Kayamkulam Kochunni earns Rs 42 crores from its first week run

The Nivin Pauly starrer Kayamkulam Kochunni continues to do good business at all the release centres. The movie which got released on October 11 has successfully entered its second week of theatrical run. As per official reports from the makers, the movie is nearing the Rs 50 crore mark. From its first seven days of run, the movie has grossed Rs 42 crores. It is well on course to become one of the highest grossing Malayalam movies of all time.

Kayamkulam Kochunni, in all possibility, will become the fastest entrant to the 50 crore club of Mollywood. A simultaneous worldwide release has helped a great deal in the massive initial box office earnings. The movie is performing well not just in Kerala, but in ROI and all major overseas centres as well. In the UAE and GCC region, the movie continues to do tremendous business.

Kayamkulam Kochunni directed by Rosshan Andrrews is the story of Kerala’s legendary highwayman, Kochunni, who was active in the 18th century. Scriptwriter duo Bobby-Sanjay has adapted the movie from the popular folk stories of Kerala and have given their own interpretation to it. Nivin Pauly plays the titular role in the movie and superstar Mohanlal appears in an extended cameo as Ithikkara Pakki. Sunny Wayne, Babu Antony, Priya Anand and Shine Tom Chacko player the other major roles. Made on a budget of Rs 45 crores, it is one of the most expensive movies ever made in Malayalam cinema. Gokulam Gopalan of Sri Gokulam Films has produced the movie.

As we already know, Mohanlal-Ranjith duo’s comeback film Drama is set for release on Kerala Piravi Day, November 1. Expectations are high for the movie as the actor-director combo have collaborated for several memorable films in the past. There is one more reason to wait for Drama’s release as it is now said that the official teaser of Lucifer will be screened alongside it.

Lucifer is one of the most anticipated Malayalam movies in recent years. It marks the directorial debut of actor Prithviraj, and also his first time association with Mohanlal. Shoot for Lucifer shoot is still progressing. The makers have already completed a couple of long schedules in Idukki and Trivandrum. The movie has a huge star cast lead by Mohanlal. Vivek Oberoi, Tovino Thomas, Indrajith Sukumaran and Manju Warrier will be seen in other major roles.

While Lucifer is a political thriller, Ranjith’s Drama is a complete fun entertainer. Mohanlal is playing a fun role after a long gap, and fans are highly excited about it. According to the makers, it is a feel-good movie on the lines of Pranchiyettan and the Saint.

Druvan has lost all his extra weight to develop a ripped physique. Celebrity fitness trainer Shyjan, who has previously trained actors like Unni Mukundan and Tovino Thomas, was the instructor for Druvan as well. The young actor is said to have developed his body muscles for his portions in the period flick, Mamaankam. The movie directed by Sajeev Pillai has megastar Mammootty in the lead. After wrapping up a couple of schedules, the team is currently on a break.

Druvan meanwhile has started shooting for Children’s Park, which also has Sharafudheen and Vishnu Unnikrishnan in the lead roles. The movie touted to be a fun entertainer is scripted by Rafi. Shoot is currently underway in Munnar.

The much awaited teaser of Thalapathy Vijay’s Sarkar will be out tomorrow evening. Fans have been waiting for the teaser for months now. The teaser will be out online by 6 PM. Sarkar is getting ready for release for November 6. Cine lovers have pinned massive expectations on the movie as Vijay’s previous two outings with director AR Murugadoss – Thuppakki and Kaththi – were hugely successful.

Sarkar is a political thriller that has Vijay playing Sundar, a multi-millionaire techie. Circumstances force him to land in politics. The movie basically discusses about the importance of voting and how an ideal government should function. Keerthy Suresh is paired with Vijay in the movie.

Varalaxmi Sarath Kumar is also there in an important character. Pala Karuppaiah, Radha Ravi, Livingston, Yogi Babu, Prem and many others are also part of the supporting cast. Expectations were massive ever since the project’s announcement and from the initial response, one can easily say that the movie has lived up to the sky-high hype. It has opened to extremely positive reviews from all corners. Most leading critics have rated it as the finest gangster click to have come out of Tamil cinema.

