Here’s the highly anticipated teaser of Suriya’s NGK

As announced earlier, the teaser of Suriya’s NGK has been released today on the occasion of Valentine’s Day. Directed by Selvaraghavan, NGK is a political drama in which Suriya plays the role of an MLA. The teaser introduces with the voice over of his character Nanda Gopala Kumaran. From the teaser we presume that the story is about how an ordinary commoner plunges into the world of politics.

The teaser is highly intriguing with Suriya showing unique mannerisms and gestures. Yuvan Shankar Raja’s thumping background score also helps in the mass appeal. Director Selvaraghavan enjoys a huge fan following among the Tamil audience and since it is his first film with Suriya, expectations are on the higher side. Fans and common audience alike are eagerly looking forward to the movie.

Rakul Preet Singh and Sai Pallavi will be seen as the female leads while Telugu actor Jagapathi Babu plays the villain role. The movie’s core technical crew comprises of music director Yuvan Shankar Raja, cinematographer Arvind Krishna and editor Prasanna GK. SR Prabhu of Dream Warrior Pictures is producing the movie.

NGK is expected to hit screens worldwide in May.

Megastar Mammootty’s highly anticipated film, ‘Madura Raja’ is currently in the final stages of shoot. The movie directed by Vysakh is actually a spin-off on Mammootty’s character from his 2010 blockbuster film, ‘Pokkiri Raja’. Udhayakrishna, who wrote the original along with Sibi K Thomas, has scripted this one independently. Today, on the occasion of Valentine’s Day, the makers have released a new poster of the movie featuring Mammootty and Jai. The movie marks the latter’s debut outing in Malayalam.

Along with sharing the poster through his social media handle, director Vysakh also informed that a the movie’s audio and motion poster will be out today evening at 7 PM. Madura Raja has music composed by Gopi Sunder. Sunny Leone has also performed a special dance number along with Mammootty. The movie has four female leads in Anusree, Shamna Kasim, Anna Reshma and Mahima Nambiar. Jagapathi Babu will be seen as the villain.

Nelson Ipe is producing the movie, which is scheduled for a grand Vishu release in April.

Shoot for Mammootty’s ambitious period flick, Maamaankaam, is currently progressing at Kannavam forests in Kannur. After the ousting of its original director Sajeev Pillai, M Padmakumar has taken up the project. Following the various controversies, the makers have gone for a complete overhaul in the cast and crew. Unni Mukundan, Kaniha and Anu Sithara were new additions to the cast.

Reportedly, Anu Sithara will be paired with Unni in the film. The role was first offered to her two years back but she could not commit then due to her busy schedule. Now that the opportunity has come once again, she could not let go off it. Anu is excited about bagging a prominent role in such a big project. She has already started shooting for her portions.

‘Maamaankam’ is based on the medieval fair, Maamaankam, where brave warriors from across the country would come together to showcase their skills at combat. Mammootty plays the lead role of a fiery ‘Chaaver’ (warrior) in this movie, which revolves around the life of warriors who plot to defeat the Zamorin rulers. Unni Mukundan is also said to be playing a warrior’s role in the movie. Other details will be revealed shortly.

Venu Kunnappilly is producing ‘Maamaankaam’ under the banner of Kavya Films. The makers are planning to wrap up the shoot quickly and release the movie this year itself.

Last day, director Vinayan took everyone by surprise by announcing that he would soon be teaming up with superstar Mohanlal. It must be remembered that the two have always been in opposite sides during the various conflicts within the industry. There was a time when almost the entire industry were against Vinayan and actors faced an unofficial ban for acting in his movies. But all that is a thing of last now, as Vinayan states that artistes should not hold grudges for a lifetime.

Though Vinayan has worked with several big stars like Mammootty, Vikram, Prithviraj and Dileep, the director had not collaborated with Mohanlal till the announcement came last day. Vinayan says that he has three scripts ready for Mohanlal and after a few rounds of discussion, they will soon finalize the project. Since both parties are currently busy with other commitments, their film will only happen in 2010.

Vinayan will soon start works for a sequel to his superhit horror flick, ‘Akashanganga’. Mohanlal on the other hand has multiple projects lined up. He is presently shooting for Priyadarshan’s ‘Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham’. His Tamil film with director KV Anand, also starring Suriya, is also progressing simultaneously.

‘Big Brother’ with director Siddique, ‘Ittymaani Made In China’ with director duo Jibi-Joju and an untitled film with Arun Gopy are Mohanlal’s other projects in the pipeline. His next release will be the Prithviraj directorial ‘Lucifer’, which is scheduled for release by March end.

Lucifer and Oru Yamandan Premakadha to clash at the box office

If reports are to be believed, Malayalam industry is set to witness a huge box office clash this summer. Mohanlal’s highly anticipated film ‘Lucifer’ is already scheduled for release on March 28. Latest reports suggest that Dulquer Salmaan’s ‘Oru Yamandan Premakadha’ is also releasing on the same day. If it happens, it is perhaps the first time the two actors are coming face to face.

Dulquer and Mohanlal are arguably the biggest stars in Malayalam in terms of their crowd pulling capacity. It will be interesting to see who among the two emerges as the winner. ‘Lucifer’ is a political thriller which marks the directorial debut of actor Prithviraj. Mohanlal plays a grey-shaded politician’s role in the movie. The very fact that these two leading stars are coming together for the first time has skyrocketed the expectations. Besides that the movie also boasts of a stellar star cast comprising of Indrajith Sukumaran, Vivek Oberoi, Tovino Thomas and Manju Warrier.

