Karthik Subbaraj directorial ‘Petta’ is gearing up to hit screens next month. A new poster of the movie featuring Rajinikanth and Simran has been released today in social medias. The two actors are coming together for the first time and movie lovers are eagerly waiting to see their on-screen chemistry. They reportedly play a couple in the movie.

‘Petta’ has an incredible star cast, probably the biggest in Kollywood in recent years. Vijay Sethupathi, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Bobby Simha, Trisha, Malavika Mohanan and Megha Akash are playing major roles. Guru Somasundaram, Munishkanth Ramdoss, Manikandan Achari, Sanath Reddy, Deepak Paramesh and ‘Aadukalam’ Naren will be seen in supporting roles.

Reportedly, the movie has Rajinikanth playing the role of a hostel warden, who has a lesser known gangster like dark past. Vijay Sethupathi and Nawazuddin are reportedly playing the antagonists. ‘Petta’ teaser and songs have got tremendous reception and the movie is expected to be a huge blockbuster.

Kalanithi Maran is producing movie under the banner of Sun Pictures. It is a scheduled for a grand Pongal release in January, but the exact date has not yet been revealed.

Fahadh Faasil starrer ‘Njan Prakashan’ has undoubtedly emerged as the Christmas winner with unanimously positive reviews, from the critics and common audience alike. The movie which marks the reunion of Sathyan Anthikad and Sreenivasan has been rated as a perfectly made entertainer for the families this holiday season.

A new song from the movie has now been released today in social medias. This track titled ‘Omal Thamara’ is rendered by Yadhu S Marar and Shaan Rahman. BK Harinarayanan has penned the lyrics and is composed by Shaan.

‘Njan Prakashan’ marks Fahadh’s second outing with director Sathyan Anthikad after the successful ‘Oru Indian Pranayakadha’. The movie is a typical Sreenivasan style satire that has Fahadh Faasil playing the titular role. Nikhila Vimal is paired with Fahadh in the movie while Sreenivasan has also essayed a crucial role. Manju Sunichen, Aneesh G Menon, Devika Sanjay, KPAC Lalitha and Anju Kurian are also part of the supporting cast.

Sethu Mannarkad of Full Moon Cinema has produced the movie.

Mammootty’s period flick ‘Maamankam’ has been put on hold after completing a couple of schedules. While the team is set to resume shoot, a new controversy has hit the movie. Actor Druvan, noted for his role in ‘Queen’ has been ousted from ‘Maamankam’. Reportedly, the youngster has been removed from the cast without any prior notice. In a recent interaction with media, director Sajeev Pillai said that he was not aware of Druvan’s ousting and added that if the news is true, it might be due to some ego issues. It is a strange comment as the director is the captain and he should be aware of all that’s happening within the team.

According to Sajeev Pillai, Druvan is a hardworking actor who has ready to develop a warrior’s physique for the movie. The young actor had spent around 1 year for his physical transformation and Kalaripayattu training. He was also in the good books of Mammootty, who praised the youngster for his dedication and commitment. Unfortunately, the actor has now been replaced.

Duvan meanwhile has started shooting for the Shafi directorial ‘Children’s Park’, which also has Sharafudheen and Vishnu Unnikrishnan in the lead roles. The movie touted to be a fun entertainer is scripted by Rafi. Shoot is currently underway in Munnar.

Jayaram will be next seen in ‘Lonappante Mammodeesa’, a fun entertainer directed by Leo Thaddeus. The movie’s trailer was officially released through Fahadh Faasil’s Facebook handle. The movie is being produced by Shimnoy Mathew of Pen and Paper Creations.

Director Leo Thaddeus is noted for has made films like ‘Pachamarathanalil’ and ‘Oru Cinemakkaaran’. For his next with Jayaram, the director has signed Kaniha, ‘Angamaly Diaries’ fame Anna Reshma Rajan and Shanthi Krishna as the female leads. Innocent, Eva Pavithran, Nisha Sarang, Alencier Ley Lopez, Hareesh Kanaran, Dileesh Pothan and Joju George have also been cast in various supporting roles.

In the technical crew, Sudheer Surendran will be cranking the camera and Alpons Jospeh will be composing the music. Veteran Rajan Abraham will be handling the edits. The movie will be distributed by ace filmmaker Siddique’s distribution company S Talkies. Release date is expected to be announced very shortly.

As we had reported earlier, Vijay Sethupathi plays a transgender in his upcoming movie, Super Deluxe. The movie is directed by national award winner Thiagarajan Kumararaja of ‘Aaranya Kaandam’ fame. The movie which also stars Fahadh Faasil, Vijay Sethupathi, Samantha, Mysskin and Ramya Krishnan is hugely anticipated by movie lovers.

