Pariyerum Perumal fame Kathir to star in Ishq remake!

‘Ishq’ starring Shane Nigam and Shine Tom Chacko in the lead roles got released earlier this year and won widespread critical acclaim. The film also fared pretty well at the box office. Upon its release in legal streaming platform Amazon Prime, several non-Malayali cinephiles were impressed by the film and applauded the makers. Directed by debutant Anuraj Manohar and scripted by Ratheesh Ravi, ‘Ishq’ dealt with moral policing on a superficial level, but it also exposed the hypocrisy and misogyny prevalent in the society today.

Since ‘Ishq’ has an universal subject, the film is now getting remade in all major Indian languages. In Tamil, the makers have signed Kathir to reprise’s Shane’s character. The director’s name or other details are not yet known. Kathir, well known for his excellent performance in ‘Pariyerum Perumal’, looks like an ideal choice to replace Shane.

‘Ishq’ will also be remade in Hindi. Neeraj Pandey, the director of acclaimed films like ‘Special 26’ and ‘A Wednesday’, will be involved in the production side. More details are awaited.

Mammootty joins Kunchacko Boban, Joju George and Vinayakan in Pada!

We were among the first to report about Kunchacko Boban, Vinayakan, Joju George and Dileesh Pothan teaming up for a film titled ‘Pada’. Kamal KM is directing the film and it is produced under the banner of E4 Entertainment. Almost 80% of the film’s shoot got wrapped up in August itself. Interestingly, the team has now got a major addition to the cast. Megastar Mammootty has been signed to play a crucial role in the film. He is expected to start shooting for his portions very soon.

‘Pada’ marks director Kamal KM’s entry to Malayalam. His debut film ‘I.D’ made in Hindi was a widely acclaimed work that went on to be screened at various international film festivals across the world, which includes Busan International Film Festival, Abu Dhabi Film Festival, International Film Festival of India (IFFI), International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) and Deauville Asian Film Festival. Rajeev Ravi’a Collective Phase One had produced that film.

‘Pada’, scripted by Kamal himself, is based on a real-life incident that occured in Kerala during the 90s. The movie has cinematography by Sameer Thahir. More details are awaited.

Here’s the first look of Mammootty starrer One

As informed earlier, the much-awaited look of Mammootty’s character in his upcoming film ‘One’ has been unveiled. The star plays a Chief Minister’s role in the film. Santhosh Viswanath of ‘Chirakodinja Kinavukal’ fame is directing the film. It is a political drama scripted by Bobby-Sanjay and produced by Ichais Productions.

Mammootty is acting in a political drama after a long gap in Malayalam and hence there’s a lot of expectations on the film. His character in it is named as Kadakkal Chandran. Bobby-Sanjay have taken inspiration from some real life incidents to script this film. This is also the first time the duo is scripting a Mammootty starrer.

‘One’ has Murali Gopy and Joju George playing prominent roles as opposition leader and party secretary respectively. The film also has a big supporting cast comprising of Nimisha Sajayan, Ranjith, Mathew Thomas, Gayathri Arun, Balachandra Menon, Sudev Nair, Suresh Krishna, Salim Kumar, Shankar Ramakrishnan, Alencier Ley Lopez, Mamukoya, Balaji Sharma and many others.

Arya to star in Pa Ranjith’s boxing based film!

Arya and director Pa Ranjith are all set to team up for a boxing based film. Shoot for the same has been planned to commence next month. It is said to be a story set in North Chennai, a setting that the director had explored quite effectively in his 2014 film ‘Madras’. Though he was supposed to make a Hindi biopic on Mirsa Munda next but the project got postponed due to some unknown reasons.

Pa Ranjith has been planning to make this sports film for some time now. Just like Pa Ranjith’s earlier films, this one is also expected to deal with topics like oppression and discrimination that happens in the field of boxing. Arya’s extremely fit physique and his willingness to put the extra efforts makes him an ideal choice to play a boxer.

More details regarding the project are expected to be revealed in the coming days.

Jayalalithaa biopic: Watch the teaser of Thalaivi here!

As reported earlier, Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut is starring in the biopic of late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. The film titled as ‘Thalaivi’ is directed by AL Vijay. Its first looks poster and teaser just been released online. In the teaser, Kangana is seen in two different looks – one resembling Jayalalithaa in her younger days as an actor and the other in her overweight look as a politician.

