Jayasurya wins Best Actor award at Indian Film Festival Cincinnati

Malayalam actor Jayasurya has won the Best Actor award at the Indian Film Festival Cincinnati for his performance as a trans woman in ‘Njan Marykutty’. The actor took to his official social media handle to share the news. He also thanked the film’s director Ranjith Sankar, crew members and the audience for supporting him.

So Happy and Proud to share that I have been selected as the ‘ Best Actor ‘ For the Indian Film Festival Cincinnati (USA), for the Movie “Njan Mary Kutty” – one of the toughest and most challenging characters in my career. Thank you my dear Ranjith sankar and the entire cast and crew, my Marykuttees and all of you..

‘Njan Marykutty’, which hit screens last year, is a film inspired from a real person. It is the story of a transgender woman’s attempt to realize her true orientation in a society that stigmatizes gender transformation. Jayasurya’s stellar performance as Marykutty was widely appreciated and the Kerala State award jury considered it along with his act in ‘Captian’ while honouring him with the best actor award.

Kettyolaanu Ente Malakha will be the best film in Asif Ali’s career, claims Listin Stephen

Last day, the production house, ‘Magic Frames’ organised a three-film event at IMA Hall, Kochi. The audio launch of ‘Kettyolaanu Ente Malakha’, the success celebration of ‘Brother’s Day’ event and the announcement of a new film was held together on the same stage.

‘Kettyolaanu Ente Malakha’ stars Asif Ali and Venna Nandakumar of ‘Kadam Kadha’ fame in the lead roles. As the title suggests, it is a family drama centred around a newly wed couple. The film has a bunch of newcomers behind the camera, which includes director Nisam Basheer, script writer Aji Peter and composer William Francis.

Speaking at the event, everyone seemed very confident about how ‘Kettyolaanu Ente Malakha’ has shaped up. Producer Listin Stephen claimed that it will be the best film in Asif Ali’s career while the star proudly declared that it’s also the best crew that he has worked with so far. Prithviraj, who along with Kunchacko Boban, launched the audio, said that he was highly impressed by the base story of ‘Kettyolaanu Ente Malakha’ when he first heard it from Listin and later from Asif.

With back to back hits and excellent performances, Asif Ali has been in great form this year. He will be hoping to continue the successful run with ‘Kettyolaanu Ente Malakha’. The film is scheduled to hit screens later this month.

Dulquer Salmaan’s maiden production titled ‘Maniyarayile Ashokan’

As reported by us earlier, Dulquer Salmaan’s maiden film as a producer has his best friend Jacob Gregory in the lead. ‘Premam’ fame Anupama Parameswaran, Anu Sithara, Shritha Sivadas, Nayana Elza, Krishna Shankar and many others are part of the cast. Last day, Dulquer announced the film’s title officially through his production house Wayfarer Films’ social media handle.

Titled as ‘Maniyarayile Ashokan’, the film has a bunch of newcomers behind the camera. Debutant Shamsu Zayba is directing the movie and it is scripted by Vineeth Krishnan. The film has cinematography by Sajad Kakku, music composed by Sreehari K Nair and edits by Appu N Bhattathiri.

Announcing the film, Dulquer wrote on his social media handle,

Here is the title poster for Wayfarer Films Production number one. “ Maniyarayile Ashokan”. It’s a special film and we are introducing 5 technicians with the film. It’s important for me to introduce new talent. Debutant Director Shamzu Zayba, Debutant DoP Sajad Kakku, Debutant Writers Vineeth Krishnan & Magesh Boji, Debutant music director Sreehari K Nair, debutant still photographer Shuhaib SBk. It’s a sweet and fun idea and we’ve put in everything to make sure it translates to that on screen. A big shoutout to Ramesh Pisharody for suggesting the name.

As reported by us earlier, Vineeth Sreenivasan is set to direct a film with Pranav Mohanlal and Kalyani Priyadarshan in the leads. Antony Perumbavoor will be producing the film under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas. We hear that Vineeth has already signed the dotted lines and full fledged shoot has been planned to commence early next year.

Meanwhile, there is an exciting buzz going around in social medias that this new film will be a sequel to the 1988 classic ‘Chithram’. Ace filmmaker Priyadarshan wrote and directed the film that had superstar Mohanlal in the lead. Sreenivasan also played a major role in it. If the news about the sequel is indeed true, it will be a second generation reunion of sorts.

Needless to say, Vineeth Sreenivasan will be shouldering a huge burden of expectations as ‘Chithram’ is widely regarded as one of the biggest ever blockbusters in Malayalam cinema. Not just Vineeth, new gen actors Pranav and Kalyani, who both are still trying to find their feet in the field of cinema, will be facing a lot of expectations and comparisons are also bound to be there.

