Senthil Krishna to play the villain in Jayasurya’s Thrissur Pooram
Last day, Jayasurya’s new film ‘Thrissur Pooram’ was formally launched with a switch on ceremony. Rajesh Mohanan is directing the movie and it is being produced by Vijay Babu’s Friday Film House. It is an action flick that will have Jayasurya in a mass avatar named Round Jayan. Composer Ratheesh Vega has debuted as scriptwriter with this movie. He is also handling the music department.
The makers have roped in Senthil Krishna to play a major role in ‘Thrissur Pooram’. Senthil’s amazing performance in the Kalabhavan Mani biopic ‘Chalakkudikaran Changathi’ was widely appreciated and he has been getting several offers since then. In Aashiq Abu’s multi-starrer ‘Virus’, Senthil played a crucial role as a Minister. He is also playing a prominent role in Jayaram’s ‘Marconi Mathai’.
In ‘Thrissur Pooram’, Senthil has been roped in to play the villain opposite Jayasurya. As per the makers, the film is set in the backdrop of Thrissur Pooram and is divided into several chapters each signifying the various stages of the festival. Cinematography will be handled by veteran RD Rajasekhar and edits will be done by Deepu Joseph. They have planned to shoot the movie for 30 days and are planning to release it in October.

Audience should not expect a Baahubali or Pazhassi Raja: Mamangam director Padmakumar
‘Mamangam’ directed by M Padmakumar is currently in the last stages of shoot. Starring Mammootty in the lead, the movie is shaping up as an action packed historical flick. Since ‘Mamangam’ is a period flick set in a medieval era, parallels are certain to be drawn with ‘Baahubali’, which has set a new benchmark for Indian cinema in this particular genre. In Malayalam, Mammootty’s own films ‘Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha’ and ‘Pazhassi Raja’ are considered as the standard.
However, director Padmakumar has made it clear that audience should not be expecting a film like ‘Pazhassi Raja’ or ‘Baahubali’. According to him, Mamangam is, in a way, the story of a failed hero. It focusses on the life of people considered below the ruling classes in the social hierarchy of those times. As per the director, it is a thrilling story and has all the elements of an entertainer.
Earlier, Mammootty had also said that ‘Mamangam’ be entirely different from ‘Baahubali’ as it is a more realistic film with very less VFX and computer generated imagery. ‘Baahubali’ is completely fictitious while ‘Mamangam’ is a historic film with almost 80% of it being based on true events. It is based on the religious festival, Mamangam, that took place every twelve years in a place called Thirunavaya, on the banks of the Bharatapuzha, for over 280 years.
The movie’s original director Sajeev Pillai penned the script after doing an extensive research for over twelve years. Shankar Ramakrishnan later adapted the screenplay. Shoot is nearing completion and the makers are planning to release it by the end of the year.
Shoot for Vijay-Atlee team’s ‘Bigil’ nearing completion. One of the most anticipated Tamil film of this year, ‘Bigil’ has the star playing a dual role as a gangster father and his football player son. It has a big star cast comprising of lead actress Nayanthara, Jackie Shroff, Kathir, Yogi Babu, Vivek, Induja, Varsha Bollamma, Amrita Aiyer, Reba Monica John, Daniel Balaji and Anand Raj.
Interestingly, the makers have also roped in former Indian footballer and Malayali actor IM Vijayan to play a crucial role. Vijayan has previously acted in Tamil films like ‘Thimiru’, ‘Komban’ and ‘Gethu’. In ‘Bigil’, he will reportedly be seen alongside the father character, done by Vijay. Since the movie has a football backdrop, it is most likely that Vijayan will be showing some of his extraordinary football skills.
‘Bigil’ has music composed by AR Rahman. Vijay has also rendered a track in the movie. Cinematography is by ‘Mersal’ fame GK Vishnu and edits are handled by Ruben. AGS Entertainment is producing the movie, which is slated for a grand Diwali release in October.

It must be remembered that both Dulquer and Vijay Deverakonda were earlier part of ‘Mahanati’ (Nadigayar Thilagam in Tamil), but they did not have any combination scenes in the movie. It will be really huge if the two stars come together on screen as both of them enjoy tremendous popularity across the South.

Sathyam Paranja Viswasikkuvo: A well-made, engaging family drama-cum-thriller
Biju Menon’s new film ‘Sathyam Paranja Viswasikkuvo’, directed by G Prajith has hit screens today. It is scripted by Sajeev Pazhoor, the National award winner who penned the widely acclaimed ‘Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum’ (TD).
The protagonist Sunil (Biju Menon) is a daily labourer in the construction field who has a small family comprising of his wife and daughter. He married Geetha (Samvritha Sunil), who is from a well-to-do family against the will of her folks. Sunil’s carefree attitude coupled with the average Malayali’s drinking problem means that they lead a typical lower middle-class life with debts to be cleared. At a crucial juncture, Sunil and his friends at work come across something extraordinary, which they see as a jackpot that can change their lives for the better. Whether they manage to see through it forms the rest of the plot.
Unlike Sajeev’s previous script ‘TD’, which was an exceptionally well written film, ‘Sathyam Paranja Viswasikkuvo’ doesn’t try to achieve much. The major events that occur in the film is straight out of today’s society. The horse-trading that is rampant in Indian politics these days is seen in this film as well but in an overall perspective it doesn’t have much of an importance. That parallel track involving the local politics could’ve been better. However, the same cannot be said about the family drama part and the compelling portions that arise after the major conflict, as it is skillfully written and keeps us engaged throughout.
Sathyam Paranja Viswasikkuvo Review Rating Hit Or Flop
Director Prajith has opted for a realistic treatment with just the necessary commercial elements like some well-placed situational humour and a couple of songs, that thankfully doesn’t act as an hindrance. The makers have done a good job in making sure that there’s hardly any uninteresting moment in the film. The rural locality in which the plot is set adds authenticity to the proceedings.
On the performance side, Biju Menon, like always, has played his part efficiently. His character doesn’t go through a big arc as such, so it’s a cake walk for an actor of his caliber. Samvritha Sunil, who is making a comeback after a long gap, is a case of perfect casting. The dynamics between the two as the middle-class couple has worked out extremely well. Samvritha has quite a few emotional scenes in the film and she has given a finely measured subtle performance.
Sathyam Paranja Viswasikkuvo Review Rating Hit Or Flop
Among the supporting cast, Alencier Ley, Sudhi Koppa, Sruthy Jayan, Srinkanth Murali, Vijay Kumar, Dinesh Prabhakar, Bhagath Manuel, Vettukili Prakash and Johny Antony have performed their roles well. Both the songs by Shaan Rahman and Viswajith, and the score by Bijibal synced well with the film.
In a nutshell, Sathyam Paranja Viswasikkuvo is a simple film that comfortably achieves what it intended to – engage and entertain the audience.

It has already emerged as the highest grosser in Mammootty’s three-decade long career and his first film to enter the prestigious 100 crore club.
