Peeli Thirumudi: Check out this new song from Mamangam
As ‘Mamangam’ continues to do well in theatres, the makers have released a new video song online. The track titled ‘Peeli Thirumudi’ is one of the most talk about sequences in the film. Mammootty makes a stunning appearance in a least expected avatar and his feminine mannerisms were spot on. Netizens had already leaked the song online and shared it widely for degrading the film. But the makers have now taken a daring move to release the official video online.
‘Mamangam’ is a period flick directed by M Padmakumar and produced by Venu Kunnappilly. Shanker Ramakrishnan has penned the adapted screenplay. Along with Mammootty, the film also stars Unni Mukundan, Master Achuthan, Siddique, Prachi Tehlan, Ineya, Kaniha and Anu Sithara in major roles. As per the makers, the film has already entered the elite 100 crore club. It was only recently that they announced about a Hong Kong based company acquiring the distribution rights for a record price to release the film in China.
‘Valiya Perunnal’ starring Shane Nigam in the lead hit screens on Friday (December 20). The film has opened to largely positive response despite its experimental tone. Earlier in day, a new song got released online. Soubin Shahir shared the song through his official social media handle. The track titled as ‘Kanda Kanda’ is composed by Rex Vijayan and sung by Gowri Lekshmi. Actors Sreenath Bhasi and Srinda has rendered the rap portions.
Directed by debutant Dimal Dennis, ‘Valiya Perunnal’ is touted to be a mass entertainer based in Fort Kochi. Director Dimal has scripted the film jointly with Thasreeq Abdul Salam. Dimal has also penned the lyrics for this song.
Along with Shane Nigam, the cast also includes Joju George, ‘Filter Coffee’ fame Himika Bose, Vinayakan, Soubin Shahir, Alencier Ley, Captain Raju, Dharmajan Bolgatty and a bunch of other newcomers.
Monisha Rajeev is producing ‘Valiya Perunnal’ under the banner of Magic Mountain Cinemas and hit film maker Anwar Rasheed has presented it.
As speculated earlier, Suriya is all set to team up with award-winning filmmaker Vetrimaaran. The official announcement was made last day producer Kalaippuli S Thanu of V Creations. Thanu was also the producer of Vetrimaaran’s recently released blockbuster film ‘Asuran’. Announcing the project, he tweeted,
After the tremendous success of Asuran, director @VetriMaaran will be teaming up with @Suriya_offl
for the first time in #Suriya40
@theVcreations is happy and proud to produce this film.
– S.Thanu
Suriya and Vetrimaaran are collaborating for the first time and needless to say, expectations will be sky-high. The star has been through a rough patch over the last few years as he is trying hard to find a balance between content oriented films and mass masala entertainers. Vetrimaran’s film might be the much needed comeback film for him.
Suriya’s next release will be ‘Soorarai Pottru’ directed by Sudha Kongara. He has also committed for projects with directors Siva and Hari.
Positive reviews galore for Prithviraj-Suraj starrer Driving Licence
‘Driving Licence’ directed by Jean Paul Lal hit screens across India last day. The film scripted by Sachy has Prithviraj Sukumaran and Suraj Venjaramoodu in the lead roles. Deepti Sati, Miya George, Nandu, Suresh Krishna, Lalu Alex, Saiju Kurup, Major Ravi and Shivaji Guruvayoor appear in supporting roles.
The film has opened to largely positive response. Film-based social media groups are flooded with positive reviews for the film. Critic reviews have also been encouraging with special mention for the performance of its two lead actors – Prithviraj and Suraj Venjaramoodu.
‘Driving Licence’ has a very interesting storyline. It is primarily centred around two individuals – Hareendran, a film star and Kuruvilla, his ardent fan, who is a motor vehicle inspector. As circumstances turn out, the two lock horns and constantly try to outsmart each other. It is the clash of ego between the two that form the film’s crux. Both Prithviraj and Suraj have delivered excellent performances in the film.
