Of late, Bollywood has been more interested in making biopics and real-life inspired films. ‘Mission Mangal’ is the latest such film. Based on Mangalyaan, India’s first interplanetary mission to reach the Mars orbit, the movie is directed by Jagan Shakti. It boasts of a star-studded cast lead by Akshay Kumar. Vidya Balan, Nithya Menen, Tapsee Pannu, Sonakshi Sinha, Sharman Joshi and Kirti Kulhari will be seen in other prominent roles.

As per the makers, ‘Mission Mangal’ is the incredible, true story of a scientist, Rakesh Dhawan, played by Akshay Kumar and Tara Shinde, played by Vidya Balan, who lead a team of scientists who overcame their personal challenges and failures to serve as the brains behind one of the greatest space missions in history – the launch of India’s first satellite to Mars.

Interestingly, director Jagan Shakti initially had Mohanlal and Sridevi in his mind but the roles eventually went to Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan. Likewise, Manju Warrier was the first choice for the character done by Nithya Menen. Jagan revealed these interesting tidbits during a recent interview with a Malayalam media.

The trailer and promo videos of ‘Mission Mangal’ has got great response. The movie is getting ready to hit screens worldwide on the occasion of Independence Day on August 15.

The makers of ‘Jack Daniel’ have announced that its first look poster will be out tomorrow evening (July 27) at 6 PM. The movie directed by SL Puram Jayasurya has Dileep and Arjun in the lead roles. The two actors are coming together for the first time and that’s the movie’s biggest selling point. It is shaping up as an action packed thriller.

The movie has Dileep as a robber named Jack and Arjun playing a CBI officer named Daniel. Apparently, it is a thrilling cat and mouse story between these two characters. Anju Kurian of ‘Njan Prakashan’ fame plays the female lead. Saiju Kurup, Devan, Innocent, Janaradhanan, Ashokan, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Aju Varghese are also part of the cast.

‘Jack Daniel’ has cinematography by Sivakumar Vijayan, who has cranked camera for Tamil films like ‘NGK’, ‘Iraivi’ and ‘Irudhi Suttru’. Gopi Sunder handles the music department. Since the movie has high prominence to action, the makers have hired the services of five stunt choreographers, which includes popular names like Peter Hein, Kanal Kannan, Mafia Sasi and Supreme Sundar.

Shibu Thameens of Thameens Films is producing the film.

Akshay Kumar seems to be trying to attain a fine balance between mass masala films and content oriented ones. It has just been announced that he will be starring in a new mass entertainer titled as ‘Bachchan Pandey’. Farhad Samji is directing the movie and it is produced by Sajid Nadiadwala. The makers are planning to as a Christmas release next year. In the first look poster, a bare-chested, intense looking Akshay is seen holding a nunuchaku.

Akshay also has another mass entertainer in the making – Sooryavanshi. The Rohit Shetty directorial has the khiladi back doing some daredevilry stunts. The makers had released a couple of stills featuring Akshay doing a bike chase and a helicopter stunt. He plays an anti-terrorist squad officer in the movie, which belongs to Rohit Shetty’s cop cinematic universe. Ajay Devgn and Ranveer Singh are also expected to appear in cameo roles.

Meanwhile, Akshay’s much-talked about ‘Mission Mangal’ is also gearing up for release. The movie based on Mangalyaan, India’s first interplanetary mission to reach the Mars orbit, is directed by Jagan Shakti. Mamangam second poster to be released tomorrow!

Shoot for ‘Mamangam’ is nearing completion. Meanwhile, the makers have announced that the second poster will be out tomorrow (July 27) at 10 AM. Fans and common cinephiles will be eagerly waiting to see the new poster. Directed by M Padmakumar, the movie is shaping up as an action packed historical flick. Venu Kunnappilly of Kavya Films is producing the film.

‘Mamangam’ is a historic film with almost 80% of it being based on true events. It is based on the religious festival, Mamangam, that took place every twelve years in a place called Thirunavaya, on the banks of the Bharatapuzha, for over 280 years. The movie’s original director Sajeev Pillai penned the script after doing an extensive research for over twelve years. Shankar Ramakrishnan later adapted the screenplay.

Mammootty plays a ‘chaaver’ in the film. Unni Mukundan also plays a prominent character as Chandroth Panicker. Others in the cast include Kaniha, Anu Sithara, Prachi Tehlan, Siddique, Sudev Nair, Tarun Arora, Suresh Krishna, Mani Kuttan, Manikandan, Ineya and Sudheer. The movie also boasts of a strong technical crew comprising of State award winning cinematographer Manoj Pillai, veteran music director M Jayachandran and art director Mohandas. Bollywood based composer Sanchit Balhara handles the background score.

The making video of Mohanlal’s new film ‘Ittymaani Made in China’ was released online last day. The video also includes brief talks by the director duo Jibi-Joju, producer Antony Perumbavoor, actors Aju Varghese and Dharmajan. All of them unanimously believe that ‘Ittymaani’ will be surely loved by the family audience. Apparently, it is a complete fun entertainer with prominence to family emotions.

Mohanlal plays a father-son duo in the movie. The son character Ittymaani is a caterer by profession. Honey Rose plays his romantic interest. She essays the role of a nurse, who is based in London. ‘Joseph’ fame Madhuri Braganza is paired with the father character.

