Bollywood’s obsession with biopics continue. Mithali Raj, arguably the greatest woman cricketer to have represented India, is the latest to get one. Taapsee Pannu is playing the lead in the film, which has been titled as ‘Shabaash Mithu’. First look poster of the film has just been released online. ‘Raees’ fame Rahul Dholakia is directing the film and Priya Aven has scripted it. Taapsee is currently undergoing rigorous cricket training as part of preparations for the film.

Mithali Raj is a veteran with over 20 years of experience in international cricket. She is regarded as one of the greatest batswomen to have ever played the game. Mithali owns numerous records to her name like being the highest run-scorer in women’s international cricket and the only female cricketer to surpass the 6,000 run mark in WODIs. She is the also only woman cricketer to have played over 200 ODIs.

‘Shabaash Mithu’ is scheduled for worldwide release on February 5, 2021.

Suresh Gopi starts shooting for his upcoming mass entertainer Kaaval

As reported by us earlier, Suresh Gopi is making his comeback to mass genre with ‘Kaaval’ which is being directed by Nithin Renji Panicker of ‘Kasaba’ fame. Shoot for the film commenced recently and the makers have been sharing a few snippets from the location that has excited the fans.

Nithin Renji Panicker has also scripted the film that has been planned as an action-packed family drama. The story set in the high ranges of Idukki spans across two different timelines. Renji Panciker is playing a crucial role along with Suresh Gopi. Lal was originally supposed to play the role but he opted out due to his prior commitments in other languages. Both Suresh Gopi and Renji Panciker will be appearing in two getups in the film – an older and younger look.

‘Irupathiyonnaam Noottaandu’ fame Zaya David plays the female lead. Others in the supporting cast include Alencier Ley Lopez, IM Vijayan, Sujith Shankar, Kichu Tellus, Binu Pappu, Santhosh Keezhattoor, Muthumani and Pathamaraj Ratheesh. National award winner Nikhil S Praveen, noted for his work in Jayaraj’s highly acclaimed films ‘Bhayanakam’ and ‘Roudram’ is wielding the camera. Ranjin Raj of ‘Joseph’ fame is the music director. Joby George of Goodwill Entertainments is producing the film.

Anjaam Pathiraa heads towards Rs 40 crore club!

Kunchacko Boban starrer ‘Anjaam Pathiraa’ is moving towards a mega blockbuster status. From its 18 days of theatrical run worldwide, the film has grossed Rs 34.25 crore. It is expected to cross the Rs 50 crore mark very soon. From Kerala alone, the film has grossed Rs 24.10 crore and and another Rs 1.35 crore from Rest of India (RoI) centres.

From the overseas region, ‘Anjaam Pathiraa’ has earned Rs 8.80 crore. In North American belt alone, the film has done a business of $114K, which is said to be a huge figure considering the absence of a big star and the performance of the other recent Malayalam films. It is a clear indicator of the fact that the global market is widening for Malayalam cinema.

‘Anjaam Pathiraa’ directed by Midhun Manuel Thomas is a crime thriller centred around a series of killings of policemen. Kunchacko Boban plays the lead role of a criminologist. Unnimaya, Jinu Joseph, Harikrishnan, Jaffer Idukki, Sharafudheen and Remya Nambeesan play the other key roles.

The first song video from Abrid Shine’s ‘The Kung Fu Master’ has been released online. The track titled ‘Ee Vazhiye’ is composed by Ishaan Chhabra. Karthik and Nithya Mammen have lent their vocals while lyrics is penned by Sreerekha Bhaskaran. This lovely song that follows a family vacation captures the beauty of Rishikesh. Major Ravi’s son Arjun Ravi is the cinematographer.

‘The Kung Fu Master’ had hit screens last Friday. The film has opened to generally positive reviews. Critics and the common audience have praised the film, particularly the action part. The authenticity with which the stunts have been performed and shot makes it a first of its kind film in Malayalam cinema.

It is a revenge driven martial arts film set in the foothills of Himalayas. ‘Poomaram’ fame Neeta Pillai, Jiji Scaria and Sanoop Dinesh have played the lead roles. A bunch of newcomers are also part of the film. It is produced under the banner of Full On Studio Frames.

Thalapathy 65: Vijay to team up with Soorarai Pottru director Sudha Kongara next?

Though Vijay’s new film ‘Master’ is still on the floors, talks about his next (Thalapathy 65) has already begun. Directors like Atlee, AR Murugadoss and Mohan Rajan were initially interested in doing mass entertainers with Vijay. However, the actor is now said to be more keen on doing content oriented films. Following that, names like Vetrimaaran and Magizh Thirumeni emerged online. Pandiraj was also said to be in talks for a rural-based family entertainer.

More recent reports suggest that director Sudha Kongara has pitched an interesting subject to Vijay. Though the actor is yet to sign the dotted lines, he seems to have been impressed by the storyline and his character. If Vijay agrees to be part of the film, it will be the first time he will be working with a woman filmmaker.

