Black Coffee: Sunny Wayne to star in Baburaj’s next directorial

We had earlier reported about Baburaj directing the spin-off of 2011 hit film ‘Salt N Pepper’. Titled as ‘Black Coffee’, the new film will have Baburaj, Lal, Shweta Menon and Mythili reprising their roles from the original. Sunny Wayne will be playing the male lead. Rachana Narayanankutty, Lena, Oviya and newcomer Orma Bose are also part of the cast.

‘Black Coffee’ has Sunny Wayne playing the role of an aspiring filmmaker, named Davis. Oviya will be seen as his romantic interest. She essays the role of an American Malayali who lands in Kochi to make it big in the world of cinema. Apparently, all characters in the film have equal importance. Baburaj plays the cook Babu, who moves out of Kalidas’ (Lal) home after his marriage to Maya (Shweta Menon).

‘Black Coffee’ is scripted by Baburaj himself. Sajeesh Manjeri is producing the movie, which is slated to hit screens for Onam.

Rana Daggubati to produce Muttiah Muralitharan biopic starring Vijay Sethupathi

Recently, we had reported about legendary Sri Lankan cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan getting a biopic. Tamil star Vijay Sethupathi is playing Murali’s part in it. The movie which is said to be titled as ‘800’ will be directed by MS Sripathi. Telugu actor Rana Daggubati’s banner Suresh Productions will be producing the movie in association with DAR Motion Pictures

Muttiah Muralitharan is unarguably one of the greatest spinners in cricket history. A Tamilian by birth, Murali was born and brought up in Sri Lanka. He made his cricketing debut in 1992 and played for Sri Lanka till 2011. Even after eight years from his retirement, he still holds the world record for the most number of wickets in both test (800) and one-day cricket (534).

Murali’ biopic starring Vijay Sethupathi will be made in Tamil and released in several other languages. It has been planned to be shot in India, England, Srilanka and a couple of other countries. Shoot will be starting this year itself and the makers are eyeing a late 2020 release.

Thala 60: Ajith’s next after Nerkonda Paarvai to start rolling next month

As reported by us earlier, Ajith will be teaming up with director H Vinoth once again after ‘Nerkonda Paarvai’. Bollywood based producer Boney Kapoor and Zee Studios are jointly producing the movie, which is tentatively titled as Thala 60. Boney Kapoor has announced that shoot will begin by August end with an auspicious pooja ceremony.

Boney Kapoor’s tweet reads,

While ‘Nerkonda Paarvai’ was a remake, H Vinoth’s next with Ajith will have a fresh subject. It is said to be planned as an action packed thriller. Reports suggest that Ajith plays a bike racer in the film. Earlier in an interview, Boney Kapoor had revealed that the film will capitalize on Ajith’s love for racing. The movie is expected to be shot in exotic locations in Budapest, South Africa and the Middle East. More details are expected to be officially announced shortly.

Meanwhile, ‘Nerkonda Paarvai’, the Tamil remake of ‘Pink’ is gearing up to hit screens worldwide on August 10.

For the last couple of weeks, the makers of ‘Margamkali’ have been releasing songs from the movie, which has helped a great deal in publicising the movie online. A new track has dropped in today. Starring Bibin George and Namitha in the lead roles, the movie is touted be a complete fun filled entertainer. Sreejith Vijayan of ‘Kuttanadan Marapapa’ fame is directing the movie.

‘Margamkali’ has a big supporting cast comprising of ’96’ fame Gouri R Kishan, Dharmajan, Baiju, Hareesh Kanaran, Surabhi Santhosh, Shanthi Krishna, Siddique, Soumya Menon, Bindu Panicker and many others. Story and screenplay is penned by debutant Shashankan, while dialogues are written by lead actor Bibin himself.

On the technical front, Arvind Krishna has handled the camera and music is by Gopi Sunder. Johnkutty is in charge of the editing department. The movie is being produced jointly by Alwin Antony and Listin Stephen under the banners of Magic Frames and Ananya Films. The movie is slated to hit screens next month.

Akshay Kumar is doing a fine job in finding a balance between mass masala films and content oriented ones. After a string of movies based on real life incidents or personalities, the actor is now back to what he is doing best at – action. He has ‘Suryavanshi’ with Rohit Shetty and ‘Bachchan Pandey’ with Farhad Samji coming up.

Big news is that Akshay has also signed for the remake of Tamil star Vijay’s blockbuster film ‘Kaththi’. Jagan Shakti, the director of Akshay’s forthcoming film ‘Mission Mangal’, will be helming the remake. The Hindi version has been titled as ‘Ikka’ and like Vijay in the original, Akshay will be playing a dual role. More details regarding the technical crew and when shoot begins will be announced shortly.

‘Kaththi’ released in 2014 was directed by AR Murugadoss. It deals with the farmers plight in Tamil Nadu and how Vijay’s dual characters fight against the corporate giants. The movie was a huge success, both critically and commercially. The makers of the remake version will be hoping to repeat the same.