With the initial response being largely positive, ‘Driving Licence’ is expected to have a long run at the box office. Families are certain to take up the film during this holiday season.
As reported by us earlier, veteran filmmaker Sathyan Anthikad’s son Anoop Sathyan is making his directorial debut with a film that has a dream cast. Dulquer Salmaan, Shobhana, Suresh Gopi, Kalyani Priyadarshan and Urvashi play the lead roles in the film. After over two months of shoot, the film finally got wrapped up last day.
Anoop himself has scripted the film, which is said to be a family entertainer. It is a special film for many reasons. Veterans Shobhana and Suresh Gopi are acting together after around 14 years. Kalyani, who had already made a mark in Telugu and Tamil cinema, is making her Malayalam debut. Besides playing one of the leads, Dulquer Salmaan is also producing it under his banner of Wayfarer Films. M Star Communications is also associated with the production.
On the technical front of this yet-to-be titled film, Mukesh Muraleedharan of ‘Uyare’ fame has cranked the camera and music department is being handled by Alphonse. Title and first look poster are expected to be out shortly.
Shane Nigam’s ‘Valiya Perunnal’ has been in the making for over a year. The wait finally came to an end last day as the film has hit screens across Kerala. Directed by Dimal Dennis, ‘Valiya Perunnal’ is an unconventional film that revolves around a bunch of individuals residing in the Mattanchery region in Kochi.
Since the onset of this decade, there have been numerous films set in the shady downtowns of Mattanchery and Fort Kochi. But ‘Valiya Perunnal’ still manages to stand out as the setting is of utmost importance and organically laced around the narrative.
The film has Shane Nigam playing the lead character named Ashkar Salaudhin aka Akkar. ‘Filter Coffee’ fame Himika Bose is paired with him. She plays Pooja, a Gujarati who runs a dance school in Mattanchery along with her boyfriend Akkar. The core plot kick-starts when a group of masked youngsters attack a cab to loot gold from the passengers in it. During the investigation, Akkar and his friends get tangled in it. How they find a way out forms the rest of the plot.
Valiya Perunnal Review
First things first, ‘Valiya Perunnal’ scripted by director Dimal and Thasreeq Abdul is not a regular film with a linear set up-conflict-resolution format. There are a lot of parallel tracks involving multiple characters and their back stories. So it is very important for the viewer to be very attentive throughout the entire run time, which is just over 3 hours. What it offers is an immersive experience where the knots are unfolded gradually but very cleverly.
Shane Nigam holds the film together with his stellar performance and Himika Bose perfectly complements him. Several first time actors from the locality are part of the film and naturally there are some amateurish performances. Joju George, Vinayakan, Captain Raju and Soubin Shahir also appear in brief roles.
Valiya Perunnal Review
Technically, ‘Valiya Perunnal’ is a rich film with outstanding music from Rex Vijayan. The raw and rustic cinematography further add to the authenticity of the treatment. Editor Vivek Harshan is entrusted with the herculean task of compiling such a big film without any loose ends and he has done his part neatly.
Overall, ‘Valiya Perunnal’ is definitely worth for all those who love to watch something different from the regular potboilers.
Prathi Poovankozhi Review: It’s a Manju Warrier show all the way!
Manju Warrier starrer ‘Prathi Poovankozhi’ is among the most exciting Christmas releases from Malayalam this year. The film is directed by Rosshan Andrrews and scripted by Unni R. The trailer and pre-release promos looked highly promising. Let’s see if it manages to live up to the expectations.
‘Prathi Poovankozhi’ is based on one of Unni R’s short stories. The writer is well known for sketching unique characters and his ability to convey his politics in a very effective manner. Here in ‘Prathi Poovankozhi’, Unni R has addressed the various issues faced by women in a patriarchal society and the need for them to stand up and resist.
