touted to be an action-packed family drama. The story set in the high ranges of Idukki spans across different timelines. Renji Panicker is playing a crucial role along with Suresh Gopi. Lal was originally supposed to play the role but he opted out due to his commitments in other languages. Both Suresh Gopi and Renji Panciker will be appearing in two getups in the film – an older and younger look.

‘Kaaval’ has Zaya David of Irupathiyonnaam Noottaandu’ as the female lead. Others in the supporting cast include Alencier Ley Lopez, IM Vijayan, Sujith Shankar, Kichu Tellus, Binu Pappu, Santhosh Keezhattoor, Muthumani and Pathamaraj Ratheesh. National award winner Nikhil S Praveen is wielding the camera. Ranjin Raj of ‘Joseph’ fame is the music director. Joby George of Goodwill Entertainments is producing the film.
