Unni Mukundan’s ‘Chocolate’ a continuation of Prithviraj’s 2007 film?

Last day, the announcement of Unni Mukundan’s new project was made in social medias. The movie has been titled as ‘Chocolate’, and Binu Peter will be directing it. Santhosh Pavithram is producing the movie under the banner of Pavithram Creations. Interestingly, there was a Prithviraj starrer with the same title, which got released back in 2007. Sethu, who was one of the script writers of that film, is penning this upcoming movie as well. From the tagline ‘Story Retold’, we can confirm that it will not be a sequel or a continuation, but will be a movie on similar lines.

Unni Mukundan took to his social media handle to unveil the title poster. Along with that, he has also written,

It gives me immense happiness to announce our next project, ‘Chocolate – Story retold’. Really excited to be working with this fab team and eagerly looking forward to this one. Here is ‘Chocolate’, from us to you all.

Unni Mukundan meanwhile is busy with the shoot of ‘Mikhael’, in which he plays a prominent role. The movie directed by Haneef Adeni has Nivin Pauly in the lead role. It is said that Unni is playing the antagonist in the movie, but the makers are yet to confirm it. Last year, the actor won appreciation for his villain act opposite Mammootty in ‘Masterpiece’.

Vada Chennai continues to do good business across all the release centres. Releasing on October 17, the movie opened to excellent reviews from both critics and commoners. Many have rated it as one of the finest gangster flicks ever made in Indian cinema. Several celebrities have also showered their praise on the team; latest to do is ace filmmaker Gautham Menon. Last day, he took to his official social media handle to share a couple of tweets. He particularly took the names of director Vetrimaaran, actors Dhanush, Aishwarya Rajesh and Andrea Jeremiah.

Gautham Menon has tweeted,

Vada Chennai is an epic gangster saga that spans different timelines. Despite being given an A certificate for its explicit content, which keeps the family audience away, the movie has emerged as the highest opener in Dhanush’s career. The highly positive word of mouth in social medias is pulling more audience, particularly youngsters, to the theatres. The movie is expected to continue its good run in the coming days as well.

Jeethu Joseph’s movie is yet to be titled but there rumors that the makers have finalized ‘Mister Rowdy’ as the title. Kalidas appears in a bearded new look in the movie. Aparna Balamurali plays his pair while youngsters like Shebin Benson, Ganapathi, Esther Anil and ‘Oru Mexican Aparatha’ fame Vishnu Govindan are also part of the cast.

Kalidas also has a bunch of other exciting projects coming up. He will be seen as one of the leads in Santhosh Sivan’s upcoming directorial, ‘Jack and Jill’, also starring Manju Warrier. Kalidas has also committed for films with Midhun Manuel Thomas and Alphonse Puthren. A film with 100th Monkey Movies, the makers of ‘Rakshadikari Baiju’, is also in the pipeline.

Sunny Wayne starrer French Viplavam is gearing up for release this Friday (October 26). The movie directed by debutant Maju is a fun entertainer set in the 90s. The movie’s first ticket was handed over the honourable district collector of Thiruvananthapuram, Dr K Vasuki IAS. Sunny shared photos taken with the collector on his official Facebook handle. French Viplavam is a period drama set in the early 90s. The makers has released an interesting trailer that gave a good sneak peak of what’s i store. We presume the story to be centred around the fun incidents that occur in a village following the anti-liquor policy that was imposed by the Kerala government in 1996. Newcomers Anwar Ali, Shajeer Sha and Shajeer Jaleel have jointly scripted this movie.

French Viplavam has Sunny Wayne in the role of a chef. His character names Sathyan is a lazy guy working in a village resort who likes to hang around with his friends all the time. Since the time period is different, the actor sports a new look in the movie. His costumes and looks have all been designed accordingly. The movie promises to explore a different dimension of Sunny Wayne, the actor. Newbie Arya Salim has been paired with him. Chemban Vinod Jose, Lal, Sasi Kallinga, Vishnu, Lukman Lukku, Noby, Pauly Valsan, Aristo Suresh, Merin Jose Pottackal, Unnimaya Prasad and Krishna are also part of the movie’s supporting cast.

Pappinu has cranked the camera while Deepu Joseph is handling the edits. Prashanth Pillai is composing music for the movie. It is being produced by Shajeer Jaleel and Jafar Khan under the banner of Abba Creations. Director B Unnikrishnan’s RD Illumination is releasing the movie in over 100 centres across Kerala.

Last year, on Nivin Pauly’s birthday it was announced that the actor would be joining hands with cinematographer-turned-filmmaker Rajeev Ravi for the biopic of N N Pillai. While research works for the same are still progressing, Nivin and Rajeev will be teaming up for another project. As per our sources within the industry, this new film will be made on a big scale with a budget of around Rs 25 crores. More details are expected to be revealed officially very soon.

