563 St Charles Street: Tovino’s new film is a horror thriller

Recently, Tovino Thomas had announced his new film ‘563 St Charles Street’. Debutant Rony Roy is directing the movie and is produced by B Rakesh of Universal Cinema. It is touted to be a crossover film, which is a first in Tovino’s career. Interestingly, it is a horror thriller that is based on real life events. As per the makers, it is a blend of horror and mystery and the film is set completely in the US.

Director Rony Roy has penned the story and screenplay is by Sangeeth Jain. Crossover films are a rarity in a small-scale industry like Malayalam. Crossover genre movies give an authentic portrayal of the ways of living in a cross-cultural set up. Such films explore the different value systems and beliefs that emerge when a person or a community crosses cultural boundaries. Last year’s Prithviraj starrer ‘Ranam’ was publicised as a crossover film.

It must be noted that the core team of technicians from ‘Ranam’ have been retained for ‘563 St Charles Street’ as well, which includes cinematographer Jigme Tenzing, composer Jakes Bejoy and editor Sreejith Sarang

Illikoodinullil: Check out this new song from Sathyam Paranja Vishwasikuvo

Biju Menon’s new film ‘Sathyam Paranja Vishwasikuvo’, directed by G Prajith had hit screens last Friday (July 5). The movie has opened to largely positive reviews, from both the critics and commoners. With the support of family audience and the positive word of mouth in social medias, the movie is most likely to have a good run in the box office.

Meanwhile, the makers have released a new video song online. The track titled ‘Illikoodinullil’ is rendered by Sudeep Kumar and Merin Gregory. Shaan Rahman has composed it and lyrics is by BK Harinarayanan. It is a beautiful song that follows the day-to-day life of the lead couple, played by Biju Menon and Samvritha Sunil.

‘Sathyam Paranja Vishwasikuvo’ is scripted by Sajeev Pazhoor, the National award winner who penned the widely acclaimed ‘Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum’. It is a clean entertainer film with elements of social satire, family drama and thriller. Biju plays the role of a mason in the movie and Samvritha essays the role of his wife. Alencier Ley Lopez, Sudhi Koppa, Dinesh Prabhakar, Dharmajan Bolgatty, Saiju Kurup, Sreekanth Murali, Bhagath Manuel, Sreelekshmi, Sruthy Jayan and many others are also part of the supporting cast.

Rama Devi of Green TV Entertainer has produced the movie jointly with Sandip Senan and Anish M Thomas of Urvasi Pictures.

Director Ranjith has announced that he will be joining hands with Aju Varghese for a thriller film next. It has been titled as ‘Kamala’ and an intriguing title poster was released just a while back. Apparently, it’s a project that Ranjith Sankar had been planning for long but could not find the apt actor to play the lead character. He finally zeroed in on Aju Varughese, who is often associated with comedy sidekick roles.

Along with sharing the poster, Ranjith Sankar has written,

KAMALA is a thriller I am attempting after Passenger and Arjunan Sakshi.
I wrote this script and thought of all existing heros in it. He was so basic yet diverse that none was fitting in . It was sad to put this aside and move on to other stories.
Then one fine morning I thought of him. And realised it was a script written for him.

Love Action Drama New Poster

‘Love Action Drama’ stars Nivin Pauly and Nayanthara in the lead roles. The two actors are coming together for the first time and that is one of the major attractions of the movie. Dhyan has scripted the movie as a clean rom-com entertainer. The lead characters in the film are named as Dineshan and Shobha, as a tribute to Sreenivasan’s yesteryear hit film ‘Vadakkunokkiyanthram’. Dhanya Balakrishnan, Vismaya, Maya Menon, Basil Joseph and Durga Krishna are also part of the movie’s supporting cast.

‘LAD’ has cinematography by Jomon T John and Roby Varghese Raj. Music is composed by Shaan Rahman and edits are done by Vivek Harshan. Aju Varghese is foraying into production by producing this movie jointly with Vishak Subramaniam under the banner of Funtastic Films.

Samvritha Sunil makes a strong comeback with Sathyam Paranja Viswasikkuvo

Biju Menon’s new film ‘Sathyam Paranja Viswasikkuvo’, directed by G Prajith had hit screens last day. It is scripted by Sajeev Pazhoor, the National award winner who penned the widely acclaimed ‘Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum’ (TD). It is an entertainer film with elements of social satire, family drama and thriller.

Biju Menon plays a mason’s role in the movie and Samvritha Sunil essays the role of her wife, Geetha. The two got married against the will of her folks. Sunil’s carefree attitude coupled with the average Malayali’s drinking problem means that they lead a typical lower middle-class life with debts to be cleared. Both the actors have played their parts perfectly. The dynamics between the two as the middle-class couple has worked out extremely well.

Samvritha Sunil, who is making a comeback after a long gap, is a case of perfect casting. Though her screen time is limited, the character had good scope for performance. It is a kind of role that she has not done before and that must be the main reason for her to choose it as her comeback. Samvritha has quite a few emotional scenes in the film and her subtle performance makes it easily relatable to the audience.

With the help of positive word of mouth in social medias, Sathyam Paranja Viswasikkuvo is expected to have a good run in the box office.

