Karthik Subbaraj’s next after Petta is with Dhanush!

Karthik Subbaraj is unarguably one of the most talented filmmakers in Kollywood. Despite being just five films old, the youngster has carved a niche for himself in the industry. His latest film ‘Petta’ with superstar Rajinikanth has emerged as a huge blockbuster and everyone is eager to hear about his next. Much before ‘Petta’, it was announced that Karthik will be teaming up with Dhanush but the project got delayed due to multiple reasons.

Latest reports suggest that Karthik’s film with Dhanush is set to resume shortly. The movie is said to be a gangster story based in London. Earlier, it was reported that a leading actor from Hollywood will be playing a major role alongside Dhanush in the movie. But there were no further updates. Y Not Sashikanth of ‘Iruddhi Suttru’ and ‘Vikram Vedha’ fame is producing the movie. An official word regarding when the movie goes on floors is expected to be made soon.

Prithviraj believes that Shajohn will be a good filmmaker; Brother’s Day to start rolling soon

As we had reported earlier, actor Kalabhavan Shajohn is turning a director with ‘Brother’s Day’ starring Prithviraj in the lead. Since the latter is known to be very choosy with his films, naturally there were questions about what prompted him to take up this film. Apparently, Shajohn had approached Prithviraj with the script two years back to get an idea about who will be apt to direct it. Impressed by the script and the detailing in it, the actor asked Shajon himself to direct it.

Prithviraj has high hopes on the movie and believes that Shajohn will make a good filmmaker. Earlier while announcing the project, Prithviraj had written in his Facebook page,

Couple of years back, Shajohn chetan (Yup..our own Kalabhavan Shajohn) came to me and read a fully bound script that he had written. He wanted me to act in it and also take a call on who would be the best choice to direct his script. But in the way he had written it, and in the detailing of his narration..it was pretty obvious to me that only one person could direct his script. HIMSELF!

According to Prithviraj, the movie will be a full-on commercial entertainer. It is after a four-year-long gap that he is doing something completely commercial like this. More details regarding the other and crew members, and when shoot commences will be revealed shortly.

Sajeev Pillai removed from Maamaankam team; M Padmakumar signed as the new director

Maamaankam, the period flick starring Mammootty has been in the news for all the wrong reasons. The movie has been put on hold after issues between the director Sajeev Pillai and production team. Venu Kunnappilly of Kavya Films is producing this ambitious project. In a recent press meet, the producer explained in detail about all that has happened during the past one year.

Maamaankam went on floors in mid-2018 with a brief 10-day schedule in Mangalore. After the first couple of schedules, the producer was unhappy with the quality of the output and the excessive budget used. He wanted to replace Sajeev Pillai but upon intervention by FEFKA and film producers council, it was decided that a creative director would be roped in for assistance.

The film body members suggested M Padmakumar, who had recently helped Shrikumar Menon in the making of Odiyan. But Padmakumar was initially hesitant to be part of Maamaankam due to all these issues. Finally, after insistence by the associations, he joined the team as the creative director with the condition that the final call was on the movie’s sets was his. However, Sajeev Pillai could not accept this and refused to join the team.

The makers have now decided to go ahead with the shoot with M Padmakumar alone as the director. The team has already started shooting for the third schedule in Kannavam forest. Set works are also progressing in the famous Varikassery Mana. Mammootty, Unni Mukundan and others are expected to join the sets soon. Despite all the delay, the makers are planning to wrap up the entire shoot by March and release it by the end of this year.

Mani Ratnam pulls off a casting coup yet again!!

Legendary filmmaker Mani Ratnam has been working on the adaptation of historical novel ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ for years now. He had shelved the project back in 2012 due to the huge production cost involved but it is now heard that the director is collaborating with Lyca Productions for adapting the five volume novel penned by Kalki Krishnamurthy. The novel has several important characters and buzz is that Mani Ratnam is assembling a plethora of stars once again after his recent multi-starrer blockbuster, ‘Chekka Chivantha Vaanam’.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that the director is in talks with leading actors like Vijay Sethupathi, Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Dulquer Salmaan. There also reports about Thalapathy Vijay doing a look test for the movie recently. The makers are yet to give an official word but the possibility of these actors coming together for this dream project of Mani Ratnam cannot be dismissed as such.

The success of films like ‘Baahubali’ have shown that spectacle heavy films and multi-starrers have huge takers among the Indian audience. If Mani Ratnam manages to pull off ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ with such a big star cast, it will be nothing short of an epic.