Nivin Pauly is currently on an all-time high with the sensational success of his latest release, ‘Kayamkulam Kochunni’. The movie continues to do phenomenal business across all the centres. It is fast nearing the Rs 50 crore club and is set to become one of the all time highest grossers in Malayalam cinema history.

Nivin will be next seen in Mikhael, a family-oriented thriller directed by Haneef Adeni. He has also completed a couple of schedules for Dhyan Sreenivasan’s directorial debut, Love Action Drama. It has been a year since director Amal Neerad announced the sequel to Big B, the cult hit starring megastar Mammootty. Fans, cinephiles as well as the industry insiders were highly excited following the announcement, but there were no further updates about the project. It was even reported that the makers dropped the project, but Amal Neead has confirmed that the sequel is very much on. In a recent interview, he revealed that script works are currently underway. They are hoping to start shooting next year. He also added that shoot will be commencing only when he feels thoroughly satisfied with the script.

Big B is widely regarded as one of the most stylish Malayalam films ever. The movie marked the directorial debut of Amal Neerad, who was a noted cinematographer in Bollywood back then. Though Big B was just a mediocre success at the box office, over the years it attained a cult status among the Malayali audience. Mammootty’s restrained and subtle performance as the stylish gangster Bilal was the USP of the movie. Expectations are sky-high for the sequel and Amal Neerad is well aware of it. He is used to the burden of expectations since the early stages of his career and is someone who happily takes up the responsibility.

Amal Neerad is currently working on Fahadh Faasil’s Trance as the DOP. Hit maker Anwar Rasheed is directing the movie, which is an ambitious one planned on a big scale. After completing Trance, Neerad is expected to concentrate solely on Bilal.

As we already know, superstar Rajinikanth’s next after 2.0 is with Karthik Subbaraj. For the last few months team has been shooting in various locations across North India. Finally, the movie has been wrapped up, that too 15 days before the originally planned time. Last day, on the auspicious occasion of Vijayadashami, Rajinikanth took to his official Twitter handle to share the news. He has tweeted,

Replying to his tweet, director Karthik Subbaraj has written,

Thanks thalaivaaaa Best days of my life…. Dream come true…. #Petta shoot wrapped… Thanks to the whole team for making this happen…. Still can’t believe that I directed a Thalaivar film… All feels like a dream… (sic)

Petta is touted to be an action packed thriller. Rajinikanth will be appearing in two different looks in the movie. The movie has a huge star cast, probably the biggest that Tamil cinema has seen in recent years. Vijay Sethupathi, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Bobby Simha, Simran, Trisha, Malavika Mohanan, Sasikumar and Megha Akash will be seen in major roles alongside Rajinikanth. Guru Somasundaram, Munishkanth Ramdoss, Mahendran, Manikandan Achari, Sanath Reddy, Deepak Paramesh and ‘Aadukalam’ Naren are also part of the supporting cast.

Petta’s technical crew includes National award winning cinematographer Tirru, composer Anirudh, editor Vivek Harshan and action choreographer Peter Hein. Kalanithi Maran is producing the movie under the banner of Sun Pictures. As per trustworthy reports, the makers are eyeing a grand release early next year.

The second song from 2.0 has been released in social medias. The song titled ‘Rajaali’ is an energetic track rendered by Sid Sriram, Arjun Chandy and popular rapper Blaaze. Madhan Karky has penned the lyrics, and is set to tunes by maestro AR Rahman. Earlier in the day, the song, Endhira Logathu Sundariye, was also released via Lyca Productions’ official YouTube channel. Audio versions of both the songs were released few months back and emerged as hits.

Writer Sachi, who made his directorial debut in 2015 with the superhit Prithviraj starrer Anarkali, is all set to direct his next. His second film will also have Prithviraj in the lead role. Suraj Venjaramoodu will be playing the other lead in the movie. Script works for this yet-to-be-titled movie is currently progressing. Prithviraj himself will be funding the movie under his newly launched banner, Prithviraj Productions. The makers have planned to go on floors by March, next year.

Prithviraj is currently busy with the works of his maiden directorial, Lucifer starring superstar Mohanlal. As per reports, the ongoing schedule in Vagamon will be wrapped up today. The next leg of shoot will be held in Mumbai. A brief schedule has also been planned in Dubai. The makers have announced March 28 as the release date.

Prithviraj meanwhile has his sci-fi flick Nine aka 9 gearing up to hit screens next month. The movie directed by Jenuse Mohammed marks the maiden venture of the actor’s banner, Prithviraj Productions. Kaaliyan and Aadujeevitham are some of his other projects in the pipeline. He has also signed for actor Kalabhavan Shajohn’s directorial debut, Brother’s Day.
