Shylock teaser release date announced!

Megastar Mammootty’s much anticipated mass entertainer ‘Shylock’ is scheduled for release next month. The eagerly awaited teaser will be out on December 19 (Thursday) at 7 PM in the evening. The teaser, which has a duration of 1.27 minutes will also be screened in all theatres playing Mammootty’s latest release, ‘Mamangam’, from Friday.

‘Shylock’ is directed by Ajai Vasudev of ‘Masterpiece’ and ‘Rajadhiraja’ fame. Scripted jointly by Bibin Mohan and Aneesh Hameed, the film is touted to be a complete mass entertainer. It has been planned as a Tamil-Malayalam bilingual. The Tamil version is titled as ‘Kuselan’. Veteran Tamil actor Raj Kiran is making his Malayalam debut with this film. He has also penned the dialogues for the film’s Tamil version.

Meena, Bibin George, Baiju, Siddique, Kalabhavan Shajohn, Arthana Binu, Arjun Nandakumar, Hareesh Kanaran and many others are also part of the cast. Joby George of Goodwill Entertainment is producing the film. ‘Shylock’ was originally scheduled for release on December 20 but was postponed due to change in plans of ‘Mamangam’. It is now slated to hit screens on January 23.

Last day, the launch event of Mohanlal’s upcoming film with Jeethu Joseph was held at Le Meridien, Kochi. Several prominent figures from the film industry attended the event which saw the unveiling of the title and an accompanying poster. The film has been titled as ‘Ram’ and it will have popular South Indian actress Trisha as the female lead. It is her second Malayalam film after debuting last year with ‘Hey Jude’. Indrajith Sukumaran will also be seen essaying a very prominent role.

‘Ram’ marks the reunion of Mohanlal and Jeethu Joseph after the record-breaking success of ‘Drishyam’. So expectations will naturally be on the higher side. As per the director, this new film will be an unusual mass entertainer this time. It is an action-thriller with a realistic touch. This big budget film will be shot across various foreign locations like Egypt, London and Istanbul. Ramesh R Pillai and Sudhan S Pillai are jointly producing the film under the banner of Abhishek Films.

Satheesh Kurup is the DOP and debutant Vishnu Shyam will be handling the music department. VS Vinayak is the editor. Shoot for the film is set to begin very shortly.

Indrajith Sukumaran is celebrating his birthday today. The makes of his new film ‘Aaha’ have released their first look poster on this special day. The star’s brother, Prithviraj shared the poster through his social media handle. ‘Aaha’ is a sports flick based on Kerala’s own sport, ‘tug of war’ aka ‘vadamvali’.

Debutant Bibin Paul Samuel is editing and directing the film. Tobit Chirayath has scripted the film, which is said to be inspired from a famous team ‘Aaha Neeloor’ that had won a stunning 72 matches out of the 73 they played in the 2008 season.

Along with Indrajith, the film also stars ‘Vaarikuzhiyile Kolapathakam’ fame Amit Chakalakkal and Ashwin K Kumar in major roles. Santhy Balachandran of ‘Tharangam’ fame plays the female lead. The film has a relatively new set of names behind the camera. DOP Rahul Balachandran, music directors Sayanora Philip and Shiyad Kabeer (background score) are part of the technical crew.

‘Aaha’ is being produced by Prem Abraham of Zsa Zsa Productions.

Bigil actress Reba Monica John completes Forensic!

‘Forensic’ is an upcoming thriller film directed jointly by Akhil Paul and Anas Khan. Tovino Thomas plays the lead role in the film, which also stars Mamta Mohandas and ‘Bigil’ fame Reba Monica John in major roles. It is a fresh attempt in Malayalam as full length films dealing with forensic science have not been previously made here.

Tovino plays the lead character named Samuel John Kaattookaran, who is a medico legal adviser working in the Kerala police’s forensic science lab. Reba essays a character named Shikha Damodar, also working in the forensic department. The actress wrapped up her portions last day and took to her social media handle to share the same. She has written,

And it’s a wrap! What a pleasure it was to shoot for FORENSIC with this fantabulous team. Felt so much at home. Missing everybody already.

‘Forensic’ will be Reba’s first release in Malayalam after she played an important role in the Tamil blockbuster ‘Bigil’. Her performance as acid attack survivor in the film was widely appreciated. ‘Forensic’ is actually her fourth Malayalam film. She made her acting debut with ‘Jacobinte Swargarajyam’, followed it up with ‘Paippin Chuvattile Pranayam’ and later did a cameo appearance in ‘Mikhael’.

Akhil Paul and Anas Khan have scripted ‘Forensic’ based on some real-life inspired events. Saiju Kurup, Giju John, ‘Lilli’ fame Dhanesh Anand, Renji Panicker, Anwar Shereef, Anil Murali and many others are also part of the supporting cast. It is being produced by Navis Xaviour and Siju Mathew under the banner of Juvis Productions and Raju Malliath’s Ragam Movies.

Trailer of superstar Rajinikanth’s ‘Darbar’ has been released online. As expected, it is a mass teaser packed with sneak peek of goosebumps inducing moments. Written and directed by AR Murugadoss, ‘Darbar’ is actually a cop action thriller that has the veteran star in a police officer’s role.

