Prithviraj as Albert in 9; Trailer release date announced

Prithviraj’s highly ambitious film ‘Nine’ aka ‘9’ is gearing up for release in February 7. Jenuse Mohammed of ‘100 Days of Love’ fame is directing the movie. Touted to be a science-fiction flick, it has Prithviraj playing the lead character named Albert. After the intriguing posters, its time for the trailer. The makers have announced that trailer will be released online on January 9.

9 also has ‘Godha’ fame Wamiqa Gabbi, Mamta Mohandas and Prakash Raj in major roles. According to Prithviraj, the movie has an emotional core that deals with a strong father-son bonding. The actor has assured that the movie will offer a new experience for the Malayali audience.

9 has a solid technical crew comprising of cinematographer Abhinandan Ramanujam, editor Shameer Muhammed and composer Shaan Rahman. ‘Da Thadiya’ actor Sekhar Menon is handling the original music score. The movie marks the maiden venture of Prithviraj Productions. Sony Pictures International Productions is also making their entry to Mollywood by jointly funding this project.

Maamaankam shoot to resume this month!

Shoot for Mammootty’s period flick ‘Maamaankam’ was put on hold after completing a couple of schedules. The team had been hit by a few controversies, but leaving all that behind the makers have now planned to resume shoot. Through their social media handle, they have now informed that the next schedule will be commencing by the end of this month.

‘Maamaankam’ is directed by Sajeev Pillai, a former associate of Adoor Gopalakrishnan. The movie is based on the medieval fair, Maamankam, where brave warriors from across the country would come together to showcase their skills at combat. Mammootty plays a ‘Chaaver’ (warrior) in this movie, which revolves around the life of warriors who plot to defeat the Zamorin rulers.

Sajeev Pillai scripted the movie after doing research works for nearly twelve years. The movie went on floors by mid-2018. However, things were not smooth after the first two schedules. Reportedly, the makers had suffered property losses during the devastating floods. It forced a delay in shoot and Mammootty soon got busy with his other projects. Later, the unceremonious ousting of ‘Queen’ actor Druvan also hogged the news. Making things complicated, director Sajeev Pillai had stated that he was unaware of the reason behind Druvan’s exit. Finally, it seems like the makers have resolved all the issues.

Besides Mammootty, ‘Maamaankam’ has a huge star cast with several non-Malayali actors in it. Bollywood actress Prachi Desai, Prachi Tehlan, Malavika Menon and former Miss Tamil Nadu Abhirami V Iyer have reportedly been signed as the female leads. Unni Mukundan, Neeraj Madhav, Sunil Sukhada, Meghanathan and Sohan Seenulal are already confirmed in the supporting cast.

This epic-scale film’s technical crew comprises of renowned cinematographer Ganesh Rajavelu a.k.a Jim Ganesh, action choreographer Kaecha Khamphakdee, editor Sreekar Prasad, music director M Jayachandran and VFX supervisor Kamala Kannan. Venu Kunnampilly of Kavya Films is producing this ambitious project.

We were among the first to report about Sunny Wayne making his Tamil debut with National award winner Raju Murugan’s next. The movie titled ‘Gypsy’ has Jiiva playing the lead role. Sunny is playing an extended cameo in the film as Sakhavu Balan. His character introduction poster was released last day in social medias. The actor looks perfect as a passionate youth leader.

Raju Murugan is a much revered filmmaker in Kollywood circles. Both his previous films – ‘Cuckoo’ and ‘Joker’ won widespread acclaim. ‘Joker’ went on to win the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Tamil. According to the director, ‘Gypsy’ is a message-oriented commercial entertainer with travel and romance as the two major elements.

‘Gypsy’ has another Malayali presence in director Lal Jose. He is said to be playing a performance-oriented role in the movie. Others in the cast include Natasha Singh, Susheela Raman, Raj Kiran and Sathyaraj. The movie has music by Santhosh Narayanan.

‘Gypsy’ produced by Olympia Movies is expected to hit screens in the first quarter of the year.

Official: Ratsasan director’s next is with Dhanush

Last day, Sathya Jyothi Films made two big announcements via their official social media handle. The banner is teaming up with Dhanush for two films. One will be directed by Durai Senthil Kumar of ‘Kodi’ fame and the other one will be helmed by Ram Kumar, who last made the sensational thriller ‘Ratsasan’. Reports suggest that Dhanush is doing these two films for the loss of ‘Thodari’, produced by Sathya Jyothi Films. Durai Senthil Kumar’s film will be the first to go on floors. Vivek-Merwin duo will be composing music for the film. More details are expected to be revealed shortly.