Sudha Kongara, a former associate of Mani Ratnam, is noted for helming the bilingual boxing film ‘Irudhi Suttru’ aka ‘Saala Khadoos’ (Hindi). She also remade the film in Telugu as ‘Guru’. She is currently working on ‘Soorarai Pottru’, an ambitious film that has Suriya in the lead. If things turn out well, Sudha’s film with Vijay will be produced by Sun Pictures.

After Big Brother, Sarjano Khalid to make his Tamil debut with Vikram’s Cobra

Malayali actor Sarjano Khalid who made his debut last year with ‘June’ is all set to foray into Tamil film industry. He will be making his K-Town debut with ‘Cobra’ that has Chiyaan Vikram in the lead. Sarjano himself revealed this in a recent interview. It is also said that Shane Nigam was the first choice for the role. The makers had to opt for Sarjano Khalid due to Shane’s unavailability. The former was last seen as Mohanlal’s younger brother in ‘Big Brother’.

‘Cobra’ is written and directed by Ajay Gnanamuthu of ‘Demonte Colony’ and ‘Imaikka Nodigal’ fame. The film also marks the acting debut of former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan. Srinidhi Shetty, well known as the heroine in the Kannada blockbuster ‘KGF’, plays the female lead.

7 Screen Studio is producing ‘Cobra’ that is being shot across various countries. Academy award winner AR Rahman is composing music for the film.

Mohanlal-Jeethu Joseph film Ram slated for Pooja release!

Shoot for Mohanlal’s new film ‘Ram’ with director Jeethu Josepu is currently progressing at a brisk pace. After the ongoing schedule in Kerala, the film will be shot in foreign locations like Egypt, London and Istanbul. Though it was initially reported that the film will be hitting screens during Onam 2020, it is now heard that the makers are planning to release it in October for the Pooja holidays. An official confirmation in this regard is still awaited. The film is being made on a budget of over Rs 25 crore, so it is only ideal that the makers are trying to cash in on the big festival opening.

‘Ram’ is touted to be an action thriller. Mohanlal and Trisha are coming together for the first time with this film. Indrajith Sukumaran, Durga Krishna and Leona Lishoy are also part of the cast. Satheesh Kurup is the DOP and debutant Vishnu Shyam will be handling the music department. VS Vinayak is the editor. Ramesh R Pillai and Sudhan S Pillai are jointly producing the film under the banner of Abhishek Films.

After over two years of making, Anwar Rasheed’s ambitious project ‘Trance’ is finally hitting screens this February 14. Debutant Vincent Vadakkan has scripted the film that has Fahadh Faasil playing the lead of a motivational trainer named Biju Prasad. The film is centred around his mental and emotional growth at different phases of his life. Nazriya Nazim plays the female lead.

Interestingly, this is the first time Fahadh and Nazriya are acting together after getting married in 2014. This is also probably the first time that a Malayali celebrity couple is sharing screen space after marriage. In ‘Trance’, Nazriya plays a character named Esther Lopez. According to director Anwar Rasheed, it is a character that will be totally different from the bubbly and vivacious roles that she is normally associated with.

Gautham Vasudev Menon, Soubin Shahir, Vinayakan, Chemban Vinod Jose, Dileesh Pothan, Sreenath Bhasi, Jinu Joseph, Joju George, Unnimaya, Arjun Ashokan, Dharmajan Bolgatty, Arushi Mudgal and Aswathi Menon are also part of the cast.

Mammootty starrer ‘Shylock’ continues to get tremendous response all over. The film which hit screens on January 23 has taken a massive opening. After a successful opening weekend, the film managed to have good occupancy on the first working day, Monday, as well. With families also thronging theatres in large numbers, ‘Shylock’ is certain to have a long run.

Meanwhile, the makers have released a new song video online. The track titled ‘Manikya Kiliye’ is composed by Gopi Sunder. Sachin Raj, Allwyn Eby George, Divya S Menon and Christa Kala have rendered the song. Along with the Malayalam lyrics written by BK Harinarayanan, veteran actor Raj Kiran has penned the Tamil lyrics.

‘Shylock’ is an out and out mass entertainer that has a terrific Mammootty at the helm of things. In what is otherwise a regular storyline, it is the megastar who holds things together. Ajai Vasudev has directed the film and is scripted by Bibin Mohan and Aneesh Hameed.

At the age of 69, there are only very few people who are as energetic and agile as Rajinikanth. Much has been talked about his charisma on-screen where he convincingly pulls off the image taking down any number of villains with ease. Now it’s time for the superstar to get into the wild. As per latest reports from trustworthy sources, Rajinikanth is currently shooting in Bandipur forests for the world famous show Man vs Wild, which is being hosted by Bear Grylls.

Interestingly, Rajinikanth is only the second Indian to feature in the show. Last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had appeared in the show where he stressed about the importance of nature conservation. It will be interesting to see what Rajinikanth’s episode has to offer. Since he is one of the most popular figures in the country, it is only ideal that the makers got him to be a part of the show. Details regarding when the episode will be aired will be out soon.

On the work front, Rajinikanth will be seen in director Siva’s film next. Rumoured to be a rural-based mass entertainer, the film has a big star cast comprising of actors like Keerthy Suresh, Khushbhu Sundar, Meena, Prakash Raj and many others.
