If Mohanlal sir is ready, I’ll start shooting immediately: Gautham Menon

Tamil filmmaker Gautham Menon has always been vocal about his wish to work in Malayalam industry. In various stages of his career, the director has had talks with leading stars like the Big Ms, Nivin Pauly and Fahadh Faasil. In a recent interview, when asked about when fans can expect to see his film with Mohanlal, Menon said that he is ready to start shooting the moment the superstar gives the green signal. Few years back, there was a strong buzz about the two teaming up but it never materialized.

A half Malayali by birth, Gautham Menon also revealed that he had met and a discussed a script with Mammootty but it didn’t work out. However, he assured that his maiden Malayalam film is not very far away and if things turn out well, Fahadh Faasil will be playing the lead role in it.

Mammootty’s involvement and dedication stunned me: One director Santhosh Viswanath

After making his directorial debut with a spoof film, ‘Chirakodinja Kinvaukal,’ director Santhosh Viswanath is next helming ‘One’, a political flick with Mammootty in the lead. Award winning writers Bobby and Sanjay are scripting the film. Mammootty plays the role of Kerala State Chief Minister and it is the first time he is doing such a role in Malayalam. Apparently, the star was very keen that his character Kadakkal Chandran should not have resemblance to any particular real-life political leader.

During the shoot, director Santhosh Viswanath was stunned by the veteran star’s dedication and involvement. Initially, the makers had given a brief idea about Kadakkal Chandran’s look, but then Mammootty worked on the character’s gestures and other mannerisms including his dialogue delivery. The results are there to be seen in the recently-released teaser in which he looks every bit convincing as a revered politician. Interestingly, Mammootty was the makers’ only choice for this role. Bobby and Sanjay started scripting the film only after getting the star’s assurance.

Sreelakshmi R is producing ‘One’ under the banner of Ichais Productions. The film is slated to hit screens by the first week of April. Anto Joseph Film Company is releasing it in Kerala.

Titled as ‘Uma Maheshwara Ugra Roopasya’, the film is directed by Venkatesh Maha, who last helmed the widely acclaimed ‘C/O Kancherapalam’. No other character has got me such widespread appreciation in recent times: Biju Menon on Ayyappanum Koshiyum

‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ is enjoying a good run in theatres across Kerala. The film directed by Sachy has been received well by the critics and the commoners alike. It is the performance of the two lead actors, Prithviraj and Biju Menon, that is the film’s backbone. In a recent interview, Biju Menon said that no other character in recent times has got him such widespread appreciation. He has been getting so many calls from fans and well wishers post the film’s release.

‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ is basically the story of the two titular characters – Ayyappan Nair, a soon-to-retire policeman and Koshy Kurian, a retired havildar. It primarily revolves around the conflict between them. Though the plot might sound very thin, it is an intricately woven tale of revenge with a lot of important socio-political issues addressed.

Both Koshiy Kurian and Ayyappan Nair are extremely opposite characters who do things on their own terms. Ayyappan Nair is easily Biju Menon’s best character in recent times and the actor has performed it tremendously well. He is a veteran cop with an unblemished record and is revered by the local community. It is in the second half of the film, that the monster within him is woken up.

In the interview, Biju Menon said that it was easy to get into the skin of a policeman as he his father was a cop. The climax fight involving the two actors is one of the most riveting and violent action sequences in recent memory. It is learnt that the 50-year-old Biju Menon performed all the stunts by himself without the help of dupes. All the dedication and the efforts put forward by the actor has really paid off and he truly deserves all the praise that has been coming his way post the film’s release.

Mammootty was always our first choice; One would not have happened had he refused to do the film: Santhosh Viswanath

The recently released teaser of ‘One’ has been well received in social medias. Mammootty looks every bit convincing as the State Chief Minister Kadakkal Chandran. Interestingly, Mammootty was the first and only choice for this role. Director Santhosh Viswanath revealed this in a recent interview. According to him, ‘One’ would not have materialized had Mammootty refused to do the film. Bobby and Sanjay started scripting the film only after getting the star’s assurance.

With ‘One’, the makers are trying to address how an ideal Chief Minister should function. Though the film is inspired from some real-life incidents, Mammootty’s character is not based on any particular political leader. Along with him, the film has a big supporting cast comprising of actors like Murali Gopy, Nimisha Sajayan, Ranjith, Mathew Thomas, Joju George, Gayathri Arun, Balachandra Menon, Sudev Nair, Jayan Cherthala, Suresh Krishna, Salim Kumar, Shanker Ramakrishnan, Alencier Ley Lopez, Mammukoya and Balaji Sharma.
