Arvind Swamy and Simbu to team up for MGR biopic

As we already know, multiple Tamil films are currently being planned based on the life of late Tamil Nadu Cheif Minister J Jayalalithaa. Likewise, a biopic is also set to made on MG Ramachandran, who was popularly known as MGR. Arvind Swamy will be playing MGR and Simbu will be essaying the role of MR Radha. The movie will be directed by Ike of ‘Sangili Bungili Kathava Thora’ fame.

This upcoming movie will focus more on the political life of MGR. For the uninformed, MGR and MR Radha were colleagues in the film industry. The latter shot MGR in the throat in 1967 over an altercation. There are several theories regarding the reason for the same. The movie is expected to throw more light on what exactly happened between the two.

Veteran actress Radikaa Sarathkumar, who is the daughter of MR Radha, is producing the movie under the banner of Radaan Media. Interestingly, director Ike is also the nephew of Radikaa. The makers are planning to start shooting in August.

Thalapathy 63: Title of Vijay-Atlee film revealed!

Of late, in Kollywood, we have seen that the titles of big star films will be revealed only at the fag end of the movie’s shoot. The title revelation itself creates a big excitement among the fans. Following the trend, the title of Vijay’s ongoing film with Atlee has not yet been revealed. The makers are planning to formally announce the title along with the first look poster on Vijay’s birthday, which falls on June 22.

But lately there is a buzz going around that the movie has been titled as ‘Vaathiyar’, which literally translates to ‘Master’. It must be noted that legendary actor-politician MGR was fondly called as ‘Vaathiyar’ by the Tamil masses. The makers are yet to confirm the title, but it sounds apt for a Vijay starrer.

Thalapathy 63, which is the tentative title, is confirmed to be sports-based entertainer. Vijay plays a footballer named Michael and will be appearing both as a player and a coach in the movie. Nayanthara plays the female lead. Bollywood actor Jackie Shroff, Kathir, Induja, Varsha Bollamma, Yogi Babu, Vivek, Daniel Balaji, Anand Raj and many others are part of the cast.

The movie has music composed by AR Rahman and cinematography by ‘Mersal’ fame GK Vishnu. AGS Entertainment is producing the movie, which is scheduled for a grand Diwali release in October.

Excellent initial response for Oru Yamandan Premakadha

The year long wait for Dulquer Salmaan’s comeback to Malayalam has finally come to an end as ‘Oru Yamandan Premakadha’ (OYP) has hit screens today. Debutant BC Naufal is directing the movie and the superhit writer duo of Bibin George and Vishnu Unnikrishnan have scripted it.

‘OYP’ as promised is a full-on fun filled mass entertainer on the lines of the writer duo’s previous films, ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’ and ‘Kattappanayile Rithwik Roshan’. The intial response from theatres and social medias suggest that the movie is a clean entertainer that the audience of all ages groups can enjoy the movie. It seems like Dulqer has made his comeback in style.

OYP has a big supporting cast comprising of a host of comedy actors in Hareesh Kanaran, Dharmajan Bolgatty, Salim Kumar, Suraj Venjaramoodu Soubin Shahir, Vishnu Unnikrishnan, Baiju Santhosh, Ashokan, Bibin George and Sunil Sukhada. The movie has ‘Theevandi’ fame Samyuktha Menon as the female lead.

Anto Joseph is producing OYP under his banner, Anto Joseph Film Company. Since it is a holiday season, the movie is expected to have a good run with the help of family audience.

Slow Motion: Check out this new song from Salman Khan’s Bharat

After garnering excellent response to the trailer, the makers of Salman Khan starrer ‘Bharat’ have released the first single. The song titled ‘Slow Motion’ features Salman and Disha Patani. Vishal, Shekhar, Nakash Aziz and Shreya Ghoshal have rendered the track. Meghdeep Bose has arranged and produced the song, lyrics for which is penned by Irshad Kamil.

