Vinayan and Mohanlal to team up for the first time

Director Vinayan has been in the industry for nearly three decades. Though he has worked with several big stars like Mammootty, Vikram, Prithviraj and Dileep, the director has not worked with Mohanlal yet. It seems like their collaboration is on cards as Vinayan through a post in his Facebook handle hinted that they will soon teaming up for a new project. Though the story has not yet been finalised, he confirmed that it will be a big scale film.

As per Vinayan’s post, script works for his film with Mohanlal would start once he wraps up the shoot of his next film, which is set to go on floors in March. The director is known for his penchant for trying VFX heavy films, though most of them have been panned heavily by the critics and common audience alike. It will be interesting to see what kind of subject he comes up with for Mohanlal, whose fan base is second to none in the industry.

Mohanlal is currently shooting for Priyadarshan’s period flick, ‘Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham’. His Tamil film with director KV Anand, also starring Suriya, is also progressing simultaneously. ‘Big Brother’ with director Siddique, ‘Ittymaani Made In China’ with director duo Jibi-Joju and an untitled film with Arun Gopy are his other projects in the pipeline. His next release will be the Prithviraj directorial ‘Lucifer’, which is scheduled for release by March end.

Dulquer Salmaan’s next release in Malayalam will be ‘Oru Yamandan Premakadha’ (OYP). The movie marks the comeback to his turf after over a year. Directed by BC Noufal, the movie is touted to be a full-on commercial mass entertainer. The superhit writer duo of Bibin George and Vishnu Unnikrishnan have scripted the movie. Shoot has almost got over with a day’s patch up work left.

‘OYP’ is shaping up as colourful mass entertainer on the lines of the writer duo’s previous works, ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’ and ‘Kattappanayile Rithwik Roshan’. In a recent interview, Dulquer revealed that he has done a dance number in the film. With the arrival of realistic films, the concept of cinematic dance numbers are slowly changing in Malayalam industry. So it will be refreshing to see Dulquer in the old-school enjoyable dance song. Prioe the shoot, the actor even had to rehearse the steps thoroughly. Veteran Brinda master has choreographed the song.

According to the makers, Dulquer will be seen as a local Malayali chap in OYP. Nikhila Vimal and ‘Theevandi’ fame Samyuktha Menon play the two female leads. Soubin Shahir, Salim Kumar, Arun Kurian, Hareesh Kanaran, Dharmajan Bolgatty, Bibin and Vishnu Unnikrishnan are also part of the supporting cast. Nadirshah is composing the songs.

Anto Joseph is producing OYP under his banner Anto Joseph Film Company. The movie is most likely to hit screens in April for the Vishu season.

With his last two films, ‘Sunday Holiday’ and ‘Vijay Superum Pournamiyum’ (VSP), director Jis Joy has successfully proven his ability to deliver films that appeal to the majority family audience. While ‘Sunday Holiday’ enjoyed a theatrical run of over 100 days, VSP is well on course to become a superhit. The director, whose last three films were with Asif Ali, is finally ready for a new combination. He is next teaming up with Kunchacko Boban for a family satire.

National award winners Bobby and Sanjay are scripting this movie. This is the duo’s foruth script for Kunchacko Boban after ‘Traffic’, ‘How Old Are You’ and ‘School Bus’. Siddique, Renji Panicker, KPAC Lalitha, Sreenivasan and Mukesh are also part of the cast. The makers have planned to start shoot by May. An official announcement will be made shortly.

Kunchacko Boban meanwhile is busy doing back to back movies. He is currently shooting for Aashiq Abu’s Virus. He will soon be teaming up with director Shaheed Khader, a former associate of late Rajesh Pillai, for a family entertainer which has Nithya Menen as the female lead. Kunchacko Boban has also signed for films with new-age directors Soubin Shahir and John Paul George of ‘Guppy’ fame.

Prithviraj Sukumaran starree 9 continues to garner good response from the audience. Serious cinephiles, in particular, have lapped up the movie calling it an appreciable attempt that is ahead of its time for a comparatively smaller industry like Malayalam.
9 directed by Jenuse Mohammed is a mix genre attempt with an universally appealing storyline and superior technical quality.

Most critics have praised the makers for their attempt in trying something unique in Malayalam. If the early response is anything to go by, 9 is slowly getting acceptance form the common audience as well. After the opening weekend, the movie has grossed around Rs 8 crores from the worldwide box office. In Kerala alone, 9 has raked in around Rs 4.5 crores. From the centres in UAE and GCC, the movie has grossed Rs 2.10 crores while the ROI figures amount to Rs 1.6 crores.

9 stars Prithviraj, Alok and Wamiqa Gabbi in the lead roles. The movie has science fiction, horror and psychological thriller elements. It is the first of its kind film in Malayalam. Prithviraj Productions in association with Sony Pictures International Productions have jointly produced this movie.

As we had reported earlier, Ajay Kumar, aka Guinness Pakru is playing the lead in ‘Ilayaraja’. The movie directed by Madhav Ramdasan is getting ready for release. Recently, actor Jayasurya recorded for a song in the movie. It is after a gap that the actor is lending his voice for a song, and probably the first time he is singing for another actor’s film. Ratheesh Vega has composed the song, which is said to be a peppy track. It is worth a mention that Jayasurya has previously worked with director Madhav Ramdasan in ‘Apothecary’. His performance in the movie was widely appreciated.

