Mammootty’s eagerly awaited cop flick ‘Unda’ is getting ready for release next month. Khalidh Rahman is directing the movie, which is said to be an action-comedy. Last day, the makers had released the making video of a photoshoot featuring Mammootty. The team is doing minimal but interesting promotions to help the movie reach out to more people without giving any false impressions.

‘Unda’ has Mammootty in the role of a police sub-inspector named Manikandan CP. He heads an eight-member team of police constables comprising of Shine Tom Chacko, Jacob Gregory, Rony David, Arjun Ashokan, Noushad Bombay, Gokulan, Abhiram and Lukman. The teaser, which was released earlier this month, gives a clear picture of what to expect from the movie. It looks like a completely realistic film without any superstar glorification or other commercial gimmicks.

Director Khalid Rahman has penned the story and screenplay is by Harshad. Cinematographer Sajith Purushan, music director Prashanth Pillai and action choreographer Sham Kaushal are also part of the technical crew. Krishnan Sethukumarr is producing the movie under the banner of Movie Mill in association with Gemini Studios.

Phars Films bags the overseas rights of Marakkar – Arabikadalinte Simham

The overseas rights of Priyadarshan’s much hyped ‘Marakkar – Arabikadalinte Simham’ has been bagged by leading distribution firm Phars Films Co LLC. Last day, they broke the big news by sharing a photo taken with the movie’s producer Antony Perumbavoor on their social media handle. Though the exact amount has not yet been revealed, it is said to be one of the highest for a Malayalam movie. The phenomenal success of films like ‘Lucifer’ and ‘Madhura Raja’ must have inspired the company to bag the rights of’ Marakkar – Arabikkadalinte Simham’ for such high price.

‘Marakkar’ is currently in the post-production phase. After shooting for over 100 days, the makers had wrapped up shoot only in March. Since it is a VFX heavy film, it demands a lot of post-production work and the makers themselves had informed that it might take up to a year to complete all the works. A Los Angeles based company is handling the VFX works.

The period flick which is based on the life of Kunjali Marakkar has actors from various industries from across the country as part of its cast. Apart from lead actor Mohanlal, the cast comprises of his son Pranav, Suniel Shetty, Arjun Sarja, Keerthy Suresh, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Prabhu, Mukesh, Siddique, Ashok Selvan, Manju Warrier, Baburaj, Nedumudi Venu, Hareesh Perady, Nandu, Innocent, Ganesh Kumar, Suresh Kumar and many others.

‘Marakkar’ is reportedly made on a budget of Rs 100 crores. Mohanlal’s Aashirvad Cinemas, Confident Group and Moonshot Entertainment are jointly producing the movie.

Mohanlal’s ‘Lucifer’, which hit screens worldwide on March 28, is on its way to 75 days of glorious theatrical run. The makers have special poster for this occasion. The Prithviraj directorial has smashed multiple box office record and is currently ranked as the highest grossing Malayalam movie ever. As per the makers, the movie has registered an overall business of Rs 200 crores, which includes earnings from box office and other rights.

‘Lucifer’ is now available on digital streaming platform Amazon Prime in Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu languages. The movie scripted by Muriali Gopy, is a mass entertainer set in the backdrop of Kerala politics. Mohanlal plays the lead role in the movie, that also stars Vivek Oberoi, Tovino Thomas, Indrajith Sukumaran, Manju Warrier, Sai Kumar and Saniya Iyappan in key roles. It is produced by Mohanlal’s own banner Aashirvad Cinemas.

Apparently, a sequel for ‘Lucifer’ is also in the planning. Though nothing has been confirmed yet, the writer and director have hinted about the possibility of a sequel multiple times. Fans and cinephiles are eagerly waiting for an official word.

Shoot for Prithviraj’s new movie ‘Brother’s Day’ is currently under progress. The movie which marks the directorial debut of Kalabhavan Shajohn is getting ready as a full-on commercial mass entertainer. Latest buzz is that Tamil actor Prasanna is set to make his Malayalam debut with this movie.

Prasanna is noted for his roles in movies like ‘Anjaathey’, ‘Thupparivalan’, ‘Kalyana Samayal Saadham’ and ‘Thiruttu Payale 2’. A highly talented actor, Prasanna had recently made his debut in OTT space with the Zee5 web series ‘Thiravam’. We will have to wait and see what role he plays in ‘Brother’s Day’.

The Shajohn directorial promises to be a refreshing change from the experimental films that Prithviraj has been doing a lot of late. The movie has four female leads in Aishwarya Lekshmi, Prayaga Rose Martin, Madonna Sebastian and Miya George. Listin Stephen is producing the movie under the banner of Magic Frames.

As we get closer to the much awaited release of Mammootty’s starrer ‘Unda’, expectations are soaring high. The movie directed by Khalidh Rahman is touted to be a realistic action-comedy thriller. ‘Unda’ has Mammootty playing the role of a police sub inspector named Mani. Director Ranjith is also playing a key role as a police officer in the movie. Last day, his character poster was released by the makers. He is essaying a character named Mathews Anthony in the movie.