For now, let’s just wait for an official confirmation to see they are really planning a sequel to ‘Chithram’.

The directorial debut of veteran filmmaker Sathyan Anthikad’s son, Anoop Sathyan went on floors recently in Chennai. Dulquer Salmaan, Suresh Gopi, Shobhana and Kalyani Priyadarshan play the lead roles in the film. Dulquer’s banner Wayfarer Films and M Star Communications are jointly producing the film.

Dulquer Salmaan and Kalyni and already started shooting for their portions while Suresh Gopi joined the sets last day. The veteran actor sports a salt and pepper look in the film. Interestingly, this is his his first Malayalam in four years and hence it marks his comeback of sorts. Suresh Gopi has acted with Mammootty numerous times in the past. So it will be quite an exciting scenario to watch him share screen space with Mammootty’s son, Dulquer Salmaan.

Scripted by Anoop Sathyan himself, this upcoming film is said to be a family drama centred around two women. Along with a stellar star cast, Anoop has also assembled a strong technical crew. Mukesh Muraleedharan of ‘Uyare’ fame is cranking the camera and music department will be handled by Alphonse. Others in the crew include production designer Dino Shankar, editor Toby John, costume designer Uthara Menon, and lyricist Santhosh Varma.

Release date confirmed for Mammootty’s Mamangam

The wait for ‘Mamangam’ will come to end next month as the makers have announced that the film will be hitting screens on November 21. ‘Mamangam’ is one of the most awaited films of the year that’s eagerly awaited, not just by the fans but by cinephiles as well. Besides Malayalam, the film will be releasing in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi as well. After the excellent response to the Malayalam teaser, the makers have planned to release the other language teasers today.

‘Mamangam’ is directed by M Padmakumar. As per the makers, it is a historic film with almost 80% of it being inspired from real events. Its original director Sajeev Pillai penned the script after an extensive research of over 12 years. Shankar Ramakrishnan later adapted the screenplay. The film is based on the religious festival, Mamangam, that took place every 12 years in a place called Thirunavaya, on the banks of Bharathapuzha, for over 280 years.

Along with Mammootty, ‘Mamangam’ also stars Unni Mukundan in a very prominent role as Chandroth Panicker. Others in the cast include Kaniha, Anu Sithara, Prachi Tehlan, Siddique, Sudev Nair, Tarun Arora, Suresh Krishna, Mani Kuttan, Manikandan, Ineya and Sudheer Sukumaran. The film also boasts of a strong technical crew comprising of State award winning cinematographer Manoj Pillai, veteran music director M Jayachandran and art director Mohandas. Bollywood-based composer Sanchit Balhara is handling the background score.

‘Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy’ has taken a phenomenal opening at the box office. As per collection reports, the film has grossed Rs 81.40 crores from the worldwide box office. The first day share alone accounts to around Rs 51.88 crores. In India alone, the film has grossed Rs 68.0 crore with a share of Rs 45.68 crore.

‘Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy’ hit screens worldwide in four languages – Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi. As per initial reports, the film has managed to live up to the tremendous pre-release hype. The epic period film directed by Surender Reddy is based on late freedom fighter Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy, who fought the British valiantly much before the Sepoy Mutiny.

The long wait for ‘Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy’ finally came to an end today as it hit screens worldwide in four languages – Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi. As per initial reports, the film has managed to live up to the tremendous pre-release expectations. The epic period film directed by Surender Reddy is based on late freedom fighter Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy, who fought the British valiantly much before the Sepoy Mutiny.

While Chiranjeevi plays the titular role, the film’s massive star cast also includes popular stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, Tamannaah, Ravi Kishan, Niharika, Jagapathi Babu, Brahmaji and Kiccha Sudeep. SS Rajamouli, the visionary filnmaker who made the ‘Baahubali’s series has showered praise on Chiranjeevi and the whole team of ‘Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy’. His Facebook post reads,

We were among the first to report about the directorial debut of veteran filmmaker Sathyan Anthikad’s son, Anoop Sathyan. Dulquer Salmaan, Suresh Gopi, Shobhana and Kalyani Priyadarshan are playing the lead roles in the film. Shoot for the same commenced last day in Chennai. Dulquer, who is also producing the film under his banner Wayfarer Films, took to his official social media handle to share the news and photos from the first day’s shoot.

Scripted by Anoop himself, the film is said to be a family drama centred around two women. Anoop has assembled a stellar star cast and that itself heightens the expectations. On the technical side, Mukesh Muraleedharan of ‘Uyare’ fame will be cranking the camera and music department will be handled by Alphonse. Others in the technical crew include production designer Dino Shankar, editor Toby John, costume designer Uthara Menon, and lyricist Santhosh Varma.
