Ashok Selvan plays a negative role in Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham

As reported by us earlier, promising Tamil actor Ashok Selvan has been roped in to play a major role in Priyadarshan’s ambitious film ‘Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham’. He has already joined the sets and has started shooting for his portions. The actor is noted for his roles in movies like ‘Soodhu Kavvum’ ‘Thegidi’ and ‘Pizza 2’.

In a recent interview, Ashok revealed that he is playing a negative role in Marakkar. He has developed his physique and sports a thick long beard to look like a warrior. It is also worth a mention that he has worked with Priyadarshan previously in the critically acclaimed ‘Sila Samayangalil’ aka Sometimes. Last day, he released his new look from Marakkar through his official social media handle. Along with the photo, he has also tweeted a brief note, which reads,

Marakkar has a star studded cast comprising of some big names like Mohanlal, Pranav Mohanlal, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Prabhu, Arjun, Keerthy Suresh, Suniel Shetty and Manju Warrier. Shoot is currently progressing at Ramoji Rao Film City, Hyderabad.

Aashiq Abu’s Virus gets more stars; Here’s the complete list of actors

Shoot for Aashiq Abu’s movie based on the Nipah outbreak is currently progressing in Kozhikode. The movie titled as ‘Virus’ caught grabbed attention right from the time of announcement thanks to the huge star cast. The makers have now changed a few actors and roped in some others. With a new poster, they have officially announced details about the entire cast and crew.

‘Virus’ cast comprises of Tovino Thomas, Asif Ali, Kunchacko Boban, Indrajith Sukumaran, Parvathy, Rima Kallingal, Poornima Indrajith, Soubin Shahir, Dileesh Pothan, Rahman, Indrans, Remya Nambeesha, Madonna Sebastian, Sreenath Bhasi, Revathy, Joju George, Senthil Krishna and Sharafudheen. After Joshiy’s ‘Twenty 20’, this is perhaps the biggest star cast in a Malayalam movie.

‘Virus’ is scripted jointly by Muhsin Parari of ‘KL 10 Pathu’ fame and Suhas-Sharfu, the writers of ‘Varathan’. The movie is not exactly a real-life story but is inspired from several events that occurred during the Nipah outbreak last May. Contrary to reports, the movie is not an anthology but has interconnected stories set all over Kerala.

Virus’ technical crew includes National award winning cinematographer Rajeev Ravi, composer Sushin Shyam and editor Saiju Sreedharan. Aashiq Abu and Rima Kallingal are producing the movie under the banner of OPM.

Arya to play a major role in Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2

The much-hyped Kamal Haasan starrer ‘Indian 2’ was launched recently. Directed by Shankar, the movie is the sequel to the duo’s classic hit, ‘Indian’. The sequel has Kamal reprising his role of Senapathi, a freedom fighter-turned-vigilante. Ever since the movie was announced there have been speculations about the cast. Names like Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar, Simbu, Dulquer Salmaan and Abishek Bachchan surfaced online.

From trustworthy sources we now hear that the makers of ‘Indian 2’ have roped in Arya. Recently, the actor had posted a work out video of his and he looked heavily built. It is said that the Arya is getting his physique ready before the start of shoot. An official confirmation in this regard is still awaited. Besides ‘Indian 2’, Arya is playing a prominent role in ‘Kaappaan’ alongside Suriya and Mohanlal.

‘Indian 2’ has Kajal Agarwal as the female lead. Veteran Malayali actor Nedumudi Venu will also be reprising his investigating officer’s role from the first part. Delhi Ganesh is also part of the cast. The movie is scripted by Shankar and dialogues in the movie are penned by Jeyamohan, Kabilan Vairmuthu and Lakshmi Saravanakumar. Others in the technical crew include music director Anirudh Ravichander, cinematographer Ravi Varman, editor Sreekar Prasad and production designer Muthuraj.

Lyca Productions is producing this big budget movie. Shoot will be commencing once Kamal joins the team. The actor is currently on a state wide actor ahead of the assembly elections.

Confirmed: Vidya Balan plays Ajith’s wife in Pink Tamil remake

As reported by us earlier, Ajith’s next is with director H Vinoth of ‘Theeran’ fame. The movie, tentatively titled ‘Thala 59’ is the official remake of acclaimed Hindi film, ‘Pink’. Ajith is reprising the role played by Amitabh Bachchan in the original. The makers have confirmed that they adapted the original script to include a few characters.

Vidya Balan has been signed to play the role of Ajith’s wife in the movie. The same character in the original was paralyzed and had nothing much to do. In the Tamil version, Vidya’s role will be brief but an important cameo. The movie marks her maiden outing in Tamil cinema.

Shraddha Srinath, noted for her roles in movies like ‘Vikram Vedha’ and ‘U Turn’, has been roped in to reprise Taapsee’s role. Others in the cast include Abhirami Venkatachalam, Andrea Tariang, Rangaraj Pandey, Arjun Chidambaram, Adhik Ravichandran, Aswin Rao and Sujith Shankar. The movie has music by Yuvan Shankar Raja and cinematography handled by Nirav Shah.

Biopics, especially sporting biopics have been much in demand in Bollywood. After Milkha Singh, Mary Kom, Mohammed Azharudeen, MS Dhoni and Sachin Tendulkar, legendary cricket captain Kapil Dev is also getting a biopic made on him. ‘Bhajrangi Bhaijaan’ director Kabir Khan is helming the movie which has Ranveer Singh as Kapil. The movie has been titled as ’83’ and its pre-production works are currently progressing.

