2.0 Hindi version emerges as the highest grosser of Akshay Kumar’s career

After a week since its release, 2.0 continues to rock the box office. The movie recently crossed the Rs 500 crore mark and is still going strong, both at the domestic and international markets. Both the Hindi and Tamil versions of 2.0 have been doing great business during the working days which is a great sign. With the weekend kicking in, theatres are showing good occupancy. Taking everyone by surprise, the dubbed Hindi version is doing tremendous business. It has crossed the Rs 100 crore mark while also surpassing the lifetime collections of Baahubali: The Beginning (Hindi).

According to trade experts, 2.0 is the biggest hit of Akshay Kumar’s career in terms of box office numbers. Trade analyst Sumit Kadel has tweeted,

Over the last few years, Akshay Kumar has been on a dream run with almost all his films emerging successful commercially. Viswasam satellite rights acquired by Sun TV for a record amount

As we already reported, Thala Ajith’s Viswasam is scheduled for for a grand Pongal release, coming January. The movie touted to be a rural mass entertainer is directed by Siva. As per latest reports from Kollywood medias, Sun TV has acquired the movie’s satellite rights. Though the exact price has not yet been disclosed, it is said to be a record amount for a Ajith starrer.

Viswasam marks Ajith’s fourth outing with director Siva after Veeram, Vedhalam and Vivegam. While Veeram and Vedhalam were commercially successful, Vivegam. failed to impress the audience and bombed at the box office. With Viswasam, the actor-director duo will be hoping to get back to winning ways.

Viswasam has Ajith appearing in two different looks. Nayanthara plays the female lead. The cast also includes Yogi Babu, Vivek, Jagapathi Babu, Ravia Wana, Anikha, Thambi Ramaiah, Bose Venkat, Robo Shankar and Kovai Sarala. The technical crew comprises of cinematographer Vetri, music director D Imman, stunt choreographer Dilip Subbarayan and editor Ruben.

Sathya Jyothi Films is funding the movie. An official announcement regarding the release date will be made only after the censor board clearance.

Dulquer Salmaan and Nani to team up for a multistarrer!!

Dulquer Salmaan is fast establishing himself as a pan-Indian actor. His films like ‘OK Kanmani’, ‘Solo’, ‘Mahanati’ and ‘Karwaan’ have earned him a considerable fan base outside Kerala. Over the last couple of years, the actor has shown more interest in taking films outside his home turf. If reports are to believed, the actor has been offered a multistarrer in Telugu with Nani.

Director Indraganti Mohanakrishna, who is known for his films like ‘Grahanam’, ‘Ashta Chamma’, ‘Golconda High School’, ‘Gentleman’ and ‘Sammohanam’, will helming the megaphone. Dil Raju of Sri Venkateswa Creations will be producing the movie. The makers had initially tried to rope in Telugu actor Sharwanand to share screen space with Nani, but later opted for Dulquer.

Reportely, the ‘Charlie’ actor has been impressed by the script and has given his nod. Pre-production works are already underway and shoot will be commencing only when Dulquer and Nani are free from their prior commitments. The makers are expected to officially announce the film shortly.

Dulquer is currently shooting for ‘Oru Yamandan Premakadha’, directed by BC Noufal and scripted by the superhit writer duo of Bibin George and Vishnu Unnikrishnan. His new Tamil film, ‘Vaan’ with debutant Ra Karthik was officially launched last day in Chennai.

As we already know, SS Rajamouli’s next is with young superstars Ram Charan and Jr NTR in the leads. The movie, tentatively titled as RRR, went on floors last month. The team have already completed the first schedule. Though the makers are yet to make an official announcement about the female leads, buzz is that Keerthy Suresh and Kiara Advani have been approached. Both Keerthy and Kiara are current favourites in Telugu industry, and it will be ideal if Rajamouli can get them on board.

Post-Mahanati, Keerthy enjoys a huge fan following in the Telugu speaking states. Lately, she has been part of several big star films like Sarkar, Saamy Square and Sandakozhi 2. She is also part of the upcoming biggie, Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham. Kiara, who won hearts with M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story, made her Telugu debut this year with the Mahesh Babu starrer Bharat Ane Nenu. She is also the female lead in Ram Charan’s forthcoming release, Vinaya Vidheya Rama.

Expectations are humongous for RRR and naturally so as this is Rajamouli’s next after he made history with the ‘Baahubali’ series. The director’s father, KV Vijayendra Prasad, who usually pens stories for his films, has written the story for this one as well. Rajamouli has written the screenplay and dialogues are by Sai Madhav Burra and Madhan Karky. Reportedly, the movie has been planned to be made on a budget of around Rs 300 crores. It is being produced by DVV Danayya under the banner of DVV Entertainment.

Official: Odiyan to be released in 31 countries!!

We are exactly a week away from the release of ‘Odiyan’, arguably the most hyped Malayalam movie in recent years. The movie is getting ready to storm screens on December 14 amidst massive hype. The pre-release buzz is even bigger than ‘Pulimurugan’, that trade experts believe the movie has the potential to become the next 100 crore grosser from Mollywood. As of now, only ‘Pulimurugan’ and ‘Kayamkulam Kochunni’ feature in the elite 100 crore club.

