‘Odiyan’ is a mythical concept that’s very popular in Kerala’s folklore. They are said to have inhabited the Malabar region of Kerala before the widespread use of electricity. There are a lot of stories and myths about Odiyans and their lives. It is believed that these men have shapeshifting abilities and can assume animal forms. Last year, VA Shrikumar made a film out of this concept with superstar Mohanlal in the lead. The film was released amidst unprecedented hype but failed to live up to the expectations.

Simultaneously a documentary on the lives of odiyans was also made. Titled as ‘Iravilum Pakalilum Odiyan’, the documentary has been selected for screening at the 50th edition of International Film Festival of India (IFFI), Goa. Mohanlal has shared its trailer through his social media handle and wished luck to all the team members.

Novin Vasudev has researched and directed ‘Iravilum Pakalilum Odiyan’. T Arun Kumar has penned its script is produced by La Productions. DOP Anantha Gopal, editor Sujir Babu and music director Charu Hariharan form the core technical team. It will be screened on 23rd November at 11.30 AM at the IFFI.

Thalapathy 64 first look to be released on New Year’s Day!

Shoot for ‘Thalapathy 64′ is currently progressing in New Delhi. Lokesh Kanagaraj is directing the film that boasts of a star-studded cast. Vijay Sethupathi, Antony Varghese, Malavika Mohanan, Shanthanu Bhagyaraj, Andrea Jeremiah and ’96’ fame Gouri G Kishan are also part of the film.

Latest buzz in social medias is that the first look poster of ‘Thalapathy 64’ will be unveiled on New Year’s Day. The makers are yet to confirm this but fans are already highly excited about it. Recently, a few of Vijay’s photos from the sets got leaked online. This probably has forced the makers to release the first look poster.

‘Thalapathy 64’ is expected to be a completely different film from the usual mass entertainers that Vijay does. Lokesh has scripted the film with additional screenplay by Pon Parthiban and ‘Aadai’ director Rathna Kumar. On the technical side, music is composed by Anirudh Ravichander and cinematography is by Sathyan Sooryan. Xavier Britto is producing the film, which is scheduled for summer release in 2020.

We had earlier reported about Shane Nigam teaming up with director Sajid Yahiya for a new film. Its title and first look poster has just been unveiled via social medias. Titled as ‘Qalb’, the film is said to be an emotional drama set in a coastal town. Sajid had previously directed ‘Inspector Dawood Ibrahim’ aka ‘IDI’ and ‘Mohanlal’.

For Qalb, Sajid has penned the story while and he has collaborated with Suhail Koya for screenplay. Sudeep Elamon of ‘Pathinettam Padi’ and ‘Finals’ fame is the DOP. From the posters, ‘Qalb’ looks like a musical. The makers have also got various composers on board. Prakash Alex, Vimal Nayar, Reneesh Basheer and Nihal Sadiq will be composing the songs. Prakash Alex is handling the background score.

Shane Nigam and Suraj Venjaramoodu to star in Venu’s next?

Two years since the release of his last film ‘Carbon’, it looks like Venu has decided to do back to back projects. He along with directors Jay K, Rajeev Ravi and Aashiq Abu are teaming up for an anthology film. Venu’s segment will have Parvathy and Asif Ali in the lead roles. Shoot for the same is scheduled to begin on the first week of December.

Apart from that, Venu is also planning a full length feature film. Shane Nigam and Suraj Venjaramoodu are most likely to play the lead roles. GR Indugopan, one of the most popular post-modern writers of Malayalam, is scripting the film. It is said to be a realistic thriller in which Shane plays the role of an IT professional. If things turn out as per plans, shoot will be commencing by April next year.

Both the lead actors, Shane Nigam and Suraj Venjaramoodu have multiple commitments before that. Shane has ‘Veyil’, ‘Qurbaani’, ‘Ullasam’, an untitled flick with Sajid Yahiya and a Tamil film with Seenu Ramasamy coming up. His next release will be ‘Valiya Perunnal’, scheduled for December 20.

Suraj, on the other hand, is fresh from the success of ‘Android Kunjappan’. His next to hit screens is ‘Driving Lincence’, which is also releasing on the same day as ‘Valiya Perunnal’.

Ellam Sheriyakum: Asif Ali and Rajisha Vijayan to star in Jibu Jacob’s next

After the superhit success of ‘Anuraga Karikkin Vellam’, Asif Ali and Rajisha Vijayan are all set to share screen space again. Jibu Jacob will be directing their new film, which has been titled as ‘Ellam Sheriyakum’. It is scripted by three newcomers Sharis, Shalbin and Nebin. Asif made the film’s official announcement last day through his social media handle.