Vijay Sethupathi is one of the very few mainstream actors in Indian cinema to take up the role of a transgender. Fans and cinephiles alike are eagerly waiting to see his performance. The actor has clearly stated that by playing a transgender’s role, his aim is not to bag awards. In a recent media interaction, he opened up on the reason behind taking up the role.

He is quoted saying, “I didn’t act as a transgender for the sake if winning awards. When director Thiagarajan Kumararaja narrated the script of Super Deluxe, he asked me to take a week’s time and decide whether to play the particular role but I told him that whenever he directs the film, I would play Shilpa. I didn’t meet anyone to prepare for my role. I considered myself as a transgender to perform in the film. Our society consider the transgender section as a curse but they are just like any one of us.”

Super Deluxe has some of the finest talents of South Indian cinema working in it. Directors Mysskin and Nalan Kumarasamy are penning the movie’s dialogues. PS Vinod, noted for his work in several Bollywood movies, is the cinematographer and Yuvan Shankar Raja handles the music department. Release date has not yet been announced.

Tovino’s Christmas release ‘Ente Ummante Peru’ continues to do well with largely positive reviews from the critics. The movie directed by debutant Jose Sebastian follows the journey of Tovino’s character Hameed in search of his mother. The makers have now released a new video song in social medias. The song titled ‘Sanjaaramaay’ is a travel song set around the iconic locations of Lucknow. Najim Harshad has rendered the track with backing vocals by Mohammed Maqbool Mansoor and Midhun Anand. Gopi Sunder has composed the song and BK Harinarayanan has penned the lyrics.

‘Ente Ummante Peru’ has veteran actress Urvasi playing the lead along with Tovino. Critics have rated it as feel-good film that family audiences can enjoy this holiday season. As the title suggests, the movie traces a beautiful relationship between a mother and son. Urvashi-Tovino chemistry is the movie’s USP.

Sunny Wayne to play the lead in actress Gauthami Nair’s directorial debut

Male actors turning directors is very common these days in Malayalam film industry. But it is a rarity to see female actors donning the director’s hat. Gauthami Nair, noted for her roles in movies like ‘Second Show’ and ‘Diamond Necklace’, is all set to turn a filmmaker. Her debut movie has Sunny Wayne in the lead role. Durga Krishna of ‘Vimaanam’ fame has been signed as the female lead. Anoop Menon is also playing a prominent role in the movie. The cast also includes Saiju Kurup, Jacob Gregory, Aneesh Gopalan, Vini Viswalal and Bibin Perumballikunnel.

Gauthami Nair is married to director Srinath Rajendran, who has helmed films like ‘Second Show’ and ‘Koothara’. He is currently working on the pre-production of ‘Kuruppu’ starring Dulquer Salmaan. KS Aravind and Daniel Sayooj Nair, the scriptwriters of ‘Kuruppu’, are penning Gauthami’s debut film as well.

According to our sources within the industry, this yet-to-be titled movie is a neo-noir crime drama. Shoot for the movie will be commencing on December 23 at Thiruvananthapuram. Olivia Seira Raiju of Trivandrum Talkies is producing the movie. More details regarding the title and crew members are expected to be announced very shortly.

Pranav Mohanlal starrer ‘Irupathiyonnaam Noottaandu’ is l expected to hit screens next month. The movie is currently in the post-production phase. Pranav has already started dubbing for the movie. Director Arun Gopy shared a photo taken from the dubbing suite in his official social media handle. Earlier, the movie’s teaser got response from netizens.

‘Irupathiyonnam Noottandu’ is touted to be an action-packed thriller with Pranav playing the role of an adventure junkie. The young actor has reportedly done some risky stunts in the movie, which includes surfing portions, that were shot in Bali. Peter Hein has choreographed the stunts in the movie. Others in the technical crew includes cinematographer Abhinandan Ramanujam, composer Gopi Sunder Sunder, editor Vivek Harshan, sound designer Renganaath Ravee and art director Joseph Nellickal.

Tomichan Mulakupadam is producing the movie under his banner Mulakupadam Films. Official announcement regarding the release date will be made shortly.

Amidst much fanfare, Dhanush’s ‘Maari 2’ hit screens last day. The movie, which is a sequel to his 2015 flick ‘Maari’, is directed by Balaji Mohan. Though the first part was not a big hit, Dhanush’s character sketch and the music was a big rage. Naturally there was a good pre-release buzz and the opening response proves the same. The movie has opened to largely positive reviews with critics rating it as a proper Tamil commercial flick with equal dosage of mass elements, romance and emotions.

Director Balaji Mohan has written a brief note thanking the audience and his team members. His tweet reads,

Along with her, the other actor who won the bulk of appreciation is Tovino Thomas, who plays the villain role in the movie. Krishna, Varalakshmi Sarath Kumar, Robo Shankar and Vinoth play major roles in the movie.