Rajinikanth is playing a cop’s role after nearly two decades. So naturally, there is a lot of expectations on the film. Nayanthara is paired opposite him and Nivetha Thomas will be seen as his daughter. Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty plays the antagonist role. The supporting cast also comprises of Prateik Babbar, Sriman, Yogi Babu, cricketer Yuvraj Singh’s Yograj Singh and many others.

Lyca Productions is producing the film, which is scheduled for a grand worldwide release in January during the Pongal holidays.

Directed by Jeo Baby, the film is said to be a travel based fun entertainer. Prithviraj Sukumaran shared the first look poster through his official social media handle.

According to Tovino, ‘Kilometers and Kilometers’ is a proper commercial entertainer with a strong content. If reports are to be believed, the film has a foreign actress as the female lead. It is tipped to be an unique love story. The lead lady of this movie is someone who arrives from the US to visit India. Tovino will be seen as a ‘naadan’ youth who upholds his family values.

After the National winning ‘Sudani From Nigeria’, director Zakariya is now working on his sophomore film ‘Halal Love Story’, that has Joju George, Indrajith Sukumaran, Sharafudheen and Grace Antony in the lead roles. Shoot for the film has been progressing for the last few weeks. Recently, Indrajith wrapped up his portions. In a brief note written note on his social media handle, the star revealed that he plays a very layered character and sounded very hopeful about the film.

Indrajith’s post reads,

Wrapped up my work for HALAL LOVE STORY today early morning! Always loved portraying humour on screen, and this one probably is gonna be the most layered character among that lot!

‘Halal Love Story’ is scripted by Zakariya and Muhsin Parari. They both had also penned ‘Sudani From Nigeria’. Ajay Menon is the cinematographer and edits will be handled by Saiju Sreedharan. Bijibal and Shahabaz Aman are jointly composing the music. Director Aashiq Abu is producing the film along with Jesna Ashim and Harshad Ali.

Official: Mamangam hits the 60 crore mark from four days of theatrical run!

Mammootty’s much hyped period film ‘Mamangam’ got released last Friday (December 12) amidst massive expectations. The film had a simultaneous worldwide release. The makers had claimed that the first day collections from the worldwide box office account to around Rs 23 crore. Just a while back, they declared that the film has grossed a whopping Rs 60.70 crores from its first four days of worldwide theatrical run.

According to the makers, ‘Mamangam’ is running in over 2000 screens across 45 countries worldwide. Though the critic reviews have been mixed, the fact that the film got a massive worldwide release in multiple languages has helped the film a great deal. Apart from the original Malayalam version, ‘Mamangam’ has been released in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi languages.

Trade analyst Sreedhar Pillai has tweeted,

#Mamangam is reported to have grossed worldwide around ₹60 Cr, in its opening 4-day weekend (Dec 12-15) which is impressive.Though the film carries mixed reviews, it was able to open simultaneously in a lot of screens in India & worldwide in 4 languages,giving that extra reach.

‘Mamangam’ directed by M Padmakumar is an epic film made on a huge budget. Mammootty and Unni Mukundan play fearless warriors in the film, which is the story of chaaverukal. Venu Kunnappilly of Kavya Films has produced this mega budget film.

After Driving Licence and Ayyappanum Koshiyum, Prithviraj to team up with Sachi once again!

After the superhit success of ‘Anarkali’, the trio of Prithviraj, Biju Menon and director Sachy are coming together once again for ‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’. Shoot for the film got wrapped up only recently. Prithviraj and Sachy associated in ‘Driving Licence’ as well. Sachy has scripted the film and is directed by Jean Paul Lal.

As per our sources within the industry, the combo of Prithviraj and Sachy will be joining hands once again. Sachy will be scripting the film and debutant Jayan Nambiar will be directing it. Jayan had previously assisted Prithviraj in his directorial debut ‘Lucifer’. He will also be part of the direction team in ‘Empuraan’. More details regrading his debut film is awaited.

Prithviraj meanwhile is on a three-month long break to reduce weight for his ambitious film ‘Aadujeevitham’. ‘Driving Licence’ will be his next release, scheduled to hit screens this coming Friday (December 20). His own banner is producing the film along with Listin Stephen’s Magic Frames.

As the release date is closing in, the makers of ‘Prathi Poovankozhi’ have released a new teaser. It is yet another mass teaser with a fierce Manju Warrier at the helm. The film directed by Rosshan Andrrews is up for Christmas release on December 20. Earlier, the film’s got great response from the viewers.

‘Prathi Poovankozhi’ scripted by Unni R looks like a thriller with a mass act from Manju Warrier. The film has Manju and Ansuree as sales girls working in a textile shop. Director Rosshan Andrrews is making his acting debut with this film. He is playing the main villain character named Antappan. ‘Kumbalangi Nights’ fame Grace Antony, Saiju Kurup, Alencier Ley Lopez and ‘Marimayam’ Sreekumar are also part of the cast.

‘Prathi Poovankozhi’ has G Balamurugan as the cinematographer and Gopi Sunder handling the music department. Veteran Sreekar Prasad is the editor. The film is being produced by Gokulam Gopalan under the banner of Sri Gokulam Films.
