Tovino’s new film Edakkad Battalion 06 launched

As we reported earlier, Tovino Thomas is starring in a new film titled ‘Edakkad Battalion 06’. Debutant Swapnesh K Nair, a former associate of Omar Lulu, is directing the film. The movie was officially launched today (May 22) with a customary pooja ceremony.

Actor-writer P Balachandran is scripting the film. He has penned some highly acclaimed films like ‘Ulladakkam’, ‘Pavithram’, ‘Agnidevan’ and ‘Punaradhivasam’. He last scripted the Rajeev Ravi directorial ‘Kammattipaadam’. Details regarding the genre of his new movie with Tovino has not yet been revealed.

Samyuktha Menon, who had shared screen space with Tovino in ‘Theevandi’ and ‘Uyare’, has been signed as the female lead. Sinu Sidharth will be cranking the camera and Kailas Menon will be handling the music department. Rathin Radhakrishnan is in charge of the edits.

Dr Shrikant Bhasi, Thomas Joseph Pattathanam and Jayant Mammen are jointly producing ‘Edakkad Battalion 06’ under the banner of Ruby Films.

Kunchacko Boban, Joju George, and Vinayakan team up for Pada

We were among the first to report about Kunchacko Bobaban, Joju George, Vinayakan and Dileesh Pothan teaming up for a film to be directed by Kamal KM of ‘I.D’ fame. E4 Entertainment is producing the film, which will have cinematography by Sameer Thahir. The movie, which has been titled as ‘Pada’, has gone on floors today.

Director Kamal KM’s ‘I.D’, which was also his debut film, was a widely acclaimed work that went on to be screened at various international film festivals across the world. Malayali filmmaker Rajeev Ravi’s Collective Phase One produced the film that had National award winner Geetanjali Thapa in the lead. ‘I.D’ was screened at Busan International Film Festival, Abu Dhabi Film Festival, International Film Festival of India (IFFI), International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) and Deauville Asian Film Festival.

Kamal KM has got a very promising set of actors for debut film in Malayalam. Let’s wait and see how the film turns out to be.

Check out Parvathy’s stunning makeover for Uyare

Parvathy starrer ‘Uyare’ is running successfully in theatres. The movie has got unanimously positive response from the critics and common audience. ‘Uyare’ is directed by Manu Ashokan and scripted by Bobby-Sanjay. It tells the inspiring story of an acid attack survivor.

Parvathy’s performance as the pilot aspirant who later becomes an acid attack victim earned her appreciation from all corners. Last day, the makers had released a video showing the makeover she underwent for the movie. In an earlier interview, scriptwriters Bobby and Sanjay had explained about how dedicated Parvathy was and the efforts she took to perfect the character.

Prior to the commencement of shoot of ‘Uyare’, Parvathy had visited Sheroes Hangout, a cafe in Agra run by a group of women who survived acid attacks. From there, she learnt about their lives, their current lifestyle and how the attack affected them, both physically and mentally. She even picked up minute details about how they cry, move their lips and how they chew their food.

Parvathy’s make up for the acid attack part was very challenging as applying the prosthetics itself used take up to three hours. Since a lot of chemicals were used in the make up, it would singe after a while. The actress had to endure all the pain till the end of shoot.

As we already know, star kids, Gokul Suresh and Dhyan Sreenivasan are teaming up for the first time for a movie titled ‘Sayanna Varthakal’. Arun Chandu, a former associate of Vineeth Sreenivasan, is making his directorial debut with this movie. Its official teaser was released just a while back in social medias.

Director Arun, Sachin R Chandran and Rahul Menon have jointly scripted this movie, which is touted to be a quirky fun entertainer. According to trustworthy reports, the story is about a movie actor’s life in a government affiliated organisation. Debutante Sharanya Sharma plays the female lead. North Indian actor Makarand Deshpande, Aju Varghese and Vinay Govindhan of ‘Oru Mexican Aparatha’ fame are also part of the movie’s supporting cast.

‘Sayanna Varthakal’ has a rookie technical crew. Prasanth Pillai is handling the music department and cinematography is done by Sarath Shaji. Amal Ayyappan is the editor. The movie is being produced under the banner of D 14 Entertainments.

