Absolutely superb, can’t wait to see the film: Karan Johar on 9 trailer

The much awaited trailer of Prithviraj’s ‘Nine’ aka ‘9’ was released online, just a while back. The movie directed by Jenuse Mohammed of ‘100 Days of Love’ fame is touted to be a first of its kind science-fiction attempt in Malayalam cinema. The trailer also proves the same with its extraordinary visual quality that is hitherto seen in Malayalam. Within a hour of its release, the trailer is grabbing eyeballs across industries.

Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar seems to have been highly impressed by the trailer as he shared the link on his official Twitter handle and wrote,

What an absolutely superb trailer Prithvi!!!!! Can’t wait to see the film!!!

Karan seems to be very close to Prithviraj as he had ealrier shared the trailers of ‘Tiyaan’ and ‘Lucifer’.
9 is special for Prithviraj for many reasons. He is venturing to production with this movie. His newly launched banner Prithviraj Productions is producing the movie jointly with Sony Pictures International Productions.

9 is scheduled for release on February 7. Meanwhile, the makers are coming up with innovative ways. The trailer will be telecast simultaneously on 15 leading television channels today at 9 PM. It is the first time in the history of Malayalam cinema that a movie is having such a big trailer release.

As informed by the makers, the trailer of Prithviraj’s ‘Nine’ aka ‘9’ was released online, just a while back. The movie directed by Jenuse Mohammed of ‘100 Days of Love’ fame is touted to be a first of its kind science-fiction flick in Malayalam. Prithviraj is venturing to production with this movie. His newly launched banner Prithviraj Productions is producing the movie jointly with Sony Pictures International Productions.

The trailer of Nine will also be telecast simultaneously on 15 leading television channels. The trailer will be screened exactly at 9 PM in Asianet, Surya, Asianet Movies, Surya Movies, Asianet Plus, Manorama News, Kairali, Kochu TV, Surya Comedy, Amrita, News 18 Kerala, Kairali, Kairali We, People, Asianet HD and Zee Keralam. It is the first time in the history of Malayalam cinema that a movie is having such a big trailer release.

Nine, according to the makers is a science fiction film with a strong emotional core. The movie also stars ‘Godha’ fame Wamiqa Gabbi, Mamta Mohandas and Prakash Raj in major roles. It also has a solid technical crew comprising of cinematographer Abhinandan Ramanujam, editor Shameer Muhammed and composer Shaan Rahman. ‘Da Thadiya’ actor Sekhar Menon is handling the original music score.

Nine was supposed to hit screens last year but it could not materialize due to the extensive post-production works. It is now scheduled for release on February 7.

Phars Film bag the overseas rights of Lucifer

The highly anticipated ‘Lucifer’ which marks the first time coming together of Mohanlal and Prithviraj is gearing up for release in March. While the post-production works are still progressing, the makers have struck a deal with Phars Film Co LCC for the movie’s overseas release. Reportedly, the rights have been signed for a whopping price, said to be among the highest for a Malayalam movie. Phars is one of the biggest distributors in the Middle East and ‘Lucifer’ is expected to have a wide release in the region.

Starring Mohanlal in the lead, the movie marks the directorial debut of actor Prithviraj. Murali Gopy has scripted the movie which is touted to be a mass-packed political entertainer. The movie also has some other star presence in Tovino Thomas, Vivek Oberoi, Indrajith Sukumaran and Manju Warrier. Details about the plot or the nature of the characters have been tightly guarded.

‘Lucifer’ is produced by Mohanlal’s own banner Aashirvad Cinemas. Ths movie is scheduled for release on March 28.

Renji Panicker to script Jeethu Joseph’s next

Recently, the general body meeting of Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) was held at Eranakulam Town Hall. The new office bearers of the union was elected in the meeting. Renji Panicker was elected as the president and GS Vijayan was chosen as the general secretary.

Jeethu Joseph and OS Gireesh have been elected for the vice president post. Sohan Seenulal and Baijuraj Chekavar will be the joint secretary. Salam Bappu is the treasurer. The executive committee members include B Unnikrishnan, Sibi Malayil, Shafi, Ranjith Sankar, Arun Gopy, Siddharth Siva and G Marthandan. During the general body, it was also announced that the FEFKA union will be producing a movie.

Jeethu Joseph will be directing the movie and it will be scripted by Renji Panicker. As per trustworthy reports, the movie will have a superstar in the lead. There is buzz going around that either Mohanlal or Mammootty will be part of the movie. An official confirmation in this regard is still awaited.

Meanwhile, Jeethu Joseph is busy working on the post-production of ‘Mr & Mrs Rowdy’ starring Kalidas Jayaram and Aparna Balamurali. The movie is scheduled to hit screens next month. Jeethu also has his debut Hindi film getting ready for release. The movie reportedly titled as ‘The Body’ has Emraan Hashmi, Rishi Kapoor and Vedhika in the lead roles.

