Mammootty’s Shylock to be made as a Tamil-Malayalam bilingual

The formal launch of Mammootty’s new film ‘Shylock’ was held today at IMA House in Kochi. Ajai Vasudev is directing the movie and Joby George is producing it under the banner of Goodwill Entertainment. Scripted by newcomers Bibin Mohan and Aneesh Hameed, the movie is said to be an action-packed mass entertainer.

Interestingly, ‘Shylock’ has been planned as a bilingual in Tamil and Malayalam. Veteran Tamil actor has been signed to play a very prominent role in the movie. Meena will be seen as the female lead. In the launch event, Mammootty also informed that he plays a financier in the movie.

It is worth a mention that ‘Shylock’ is a character in William Shakespeare’s famous play ‘The Merchant of Venice’. In the play, Shylock is a stringent Jewish moneylender. Likewise, in this upcoming film, Mammootty plays a miserly financier and it is a grey shaded role. According to him, Raj Kiran’s character is the real hero.

The core technical crew of ‘Shylock’ comprises of promising young DOP Renadive, music director Gopi Sunder, editor Riyas K Badhar and art director Vinod Raveendran. Full fledged shoot is slated to being from August 7.

Kamal Haasan-Shankar team’s ‘Indian 2’ has been in the news for a long time now. After the movie was officially launched in January this year, there were reports about the project being temporarily shelved. Kamal Haasan’s political commitments and budget overrun were said to be the reasons. But we now hear that the makers have resolved all the issues. Kollywood medias suggest that full fledged shoot will resume from August.

Buzz is that Bollywood action star Vidyut Jammwal has been roped in to star alongside Kamal Haasan. He is said to play the prime antagonist’s role but the makers are yet to confirm this. Earlier, names like Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar and Abishek Bachchan had also surfaced online but it seems like Jammwal has signed the deal. He is best known in Tamil for his villain role in Vijay’s ‘Thuppakki’. His last release in Tamil was the Suriya starrer ‘Anjaan’, which was released five years back. The actor is indeed lucky to bag a huge project like ‘Indian 2’ for his comeback.

‘Indian 2’ has Kamal Haasan reprising his role of Senapathi, a freedom fighter-turned-vigilante. Kajal Agarwal was originally signed as the female lead. Actors like Siddharth, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Aishwarya Rajesh, Nedumudi Venu and Delhi Ganesh are also said to be part of the cast.

Shankar has written the movie’s screenplay and dialogues are penned by Jeyamohan, Kabilan Vairmuthu and Lakshmi Saravanakumar. Others in the crew include music director Anirudh Ravichander, cinematographer Ravi Varman, editor Sreekar Prasad and production designer Muthuraj.

Swathi Reddy to play the female lead in Thrissur Pooram

Shoot for Jayasurya’s new film ‘Thrissur Pooram’ commenced only recently. Rajesh Mohanan is directing the movie and it is being produced by Vijay Babu’s Friday Film House. Composer Ratheesh Vega is debuting as scriptwriter with this movie, which is touted to be an action packed mass entertainer.

The makers have roped in Swathi Reddy to play the female lead. She plays Jayasurya’s wife in the film and hers is said to be a very important character. The two had earlier shared screen space in ‘Aadu Oru Bheegara Jeeviyanu’, in which Swathi appeard in a cameo. She was last seen in Malayalam in Lijo Jose Pellissery’s ‘Double Barrel’.

As well reported earlier, ‘Thrissur Pooram’ is a film structured just like the real Pooram festival. It is divided into several chapters each signifying the various stages of the festival. Jayasurya plays a mass character named Round Jayan. Senthil Krishna of ‘Chalakkudikaran Changathi’ fame reportedly plays the villain. Sabumon Abdusamad, Vijay Babu, Gayathri Arun, Mallika Sukumaran and Sreejith Ravi are part of the cast.

The movie has cinematography by veteran RD Rajasekhar and edits by Deepu Joseph. Ratheesh Vega is handling the music department as well.

Raj Kiran makes his Malayalam debut with Mammootty’s Shylock

The official launch of Mammootty’s new film directed by Ajai Vasudev was held today at IMA House in Kochi. Scripted by newcomers Bibin Mohan and Aneesh Hameed, the movie is said to be an action-packed mass entertainer.

‘Shylock’ has veteran Raj Kiran in a very prominent role. The movie marks his maiden outing in Malayalam. A winner of multiple Tamil Nadu State Awards, Raj Kiran is popular for his roles in films like ‘Sandakozhi’, ‘Pa Paandi’, ‘Muni’, ‘Thavamai Thavamirundhu’ etc. Though the nature of his character is not yet known, it will be interesting to see him share screen space with Mammootty in ‘Shylock’.

