Mohanlal to team with Android Kunjappan director Ratheesh Balakrishnan Poduval?

For the last few months, there has been a buzz about Mohanlal joining hands with ‘Android Kunjappan’ director Ratheesh Balakrishnan Poduval. The buzz just got strengthened as producer Santhosh T Kuruvila of Moonshot Entertainment shared a photo taken with Mohanlal and Ratheesh in his social media handle. Fans are eagerly waiting for the official word as they are excited to see a fresh combo.

Before making his directorial debut with ‘Android Kunjappan’, Ratheesh Balakrishnan had worked as a production designer in Bollywood films like ‘Force’, ‘Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota’ and ‘Badhaai Ho’. His maiden directorial was a big success, both critically and commercially. The film’s theme of human-robot interaction was the first of its kind in Malayalam and it struck a chord with all sections of the audience. It will be really interesting to see what the director comes up with if he gets to work with a superstar like Mohanlal.

Mohanlal is currently shooting for ‘Ram’ directed by Jeethu Joseph. Though it was expected that his ambitious directorial ‘Barroz’ would start rolling after the completion of ‘Ram’, it seems highly unlikely owing to the extensive pre-production works that the film demands. Mohanlal might have free dates after ‘Ram’, so chances of him doing a film with Ratheesh cannot be dismissed as such. Producer Santosh T Kuruvilla is also close to both of them. So let’s hope the trio is coming together and an official announcement is made soon.

Just like Pa Ranjith’s earlier films that were noted for its powerful discussion of caste and politics, ‘Salpetta’ is also expected to deal with topics like oppression and discrimination that happens in the field of kick-boxing in Tamil Nadu. The story is set in the 80s timeline in the North Madras region. Arya is seen sporting a ripped physique for which he has been training continuously for the last seven months.

Interestingly, the makers have already shot around 50% of the film. On the technical front, cinematographer Murali and music director Santhosh Narayanan, both of whom are regulars in Ranjith’s films have been retained. Stunt master duo AnbuAriv will be handling the action choreography.

Kamal Haasan to donate Rs 1 crore to families of deceased in Indian 2 accident

Tamil film industry is yet to come to terms with the shocking accident that occurred at the sets of ‘Indian 2’, resulting in the death of 3 technicians and 10 others getting injured. Director Shankar and lead actors Kamal Haasan and Kajal Aggarwal were present on the sets and had a very narrow escape.

Last day, Kamal Haasan held a press meet in Chennai where he slammed the lack of safety facilities in film sets. He also promised to donate Rs 1 crore to the families of the crew members who got killed in the mishap. The film’s producers Lyca Productions also announced that they will donate a sum of Rs 2 crore as financial aid to the families of the deceased and the injured.

Regarding the lack of safety facilities, Kamal is quoted saying, “I have been in this industry since my childhood, and this incident has once again proved that there is no safety compliance. We boast about big-budget films, without providing safety to people working for the movies.”

The incident occured on Wednesday night at around 9.45 PM in Chennai’s EVP Film City when a huge crane carrying light equipment came crashing down suddenly. Reportedly, the rope that was used to hold up the light set-up gave way. Weighing hundreds of tons, the crane instantly crushed 3 people to death. Those injured were immediately taken to a nearby private hospital.

The huge crane fell on top of the canopy where the director and his assistants would watch the monitor while actors perform. Kamal Haasan opened up on how fortunate he was to escape the accident by a whisker.

He said, “Just seconds before the accident, the director (Shankar) and cameraman (Rathnavelu) moved away from the place. Kajal and I were under the tent which got crushed. If I had moved two inches away from my place, someone else would have been talking to you instead of me.”

Assistant director Krishna (34), art assistant Chandran (60) and production assistant Madhu (29) are the three technicians who passed away. Police officials have filed a case and are investigating the cause of the accident.

As ‘Varane Avashyamund’ has successfully entered its third successful week of theatrical run, the makers have released a new song online. Titled as ‘Muthunne Kannukalil’, the song gives a sneak peek into the lives of the three lead characters played by Shobana, Kalyani Priyadarshan and Dulquer Salmaan. Swetha Mohan and Swetha Somasundaram have sung the track. Lyrics is penned by Santosh Varma and it is set to tunes by Alphons Joseph.

