Dulquer Salmaan’s Sukumara Kurup starts rolling

It has been over two years since it was announced that Dulquer Salmaan would be starring in a movie about Sukumara Kurup, Kerala’s most real life character, till date. Srinath Rajendran of ‘Second Show’ and ‘Koothara’ fame is directing the movie, which has finally gone on floors. KS Aravind and Daniel Sayooj Nair have scripted the movie after over five years of research works. Last day, the director took to his official social media handle to inform that the movie has started rolling.

Srinath’s Facebook post reads,

“Grateful to the almighty for this day, on which we announce the good news that “Kurup” goes on floor from today . We took around 5 years of our sweet time working on this epic and I, personally, thank Dulquer Salmaan for being with us through out this journey. Details regarding the crew, cast and other whereabouts will be announced soon.. Here is a “fan made” poster done by a very talented friend Sani Yas, which I liked very much and felt should get released officially today. Saimaa here it is..

When the project was first announced in June 2017, there were concerns about how the makers will showcase the life of a notorious criminal like Sukumara Kurup on screen. Dulquer, then, had made it clear that they will not be glorifying him or make him seem as a good person.

Sukumara Kurup is accused of murdering Chacko by strangling him to death and burning his body inside a car. Kurup allegedly committed the crime to fake his own death and claim an insurance amount of Rs 8 lakhs by killing Chacko who bore a resemblance with him. He is supposed to have fled abroad after the incident and has been absconding for over thirty years now. The Chacko murder case is one of the long standing cases in the judicial history of Kerala.

Mammootty’s Ganagandharvan to start rolling from June first week

As reported by us earlier, Ramesh Pisharody’s next directorial venture is with megastar Mammootty. The movie titled as ‘Ganagandharvan’ tells the story of a ‘ganamela’ singer named Kaladasan Ullas. Pisharody and Hari Nair have jointly scripted then movie, which is touted to be a full-on fun entertainer. As per latest reports, the makers have planned to start shooting from June 1. Mammootty will be joining the team shortly after wrapping up his ongoing commitments.

‘Ganagandharvan’ has an elaborate supporting cast which includes four heroines. Three them are said to be newcomers, but their names are yet to be revealed. Manoj K Jayan, Suresh Krishna, Hareesh Kanaran, Maniyanpilla Raju and Dharmajan Bolgatty are also part of the supporting cast.

Mammootty meanwhile is busy shooting for the period flick ‘Maamaankam’, directed by M Padmakumar. After the completion of ‘Ganagandharvan’, the actor will be teaming up with Ajai Vasudev for a mass entertainer. ‘Ameer’ with Vinod Vijayan, ‘Bilal’ with Amal Neerad,and ‘One’ scripted by Bobby-Sanjay are his other upcoming projects.

Mammootty starrer Unda’s trailer to be out soon

Mammootty’s much awaited cop flick ‘Unda’ is getting ready for release next month. Khalidh Rahman is directing the movie, which is said to be an action-comedy. The makers have finished the dubbing and are planning to release the trailer release shortly, likely on May 30. Official word will be made soon. Though a confirmation regarding the release date has not yet been given, the movie is most likely to hit screens on June 6.

‘Unda’ story revolves around a set of events that occur when an unit of policemen from Kerala reach the Maosit areas in Chhattisgarh for election duty. Mammootty’s character Manikandan CP heads the unit. The eight-member team of police constables comprises of Shine Tom Chacko, Jacob Gregory, Rony David, Arjun Ashokan, Noushad Bombay, Gokulan, Abhiram and Lukman.

The movie’s teaser, which was released earlier this month, gives a clear picture of what to expect from it. It looks like a completely realistic film without any superstar glorification or other commercial gimmicks. Krishnan Sethukumarr is producing the movie under the banner of Movie Mill in association with Gemini Studios.

Chunkzz sequel titled as Dhamaka

Director Omar Lulu had recently announced that ‘Chunkzz’ team will be coming together once again for his next film. The sequel has been titled as ‘Dhamaka’ and it is all set to start rolling. All the major actors from the first part, including Balu Varghese, Honey Rose, Ganapathi, Dharamajan, Lal and Hareesh Kanaran part of the sequel as well. ‘Chunkzz’ was a youthful comedy entertainer that got heavily panned by the critics but still managed to emerge as a big hit at the box office. The makers will be hoping to repeat the success this time as well.

Earlier, there were reports about Omar trying to rope in famous pornstar Mia Khalifa for ‘Chunkzz 2’. It was reported that a Mumbai based production company had also initiated talks with the representatives of Mia Khalifa, but nothing materialized.

It is worth a mention that Omar Lulu had announced two other projects – one a love story with ‘Oru Adaar Love’ fame Noorin Sheriff and another an action film with Babu Antony in the lead. Their current status is not yet known. He is also penning the story of a rural based love story, which will be directed by Roshni Dinaker of ‘Love Story’ fame. The movie which has an all new cast is produced by Omar’s own banner Omar Lulu Entertainments.

As reported by us earlier, Parvathy is starring in actor-turned-filmmaker Sidhartha Siva’s new film ‘Varthamanam’. National award winner Aryadan Shoukath has scripted the movie based on the issues faced by college students in New Delhi. The makers have released a few stills of the movie, which has been shot in Mussoorie and Uttarakhand.

Director Sidhartha Siva is well known for helming films like ‘101 Chodyangal’, ‘Ain’, and ‘Sakhavu’. His debut film ‘101 Chodyangal’ had won him the National Film Award for Best Debut film of a Director in 2012. Two years later, his film ‘Ain’ won another National Award for Best Feature Film in Malayalam. Expectations will be high when such a talented filmmaker teams up with a proven actress like Parvathy, also a National award winner.

Parayuvaan song from Ishq continues to trend virally

Shane Nigam starrer ‘Ishq’, which hit screens last Friday (May 17), continues to do well in theatres. The movie is still getting appreciation from the viewers, which includes both critics and the commoners. Prior to the movie’s release, it was the song ‘Parayuvaan’ that helped a great deal in publicity.

The romantic track rendered by popular South Indian singer Sid Sriram is making waves across all music platforms. It is currently ranked at number one position on Saavn and Gaana. Among the top 200 Indian regional tracks in iTunes, ‘Parayuvaan’ is placed at the fifth position. The song is composed by Jakes Bejoy lyrics is penned by Joe Paul.

‘Ishq’ is directed by debutant Anuraj Manohar and scripted by Ratheesh Ravi of ‘Pullikkaran Staraa’ fame. Shane Nigam and ‘Ezra’ fame play Ann Sheetal play the lead roles. Shine Tom Chacko, Jaffer Idukki and Leona Lishoy have essayed other prominent roles in the movie.
The movie has cinematography by Ansarsha and edits by Kiran Das. It is produced by Mukesh R Mehta, AV Anoop and CV Sarathy under the banner of E4 Entertainment.

We had recently reported about Karthi teaming up with director Lokesh Kanagaraj for a movie titled ‘Kaithi’. Its second look poster was released last day on the eve of Karthi’s birthday. The makers have informed that the movie’s teaser will be out on May 30. SR Prakashbabu and Prabhu of Dream Warrior Pictures is producing the movie.

Director Lokesh Kanagaraj made his debut in 2017 with the superhit action-thriller ‘Maanagaram’. He is also in talks for Thalapathy Vijay’s next film. His new movie ‘Kaithi’ has Karthi playing a jail convict. The poster looks intense with blood shades all over and it hints at another action packed flick. Sathyan Sooryan of ‘Theeran’ fame has cranked the camera and music is by Sam CS.