‘Baahubali’ writer KV Vijayendra Prasad and Rajat Arora have jointly scripted ‘Thalaivi’. The story, which spans several decades, will shed light on Jayalalithaa’s early life as an actor in Tamil film industry and later becoming one of the most powerful political leaders in the country.

Along with Kangana, Arvind Swami is also playing in a major role as MGR in the film. It must be noted that MGR and Jayalalithaa were very close to each other right from their acting days. They had starred in several hit films between 1965 and 1973. Moreover, it was MGR who introduced Jayalalithaa to the world of politics. MGR became her mentor as she forayed into politics through his party.

‘Thalaivi’ has Vishal Vittal cranking the camera and music composed by GV Prakash. Vishnu Induri and Shaailesh R Singh are jointly producing the film.

‘Thalaivi’ is being made in Tamil as well as Hindi. There is also a dubbed version in Telugu. It is scheduled to hit screens worldwide on June 26, 2020.

Tamil superstar Vijay’s father SA Chandrasekaran is directing a new film with Jai in the lead. Titled as ‘Capmaari’, it is a rom-com entertainer. Athulya Ravi plays the female lead. The cast also includes Vaibhavi Shandilya, Siddharth Vipin, Sathyan, Devadharshini, Powerstar and many others.

‘Capmaari’ is the 70th film of veteran director SAC. He has made many hits in Tamil and Telugu like ‘Sattam Oru Iruttarai’, ‘Chattaniki Kallu Levu’, ‘Nyaya Ellide’, ‘Vetri’, ‘Naan Sigappu Manithan’, Sattam Oru Vilayaattu’, ‘Sendhoorapandi’, ‘Deva’, ‘Once More’ and ‘Nenjirukkum Varai’.

SAC has the story of ‘Capmaari’ and has collaborated with Jeevan and Madhan for the dialogues. It is also the 25th outing of lead actor Jai. The film has cinematography by Jeevan and music composed by Siddharth Vipin. GK Prasanna is handling the edits. Green Signal is producing the film. AK Sunil’s Surya Films is releasing it in Kerala.

Powerstar with Babu Antony will be a true-blue mass thriller: Omar Lulu

It was in June last year that Omar Lulu had announced a new project titled ‘Powerstar’ with Babu Antony. However, there has been no further updates about it since then. Omar also went ahead with another project titled ‘Dhamaka’. There were talks in social medias about ‘Powerstar’ getting shelved. However, the director has informed that the project is very much on and is most likely to be his next. According to him, it will be an out and out mass thriller and if all goes well, shoot will begin early next year.

Babu Antony is unarguably one of the biggest action heroes that Malayalam cinema has ever seen. There was a time in the 90s when his action flicks regularly gave tough competition to the superstar films. It will be really interesting to see how Omar Lulu presents the veteran in a full fledged mass flick.

Babu Antony was last seen in Malayalam in ‘Kayamkulam Kochunni’. He had recently played a crucial role in the Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Laxxmi Bomb’, which is the remake of Kanchana. Babu Antony also made his Hollywood debut recently with an action film titled ‘Bullets, Blades and Blood’.

As the release date is closing in, the makers of ‘Mamangam’ have been actively promoting the film. As part of that, a new song has been released online. It’s a lullaby song rendered by veteran Bombay Jayshri and set to tunes by M Jayachandran. Ajay Gopal has penned the lyrics.

‘Mamangam’ directed by M Padmakumar is an epic film made on a massive budget. As per the makers, it is a historic film with almost 80% of it being inspired from real events. Mammootty and Unni Mukundan play fearless warriors in the film. Child actor Achuthan plays another major role.

The cast also includes Kaniha, Anu Sithara, Prachi Tehlan, Siddique, Sudev Nair, Tarun Arora, Suresh Krishna, Manikuttan, Manikandan, Ineya and Sudheer Sukumaran. Venu Kunnappilly of Kavya Films is producing this big budget film. It is scheduled to hit screens worldwide on December 12. Apart from the Malayalam version, the dubbed Tamil, Telugu and Hindi versions will also be releasing simultaneously on the same day.

Dashamoolam Damu spin-off to begin early next year!

Dashamoolam Damu is easily among the most popular characters that Suraj Venjaramoodu has played in his career so far. The funny, crooked character from Mammootty starrer ‘Chattambinadu’ enjoys huge popularity thanks to the numerous trolls and meme images in social medias.

Dashamoolam Damu is now set to make a comeback. Benny P Nayarambalam and Shafi, the writer-director combo of ‘Chattambinadu’ is working on the spin-off now.