Radikaa Sarath Kumar, Siddique, Vinu Mohan, Kailas, Johny Antony, KPAC Lalitha, Shekar Menon, Hareesh Kanaran, Salim Kumar, Sijoy Varghese, Nandu, Aristo Suresh, Swasika and many others are part of the movie’s elaborate supporting cast. It is slated for a grand release during the Onam season in September.

Mohanlal’s ‘Odiyan’ is easily one of the biggest disappointments in Malayalam cinema in recent memory. Releasing amidst a never-before-seen hype, the movie failed to impress the majority audience but ended up on a safer side, when seen from a business perspective. ‘Odiyan’ was the directorial debut of VA Shrikumar Menon, a popular ad filmmaker.

Almost a year after the release of ‘Odiyan’, Shrikumar Menon and Mohanlal are collaborating once again, but this time for an ad film. Shrikumar Menon is directing an ad for MY G with Mohanlal starring in it. Recently, the director had shared photos taken during the shoot in his official social media handle.

Mohanlal meanwhile has completed almost all his portions for ‘Ittymaani Made In China. He will soon be joining the sets of ‘Big Brother’, directed by veteran Siddique. His directorial debut ‘Barroz’ and ‘Lucifer’ second part ‘Empuraan’ are his other confirmed projects.

Joju George-Nimisha Sajayan starrer Chola selected for screening at Venice International Film Festival

Director Sanal Kumar Sasidharan’s ‘Chola’ starring Joju George and Nimisha Sajayan has been selected for screening at the Venice International Film Festival. The movie will have its world premiere there at it will be attended by Joju, Nimisha, director Sanal and Shaji Mathew. The film festival will be held at Lido island from August 28 to September 6.

The Venice Festival is the oldest film festival in the world and one of the ‘Big Three’ film festivals, alongside the Cannes Film Festival and Berlin International Film Festival. Interestingly, ‘Chola’ is only the third Malayalam film to be screened at Venice. Adoor Gopalakrishnan’s ‘Mathilukal’ and ‘Nizhalkkuthu’ are the other two films. ‘Chola’ will be competing in the Orizzonti section.

‘Chola’ grabbed attention when Nimisha and Joju won Kerala State awards for their performance in the movie. Director Sanal Kumar Sasidharan also got a special jury mention for direction as well as sound design. Sanal has also scripted the movie jointly with KV Manikandan. Ajith Aacharya is the cinematographer and music is by Basil CJ and Sergey Cheremisnov. It is produced by Joju’s own banner Appu Pathu Pappu Productions.

After the sensational success of the teaser, the makers of ‘Ambili’ have released the first single online. Dulquer Salmaan has shared the song through his social media handle. The track titled ‘Njan Jackson Allada’ is rendered by Antony Dasan. Vishnu Vijayan has composed the song and lyrics is penned by Vinayak Sasikumar.

‘Ambili’ is the sophomore directorial of John Paul George, whose debut ‘Guppy’ was a critically acclaimed film. Soubin Shahir plays the titular role in the movie. Nazriya Nazim’s younger brother Naveen Nazim and debutante Tanvi Ram will also be seen in major roles.

As per reports, ‘Ambili’ is a road film. The movie has reportedly been shot in various states across the country. Sharan Velayudhan, a noted cinematographer in the ad film industry, has wielded the camera for this movie. Vishnu Vijay, who won the State award for ‘Guppy’, has been retained for ‘Ambili’ as well. Kiran Das is handling the edits.

Mukesh R Mehta, AV Anoop and CV Sarathy are jointly producing the movie under the banner of E4 Entertainment. Release date has not yet been announced.

For a while now there have been speculations about Vijay teaming up with director Shankar. Though an official confirmation has not yet been made, it is being widely reported that the project will materialize next year. Adding fuel to the speculations, actor Vikram, in a recent interview hinted that Shankar’s next film will be with Vijay. Vikram is friends with both of them and have often been spotted together in public events.

Apparently, Shankar is planning to make a political film with Vijay on the lines of his own ‘Mudhalvan’. Considering his huge popularity and the growing interest among the Tamil audience about his entry to politics, a Shankar-style political film will be a huge booster for Vijay at this stage of his career.

Shankar is currently working on ‘Indian 2’ with Kamal Haasan. After going on floors in January, the project was shelved briefly due to various reasons. The makers are now planning to resume shoot from August. Vijay meanwhile has the Atlee directorial ‘Bigil’ getting ready for Diwali release. His next after that is with ‘Maanagaram’ fame Lokesh Kanagaraj, and it is said to be a gangster flick.

Nikki Galrani to play the female lead in Omar Lulu’s Dhamaka

Director Omar Lulu’s new film ‘Dhamaka’ is getting ready to go on floors. As informed earlier, Arun Kumar, well known for his performance as a child artist in ‘Olympian Antony Adam’ will be playing the main lead. Nikki Galrani has been signed as the female lead. Apparently, hers is a glamorous character and she will be seen as Arun Kumar’s pair in the film.

‘Dhamaka’ has its story by Omar Lulu, while screenplay and dialogues are penned jointly by Sarang Jayaprakash, Venu OV and Kiran Lal. As per the makers, it will be a full-on comedy entertainer revolving around the hero’s impotency issue.

‘Dhamaka’ will have veteran actors Mukesh and Urvashi in prominent roles. Tik Tok fame Fukru, Hareesh Kanaran and Dharmajan Bolgatty are also part of the supporting cast. Its technical crew comprises of Sinoj P Ayyappan as the cinematographer, Gopi Sunder as the composer and Dilip Dennis as the editor.

MK Nassar is producing the movie under the banner of Good Line Productions.