True to the hype, ‘Odiyan’ is getting a huge release worldwide. According to the makers, the movie will be released in around 4000 screens in 31 countries across the world. Apart from the usual overseas centres like Middle East, UK, US and Australia, the movie will also be opening in countries like France, Poland, Japan and New Zealand. It is releasing simultaneously in Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu languages, which is the first for a Malayalam movie. The movie will be screening with English subtitles.

Last day, director Shrikumar Menon had tweeted,

“Proud moment for Malayalam Cinema. Odiyan set for a truly world release by releasing in 31 countries apart from an all india release on Dec 14th. The interesting fact is that it’s released in Malayalam with English subtitles. #odiyanrisesaroundtheglobe”

Mohanlal’s home production banner Aashirvad Cinemas is funding the movie. Kerala bookings for the movie will be starting in full swing from this weekend.

As we already know, director RS Vimal of ‘Ennu Ninte Moideen’ fame is teaming up with Vikram for an ambitious film on the mythological figure Karnan. Titled as ‘Mahavir Karna’, the movie will be made as a bilingual in Hindi and Tamil, and later dubbed to other languages. Recently, the movie was officially kick-started with a pooja in Sree Padmanabha Swamy temple in Thiruvananthapuram. Shoot for the movie will be commencing in January.

Vikram will be undergoing a completed physical transformation for the film. The actor is well known for the hardwork and efforts he puts in to get into the skin of a character. For the character plays Karna, who is a warrior, he is developing a ripped physique. Besides that he will also be training in horse riding and riding and other related activities.

According to director RS Vimal, the movie will be a retelling of the Mahabharata from Karnan’s point of view. It will have two-and-a-half hour duration, out of which half-an-hour will feature the Kurukshetra war sequence. The art department is currently building a giant chariot, which can accommodate up to 1000 people. Set works are progressing in Ramoji Rao Film City, where major portions of the month will be shot. The pre-visualisation for the entire film is complete. Around 60-70 percent of the film will be dependent on VFX.

The makers have planned a grand launch event where the cast and crew details will be officially announced. It is being widely reported that several top stars from Indian cinema and Hollywood will be part of the movie. It is a mega project planned to be made on an estimated budget of Rs 300 crores. A New York based production house United Film Kingdom is backing this film.

Sydney-based ad-filmmaker Girish Panicker Mattada is making his feature film directorial debut with ‘The Gambinos’, a crime story set in Malabar. Veteran Tamil actress Radikaa Sarathkumar, last noted in Malayalam for her role in ‘Ramaleela’, is playing the lead role. The movie also stars Vishnu Vinay, Sijoy Varghese, Sampath Raj, Salu K George, Sreejith Ravi, Musthafa and Neeraja.

‘The Gambinos’ is the story of a crime family based in the Malabar region. The title is inspired from the dreadful Gambino crime family that dominate organized crime crime activities in the US. According to the makers, it is not a typical crime-action movie that revolves around murders and bloodshed.

The movie attempts to showcase the emotional statuses of crime families, their personal struggles and the illegal activities they carry out. The story about the relationships in crime families is brought together through a character called Mamma, played by Radikaa, and the two generations that come after her. Radikaa and her four sons are referred to by the police department as the Gambinos after the original crime family.

Director Girish is a product of the New York Film Academy in Los Angeles and and SAE Film School in New Zealand. His debut movie’s script is written by Sakkir Madathil. Elban Krishna is the DOP and music department is handled by Jakes Bejoy of ‘Ranam’ and ‘Dhuruvangal 16’ fame.

‘The Gambinos’ is produced by an Australian based film company, Kangaroo Broadcasting. Shoot for the movie has been wrapped. An official announcement regarding the release date is expected to be made soon.

Last day, the second single, ‘Enoruvan’, from Odiyan was released in social medias. Lead actor Mohanlal has lent his voice for the song, which is a folk number. M Jayachandran’s rhythmic beats and Prabha Varma’s lyrics have worked out really well. With over 6 lakh views, the song is virally across all social media platforms. It currently holds the second position in the YouTube trending list. The animations used in the song give Odiyan a desi superhero image.

Odiyan, directed by Shrikumar Menon and scripted by Harikrishnan, is a mass entertainer that is based on the life of odiyans. Tovino Thomas has several projects coming up in the next few months. One of the most promising among them is ‘Kalki’, in which he will be seen as a cop. Praveen Prabharam, who was the associate director in ‘Theevandi’, is making his directorial debut with this movie. Gautham Sankar of ‘Theevandi’ and ‘Ladoo’ fame is the cinematographer.

In a recent interview with Onlookers Media, Gautham revealed that the movie will be a mass entertainer with an out and out Tovino show. The actor has been working on building his physique as the movie is action-packed. It will be a racy film with all commercial gimmicks to suit the demands of a mass flick. The makers are currently busy zeroing in on the locations. They have planned to start shooting from February.

Although Tovino has acted as a policeman in ‘Ezra’ and ‘Tharangam’, ‘Kalki’ will be his first attempt in playing a full fledged cop role. Earlier in an interview, director Praveen had said that Tovino’s character in the movie will be on the lines of Mammootty’s iconic Inspector Balram, who was a brash and forthright police officer. Praveen has scripted the movie jointly with Sujin Sujathan. Suvin K Krishna and Prasobh Krishna are producing the movie under the banner of Little Big Films.