‘Ilayaraja’ has Pakru playing the lead role of Vanajan while Gokul Suresh appears in a cameo role as Bryan. Madhav Ramadan has has penned the movie’s story while screenplay and dialogues are penned by Sudeep T George. Deepak Parambol, Harisree Ashokan, Kavitha Nair, Anil Nedumangad, Baby Ardra, Master Adhithyan, Jayaraj Warrier, Alphy Panjikaran, Binish Babu, Thampy Antony and many others are part of the cast.

In the technical front, Pappinu cranks the camera and Ratheesh Vegha handles the music department. Sreenivasa Krishna is the editor. Movie Musical Cutz is presenting the movie in association with Mumbai Cine Talkies. Release date will be announced shortly.

Tovino Thomas and Samyuktha Menon made a great pair in ‘Theevandi’, one of the biggest hits of last year. Their chemistry in the sensational hit song ‘Jeevamshamayi’ was noted. Now, the two are set to reunite for ‘Uyare’. The movie directed by Manu Asokan has Parvathy, Asif Ali and Tovino in the leads. The movie scripted by Bobby-Sanjay is based on some real lives.

While Parvathy plays an acid attack victim, Asif will be seen as her romantic interest. Samyuktha Menon has been roped in to essay a cameo role. Her portions are with Tovino, which was one of the reasons that prompted her to take up the film. It will be interesting to see how the duo look together on screen this time.

Besides ‘Uyare’, Samyuktha has some other interesting films coming up. She is playing one of the female leads alongside Nikhila Vimal in Dulquer Salmaan’s ‘Oru Yamandan Premakadha’. She is also doing an anthology film, which is helmed by four senior directors. Samyuktha has also been signed for Arun Kumar Aravind’s ‘Underworld’, co-starring Asif Ali.

Suriya-Mohanlal starrer Kaappaan likely to release on Independence Day

Shoot for director KV Anand’s biggie ‘Kaappaan’ is progressing at a brisk pace. The makers are reportedly trying to get the movie ready for an Independence Day weekend release in August. Given the movie’s patriotic nature, it will be an ideal slot. The movie starring Suriya and Mohanlal in the leads is touted to be an action packed thriller. Lyca Productions is producing this big budget movie, which has been planned to be shot in multiple countries.

‘Kaappaan’ has Mohanlal playing the Indian Prime Minister’s role while Suriya will be seen as a high-rank National Security Guard (NSG) officer, who is in charge of the PM’s security. Mohanlal and Suriya had shot together for their combination scenes in London, Chennai and in several locations in North India. Arya, Boman Irani, Sayyeshaa and Samuthirakani are also part of the movie’s elaborate cast.

MS Prabhu is handling the cinematography and music is by Harris Jayaraj handles the music department.

Bollywood production giant Viacom 18 Motion Pictures is making their entry to Malayalam industry with this movie. It is scheduled for release on February 21.

‘Lucifer’ is one of the most awaited Malayalam films in recent years. The movie which marks the directorial debut of Prithviraj has superstar Mohanlal in the lead. The actor recently started dubbing for his portions in Kochi. A photo taken with the movie’s scriptwriter Murali Gopy from the dubbing studio has been shared online. ‘Lucifer’ is scheduled to hit screens by the end of March.

‘Lucifer’ is touted to be a mass-packed political entertainer. Besides Mohanlal, the movie also has some other star presence in Tovino Thomas, Vivek Oberoi, Indrajith Sukumaran and Manju Warrier. There is also an elaborate supporting cast comprising of ‘Queen’ fame Saniya Iyappan, Kalabhavan Shajohn, Sai Kumar, Nandu, John Vijay, director Fazil, Sunil Sughatha, Thara Kalyan, Praveena Thomas and Maala Parvathy.

Lucifer’s core technical crew includes cienmatographer Sujith Vaassudev, editor Samjith Mohammed and music director Deepak Dev. The movie is being produced by Mohanlal’s own banner Aashirvad Cinemas. Official word regarding the release date is expected to be made shortly.

As we had reported earlier, director Arun Kumar Aravind’s next movie ‘Underworld’ will have Asif Ali in the lead. As per trustworthy reports, the movie is an action packed revenge thriller. Asif will be working on building his physique for the movie. This is probably the first time that the actor is trying a physical transformation. He will be following a strict diet and fitness regime till the end of the movie’s shoot.

‘Underworld’ also Farhaan Faasil and Jean Paul Lal in major roles. Samyuktha Menon of ‘Theevandi’ and ‘Lilli’ fame and Ketaki Narayan have been signed as the female leads. The movie is being scripted by Shibin Francis, who had earlier penned films like ‘Comrade In America’ (CIA) and ‘Paavada’. Its technical crew includes DOP Alex J Pulickal and composer duo Yakzan Gary Pereira-Neha Nair. Driverude Arun Kumar himself will be handling the edits. D14 Entertainments is producing the movie.