‘Bharat’ directed by Ali Abbas Zafar is the official adaptation of the 2014 Korean war drama, ‘An Ode To My Father’. The original film depicted modern Korean history from the 1950s to the present day through the life of an ordinary man and all major events that occurred in the country. From the trailer, we get to see Salman Khan appearing in multiple looks. The story traverses different timelines starting from 1947 to the current period.

‘Bharat’ is the journey of a country and also a person, both of whom go by the same name. Jackie Shroff, Katrina Kaif, Sunil Grover, Aasif Sheikh, Sonali Kulkarni and Nora Fatehi are also part of the cast. The movie is scheduled to hit screens worldwide on June 5. Atul Agnihotri, Alvira Khan Agnihotri, Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar are jointly producing the movie.

Much awaited trailer of Virus to be released tomorrow

Aashiq Abu’s Virus is one of the most anticipated films of the year. The multi-starrer film is gearing up to hit screens. The makers have planned to release the trailer tomorrow (April 24). The trailer launch will be held at Sports Stadium, Doha, Qatar. The movie based on last year’s deadly Nipah outbreak in Kerala is scripted by Muhsin Parari of ‘Sudani From Nigeria’ fame and Suhas-Sharfu, the writers of ‘Varathan’.

The cast of ‘Virus’ includes Tovino Thomas, Asif Ali, Kunchacko Boban, Indrajith Sukumaran, Parvathy, Rima Kallingal, Poornima Indrajith, Remya Nambeesan, Revathy, Madonna Sebastian, Soubin Shahir, Rahman, Dileesh Pothan, Savitri Sreedharan, Sarasa Balussery, Shebin Benson, Jinu Joseph, Basil Joseph, Indrans, Sharafudheen, Sreenath Bhasi, Joju George, Senthil Krishna, Sudeesh and Vettukili Prakash.

‘Virus’ also has a strong technical crew comprising of cinematographers Rajeev Ravi and Shyju Khalid, music director Sushin Shyam and editor Saiju Sreedharan. Aashiq Abu and Rima Kallingal are producing the movie under the banner of OPM.

Mohanlal’s new film ‘Ittymaani Made In China’ went on floors last day with a customary switch on ceremony. The movie directed by debutant duo Jibi and Joju is said to be an action comedy entertainer. Honey Rose has been signed as the female lead. Veteran Tamil actress Radikaa Sarathkumar will also be appearing in a prominent role in the movie.

Interestingly, it is after three long decades that Mohanlal and Radikaa are acting together. The last film in which they shared screen space was ‘Koodum Thedi’, which was released 34 years back in 1985. Radikaa was present for the switch on last day. She has also tweeted about her excitement in working with Mohanlal after all these years. Her tweet reads,

Recently, a crew member named Saravanan was injured when the focus light used for shooting fell accidentally on his head. Vijay personally visited Saravanan at the hospital and wished him a speedy recovery. This kind gesture from the actor has won hearts as the news has gone viral in social medias.

Biopics on famous sports personalities are nothing new in Bollywood. Recently, there is a buzz about Katrina Kaif starring in the biopic of athlete PT Usha. Ad filmmaker Revathy S Varmha, who has directed a few films in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam, will be helming the biopic. Though Priyanka Chopra was the original choice two years back, it didn’t materialize due to some unknown reasons.

PT Usha is regarded as one of the queen of Indian track and field. A winner of the prestigious Padma Shri and Arjuna Awards, Usha has represented India in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. At the final, she came fourth, at 55.42 seconds, falling behind the eventual bronze medalist by 1/100th of a second. Usha has won a total of 101 international medals. She is currently employed as an officer in the Southern Railways and also coaches young athletes at her training academy in Kerala.

It will be interesting to see how Katrina Kaif plays PT Usha’s part. Reports suggest that director Revathy had recently met Katrina and narrated the script. The movie is being planned to be made in English, Hindi, Chinese and Russian besides other Indian languages. An official confirmation is still awaited.