Last day, as a special birthday treat for Mohanlal fans, the makers of ‘Lucifer’ released a deleted video from the movie. The scene comes right after the ‘Kadavulapole’ song and features Mohanlal in the famous Ray Ban sunglass and bullet combination. He is seen mocking the policemen as they return empty-handed from the crime scene. It is a terrific mass scene, which if included in the movie would have sent the crowd crazy. But, a section of cinephiles believe that it was a good call to edit out the scene as it doesn’t sync with the subtle behaviour of Stephen Nedumbally, the character essayed by Mohanlal.

Meanwhile, ‘Lucifer’ is still running in a few centres in Kerala. The movie is also available on digital streaming platform Amazon Prime in Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu langauges. This Prithviraj directorial is currently the highest grossing Malayalam movie of all time. As per the makers, it has done a worldwide business of over Rs 200 crores. It is the first Malayalam film to have achieved such a remarkable feat.

KU Mohanan to crank camera for Mohanlal’s directorial debut Barroz

As we already know, Mohanlal is set to turn a director shortly. After four decades of acting, the superstar is turning a director with an ambitious 3D film. Titled as ‘Barroz’, the film is based on a mythical story set in the Portuguese backdrop. It is the story of Barroz, a mythical figure who was the gaurdian of Vasco da Gama’s valuable treasures for 400 years. Jijo Punnoose, the visionary filmmaker who made India’s first 3D film ‘My Dear Kuttichathan’, has penned the story.

Pre-production works are currently progressing in Goa, one of the major locations of the movie. Ace cinematographer KU Mohanan will be wielding camera for this 3D film. Mohanlal, Jijo Punnoose, Mohanan and a few others are in Goa as part of pre-production, which includes set works.

KU Mohanan is one of the leading cinematographers in Indian cinema. A Malayali by origin, KU Mohanan has worked predominantly in Hindi films. An FTII pass out, Mohanan has cranked the camera for several big-ticket Bollywood films like ‘Don’, ‘Raees’, ‘Talaash’, ‘Andhadhun’ etc. After being in the industry for nearly three decades, he made his Malayalam debut only last year with the Fahadh Faasil starrer ‘Carbon’. His fabulous work in the film won him a Kerala State award. Mohanan is also the cinematographer of Prithviraj’s upcoming biggie ‘Aadujeevitham’, which is currently in the making.

‘Barroz’ is being produced by Antony Perumbavoor under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas.The makers are planning to shoot in exotic locations in Goa, Portugal and several other foreign countries. It will be dubbed and released in all major Indian languages.

We were among the first to report about Bobby and Sanjay teaming up with Mammootty for a political film. Santhosh Viswanath of ‘Chirakodinka Kinavukal’ fame will be directing the movie. As per latest reports, the movie has been titled as ‘One’. It will be produced by Ichais Productions.

‘One’ will have Mammootty in the role of Kerala Chief Minister. Vishnu Unnikrishnan, Renji Panicker and Sreenivasan were initially said to be part of the cast, but it is yet to be confirmed. The makers are planning to start shooting this year itself. Official announcement is expected to be made shortly.

Bobby and Sanjay are easily one of the finest scriptwriters in Malayalam at present. Their latest release ‘Uyare’ is getting appreciation from all corners and is turning out to be a big hit. The uniqueness in their subjects make them stand apart from others. This is the first time they are working with Mammootty and it will be interesting to see how their collaboration turns out to be.

Mammootty meanwhile has a busy schedule ahead of him. He is currently shooting for ‘Maamaankam’, directed by M Padmakumar. After that, he will start working on ‘Ganagandharvan’, a comedy entertainer directed by Ramesh Pisharody. ‘Bilal’ with Amal Neerad and ‘Ameer’ with Vinod Vijayan is also waiting in the pipeline.

Cinematographer-turned-filmmaker Rajeev Ravi’s next after the ongoing ‘Thuramukham’ will have Asif Ali in the lead. The movie is said to be inspired from a true incident. Sibi Thomas, a real life police circle inspector, is scripting the movie. He is noted for his cop role in ‘Thondimuthal Driksakshiyum’.

Apparently, Rajeev Ravi planned to make this movie after being intrigued by a investigation story that Sibi Thomas had narrated a during a recent television chat show. It was a well-planned jewellery robbery incident that occurred in Kasargod. Sibi Thomas’ part in real life will be brought on screen by Asif Ali. Arun Kumar VR will be producing the movie under the banner of Film Roll productions. More details are expected to be officially announced shortly.