Full fledged shoot for the movie is expected to begin by the first week of August. Its core technical crew of ‘Shylock’ comprises of cinematographer Renadive, music director Gopi Sunder, editor Riyas K Badhar and art director Vinod Raveendran.

Kamal Haasan teams up with AR Rahman for his dream project Thalaivan Irukkindraan

Last day, AR Rahman tweeted a photo taken with Kamal Haasan in his studio announcing that they are collaborating for a big project. As soon as speculations started surfacing online, Haasan put an end to all that by retweeting that they are coming together for ‘Thalaivan Irukkindraan’, a project that he has been in the planning for long. Lyca Productions and Haasan’s own Raajkamal Films International will be jointly producing this biggie.

AR Rahman’s tweet reads,

Kamal Haasan replied back,

‘Thalaivan Irukkindraan’ is a political film that Kamal Haasan wanted to do years back on a big scale. He planned it as a bilingual in Tamil and Hindi. While the Tamil verison was supposed to have him in the lead, the Hindi part titled as ‘Amar Hain’ was planned with Saif Ali Khan. However, due to various reasons, the project didn’t materialize.

More details about ‘Thalaivan Irukkindraan’ is expected to be officially announced soon.

Amidst a lot of speculations, the makers of ‘Nerkonda Paarvai’ have finally confirmed the release date. The movie will be hitting screens on August 8. The H Vinoth directorial is the remake of acclaimed Hindi film ‘Pink’. Boney Kapoor, husband of late actress Sridevi, is producing the movie.

‘Nerkonda Paarvai’ has Ajith reprising Amitabh Bachchan’s role from the original. Shraddha Srinath is essaying the role done by Taapsee Pannu. Bollywood actress Vidya Balan’s is making her debut in Tamil with this movie by playing the role of Ajith’s wife. Kalki Koechlin is also making a guest appearance in a song.

‘Nerkonda Paarvai’ has pretty high expectations among the Tamil audience as Ajith is doing something different from the regular commercial potboilers after a very long gap. ‘Pink’, directed by Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury, was a widely acclaimed film that even went on to bag a National award. The Tamil version is also expected to do well.

Biju Menon starrer ‘Sathyam Paranja Viswasikkuvo’, directed by G Prajith had hit screens last Friday (July 5). The movie has opened to largely positive reviews, from both the critics and general audience. Celebrities like Prithviraj Sukumaran, Tovino Thomas and Kunchacko Boban have heaped praise on the makers and congratulated them for the movie’s success.

A new song from upcoming Malayalam movie ‘Shibu’ was just released online. The romantic track ‘Pularum Vere’ is composed by Sachin Warrier and rendered by KS Harisankar. Manu Manjith has penned the lyrics. The movie is directed by newcomers Arjun Prabhakaran and Gokul Ramakrishnan.

From the earlier released trailer, we presume ‘Shibu’ to be a fun filled entertainer. The protagonist here is a hardcore Dileep film and the movie traces the events that occur in his life. Newcomer Karthik Ramakrishnan plays the main lead in the movie. Anju Kurian, known for her roles in ‘Njan Prakashan’ and ‘Om Shanthi Oshana’, plays the female lead. Salim Kumar, Biju Kuttan, Aiswarya Padmakumar and Lukman are also part of the main cast.

The technical crew of ‘Shibu’ comprises of Shabeer Ahammed as the cinematographer and Noufal Abdullah as the editor. Sachin Warrier and Vignesh Bhaskaran have composed the music. It is being produced under the banner of Kaargo Cinemas.

Shoot for Kalabhavan Shajohn’s directorial debut ‘Brother’s Day’ starring Prithviraj Sukumaran has finally been wrapped up. The latter informed this through a post in his social media handle. He will next start shooting for ‘Driving Licence’, which will be directed by Jean Paul Lal aka Lal Jr.

‘Brother’s Day’ scripted by Shajohn promises to be a fun filled commercial mass entertainer. Madonna Sebastian, Miya George, Aishwarya Lekshmi and Prayaga Martin play the female leads. Tamil actor Prasanna is making his Malayalam debut with this movie. He is said to be essaying the villain’s part, but the makers are yet to confirm this.

‘Brother’s Day’ has camera cranked by Jithu Damodar and songs composed by the multi-talented Nadirshah. Background score is done by 4 Musics of ‘Oppam’ fame. Listin Stephen is producing the movie under the banner of Magic Frames. It is scheduled for a grand Onam release in September.