Dhanush now has a highly promising line up of films. He is currently shooting for multiple National award winner Vetrimaaran’s ‘Asuran’. It has also been confirmed that he will be teaming up with ‘Pariyerum Perumal’ director Mari Selvaraj this year. Dhanush’s second directorial, which started rolling in September, has now been put on hold due to budget constraints. Said to be a period flick, the movie has him playing one of the leads. Others in the cast include Telugu superstar Nagarjuna, Aditi Rao Hydari, SJ Suryah, Sarath Kumar and Srikanth.

Mammootty teams up with Nadirshah for ‘I’m A Disco Dancer’

For a while now there have been reports about Mammootty and Nadirshah teaming up. The project has now been confirmed. If reports are to be believed, the movie has been titled as ‘I am a Disco Dancer’. Ashiq Usman will be producing the movie. Last day, the producer updated a Facebook post detailing his banner’s upcoming films in 2019. Though he didn’t reveal the cast, he confirmed about a project with Nadirshah. Rajesh Paravoor and Rajesh Panavally are scripting the movie.

Reports about Nadirshah and Mammootty teaming up first surfaced two years back. It was speculated that Mammootty would be playing a vertically challenged man in the movie. However, that project didn’t materialise. From the title of the newly announced film, it is evident that it will be a complete fun entertainer on the lines of Nadirshah’s previous two superhits – ‘Amar Akbar Antony’ and ‘Kattapanayile Rithwik Roshan’.

Meanwhile, Mammootty is busy working on multiple films. He has a handful of promising films coming up. He is currently shooting for Shankar Ramakrishnan’s directorial debut ‘Pathinettam Padi’, in which he plays a cameo role. He also has two other films in progress – Vysakh’s ‘Madura Raja’ and Khalid Rahman’s ‘Unda’. The next schedule of his epic-period film, ‘Maamankaam’ will be commencing this month.

Besides the ones on floors, Mammootty has also signed for ‘Ameer’, big budget film with director Vinod Vijayan, ‘Ganagandharvan’ with Ramesh Pisharody and a sequel to his 2007 film ‘Big B’. The megastar’s next release will be the YSR biopic ‘Yatra’, scheduled to hit screens on February 8. His highly anticipated Tamil film, ‘Peranbu’ has also been confirmed as a February release, though the exact date has not been announced.

‘Kumbalangi Nights’ is the latest from the famed trio of Dileesh Pothan, Syam Pushkaran and Fahadh Faasil. Madhu C Narayanan, a former associate of Dileesh Pothan and Aashiq Abu, is making his directorial debut with this movie. Besides scripting, Syam Pushkaran is also producing the movie jointly with Dileesh Pothan and Fahadh Faasil. First look poster of the movie was shared by Fahadh just a while back in his official Facebook handle.

Shane Nigam, Soubin Shahir, Sreenath Bhasi and newcomer Mathew Thomas feature in the poster. According to the makers, the movie is a modern family drama set in Kumbalangi, a suburb in the city of Kochi. The aforementioned four actors play brothers while Fahadh Faasil will be seen as the villain.

‘Kumbalangi Nights’ has an excellent technical crew comprising of cinematographer Shyju Khalid, music director Sushin Shyam and editor Saiju Sreedharan. Syam Pushkaran and Dileesh Pothan have launched a new production house named Working Class Hero and ‘Kumbalangi Nights’ is their maiden venture. They are producing the movie jointly with Fahadh Faasil’s banner Fahadh Faasil and Friends.

On New Year’s Day, the making video of Pranav Mohanlal starrer ‘Irupathiyonnaam Noottaandu’ has been released in social medias. The 4 minute long video has glimpses of the crew’s shoot moments. Actors Asif Ali and Dileep also feature in the video – we guess it was shot while the stars paid a casual visit to the movie sets. From the promos so far, the movie looks like a complete entertainer with action, romance and fun.