For the last couple of years, Kunchacko Boban has been continuously doing back to back movies. The actor is set to continue the same this year as well as he already has a handful of projects coming up. He is next teaming up with director Shaheed Khader, a former associate of late Rajesh Pillai, for a family entertainer. Shaheed himself has scripted this movie. He had earlier directed the Tamil movie, Chennaiyil Oru Naal, which was the remake of hit Malayalam movie, Traffic.

As per the makers, it is a story about the relationship between a husband and wife. Nithya Menen has been roped in to play Kunchacko Boban’s wife. The latter plays a sports enthusiast in the film, which is entirely set in the city of Kolkata. This is Nithya Menen’s second outing with Kunchacko Boban after working together in VK Prakash’s Poppins. E4 Entertainment is producing the movie, which is expected to go on floors shortly.

Kunchacko Boban is currently awaiting the release of Allu Ramendran. He has also signed for films with new-age directors Soubin Shahir and ‘Guppy’ fame John Paul George. Meanwhile, Nithya has wrapped up shooting for TK Rajeev Kumar’s ‘Kolambi’. Her next release will be ‘Praana’, a multilingual psychological horror thriller in which she is the only character present.

Pranav Mohanlal starrer ‘Irupathiyonnaam Noottaandu’ is one of the most anticipated films in the first quarter of the year. The movie is gearing up to hit screens this month-end, during the Republic Day weekend. Written and directed by Arun Gopy, the movie is touted to be an action-packed adventure thriller. It is being produced by Tomichan Mulakupadam under his banner Mulakupadam Films.

A few stills of Pranav Mohanlal from the sets of Irupathiyonnam Noottandu has been released by the makers in social medias. Pranav looks extremely stylish in the photos and has a certain liveliness that was sorely missed in his debut film, Aadhi. The young actor plays an adventure junkie in the film.

Debutante Zaya David plays the female lead. Others in the cast include Siddique, Innocent, Abhirav, G Suresh Kumar, Manoj K Jayan, Dharmajan Bolgatty, Bijukuttan, Tini Tom and Kannada actor Harish Raj. Gokul Suresh will also be appearing in a cameo role. As we already know, KV Anand’s next has Mohanlal, Suriya and Arya in major roles. The movie titled as Kaappaan has Mohanlal the Indian Prime Minister’s role. A few location stills of his character is currently doing the rounds in social medias. Sporting a salt and pepper look, the veteran looks convincing in the part. If reports are to be believed his character named Chandrakanth Varma is a grey-shaded one.

Kaappaan has Suriya playing a high-rank National Security Guard (NSG) officer, who is in charge of Prime Minister’s security. Mohanlal and Suriya had shot together for their combination scenes in London, Chennai and in several locations in North India. Shoot is still progressing and the makers have planned to shoot in over ten different countries.

Kaappaan has Sayyeshaa as the female lead. Boman Irani, Samuthirakani and Prem Kumar are also part of the cast. The movie has cinematography by MS Prabhu and music by Harris Jayaraj. Lyca Productions is producing this big budget movie.

Director Siva plans to reunite with Ajith for a historical film after Viswasam

Thala Ajith’s eagerly awaited rural mass entertainer Viswasam is all set to hit screens this coming Thursday (January 10). The Siva directorial is releasing amidst high expectations thanks to the promising promos. According to the makers, Viswasam is a clean commercial entertainer that families would love to watch during this festive season.

Viswasam is Ajith’s fourth film with director Siva after Veeram, Vedhalam and Vivegam. Apparently, the director is planning another film with Ajith. This time it will be a historical project. In a recent interview, when asked if the project is still on cards, he said, “Yes, it is. I definitely want to do it. It may happen in the future.”

While Veeram and Vedhalam were regular mass entertainers that emerged as box office hits, Vivegam was an ambitious attempt in making a spy-thriller. The movie made on a huge budget with a big star cast failed to impress the critics and bombed at the box office. Ajith and Siva will be hoping to return back to winning ways with Viswasam.

As per reports, Ajith currently has signed for two films with Boney Kapoor’s production company. Both the films will reportedly be helmed by H Vinoth of ‘Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru’ fame. Shoot for the first film, Thala 59, has already commenced. It is an official remake of the acclaimed Hindi film, ‘Pink’ in which Ajith reprises the role played by Amitabh Bachchan in the original. Thala 60 is said to be an original script by H Vinoth and will reportedly start rolling by mid 2019.

As informed earlier by the makers, ‘Mikhael’ is scheduled to hit screens on January 18. Starring Nivin Pauly in the lead and Unni Mukundan as the antagonist, this movie is highly anticipated by the Malayali audience. Its teaser will be released online, tomorrow at 6 PM. Directed by Haneef Adeni, ‘Mikhael’ is touted to be a family oriented thriller. Nivin plays a doctor in the film, and Unni Mukundan plays the villain character, named Marco Jr.

Like Haneef’s debut film, ‘The Great Father’, ‘Mikhael’ also promises to be a stylish mass entertainer. All the posters and promo materials released so far indicate the same. The movie has a big supporting cast comprising of Sudev Nair, Manjima Mohan, JD Chakravarthy, Siddique, Renji Panicker, Ashokan, Shanthi Krishna, Kalabhavan Shajon and KPAC Lalitha.
