Padayottam enters second week with housefull shows all over!

The Biju Menon starrer Padayottam continues to do well in all the release centres in Kerala. The movie has entered its second successful week of theatrical run with housefull shows in most centres. The four day long weekend is doing wonders for the movie at the box office. Multiplexes in Kochi and Trivandrum are having high occupancy and it is expected to be the same in the coming days as well. Despite facing stiff competition from all other films like Theevandi, Varathan and Saamy Square, Padayottam is moving forward strongly.

The movie directed by debutant Rafeek Ibrahim got released last on September 14 and opened to great response from the common audience. Critics have rated its a complete laughathon. The fact that it is a fun entertainer is pulling not just the youngsters, but families and kids as well.

After its good run in Kerala, Padayottam was released in UAE and GCC earlier this week. The was released in a good number of screens in areas like Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Alain, Sharjah, Fujairah, Oman, Baharain, Kuwait and Qatar. The word of mouth has largely been positive and hence has taken a good opening at the overseas box office.

Newcomers Arun AR and Ajai Rahul have scripted the movie as a travel-comedy revolving around an eventful journey from Trivandrum to Kasargod. Along with Biju Menon, Dileesh Pothan, Saiju Kurup, Sudhi Koppa and Basil Joseph play the other major roles. It is the crackling chemistry between the lead actors and the continuous fun element in the script that makes Padayottam a thoroughly enjoyable ride.

Sophia Paul of Weekend Blockbusters has produced the movie.

Watch out for Sharafudheen’s career best performance in Varathan!

Fahadh Faasil-Aishwarya Lekhsmi starrer Varathan is doing extremely well in theatres. Releasing on last Friday, the movie opened to highly positive reviews from both the critics and the commoners. Amal Neerad’s films have always had big following among the youth audience and its no different for Varathan also. Youngsters are thronging theatres in large numbers to watch this stylishly shot revenge-drama.

While Fahadh Faasil, Aishwarya Lekshmi and Amal Neerad deliver what was expected of them, it is Sharafudheen who leaves the audience awestruck. The actor who was getting typecast in sidekick roles has broken the shackles to deliver a remarkable performance. He was surprisingly menacing while playing a character with negative shades. Right from his introduction scene, Sharaf brings to fore the unseen side of his. Due credits to director Amal Neerad also for breaking the stereotypes and offering Sharaf a character out of his comfort zone.

Glimpses of Sharafudheen’s caliber was seen earlier this year in Venu’s Carbon and Jeethu Joseph’s Aadhi. Both the films had him playing the usual hero’s friend’s role, but they were unlike the goofy sidekick roles. In Carbon, even with the limited screentime Sharaf manages to leave a mark. With the unanimous appreciation for his performance in Varathan, Sharafudheen is expected to bag some meaty roles in upcoming projects.

Varathan Review: Riveting thriller with a terrific ending

Varathan Review: Riveting thriller with a terrific ending

Fahadh Faasil is in that phase of his career where the audience do not expect anything regular from him. His latest outing, Varathan looked highly promising from its intriguing posters and trailer. When Fahadh joins hands with Amal Neerad after the widely acclaimed Iyobinte Pusthakam, expectations are multifold. Let’s see if they’ve managed to live up to that.

Nothing much about Varathan’s plot can be revealed as it has a very wafer-thin storyline. It is the story of a UAE based couple Aby and Priya. Due to some problems in their professional front, the couple take a break and visit Priya’s ancestral property at Wagamon. This is where the real plot kick-starts. Anything more will end up as spoilers, so let’s not go there.

Amal Neerad is someone who has always put more emphasis on the technicalities and making side rather than the depth in the subject. In Varathan also its the same but the end result is completely satisfying for a commoner. Even with a simple plot, the director has managed to bring out something extraordinary with his finesse in execution.

After a very ordinary slow-paced first half, the movie takes a different trajectory in the latter half and towards the climax, it has some highly memorable sequences. Both the lead actors, Fahadh Faasil and Aishwarya Lekshmi had meaty roles to perform. The latter especially was up to the challenge of matching up to Fahadh and on the course proved that she is not just another one film wonder. Sharafudheen was another actor who had a crucial part to play and one can easily say that it’s his career best.

Technically, Varathan, like all other Amal Neerad films, was top-notch with brilliant cinematography by Littil Swayamp and eerie compositions by Sushin Shyam. Vivek Harshan’s stylish editing paved way to several ‘mass’ moments.

Overall, we can easily say that Varathan has lived up to the expectations or say exceeded it. If you’re patient enough to sit through the initial few portions, a real treat awaits you, especially in the last 30 minutes or so. This Fahadh starrer has more than enough elements to be enjoyed on a quality big screen.

Vaaren Vaaren: Here’s a new song from Seemaraja!

It has been exactly a week since the release of Sivakarthikeyan’s Seemaraja. Hitting screens on the auspicious occasion of Vinayaka Chathurthi, the movie opened to mixed reviews from critics. But the fact that it was a festival release and Sivakarthikeyan’s popularity among the families is doing wonders for the movie at the box office.

Seemaraja is the third outing of Sivakarthikeyan with director Ponram. A week after its release, the makers have released the video of the introduction song, Vaaren Vaaren. Diwakar and Kavitha Gopi have rendered the track, lyrics for which is penned by Yugabharathi. D Imman has composed the song.

The actor-director duo’s last two films, Rajini Murugan and Varuthapadatha Vaalibar Sangam, were commercially successful mass entertainers. Seemaraja is slightly different from their earlier ones with a tinge of historic backdrop and a relevant social message in it. The movie has Samantha as the female lead while Keerthy Suresh is there in an extended cameo role. Lal, Napolean, Simran and Soori are also part of the cast.
