Mammootty starrer Unda postponed; Here’s the new release date

Mammootty’s cop flick ‘Unda’ is eagerly awaited by fans and common audience alike. The movie was supposed to hit screens this week for Eid, but due to censoring issues it has now been postponed. ‘Unda’ is now scheduled for worldwide release on June 14. The makers are expected to share the trailer shortly.

‘Unda’ directed by Khalidh Rahman revolves around a set of events that occur when an unit of policemen from Kerala reach the Maosit areas in Chhattisgarh for election duty. Mammootty plays a police inspector’s character named Manikandan CP. He heads the eight-member team of police constables, played by Shine Tom Chacko, Jacob Gregory, Rony David, Arjun Ashokan, Noushad Bombay, Gokulan, Abhiram and Lukman.

The movie’s teaser, which was released earlier this month, gives a clear picture of what to expect from it. ‘Unda’ will be a completely realistic film without any superstar glorification or other commercial gimmicks. Krishnan Sethukumarr is producing the movie under the banner of Movie Mill in association with Gemini Studios.

Marakkar Arabikadalinte Simham overseas rights acquired for an all time record price

The overseas rights of Priyadarshan’s much hyped ‘Marakkar – Arabikkadalinte Simham’ was recently bagged by leading distribution firm Phars Films Co LLC. It i said that the rights have been acquired for Rs 10 crores, which is the highest ever for a Malayalam movie. It includes the rights for all the languages in which the movie will be releasing. The mammoth success of films like ‘Lucifer’ and ‘Madhura Raja’ have clearly inspired the distributors to invest such high amount.

After shoot got wrapped up in March, ‘Marakkar’ has been in the post-production phase. Since it is a VFX heavy film, it demands a lot of post-production work and the makers themselves had informed that it might take up to a year to complete all the works. A Los Angeles based company is handling the VFX works.

The period flick which is based on the life of Kunjali Marakkar has big stars from various industries from across the country. Apart from lead actor Mohanlal, the cast comprises of his son Pranav, Suniel Shetty, Arjun Sarja, Keerthy Suresh, Ashok Selvan, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Prabhu, Mukesh, Siddique, Manju Warrier, Baburaj, Nedumudi Venu, Hareesh Perady, Nandu, Innocent, Ganesh Kumar, Suresh Kumar and many others.

‘Marakkar’ is said to be made on a budget of around Rs 100 crores. Mohanlal’s Aashirvad Cinemas, Confident Group and Moonshot Entertainment are jointly producing the movie.

‘Baahubali’ fame Kaecha choreographs the stunts in Pathinettam Padi

Actor-writer Shanker Ramakrishnan’s directorial debut ‘Pathinettam Padi’ is gearing up to hit screens. The makers have released a couple of songs already and a teaser is expected soon. The movie is eagerly awaited by a section of audience as it has some big star presence. Though the lead roles are played by newcomers, the cast also include stars like Mammootty, Prithviraj and Unni Mukundan.

Though its technical crew mostly comprises of newcomers, stunts in the movie are choreographed by popular stunt master Kaecha Kampakdee, who has worked in movies like ‘Baahubali 2’, ‘Thuppakki’, ‘Bhaagi’, and ‘Vishwaroopam’. For ‘Pathinettam Padi’, Kaecha and his Jaika Stunts Team from Thailand had conducted an action training camp for the newcomers.

‘Pathinettam Padi’ is said to be a story about the rivalry between a bunch teenagers from two different schools. Mammootty plays a character named John Abraham Palackal and he sports a new look in the movie. It is said to be a very prominent character that basically takes the story forward. Prithviraj and Unni Mukundan will be seen in guest appearances. The cast also comprises of Priya Anand, Saniya Iyappan, Ahaana Krishna, Maala Parvathy, Biju Sopanam and many others.

Aashiq Abu reveals that he is in talks with Mohanlal for a new movie!

For years now, there have been wild theories in Malayalam social media space about Aashiq Abu having a long existing hatred for Mohanlal. Event though the director has dismissed these allegations as baseless several times in the past, it still continues to go around in the online space. In a recent interview, when Abu was asked about the same, he said that they both share great mutual respect for each other and that it’s the fans community who are spreading all these false accusations.

When asked if he would collaborate with Mohanlal for a project, Aashiq Abu revealed that they have been discussing few ideas. According to him, it’s a big challenge to make a movie with Mohanlal as he is such a senior and proven actor, who is also a big brand now. So, there should be an unique subject that excites the actor. Abu added that he is currently on the look out for such a subject and if things fall in place, they will be teaming up in the near future.

Aashiq Abu is currently awaiting the release of ‘Virus’, an ambitious multi-starrer film based on the Nipah outbreak. The movie is scheduled to hit screens on June 7.

As informed earlier, the first look poster of Sunny Wayne’s new movie ‘Anugraheethan Antony’ has been released online. Dulquer Salmaan shared the poster through his official social media handle. The movie has a very young team behind it; most of them, newcomers. Debutant Prince Joy is directing the movie and is scripted by Naveen T Manilal. Its story penned by Jishnu R Nair and Aswin Prakash.

Gouri G Kishan, who won hearts with her impressive performance in the sensational blockbuster ’96’, is making her Malayalam debut with ‘Anugraheethan Antony’. As per the makers, it is a film that has emotions, fantasy elements and much more. Gouri is supposedly playing the part of Sunny Wayne’s romantic interest in the film. Suraj Venjaramoodu and Siddique are also part of the cast. Interestingly, a dog will also be playing a crucial part in the movie.

Mammootty starrer ‘Madhura Raja’ has successfully reached its 50 days of theatrical run. The movie which was released during the Vishu season is still being screened in over 20 centres across the state. This is quite a big achievement considering the fact that the movie had to face stiff competition from several films, including other language biggies.

‘Madhura Raja’ is directed by Vysakh and scripted by Udhayakrishna. Prior to its release itself, trade analysts and industry insiders had pinned high hopes on the movie and as expected, it has turned out to be a huge blockbuster. The makers had recently announced that the movie has done a worldwide business of Rs 104 crore in 45 days. ‘Madhura Raja’ is Mammootty’s first film to enter the Rs 100 crore club.

As reported by us earlier, Ajith will be teaming up with director H Vinoth once again after ‘Nerkonda Paarvai’. The movie tentatively titled as ‘Thala 60’ reportedly has Ajith playing a police officer. The actor has already started working out for the movie to shed the extra weight that he had put on for ‘Viswasam’ and ‘Nerkonda Paarvai’.

Boney Kapoor and Zee Studios will be jointly producing this upcoming movie. Though an official confirmation has still not been made, fans are already excited to see Thala donning the khakis once again. Ajith has previously done cop roles in films like ‘Mankatha’ and ‘Yennai Arindhaal’.

Meanwhile, the star’s ‘Nerkonda Paarvai’ is gearing up for release. The movie, which is the official remake of acclaimed Hindi film ‘Pink’, is scheduled for release on August 10. Ajith is reprising the role played by Amitabh Bachchan in the original. Shraddha Srinath is essaying the role played by Taapsee Pannu. The movie also marks Vidya Balan’s debut in Tamil as she plays the role of Ajith’s wife. Kalki Koechlin is also making a guest appearance in a song.