‘Irupathiyonnaam Noottaandu’ is written and directed by Arun Gopy, who shot to fame with the blockbuster success of his debut film ‘Ramaleela’. The movie has Pranav as an adventure junkie. Debutante Zaya David plays the female lead. The cast also includes Manoj K Jayan, Dharmajan Bolgatty, Bijukuttan, Tini Tom and Kannada actor Harish Raj.

‘Irupathiyonnam Noottandu’ core technical crew comprises of cinematographer Abhinandan Ramanujam, composer Gopi Sunder Sunder, action choreographer Peter Hein, editor Vivek Harshan, sound designer Renganaath Ravee and art director Joseph Nellickal.

Guinness Pakru’s Ilayaraja gearing up for release!

Director Madhav Ramdasan’s next, ‘Ilayaraja’, starring Ajay Kumar, aka Guinness Pakru is gearing up to hit screens. On New Year’s day, the makers have released a special poster featuring two kids, who play major roles in the movie. ‘Ilayaraja’ has Pakru playing the lead role of Vanajan while Gokul Suresh appears in a cameo role as Bryan.

The movie also has a solid supporting cast comprising of Deepak Parambol, Harisree Ashokan, Kavitha Nair, Anil Nedumangad, Baby Ardra, Master Adhithyan, Jayaraj Warrier, Alphy Panjikaran, Binish Babu, Thampy Antony and many others. In the technical front, Pappinu cranks the camera and Ratheesh Vegha handles the music department. Sreenivasa Krishna is the editor.

Director Madhav Ramadasan is well known for his acclaimed films, ‘Melvilasom’ and ‘Apothecary’.
He is making a comeback after a five-year-long gap. With ‘Ilayaraja’, cinephiles are hoping to see another quality film from him. The director himself has penned the movie’s story while screenplay and dialogues are penned by Sudeep T George.

Movie Musical Cutz is presenting the movie in association with Mumbai Cine Talkies. ‘Ilayaraja’ is expected to hit screens in February.

‘Madura Raja’ shoot has been silently progressing for the last few months. This highly anticipated film is a spin-off on Mammootty’s eponymous character from the blockbuster film, ‘Pokkiri Raja’. Mammootty is reprising his role of the Madurai-based don, who speaks broken English and comes across as a fun person unlike the usual rough and tough gangsters. A few leaked stills from the location indicate that Raja is also a politician this time. He represents a party named Tamil Makkal Katchi (TMK). It remains to be seen if the political angle is there just for the sake of a few laughs or if it has a very crucial part in the storyline.

‘Madura Raja’ marks the reunion of writer-director duo of Udhayakrishna and Vysakh after the blockbuster success of ‘Pulimurugan’. According to the director, the movie will be more racy and technically advanced than the first part. Touted to be an action-packed entertainer, the movie has its stunts choreographed by Peter Hein. The makers have planned for a VFX-heavy climax.

‘Madura Raja’ has a huge star cast with Anusree, Shamna Kasim, Anna Reshma and Mahima Nambiar as the female leads. Tamil actor Jai is also said to be playing a prominent role in the movie. The elaborate supporting cast comprises of Nedumudi Venu, RK Suresh, Vijayaraghavan, Salim Kumar, Aju Varghese, Dharmajan, Biku Kuttan, Siddique, MR Gopakumar, Kailas, Bala, Manikuttan, Noby and many others.

Nelson Ipe is producing the movie which is expected to hit screens in the second half of the year.

Dulquer Salmaan’s Tamil rom-com Kannum Kannum Kollai Adithaal (KKKA) has been in the making for some time now. The movie directed by debutant Desingh Periyasamy was supposed to hit screens in December but got postponed due to some unknown reasons. The makers had recently informed that they are working towards an early 2019 release. As a New Year special, a new poster has been released in social medias.

KKKA has ‘Pelli Choopulu’ fame Ritu Varma playing the female lead. Popular television host Rakshan and Niranjani Ahathian also play major roles in the movie. All four actors feature in the poster, which gives vibes of an out and out colourful entertainer. The movie has Dulquer playing the role of Sidharth aka Sid, a happy-go-lucky IT professional.

Unlike his earlier Tamil films, KKKA will have some stylish heroic elements as his character has a larger-than-life persona. The actor himself has said that KKKA will be more colourful and louder than the films that he has been doing lately.

It is also said that Dulquer will be making his Tamil playback singing debut with this film. Popular music band Masala Cafe have been signed to compose for the movie.