‘Varane Avashyamund’ had a lot of expectations prior to its release and staying true to the hype, the film is doing well at the box office. Families and youth audience have lapped up the film. Anoop Sathyan has written and directed the film, which is basically about relationships. The story is centred around four individuals – Major Unnikrishnan (Suresh Gopi), Bibeesh (Dulquer Salmaan), a single mother named Neena (Shobhana) and her daughter Nikhitha (Kalyani).

Besides the stellar lead cast, the film also has actors like Urvashi, Lal Jose, Major Ravi, Johny Antony, Lalu Alex, Siju Wilson and KPAC Lalitha in it. Dulquer Salmaan has produced the film under his banner of Wayfarer Films. M Star Entertainments is also associated with the production.

‘Jack and Jill’ directed by Santosh Sivan is an eagerly awaited film for many reasons. It has solid lead cast comprising of Manju Warrier, Soubin Shahir and Kalidas Jayaram. Unlike the usual potboilers, it is said to be a new, first of its kind attempt in Malayalam cinema. In addition to that, Santosh Sivan is also directing a film after a long gap. All these factors add up to the hype.

Recently, while working with Rajinikanth in ‘Darbar’, Santosh Sivan had shown him some footages from ‘Jack and Jill’. The superstar was highly impressed by Manju Warrier’s performance in it. Santosh Sivan revealed this in a recent chat show with a popular radio channel. Apparently, Manju has performed action scenes in the film for which she underwent training in mixed martial arts. Rajinikanth was in awe of how Manju performed a particular scene, which was a fusion of action and Bharathanatyam.

The makers of ‘Jack and Jill’ have so far been tight-lipped about the genre but we hear that it’s a quirky sci-fi flick. Its cast also includes Nedumudi Venu, Aju Varghese, Soubin Shahir, Basil Joseph, Ramesh Pisharody and Suraj Venjaramoodu. A Dubai based company, Lensman Studios, is producing the movie. Release date has not yet been announced.

Mammootty’s new film ‘One’ is getting ready to hit screens in April. Santhosh Viswanath of ‘Chirakodinja Kinavukal’ is directing the film. It is a political drama scripted by Bobby-Sanjay and produced by Ichais Productions. The makers have released the teaser online. As informed earlier, Mammootty plays the role of a Chief Minister in the film. His character is named as Kadakkal Chandran.

In the teaser, Mammootty looks majestic as the State CM with his commanding voice and appearance. Writers Bobby-Sanjay have taken inspiration from some real life incidents to script this film. With ‘One’, the makers are trying to address how an ideal Chief Minister should function.

Recently, Tamil superstar Ajith got injured while shooting a scene for his upcoming film ‘Valimai’. It was a bike chase sequence in Chennai and the actor suffered minor bruises. It is reported that Ajith took just a break of 20 minutes and continued with the shoot. The entire team was stunned by his remarkable professionalism. Fans in social medias have been praising their idol for his commitment and dedication towards his craft.

‘Valimai’ is written and directed by H Vinoth. This is his second successive film with Ajith after the success of ‘Nerkonda Paaravai’. ‘Valimai’ is said to be a cop action thriller. Bollywood actress Huma Qureshi has been roped in as the female lead and she has already started shooting for her portions. It is her second outing in Tamil after making her debut couple of years back with superstar Rajinikanth’s ‘Kaala’.

‘Valimai’ has Yuvan Shankar Raja as the music director and Nirav Shah as the cinematographer. The film is scheduled for a grand Diwali release in November.

Dulquer Salmaan’s long awaited Tamil film ‘Kannum Kannum Kollai Adithaal’ (KKKA) is gearing up for release. Censoring, which is the final hurdle before release, has been done and the film has been given a clean U certificate. So it has been confirmed that the film will be hitting screens on February 28.

‘KKKA’ is written and directed by debutant Desingh Periyasamy. From the recently released trailer, the film gives vibes of a romantic thriller. Dulquer Salmaan reportedly plays the role of a happy-go-lucky IT professional named Siddharth aka Sid. ‘Pelli Choopulu’ fame Ritu Varma is paired opposite him. Television host Rakshan plays Dulquer’s close friend and Niranjani Ahathian plays his girlfriend.

Just when things seem to go well in all their lives, they face an issue related to online shopping scam. From the trailer, we presume that Gautham Vasudev Menon plays the villain role in the film. It has KM Bhaskar as the DOP and Praveen Antony as the editor. Popular music band Masala Cafe is composing the songs while background score is done by Harsh Vardhan Rameshwar.

Viacom 18 Studios is presenting the film in association with Anto Joseph Film Company.