As per latest reports, the makers have roped in Tamil actor Jiiva to essay the role of former Indian cricket team opener
Krishnamachari Srikanth. Jiiva, who has a cricketing background having played the game in various levels, has already started training for the movie. He will be losing around seven kilos to look lean and young like Srikanth of the 80s. The movie marks his debut in Bollywood.

The Kabir Khan directorial chronicles the journey of Indian cricket team towards winning the 1983 World Cup in England. Kapil Dev captained the team and Srikanth was the dashing opening batsman. Reportedly, the movie’s cast also includes Deepika Padukone as Kapil’s wife Romy, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui as the team coach. Shoot will be commencing in London from March.

Tovino Thomas starrer Luca starts rolling

Last year, it was announced that Tovino Thomas will be starring in a movie titled ‘Luca’. The movie directed by debutant Arun Bose has finally started rolling today. The whole cast and crew of the movie was present for the launch today. According to the makers, ‘Luca’ is a romantic entertainer with Tovino and Ahaana Krishna of ‘Njan Steve Lopez’ fame playing the lead roles.

Director Arun has scripted the movie with Mridul George. Tovino will be appearing in multiple looks in the movie. The actor has always been game for trying new getups and it will be interesting to see his different looks in ‘Luca’. Nimish Ravi will be handling the cinematography and Nikhil Venu is in charge of the edits. Promising youngster Sooraj S Kurup, notes for his works in movies like ‘Valleem Thetti Pulleem Thetti’ and ‘Solo’ has beeb signed as the composer.

The star cast of Priyadarshan’s ambitious film ‘Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham’ keeps growing. The movie already has some big names like Mohanlal, Pranav Mohanlal, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Prabhu, Arjun, Keerthy Suresh, Suniel Shetty and Manju Warrier. ‘Marakkar’ shoot is currently progressing at Ramoji Rao Film City, Hyderabad. The movie based on the life of Kunjali Marakkar IV has superstar Mohanlal playing the titular role. Marakkar is the title given to the naval chief of the Zamorin rulers. The story set in the 15th century is about how Marakkars fought against the invading Portugese army.

‘Marakkar’ is being made as one of the most expensive movies ever in Malayalam cinema. Mohanlal’s Aashirvad Cinemas, Confident Group and Moonshot Entertainment are jointly producing the movie. Production designer Sabu Cyril, cinematographer Tirru, editor MS Ayyappan Nair and a Los Angeles-based VFX studio are part of the technical crew.

Uyarnd Manithan starring SJ Suryah and Amitabh Bachchan to start rolling soon

Last year, it was officially announced that filmmaker-turned-actor SJ Suryah and Amitabh Bachchan will be coming together for a movie titled ‘Uyarndha Manithan’. The movie to be directed by ‘Kalvanin Kadhali’ fame Tamizhvaanan is set to go on floors by the end of March. Amitabh Bachchan has reportedly given 40 days from his busy schedule for the film. He will be shooting his portions in a single stretch.

‘Uyarndha Manithan’ has been planned as a bilingual in Tamil and Hindi bilingual with Thiruchendur Murugan productions is backing it. The movie was first in news in 2016 when director Tamizhvaanan approached Amitabh Bachchan with the script. It took over two years for the makers to convince the superstar and get him on board. This will be Bachchan’s debut Tamil film after ruling the Indian film industry for over four decades.

Peranbu is having its theatrical release after a wait that lasted almost for almost two years. This Ram directorial tells the story of a doting father and his mentally challenged girl child. Mammootty and ‘Thanga Meengal’ fame Sadhana play the lead roles. The movie grabbed attention after the unanimously positive response it got from various international film festivals. The movie was screened at Rotterdam international film festival (IFFR) and Shanghai festival. Its Indian premiere was held at the International Film Festival of India, Goa (IFFI). After the festival screenings and preview shows, critics are of the opinion that Mammootty and Sadhana will be strong contenders for all top awards including the National Film awards.

Yatra marks Mammootty’s return to Telugu cinema after a two decade long gap. The movie written and directed by Mahi V Raghav has Mammootty playing late Andhra Pradeesh CM YS Rajasekhar Reddy. Said to be one of the most challenging roles in Mammootty’s career, the veteran has put in a lot of efforts to play the part. Yatra is an event based film that focuses on the time during YSR’s famous three-month-long padayatra, which was a changing point in his political career. YSR is a highly respected politician and the Telugu audience are eagerly waiting to see how Mammootty plays the role of their leader.

As per reports, the movie will be released in three languages – Telugu, Malayalam and Tamil – simultaneously. The movie will have its USA premiere on February 7 while the theatrical release will be on the next day. Yatra is getting ready as the biggest ever release in Mammootty’s career.

Asif Ali starrer Vijay Superum Pournamiyum (VSP) had hit screens across Kerala on January 11. The movie opened to positive reviews, both from the critics and common audience. After a decent start in the opening week, the movie gradually picked up and has made an impressive comeback. As per reports from collection trackers, the movie has earned almost 80% of its budget from the theatrical share itself. The movie has crossed the Rs 3 crore mark from its run in Kerala box office alone.

After the successful run in the home state, VSP has also released in GCC centres. The movie has been released in almost all major centres like Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, Oman, Bahrain, Qatar and Kuwait. The movie has been rated as a clean feel-good entertainer with families comprising the large section of the audience. The movie is most likely to continue its good run in the coming weeks as well.

Directed by Jis Joy, VSP has Asif Ali and Aishwarya Lekshmi in the leads. The movie has prominence to humour, friendship, romance and family sentiments.
