Vidya Balan to play Indira Gandhi in an upcoming web series

For a while now, there have been reports about a biopic getting ready for former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. It has now been confirmed that Ritesh Batra will be make a web series based on the late leader’s life. Vidya Balan will be playing Indira Gandhi’s part in it. This marks Vidya’s debut in the web series arena.

Apparently, Vidya has bought the rights to journalist Sagarika Ghose’s book Indira: India’s Most Powerful Prime Minister on which the series will be based. Since the evnetful life of Indira Gandhi could not be confined to a three-hour feature film, they opted to make it as web series.

Vidya is quoted saying, “There is too much material for it be made into a film. So, we decided to turn it into a web series. We don’t know how many seasons we will be allotting to it. We are in the process of putting together a team.”

Ritesh Bara is a director well-known for helming acclaimed films like ‘The Lunchbox’ and ‘Photograph’. It will be interesting to see how Batra moulds himself to direct a web series that too based on one of the most powerful political leaders that the country has ever seen.

In a career spanning over forty years, director Joshiy has seen several highs and lows. Though he predominantly worked in Malayalam, Joshiy has also directed a few hit films in Hindi and Tamil. Forget about working with big stars, it was Joshiy who was instrumental in elevating most of them to the superstar status. While almost all his contemporary filmmakers have waned out, the veteran is still trying to reinvent himself. If the trailer of his new film, ‘Porinju Mariam Jose’ is anything to go by, Joshiy still has it in him to give the new gen filmmakers a run for their money.

‘Porinju Mariam Jose’ is hitting screens tomorrow (August 23) and everyone is eager to see what the master has in store this time. His last few films have been failures, so that makes the scenario even bigger. Starring Joju George, Chemban Vinod Jose and Nyla Usha in the lead roles, ‘Porinju Mariam Jose’ is expected to be a well packaged mass-entertainer — a genre that is slowly diminishing in Malayalam.

Abilash N Chandran has scripted the film that is set in Thrissur of the 80s. Like the yesteryear Joshiy films, it has a huge set of supporting actors and has all the vibes of an action-packed mass flick. Its elaborate cast comprises of Kalabhavan Niyas, Jayaraj Warrier, Sudhi Koppa, IM Vijayan, Rahul Madhav, Anil Nedumangad, Salim Kumar, Nandu, Sinoj, TG Ravi, Vijayaraghavan, Maala Parvathy, Swasika and Malavika Menon.

On the technical front, Joshiy has assembled a set of young but highly promising team. Ajai David Kachappilly has cranked the camera and music is by Jakes Bejoy. Shyam Sasidharan has done the edits. Rejimon is producing the movie under the banner of Keerthy Movies.

Dabangg 3 to release in Hindi, Kannada, Tamil and Telugu; Release date announced

Salman Khan’s ‘Dabaang’ is one of the most popular franchises in Bollywood. Salman plays an eccentric cop named Chulbul Pandey in the series. After the superhit success of the first two parts, the third installment is now getting ready. Actor-choreographer Prabhudeva is directing the movie, which is expected to be an out and out mass action-packed entertainer just on the lines of the first two parts. It has been announced that ‘Dabaang’ will be hitting screens worldwide on December 20, 2019. Besides the original Hindi version, the movie will also be releasing in Tamil, Telugu and Kannada languages.

This is Salman’s second film with Prabhudeva. They had earlier worked together in 2009 for the blockbuster movie ‘Wanted’. Prabhudeva has also made other mass entertainers in Bollywood like ‘Rowdy Rathore’, ‘R… Rajkumar’, ‘Ramaiya Vastavaiya’, ‘Action Jackson’ and ‘Singh is Bling’.

‘Dabaang 3’ has Salman Khan reprising Chulbul Pandey’s role. Sonakshi Sinha and Kannada actor Sudeep are also part of the cast. As oer the makers, it is more of a prequel that will show how Pandey became the Robinhood like cop. Salman is quoted saying, “The story starts in the present and then it goes back to the past, and then comes back to the present day again. It will have a prequel portion, but only as a flashback.” It is being produced by Salman Khan Films and Arbaaz Khan Productions.

Debutant director RK Ajay Kumar’s ‘Isakkinte Ithihasam’ is gearing up for release. The makers have announced that the movie will be hitting screens on August 30, Friday. With a huge set of actors, the movie is touted to be a proper entertainer appealing to all groups of audience. Ayyappan R has produced the film under the banner of Uma Maheshwara Creations.

‘Issakinte Ithihasam’ stars Siddique, Bhagath Manuel, Kalabhavan Shajohn, Ambika Mohan, Geetha Vijayan Sona, Sreejith Ravi, Kottayam Pradeep, Aristo Suresh, Anjali Nair, Nazir Sankranthi, Saju Navodaya, Jaffer Idukki, Ashokan, Nelson, Pauly Valsan and several others.

Subash and RK Ajayakumar have jointly penned the screenplay. Cinematography is by TD Sreenivas and Shamjith Muhammed has done the edits. Music department is handled by Gopi Sunder. The promos, which include the teaser and trailer, have all been promising. The movie is hence expected to have a decent run at the box office.

Amidst high expectations, ‘Porinju Mariam Jose’, the comeback film of master filmmaker Joshiy is set to hit screens tomorrow (August 23, Friday). Today, the movie is also having its world premiere at Dubai. Starring Joju George, Chemban Vinod and Nyla Usha in the lead roles, this movie is expected to be a commercial mass entertainer. The already released highly impressive trailer and songs promised the same.