Chiyaan 58: AR Rahman to score music for Vikram’s next

It was earlier announced that Vikram will be teaming up with Ajay Gnanamuthu next. 7 Screen Studio and Viacom 18 Studios are jointly producing the movie, which is yet to be titled. The makers have roped in maestro AR Rahman to compose music for the movie. Official word regarding the same was made just a while back via social media. Shoot for the movie planned to start from August and is planned an April 2020 release.

Director Ajay Gnanamuthu is a former associate of AR Murugadoss. He has previously helmed two hit films – ‘Demonte Colony’ and ‘Imaikka Nodigal’. The latter starring Nayanthara, Anurag Kashyap and Atharvaa Murali emerged as a big success at the box office. His new film film with Vikram is also said to be a thriller on the lines of ‘Imaikkaa Nodigal’.

Vikram meanwhile is awaiting the release of ‘Kadaram Kondan’, directed by Rajesh M Selva. The movie is slated to hit screens next Friday (July 19). His long delayed Gautham Menon directorial ‘Dhruva Natchathiram’ is yet to be completed. The epic mythological flick ‘Mahavir Karna’ is also in the making. Vikram has also signed for Mani Ratnam’s ambitious film adaptation of ‘Ponniyin Selvan’.

Mamangam director Padmakumar to team up with Asif Ali next

Director M Padmakumar is currently busy with the final leg of shoot of ‘Mamangam’. Starring Mammootty in the lead, this big budget film is shaping up as an action packed historical flick. Shoot is set to be wrapped up very shortly as the makers are planning for a Pooja release in October.

After ‘Mamangam’, Padmakumar is planning to team up with Asif Ali for a new film. Suraj Venjaramoodu will also be part of the film, which is yet to be titled. It must be noted that Asif and Padmakumar had previously worked together in the segment ‘Oru Bolivian Diary 1995’ in the anthology film ‘D Company’.

Asif Ali meanwhile has a string of interesting projects lined up. He is currently awaiting the release of ‘Underworld’ directed by Arun Kumar Aravind. ‘Kunjeldho’ with RJ Mathukutty, ‘Parannu Parannu’ with Sugeeth, ‘Ketyolaan Ente Malakha’ with debutant Nisam Basheer and an untitled film with Rajeev Ravi are Asif’s other upcoming films. His last release ‘Kakshi Amminippilla’ is also doing well in theatres.

Five stunt choreographers in Dileep-Arjun starrer Jack Daniel

Shoot for Dileep’s upcoming movie ‘Jack Daniel’ is nearing completion. The movie directed by SL Puram Jayasurya of ‘Speed Track’ fame is shaping up as an action packed thriller. Along with Dileep, the movie also stars Arjun Sarja in prominent role. The two actors are coming together for the first time and that’s the movie’s biggest selling point. It will be interesting to them share screen space.

Reportedly, the movie has Dileep as a robber named Jack and Arjun playing a CBI officer named Daniel. It is a thrilling cat and mouse story and it has much prominence to action. The makers have hired the services of five action choreographers, which includes popular names like Peter Hein, Kanal Kannan, Mafia Sasi and Supreme Sundar. Some of the stills from the movie’s location also hint at a full-on action flick.

Anju Kurian of and ‘Njan Prakashan’ fame plays the female lead in the movie. Saiju Kurup, Devan, Innocent, Janaradhanan, Ashokan, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Aju Varghese are also part of the cast. The movie is being planned on a big scale with high production values. Cinematography is done by Sivakumar Vijayan, who has cranked camera for Tamil films like ‘NGK’, ‘Iraivi’ and ‘Irudhi Suttru’. Gopi Sunder handles the music department.

Acclaimed cinematographer MJ Radhakrishnan passes away

Popular cinematographer MJ Radhakrishnan passed away on Friday following a heart attack. He breathed his last at a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. The 61-year-old has cranked camera for over 75 films. Though he predominantly active in the Malayalam industry, he has also worked in a few Hindi and Tamil films.

In a career that spanned over four decades, MJ Radhakrishnan won the Kerala State award for best cinematographer seven times. He has also won awards at the international level for his works in ‘Bioscope’ at the South Asian International Film Festival and ‘Papilio Buddha’ at the Oaxaca Film Fest. ‘Marana Simhasanam’ won him the Golden Camera Award in the Un Certain Regard section of the prestigious Cannes Festival of 1999. His most recent work ‘Veyilmarangal’, directed by Dr Biju, won the award for ‘Outstanding Artistic Achievement Award’ at the 22nd Shanghai International Film Festival. It is the first time an Indian film is winning an award at the Shanghai festival.

MJ Radhakrishnan was the go-to choice for several art-house filmmakers as he had the ability to produce beautiful frames within a small budget. He was also well known for his love for shooting in natural light. Some of his best works in came in films like ‘Kaliyattam’, ‘Deshadanam’, ‘Kannaki’, ‘Thirakkatha’, ‘Ottal’ and ‘Veettilekkulla Vazhi’. He has collaborated with highly acclaimed filmmakers like Adoor Gopalakrishnan, Shaji N Karun, Dr Biju and TV Chandran.
