Here’s the first look of Sanal Kumar Sasidharan’a Chola

Last day, when the Kerala State Awards were announced, team ‘Chola’ had enough reasons to celebrate. The movie’s lead actors – Joju George and Nimisha Sajayan bagged the best actor awards. Their performance in ‘Chola’ were taken into consideration along with ‘Joseph’ and ‘Oru Kuprasidha Payyan’. ‘Chola’ director Sanal Kumar Sasidharan got a special jury mention for direction as well as sound design. Last day, a four-minute-long sneak peak video was released by the makers. This intriguing clip features Joju and Nimisha.

Sanal Kumar Sasidharan is a much revered filmmaker in Malayalam film cricles. He has made acclaimed films like ‘Oraalppokkam’, ‘Ozhivudivasathe Kali’ and ‘S Durga’. His films are devoid of the usual commercial elements and instead stresses on the socio-political issues in the society. All the aforementioned films were critically acclaimed and have won him awards at the regional and international level. ‘Chola’ is also expected to be a movie on similar lines.

Along with direction, Sanal is also handling the edits and sound design in ‘Chola’. He has also scripted the movie jointly with KV Manikandan. Ajith Aacharya is the cinematographer and music is by Basil CJ and Sergey Cheremisnov. The movie is being produced by Shaji Mathew and Aruna Mathew.

As reported by us recently, the blockbuster Vijay Sethupathi-Trisha starrer ’96’ is getting remade in Kannada and Telugu. The Kannada version titled ’99’ has Ganesh and Malayali actress Bhavana in the lead roles. The movie’s first look poster was released recently on Valentine’s Day. A few more stills have been released by the makers now. The movie is being directed by Preetham Gubbi and produced by Ramu Films. ’99’ also happens to be the 100th project for the film’s music director Arjun Janya.

Bhavana, who has been away from movies post her marriage, is making a comeback of sorts with ’99’. She was last seen in Kannada in the blockbuster Shiva Rajkumar starrer ‘Tagaru’. ’99’ will be her second film with Ganesh after sharing screen space with him in ‘Romeo’.

Oru Yamandan Premakadha first look to be released on March 1

‘Oru Yamandan Premakadha’ (OYP) is the much awaited comeback film Dulquer Salmaan in Malayalam. With this movie, he is set to make a return to his turf after over a year. Directed by BC Noufal, the movie is touted to be a full-on commercial mass entertainer. The superhit writer duo of Bibin George and Vishnu Unnikrishnan have scripted the movie. The makers have informed that the first look poster will be out on March 1.

‘OYP’ is touted to be a colourful mass entertainer on the lines of the writer duo’s previous works, ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’ and ‘Kattappanayile Rithwik Roshan’. According to the makers, Dulquer will be seen as a local Malayali chap in the movie. Nikhila Vimal and ‘Theevandi’ fame Samyuktha Menon play the two female leads. Soubin Shahir, Salim Kumar, Arun Kurian, Hareesh Kanaran, Dharmajan Bolgatty, Bibin George and Vishnu Unnikrishnan are also part of the supporting cast. Nadirshah is composing the songs.

Anto Joseph is producing the movie under his banner, Anto Joseph Film Company. An official word regarding the release date is still awaited.

Last day, the crew members of ‘Porinchu Mariam Jose’ were in a celebratory mood after it was announced that four members working in the movie bagged the prestigious Kerala State Award. The movie’s lead actor Joju George won the award for best character actor for his performance in ‘Joseph’ and ‘Chola’. ‘Sudani From Nigeria’ fame Sarasa Balussery won the same award in the female actor category. Makeup man Ronex Xavier and choreographer Prasanna were the other two award winners. ‘Porinchu Mariam Jose’ team hosted a party and cake cutting to honour the award winners. They have also shared the photos in social medias.

‘Porinchu Mariam Jose’ directed by Joshiy has Joju and Nyla Usha in the lead roles. The movie scripted by Abilash N Chandran is said to be a Trissur based family drama cum thriller. Chemban Vinod Jose and Innocent will also be seen in other prominent roles.

On the technical front, Ajai David Kachappilly is wielding the camera and music is by Jakes Bejoy of ‘Ranam’ and ‘Queen’ fame. Shyam Shashidharan will be handling the edits. Rejimon is producing the movie and David Kachappilly Movies will be presenting it in association with Kirthana Movies.