Though Ranjith is a reluctant actor, he has given some fine performances in films like ‘Gulmohar’, ‘Koode’, and ‘Annayum Rasoolum’. His character in ‘Unda’ is said to be a brief but very important in the storyline. The movie’s story revolves around a set of events that occur when an unit of policemen from Kerala reach the Maosit areas in Chhattisgarh for election duty.

Director Khalidh has penned the story and screenplay is written by Harshad. The movie’s star cast also comprises of Asif Ali, Vinay Forrt, Shine Tom Chacko, Jacob Gregory, Rony David, Arjun Ashokan, Gokulan, Abhiram, Sudhi Koppa, Lukman, Omkar Das Manikpuri and Bhagwan Tiwari.

Thala Ajith hits the gym for his next action thriller

Thala Ajith, who was last seen in two different looks in ‘Viswasam’, is set to hit the gym for his new action thriller film. H Vinoth, who has directed Ajith in the yet-to-be released ‘Nerkonda Paarvai’, will be helming his next as well. Boney Kapoor and Zee Studios will be jointly producing the movie.

Ajith had shed oodles of weight and built a strong physique for playing the role of an international counter-terrorist agent in ‘Vivegam’. However, his role of an middle aged man in ‘Viswasam’ demanded a bulky physique and he maintained the same look in ‘Nerkonda Paarvai’ as well. Fans are already excited to see the actor in a fit avatar once again.

‘Nerkonda Paarvai’, which is the official remake of acclaimed Hindi film ‘Pink’, will be Ajith’s next to hit screens. The movie is scheduled for release on August 10. Ajith is reprising the role played by Amitabh Bachchan in the original. Shraddha Srinath is essaying the role played by Taapsee Pannu. The movie marks Vidya Balan’s debut in Tamil as she plays the role of Ajith’s wife. Kalki Koechlin is also making a guest appearance in a song.

‘Nerkonda Paarvai’ has high expectations since Ajith is doing something different from the regular commercial format after a very long gap. It must be noted that ‘Pink’ was a widely acclaimed film that went on to win a National award.The Tamil version is also expected to do well.

Mohanlal’s fascination for magic and fantasy is well known. The veteran actor is so inclined to the magical world that he has even performed magic shows live on stage. He is all set to take another plunge, this time a theatre project in collaboration with famous mentalist Aathi. Last day, Mohanlal wrote in his Facebook page that he will be teaming up with Aathi for a project named ‘In Conversation with Fireflies’. More details regarding the same are expected to be revealed in the coming days.

On similar lines, Mohanlal’s directorial debut that he recently announced is also set in the fantasy world. Titled as ‘Barroz’, the film is based on a mythical story set in the Portuguese backdrop. It is the story of Barroz, a mythical figure who was the gaurdian of Vasco da Gama’s valuable treasures for 400 years. Jijo Punnoose, the visionary filmmaker who made India’s first 3D film ‘My Dear Kuttichathan’, has penned the story. Pre-production works the movie has already started as it is scheduled to start rolling in October.

Mohanlal meanwhile has a couple of acting commitments pending. He still has a month of shoot left for ‘Ittymaani Made in China’, a comedy entertainer directed by debutants Jibi and Joju. After its completion, Mohnalal will start shooting for ‘Big Brother’, directed by Siddique.

The latest we hear is that Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty is also part of the cast. He is reportedly playing the villain role in the movie. Prateik Babbar who was earlier revealed as playing a negative role, is said to be essaying the role of Suniel Shetty’s son. The makers are yet to confirm this news.

‘Darbar’ has Rajinikanth in role of a Mumbai based police officer. It has been decades since the star last played a cop, so fans are highly excited about it. Suniel Shetty is said to be cast in the role of a corporate tycoon, with whom Rajinikanth’s character locks horns with. Lately, the superstar’s films, except for ‘Kaala’ to an extent, have lacked a solid villain. It will be interesting to see the rivalry between Suniel Shetty and Rajinikanth.

‘Darbar’ has an efficient technical crew headlined by ace cinematographer Santosh Sivan, composer Anirudh Ravichander and veteran editor Sreekar Prasad. Ram-Laxman duo is choreographing the stunts. Lyca Productions is producing this movie, which has been scheduled for a Pongal release in January.

As we already know, Dulquer Salmaan is starring in the movie adaptation of Anuja Chauhan’s 2008 best seller novel, The Zoya Factor. Abhishek Sharma is directing the movie and Sonam Kapoor plays the titular role of Zoya. Fox Star Studios and Adlabs Films are jointly funding the movie. The makers are earlier announced that the movie will be hitting screens on June 14 but it has now been postponed to September 20.

‘The Zoya Factor’ is centred around Zoya Singh Solanki, a PR executive. Zoya was born on the exact moment when Indian cricket team had lifted the 1983 World Cup. She is considered as a lucky charm by the Indian team and media. While everyone consider her lucky, team’s captain Nikhil Khoda and Zoya are always hostile to each other. The former doesn’t believe in luck and relies only on the team’s performance. Zoya keeps clashing with the Indian skipper, and what follows is a love-hate relationship.