Director Jagan Shakti was a former associate of AR Murugadoss. So he must he getting some valuable guidance from his mentor. Akshay also has a good rapport with ARM as they have worked together in ‘Holiday’, which was the remake of ‘Thuppakki’, also a Vijay starrer.

It was earlier announced that veteran director will be helming a film titled ‘Joothan’ with Joju George, Soubin Shahir and Rima Kallingal in the lead roles. S Suresh Babu, who has penned films like ‘Nadan’, ‘Shikkar’ and ‘Kanal’, is scripting this upcoming movie as well. Interestingly, the movie is based on some real life incidents. It is a psychological thriller with mystery elements in it.

Soubin plays the lead role of Eo Eliyavu Kohan, someone who gets married to a popular actress. Post their marriage, he comes upon certain startling revelations and that’s how the plot evolves. Rima Kallingal was supposed to the cine star’s role, but it is said that the actress has opted out of the film. The news is yet to be confirmed. Joju George will be seen as a police officer in the film.

The makers have also revealed that ‘Joothan’ is not the original title of the film. Apparently, it is just a working title and original title will be announced only before the movie’s release. Cinematographer Lokanadhan S and talented young composer Sushin Shyam are part of the technical crew. Ruby Films is presenting the movie, shoot for which is scheduled to commence this year itself.

Veteran director Joshiy’s comeback film ‘Porinju Mariam Jose’ is getting ready for release on August 15. The movie’s official trailer will be released this coming Friday (August 2). A trailer launch event has been planned to be held at Lulu Mall, Kochi. Superstar Mohanlal will be the chief guest at the event.

‘Porinju Mariam Jose’ has Joju George, Nyla Usha and Chemban Vinod Jose playing the titular roles. The movie scripted by Abilash N Chandran is a Thrissur-based mass entertainer that is set in the 80s. There is also an elaborate supporting cast comprising of IM Vijayan, Rahul Madhav, Anil Nedumangad, Salim Kumar, Nandu, TG Ravi, Vijayaraghavan, Maala Parvathy, Swasika, Malavika Menon, Kalabhavan Niyas, Jayaraj Warrier and Sudhi Koppa.

Ajai David Kachappilly has cranked the camera and music is composed by Jakes Bejoy. Shyam Sasidharan is handling the edits. Rejimon is producing the movie under the banner of Keerthy Movies.

Suresh Gopi to star in Nithin Renji Panicker’s next after Kasaba

For over the past one year or so, there have been reports about ‘Kasaba’ fame Nithin Renji Panicker helming the sequel of Suresh Gopi’s yesteryear blockbuster ‘Lelam’. Renji Panciker, who penned the original, was scripting the sequel as well. However, it is now being reported that the project has been shelved for now and instead Suresh Gopi-Nithin team will be collaborating for another film.

Nithin himself is scripting his yet-to-be titled sophomore film, which will also have Lal in a major role. It will be produced by MK Nasser under the banner of Goodline Entertainments. Apparently, it is an Idukki based film that will have both Suresh Gopi and Lal in equally important roles.

National award winner Nikhil S Praveen, noted for his work in Jayaraj’s highly acclaimed films ‘Bhayanakam’, will be cranking the camera. Casting and other pre-production works are progressing in full swing and the makers are planning to start shooting from August end.

Suresh Gopi has also committed for veteran Sathyan Anthikad’s son Anoop Sathyan’s directorial debut. Shobhana and Nazriya Nazim are also part of the film, shoot for which is also scheduled to begin this year itself.

Runner up of the inaugural edition of Big Boss Malayalam, Pearle Maaney is set to expand her wings as she has bagged a dream debut project in Bollywood. She is making her entry to Hindi film industry with a new film directed by Anurag Basu. It is a star-studded biggie that has Abhisek Bachchan and Adity Roy Kapoor playing the lead roles. Others in the cast include Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, Sanya Malhotra, Fatima Sana Sheikh and Rohit Sharath.

Anurag Basu is an acclaimed filmmakar, well known for helming films like ‘Life In a Metro’, ‘Gangster’ and ‘Barfi’. His new multi-starrer film is said to be a dark comedy. It is being produced by the director along with Bhushan Kumar, Divya Khosla Kumar, Tani Somarita Basu and Krishnan Kumar.

News is coming in that Pranav Mohanlal is set to play the lead in Vineeth Sreenivasan’s next directorial venture. Keerthy Suresh is in talks to play the female lead in the movie. Though the genre and other details regarding the project is not yet known, fans are already excited about it. An official announcement is expected to be made very soon.

Though Keerthy Suresh started her acting career in Malayalam, it has been a long while since she did a film in her home industry. The pretty actress was last seen in Ring Master, which was released in 2014. Earlier this year, she had acted in Priyadarshan’s period flick ‘Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham’, which also had Pranav in a cameo role. Whether they both shared screen space will only be known after the movie’s release.

Pranav and Keerthy have been friends since childhood, thanks to their celebrity parents. So, it will be interesting to see together on screen.
