Thalam Poyi: New song from Ayyappanum Koshiyum released

‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ continues to run with good occupancy in most theatres. The film has managed to satisfy all sections of the audience. It is one of those well-made mass entertainers that doesn’t question the sensibilities of the audience. Sachy has directed the film that has Biju Menon and Prithviraj in the lead roles.

‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ is basically the story of the two titular characters – Ayyappan Nair, a soon-to-retire policeman and Koshy Kurian, a retired havildar. It primarily revolves around the conflict between them. Though the plot might sound very thin, it is an intricately woven tale of revenge with a lot of important socio-political issues addressed.

At a crucial juncture in the film comes the song ‘Thalam Poyi’. The video song has been released online by the makers. Jakes Bejoy has composed the song and it has lyrics by Rafeeq Ahammed. Sangeethaa, Jakes and ‘Kalakkatha’ fame Nanjamma have lent their voices. Like Prithviraj had earlier said, ‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ has one of the most unusual soundtracks for a mainstream Malayalam film.

I would love to do a mass-action film: Dileesh Pothan

Dileesh Pothan is one of the most revered filmmakers of this generation. Though he is just two films old, he enjoys a great fan following among the new age cinephiles. The fact that both his films went on to win awards at the National level also means that his works are eagerly awaited by many. Though both his films – ‘Maheshinte Prathikaram’ and ‘Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum’ dealt with totally different themes, one thing that’s common is the realistic treatment. In a way, it can be said that it was Dileesh Pothan who triggered the so-called ‘realistic wave’.

However, the director doesn’t believe in confining himself to one particular genre or style of filmmaking. In a recent interview, when asked about what genre he would love to do next, he said that he doesn’t work after zeroing in on any particular genre. According to him, he is just another storyteller who loves to tell stories regardless of its genre. He even added that he would love to do a mass-action flick.

It wouldn’t be something I advise anyone to do: Prithviraj on his physical transformation for Aadujeevitham

Prithviraj is currently taking a big step that no mainstream actor in Malayalam has done before. For the last three months, he has been on a break from all his shoot related commitments to reduce weight for his upcoming film ‘Aadujeevitham’. He is on a strict diet to lose close to 30 kilos which will help him achieve a malnourished look. While some actors are known for beefing up their body or even shedding a few kilos, a drastic weight reduction of this proportion is not heard before in Malayalam industry.

However, Prithviraj is not really enjoying the process as it demands long hours of fasting. In a recent interview with TOI, he opened up about his process. Even though he is assisted by a dietitian, nutritionist and a trainer, he feels weak and has trouble with his sleeping hours. The actor also mentioned that he wouldn’t advise anyone to do so as it’s very strenuous.

‘Aadujeevitham’ based on Benyamin’s award winning novel of the same name. It is the life story of an abused migrant worker, Najeeb Mohammed, who gets stranded in the middle of deserts in Saudi Arabi. The lone man undergoes different experiences from seclusion, emotional conflicts and survival struggles.

Director Blessy and Prithviraj have been working on the film for over two years now. The makers had decided to shoot the film in various schedules as Prithviraj needs to be appearing in multiple looks. He will be travelling to Morocco by this month end to shoot for the portions where Najeeb gets stranded in the desert. Entire shoot will reportedly be wrapped up in September.