Madhuri (Manju Warrier) and Rosamma (Ansuree) play ordinary women working in a textile shop in Kottayam. While on her way to her work place, the former gets physically harassed in a bus. Even when everyone around her advice her to turn a blind eye, Madhuri is deeply affected by the incident and decides to track down the molester and make him suffer. The film, basically, is centred around Madhuri’s journey in search of the abuser to teach him a lesson.
Prathi Poovankozhi Malayalam Movie Review
Director Rosshan Andrrews has made quality films whenever he is provided with good content. With this film, he once again proves himself as a skilled filmmaker as he comes up with an engaging thriller out of a very thin storyline. He compacts the entire film to just around 105 minutes, which is one of the biggest plus points here. Due credits to veteran editor Sreekar Prasad as well.
Manju Warrier is the go-to choice for female centric films in Malayalam and the actress yet again proves why she is much in demand. As Madhuri, she puts on a fierce act that at times remind us of her ‘Kanmadam’ days. Manju is also aided by a strong well-written character. All she has to do was to sink in her teeth, which she does quite effortlessly. Ansuree as her fun loving sidekick was also very impressive.
Prathi Poovankozhi Malayalam Movie Review
Rosshan Andrrews in his acting debut is solid and manages to make a mark despite having minimal dialogues. If he is willing to take up good characters, he might soon be a very busy actor. Saiju Kurup, ‘Kumbalangi Nights’ fame Grace Antony, Divyaprabha and Alencier Ley Lopez are the other notable performers in the film.
In a nutshell, ‘Prathi Poovankozhi’ is a highly engaging and arresting film with a mass(y) Manju Warrier at the helm of things.
Mamangam becomes Mammootty’s second 100 crore grosser in 2019
2019 has been a great year for Mammootty as two of his films have entered the 100 crore club. ‘Madhura Raja’ was the first to make it to the list followed by the recently released ‘Mamangam’. It has hardly been 10 days since the release of ‘Mamangam’, but the makers have officially declared that the film has crossed the three-figure mark. Mammootty is now the only superstar in Malayalam cinema to have two 100 grossers in a single year.
‘Mamangam’ is a period flick directed by M Padmakumar and produced by Venu Kunnappilly. Along with Mammootty, the film also stars Unni Mukundan, Master Achuthan, Siddique, Prachi Tehlan, Ineya, Kaniha and Anu Sithara in major roles.
As per the makers, ‘Mamangam’ got released in over 2000 screens across 45 countries worldwide. From its first four days of theatrical run itself, the film had grossed a whopping Rs 60.70 crores. Though the critic reviews have been mixed, the massive worldwide release in multiple languages has helped a great deal in the box office collections.
Apart from the original Malayalam version, ‘Mamangam’ got released in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi languages. It was only recently that a Hong Kong based company acquired the film’s distribution rights for a record price to release it in China.
Dileep’s ‘My Santa’ has been scheduled for release on December 25 on the Christmas day. Just a while back, the makers released a new song teaser online. The track titled ‘Oh Bullemma’ is composed by Vidyasagar and sung by Karthik. Santhosh Varmad has penned the lyrics.
Directed by Sugeeth, ‘My Santa’ looks like an out and out fun entertainer aimed at the kids and family audience. Dileep and a 7-year-old girl kid play major roles in the film. Debutant Jemin Cyriac has scripted the film. It has an interesting subject as Dileep will be appearing as a Santa Claus in the film.
Anusree plays the female lead. It is her second film with Dileep after ‘Chandrettan Evideya’. Young star Sunny Wayne is also essaying a crucial role in the film. Sai Kumar, Dharmajan, Hareesh Kanaran, Indrans, Siddique, Shine Tom Chacko and many others are part of the film.
On the technical front, the film has Faizal Ali as the DOP, Sajan as the editor and Vidyasagar as the music director. It is the maiden venture of a newly launched production banner named Wall Poster Entertainments. Scriptwriter Nishad Koya, Saritha Sugeeth, Ajeesh OK and Sandra Maria Jose are heading the banner.