‘Unda’ is an action comedy entertainer that has Mammootty playing the role of sub-Inspector. Along with him, the movie also stars Vinay Forrt, Arjun Ashokan, Jacob Gregory, Shine Tom Chacko, Sudhi Koppa, Lukman and director Ranjith. Asif Ali is also said to be essaying a crucial cameo role in the movie.

For action choreography, the makers have signed Sham Kaushal from Bollywood. Krishnan Sethukumar of Movie Mill is presenting ‘Unda’ in association with Gemini Studio. The movie is expected to hit screens by the second half of the year.

Confirmed: Anirudh to score music for Rajinikanth’s next with AR Murugadoss

As reported by us earlier, superstar Rajinikanth’s next film will be directed by AR Murugadoss. Though the movie is yet to be officially announced, the director had confirmed the project already. Santosh Sivan has been signed as the cinematographer. Latest addition to the camp is Anirudh Ravichander. The composer confirmed the same in a recent interview. This will be his second film with Rajinikanth after ‘Petta’. He has also collaborated with director Murugadoss previously in the Vijay starrer ‘Kaththi’.

According to Murugadoss, his upcoming movie with Rajinikanth will be a complete mass entertainer just like how the fans expect. Casting and other pre-production works are currently on at full swing. Sun Pictures is most likely to produce this movie. It must be noted that the production house was recently associated with both Rajinikanth and Murugadoss in ‘Petta’ and ‘Sarkar’, respectively.

Official announcement regarding this high profile project is expected to be made shortly.

Dileep starrer Kodathi Samaksham Balan Vakeel hit screens last Thursday (February 21) and opened to good response, particularly at the Kerala box office. The fact that the movie had an extended weekend run helped in taking a solid opening. Though the critic reviews have been mixed, theatre response suggests that common audience have lapped up the movie.

As per the makers, the movie has grossed Rs 10 crore from its worldwide theatrical collections alone. Along with that, the satellite and remake rights for the Telugu and Hindi versions have been sold for a huge price. These reports suggest that the movie has already entered the profit zone. Dileep’s popularity and the support of the family audience is helping the movie massively.

‘Kodathi Samaksham Balan Vakeel’written and directed by B Unnikrishnan falls under the genre of a suspense-drama-cum-thriller with comedy elements in it. Dileep’s role of a struggling lawyer with a stuttering problem has earned him appreciation. Others in the cast include Priya Anand, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Aju Varghese, Renji Panciker, Vamsi Krishna, Harish Uthaman, ‘Kalakeya’ Prabhakar, Bindu Panicker and Siddique.

The movie is produced by Viacom 18 Motion Pictures, a production giant based in Bollywood.

The first look poster of ‘Uyare’ has been released in social medias. The movie starring Asif, Parvathy and Tovino Thomas in major roles is directed by debutant Manu Ashokan, a former associate of late filmmaker Rajesh Pillai. All the three lead actors feature in the poster. National award winners Bobby and Sanjay have scripted the movie based on some real-life incidents.

‘Uyare’ has Parvathy playing Pallavi, an air hostess, who later becomes an acid attack victim. The actress will be undergoing a completely new makeover, for which a special prosthetics team have been roped in. Prior to the shoot, Parvathy had also visited the Sheroes cafe in Agra to learn more about the lives of acid attack victims. The cafe is run by a group of women who survived acid attacks. Asif reportedly plays Parvathy’s lover in the movie.

Shoot for the much awaited multi-starrer ‘Virus’ came to an end last day. The team shot together for 52 days. Aashiq Abu is directing the movie which is based on last year’s deadly Nipah outbreak in Kerala. ‘Virus’ is scripted jointly by Muhsin Parari of ‘KL 10 Pathu’ fame and Suhas-Sharfu, the writers of ‘Varathan’. Along with star studded cast, the movie also has a strong technical crew, which includes National award winning cinematographer Rajeev Ravi, Shyju Khalid, music director Sushin Shyam and editor Saiju Sreedharan.

Aashiq Abu and Rima Kallingal are producing the movie under the banner of OPM. ‘Virus’ has been scheduled for April release during the Vishu season.