The cinematographer-turned-filmmaker Jibu Jacob made his directorial debut with the surprise blockbuster ‘Vellimoonga’. He then did ‘Munthirivallikal Thalirkunnilla’ with superstar Mohanlal, which was also a big hit. Last month, the director’s third film ‘Adhyarathri’ got released and it is still continuing at a few centres.

‘Ellam Sheriyakum’ will be Jibu Jacob’s second film with Asif he had played a cameo role in ‘Vellimoonga. It is being produced by Thomas Thiruvalla and Dr Paul Varghese under the banner of Dr Paul’s Entertainment. The film’s core technical team comprises of DoP Sreejith Nair, music director Ouseppachan and editor Sooraj ES

Mamta Mohandas replaces Rima Kallingal in Bhadran’s Joothan

It was earlier announced that veteran director would be teaming up with Joju George, Soubin Shahir and Rima Kallingal for a film titled ‘Joothan’. But latest reports suggest that Mamta Mohandas has replaced Rima Kallingal in the film. The exact reason for Rima not being a part of the project is not yet known.

‘Joothan’ is scripted by S Suresh Babu, who has earlier written films like ‘Nadan’, ‘Shikkar’ and ‘Kanal’. It is said to be a psychological thriller with mystery elements in it. Soubin is playing a very challenging role in the film. Joju George will be seen as a police officer. Joy Mathew and Indrans are also part of the cast.

Cinematographer Lokanadhan S, National award winning production designer Vinesh Banglan and talented young composer Sushin Shyam are part of the technical crew. Pattathanam and Jayant Mammen are jointly producing the film under the banner of Ruby Films.

Manju Warrier’s Prathi Poovankozhi confirmed for Christmas release!

Manju Warrier’s new film with Rosshan Andrrews, which has been titled as ‘Prathi Poovankozhi’, has also joined the list of films releasing for Christmas. Last day, Manju took to her social media handle to announce that the film will be hitting screens on December 20. First look poster will be out on November 20, followed by a single release.

‘Prathi Poovankozhi’ scripted by Unni R is actually based on one of the writer’s short stories of the same name. The original story is actually a satire that looks into the current socio-political setting from a different perspective. The film adaptation has Manju Warrier and Ansuree playing the roles of sales girls working in a textile shop.

Director Rosshan Andrrews is making his acting debut with this ‘Prathi Poovankozhi’. Though the makers had approached few other actors, nothing fell in place. Rosshan eventually decided to take up the role with the support of his writer Unni R. He will be seen playing a negative role in the film.

‘Kumbalangi Nights’ fame Grace Antony, Saiju Kurup, Alencier Ley Lopez and ‘Marimayam’ Sreekumar are also part of the cast. G Balamurugan is the cinematographer and Gopi Sunder is handling the music department. The film is being produced by Gokulam Gopalan under the banner of Sri Gokulam Films.

Suriya’s ‘Soorarai Pottru’ is a film that’s eagerly awaited by many, including fans as well as common cine lovers. The film directed by Sudha Kongara of ‘Irudhi Suttru’ fame is currently in the post-production phase. For the last few months, music director GV Prakash has been busy with the composings. He recently got lead actor Suriya to record a rap song. The track is titled as ‘Maara Theme’. This marks Suriya’s first time collaboration with GV Prakash and also his first attempt in singing a rap track.

GV Prakash has pinned high hopes on ‘Soorarai Pottru’. The film has a lot of scope for music and he started composing for nearly a year back. He has recorded a couple of songs with Kerala-based indie rock band ‘Thaikkudam Bridge’ and ‘Agam’ fame Harish Sivaramakrishnan.

‘Soorarai Pottru’ scripted jointly by Shalini Usha Nair and Sudha Kongara is loosely based on the life of GR Gopinath, the founder of Air Deccan, who is also a retired captain of the Indian army. Malayali actress Aparna Balamurali plays the female lead. Paresh Rawal, Jackie Shroff and Mohan Babu will also be seen in prominent roles.

Sikhya Entertainment is producing the film jointly with Suriya’s own production house, 2D Entertainment. The makers are eyeing a Pongal release, in January next year.

Shoot for Aamir Khan’s new film ‘Lal Singh Chaddha’ started only recently. Advait Chandan of ‘Secret Superstar’ fame is directing the film, which is the official remake of widely acclaimed American film ‘Forrest Gump’. The film’s first look has been released and it features Aamir Khan sporting a turban and a long beard. Kareena Kapoor plays the female lead in the film.

‘Forrest Gump’ starring Tom Hanks is a Hollywood classic that got released in 1994. It is a comedy drama based on the novel of the same name by Winston Groom. The film was directed by Robert Zemeckis and written by Eric Roth. It had won six Academy Awards for best picture, best director, best actor, best adapted screenplay, best visual effects and best film editing.