‘Porinju Mariam Jose’ has Joju, Nyla and Chemban Vinod playing the titular roles. Nyla calls it a dream come true moment to act in a film directed by Joshiy. According to her, it’s a dream for every actor to work with someone like Joshiy, who has been in the film industry for nearly four decades. Nyla Usha plays Alappat Mariyam, a character that is in stark contrast to the ones she has done before.

Padavettu has Nivin Pauly playing a kind of role he has not done before!

Recently, it was announced that Nivin Pauly would be starring in a movie titled ‘Padavettu’. Debutant Liju Krishna is directing the movie, which marks the maiden feature film production of actor Sunny Wayne. Shoot for the movie is slated to begin from the next month. Majority of the portions would be shot in Kannur and nearby areas.

Interestingly, ‘Padavettu’ will have Nivin Pauly in a kind of role that he has not done before. It is likely to be challenging role and the audience can expect to see a different side of the actor. Director Liju Krishna himself has scripted the film. Though he had previously directed a play titled ‘Moment Just Before Death’, ‘Padavettu’ marks his feature film debut.

Deepak D Menon will be cranking the camera and edits will be handle by Shefeek Muhammed Ali. The makers have signed Govind Vasantha to compose music for the movie. ‘Padavettu’ is his comeback film to Malayalam after he struck gold with sensational success of ’96’.

As the movie gets ready for release, the makers have released a few new stills featuring the two actors. As reported by us earlier, the movie has Mohanlal playing the role of Indian Prime Minister. His character named as Chandrakanth Varma is said to be a grey-shaded role. Suriya plays the role of a high-rank National Security Guard (NSG) officer, who is in charge of the PM’s security.

Mammootty, Vijay Sethupathi and Nayanthara to team up

If reports are believed, a huge multi-starrer is currently being planned in the South. Mammootty, Vijay Sethupathi and Nayanthara are likely to to team up for a Tamil-Malayalam bilingual. Debutant Vipin will be directing the film. Though an official word is yet to be made, it is said that shoot will be commencing this year itself. The three stars have not acted together before and it will be nothing short of a treat if the project materializes.

Mammootty is currently shooting for ‘Shylock’ directed by Ajai Vasudev. His next release will be ‘is simultaneously shooting for ‘Ganagandharavan’, scheduled to hit screens by the end of next month. ‘Mamangam’ with M Padmakumar, ‘Ameer’ with Vinod Vijayan, ‘Bilal’ with Amal Neerad and ‘One’ scripted by Bobby-Sanjay are his other upcoming projects.

Vijay Sethupathi also has several projects lined up. ‘Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy’, ‘Kadaisi Vivasayi’, ‘Maamanithan’, ‘Sanga Tamizhan’ and ‘Laabam’ are some of his films in the pipeline. Nayanthara is also occupied with multiple projects in her kitty. She is part of Vijay-Atlee team’s ‘Thalapathy 63’, Rajinikanth’s ‘Darbar’ and Chiranjeevi’s ‘Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy’. Her Malayalam film ‘Love Action Drama’ in which she shares screen space with Nivin Pauly is slated for next month as an Onam release.

Thanneer Mathan Dhinangal team to reunite!

Teenage-romantic comedy ‘Thanneer Mathan Dinangal’ (TMD) is turning out to be quite a sensation in the box office. Directed by debutant Girish AD, the movie has a bunch of lesser known faces and Vineeth Sreenivasan in major roles. However, the absence of big stars have not affected the movie in any way as it has already become one of the biggest blockbusters in recent years. ‘TMD’ was the maiden venture of Plan J Studios, which is headed by Jomon T John and Shameer Muhammed. The duo produced the movie jointly with Shebin Becker Productions.

As per latest reports, Plan J Studios’ next film be directed by Dinoy Paulose, the co-writer of ‘TMD’. He is also playing the lead role in the film, which is yet-to-be titled. Besides scripting, Dinoy had also acted in ‘TMD’. His performance as the protagonist’s brother, Joyson, was noted by many.

Dinoy’s directorial debut will also mark the reunion of the same set of technicians from TMD. Cinematography will be done by Jomon T John, music by Justin Varghese and edits by Shameer Muhammed. More details regarding the supporting cast and when shoot begins will be announced shortly.

Manju Warrier and Kayyattam crew rescued back to safety

Recently, actress Manju Warrier and the crew of her new movie ‘Kayattam’ got stranded in the flood-hit remote areas of Himachal Pradesh. Series of flash floods and landslides blocked the roads. News reached back home only when Manju called her brother Madhu Warrier from a satellite phone to inform about their situation. Timely intervention from the Kerala government, Union Minister V Muraleedharan and Himachal Pradesh government has now helped the crew return back to safety.

Manju Warrier took to her social media handle to inform that they have reached Manali safely. Along with thanking the authorities for their efforts, she also thanked everyone for the prayers and concern. Her Facebook post reads,

Very happy and relieved to inform all of you that me and the entire team of the movie “Kayattam” by Sanalkumar Sasidharan reached back safe by midnight in Manali and are completely safe now after being stranded for six days in the regions of Shiyagoru and Chhatru in Himachal Pradesh due to snowfall and landslides. Thanks to all the big hearts who swiftly and responsibly executed the rescue operations. And thanks to the care, concern, love and prayers from each one of you. Was shocked to hear about the floods in Kerala. I hope we all stay together in this like last year.

Manju Warrier and Kayyattam crew rescued back to safety

The crew of ‘Kayattam’ got stranded in a flood-hit village, Chhattru, which is located on the road to Spiti Valley from Manali, about 80 km away. The place remained cut off from the main transportation channels because of the heavy landslips in Uttarakhand. As many as 63 people have lost their lives in Himachal Pradesh this year due to heavy rains and flooding in the monsoon season.