Vetrimaaran, whose filmography boasts of acclaimed films like Polladhavan, Aadukalam and Visaaranai, has delivered yet another quality film that Tamil cinema can always be proud of. The years of research work done by Vetrimaaran has clearly reflected on the movie and its detailing. His skillful writing is the backbone as the screenplay is highly engrossing.

Vada Chennai is an epic gangster saga that spans different timelines. It has numerous characters with well-sketched arcs. Almost every actor who comes on screen manages to impress. Gautham Menon, Simbu and AR Rahman team up once gain!

Last day, it was announced that the superhit trio of Gautham Menon, Simbu and AR Rahman are set to join hands once again. Though details about their new project has not yet been officially revealed, fans are already excited. The combo had previously collaborated for Vinnaithaandi Varuvayaa (VTV) and Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada. Rahman’s music in both the films were hugely successful, so music lovers will be expecting another cracker of an album from the maestro.

Gautham Menon had earlier revealed about his plans to make a sequel to Vinnaithaandi Varuvayaa. But certain reports suggest that their upcoming film will not be VTV’s sequel, but an action-oriented mass entertainer. The director currently has two films in the post-production phase – Dhanush’s Enai Nokki Paayum Thotta (ENPT) and Dhruva Natchathiram with Vikram. Shoot for both the movies have been wrapped up. The long delayed romantic-thriller ENPT is expected to hit screens this year itself.

Simbu meanwhile is busy shooting for his upcoming movie with Sundar C, which is the official remake of Telugu blockbuster Attarintiki Daredi. He also has Maanadu, a political thriller with Venkat Prabhu coming up.

After the superhit success of ‘Padayottam’, Biju Menon is back with another fun entertainer in ‘Aanakallan’. The movie directed by Suresh Divakar of ‘Ivan Maryadharaman’ fame is hitting screens across Kerala tomorrow (October 18). ‘Aanakallan’ is touted to be a murder mystery with good dose of fun in it. The movie’s recently released trailer hinted at the same.

Scripted by Udhayakrishna, the movie has two female leads in Anusree and Shamna Kasim. Bala, Siddique, Sai Kumar, Kailas, Sarayu, Sudheer Karamana, Hareesh Kanaran, Suresh Krishna, Devan, Anil Murali, Janardhanan, Bindu Panicker and Priyanka form an elaborate supporting cast.

In the technical crew, Alby cranks the camera and John Kutty is in charge of the edits. Nadirshah has handled the music department. Biju Menon has lent his voice for a fun track in the movie, which has met with good response in social medias. ‘Aanakallan’ is being produced under the banner of Saptha Tarang Cinema.

Second look poster of the movie was released today in social medias. While the first look had Vijay Sethupathi as an old man, the new poster features him as a youngster in a warrior like attire.

‘Seethakaathi’ directed by Balaji Tharaneetharan has Vijay Sethupathi playing the role of a drama artist. He will be appearing in three different age groups – that of a 75, 50 and 30-year-old in the movie. The first look poster had him in a nearly unrecognizable look of a 75-year-old man. Oscar Award-winning make up artist Kevin Haney designed the actor’s look in the movie.

‘Seethakaathi’ has high expectations among the audience. Vijay Sethupathi has a performance oriented role in the movie and cinephiles are looking forward to see another smashing performance from him. The movie marks his reunion with director Balaji Tharaneetharan after the comic caper, ‘Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom’.

This upcoming movie’s cast includes Archana, J Mahendran, Bagavathy Perumal, Rajkumar, Parvatii Nair and Remya Nambeesan among others. Govind Vasantha, who is getting rave reviews for his work in ’96’, is handling the music department in this movie as well. It is being produced jointly by Sudhan Sundaram, Umesh, Jayaram and Arun Vaidyanathan under the banner of Passion Studios.

Marakkar – Arabikadalinte Simham is an epic period flick to be directed by Kalyani’s father, Priyadarshan. Superstar Mohanlal plays the lead role in the movie which also has a host of other stars like Pranav Mohanlal, Prabhu, Arjun, Mukesh and Suneil Shetty. Pooja Kumar, Kalyani and Keerthy Suresh will be seen as the female leads.

While Kalyani’s is a cameo appearance, it comes at a crucial juncture as a surprise element in the movie. Keerthy Suresh has been cast in a prominent role. She will be seen romancing a Chinese actor in the movie. It is slated to go on floors from November second week.