On the other hand, ‘Oru Yamandan Premakadha’ (OYP) is a kind of film that Dulquer has not done so far in his career. Directed by BC Noufal, the movie is touted to be a full-on commercial mass entertainer. The superhit writer duo of Bibin George and Vishnu Unnikrishnan have scripted the movie. ‘OYP’ will be a colourful mass entertainer on the lines of the writer duo’s previous works, ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’ and ‘Kattappanayile Rithwik Roshan’. The movie also marks Dulquer’s comeback to his home turf after over a year, so expectations are multifold.

Yatra: Ram Gopal Varma praises Mammootty for immortalising YSR forever

Mammootty’s Telugu film ‘Yatra’ has taken a big opening with positive reports from all corners. Critics and commoners alike have appreciated the earnest effort of the makers. Written and directed by Mahi V Raghav, the movie is based on the late Andhra Pradeesh Chief Minister YS Rajasekhar Reddy aka YSR’s historical three-month-long padayatra. It was a changing point in his political career which propelled his image as the people’s leader.

Mammootty’s performance as YSR has found unanimous appreciation. The actor has not tried to mimic YSR but perform the role in his own authentic style. His Telugu dialogue presentation has also been highly praised. YSR’s score followers were impressed by how Mammootty played their leader’s role. Veteran filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has praised Mammootty for immortalizing YSR forever with his powerful performance. RGV has tweeted,

As reported by us recently, Kalidas Jayaram has signed for a new film titled ‘Happy Sardar’. Writer-director couple Sudip Joshy and his wife Geethika Sudip are making their debut this movie. Kalidas is playing a Punjabi Sardarji in the film. His character is named Happy Singh. The makers have released a couple of posters featuring Kalidas in the Punjabi attire. The movie comes with the tagline, ‘the great Indian wedding comedy’.

‘Happy Sardar’, according to the makers, is a fun entertainer with a love story between a Sardar and a Malayali Christian girl at its core. A debutante has been signed as the female lead. Bollywood actor Javed Jaffrey is also playing a major role. There is also an elaborate supporting cast comprising of Siddique, Sreenath Bhasi, Balu Varghese, Shanthi Krishna, Suraj Venjaramoodu, ‘Aanandam’ fame Siddhi Mahajankatti, Vishak Nair, Ramesh Pisharody, Dharmajan, Praveenaa and Baiju Santhosh.

On the technical front, cinematography will be handled by Abhinandam Ramanujam and music by Gopi Sunder. Shameer Muhammed is the editor. The movie is being produced by Achicha Cinemas and Malayalam Movie Makers.

As expected from the initial response, ‘Vijay Superum Pournamiyum’ has emerged as the first superhit of the year. The Asif Ali starrer has crossed the Rs 25 crore mark from its collections worldwide. The feel-good genre and the subsequent support from the family audience has helped the movie tremendously. This is director Jis Joy’s second successive superhit after ‘Sunday Holiday’, which also had Asif in the lead.

Hitting screens on January 11, VSP opened to largely positive reviews from all corners. Critics and common audience alike have rated the movie as a clean feel-good entertainer. The movie has Asif Ali and Aishwarya Lekshmi in the leads. It discusses about how two individuals coming from different backgrounds struggle to make an identity of their own.

Jis Joy has scripted the movie with equal prominence to friendship, romance and family sentiments. Along with the lead pair, there is also an elaborate supporting cast comprising of Shanthi Krishna, Renji Panicker, Devan, Siddique, KPAC Lalitha, Balu Varghese, Darshana Rajendran and Joseph Annamkutty Jose.

After a super successful first month of theatrical run in Kerala, ‘Vijay Superum Pournamiyum’ (VSP) got released in GCC and all major ROI centres. The response there has also been positive.

The story of ‘Mera Naam Shaji’ story is by Dileep Ponnan and Shani Khader. The former has also penned the screenplay and dialogues. The story is centred around three individuals named Shaji, who are from different parts of Kerala. While Baiju plays the Shaji from Trivandrum, Asif Ali is the Shaji from Ernakulam and Biju Menon’s character is from Kozhikode. Nikhila Vimal plays the female lead in the movie.

The movie’s technical team includes DOP Vinod Ilampally, editor Johnkutty and debutant composer Emil Muhammed. Like Nadirshah’s earlier films, this one will also be a complete fun filed mass entertainer. B Rakesh of Universal Cinema is producing the movie.

‘Kammarasambhavam’ fame Rathish Ambat to direct Mammootty’s Marakkar?

Talks about Mammootty’s Marakkar have not yet settled down. The project was officially announced by August Cinema couple of years back but there have been no further developments. Santhosh Sivan was supposed to helm the film but he is currently busy with multiple commitments. The latest we hear is that the makers are in talks with director Rathish Ambat, who shot to fame with ‘Kammarasambhavam’, to take up the film. Buzz is that August Cinema will be associating with Joby George’s Goodwill Entertainment for the production.

Rathish Ambat, a popular ad-filmmaker, made his feature film debut last year with the Dileep starrer ‘Kammarasambhavam’. Though the movie failed to reap the desired results at the box office, it got critical accalim and found a following among the general audience after its DVD release. Rathish’s work was widely appreciated and he was deemed as a promising talent to watch out for.

Recently, Murali Gopy had revealed that his next will be with Rathish. It remains to be seen if the director takes up Marakkar first. Let’s wait for an official word from the makers side.
