Thugs of Hindostan: Check out the character introduction posters!

The highly anticipated period-flick ‘Thugs of Hindostan’ is getting ready for a grand release in November. Aamir Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Katrina Kaif and ‘Dangal’ fame Fathima Sana Sheikh are playing major roles in the movie. The character introduction posters of all the lead actors have been released. While Amitabh Bachchan plays Khudabaksh, commander of the thugs, Aamir Khan’s character is named as Firangi.

‘Thugs of Hindostan’ (ToH) is the first film where the two superstars will be sharing screen space. The movie is directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya of ‘Dhoom 3’ fame. It is an adaptation of the 1839 novel ‘Confessions of a Thug’. The movie is set in the 18th century and has pirates in the narrative.

Thugs of Hindostan is being made on a huge budget by Aditya Chopra’s Yash Raj Films. The movie is expected to create waves at the box office. Aamir Khan is known for his phenomenal success rate, and with senior Bachchan for company this time, collection records are most likely to be rewritten.

Tovino’s Oru Kuprasidha Payyan is one of the most awaited movies of the year. Trailer of the movie directed by Madhupal was released last day in social medias. This brilliantly cut trailer is intriguing and doesn’t let out much about the plot. Jeevan Job Thomas has scripted the movie as a murder investigation story based on some real life incidents. Anu Sithara and Nimisha Sajayan play the two female leads.

Oru Kuprasidha Payyan is eagerly awaited by Malayali cinephiles as Madhupal is a much revered filmmaker. His earlier two films – Thalappavu and Ozhimuri – were widely acclaimed that won numerous accolades as well. The director is making a comeback after six long years so expectations are naturally on the higher side.

According to Madhupal, Oru Kuprasidha Payyan is a relevant story that is based on many true incidents. Compared to his previous films, this one will have a more commercial appeal. The trailer also hints at the same. Tovino, in such a short career, has already proven his ability to portray challenging roles. Madhupal had earlier said that the audience can see an unseen side of Tovino in this movie.

The movie has an ensemble supporting cast comprising of Tamil actress Saranya Ponvannan, Lijomol Jose, Nedumudi Venu, Siddique, producer Suresh Kumar, Dileesh Pothan, Sujith Sankar, Alencier Ley Lopez, Sudeer Karamana, Saiju Kurup and Balu Varghese. The movie produced by V Cinemas is expected to hit screens next month.

Seemaraja continues its good run in the second week!!

Seemaraja has crossed its 10th day of theatrical run and the movie continues to do well in Tamil Nadu. Releasing on the auspicious occasion of Vinayaka Chathurthi (September 13), the Sivakarthikeyan starrer opened to mixed reviews from critics. But the fact that it was a festival release and the actor’s popularity among the masses has worked in the movie’s favour.

Seemaraja is the third outing of Sivakarthikeyan with director Ponram. The actor-director duo’s last two films, Rajini Murugan and Varuthapadatha Vaalibar Sangam, were commercially successful mass entertainers. Seemaraja is slightly different from their earlier ones with a tinge of historic backdrop and a relevant social message in it. The movie has Samantha as the female lead while Keerthy Suresh is there in an extended cameo role. Lal, Napolean, Simran and Soori are also part of the cast.

Despite facing stiff competition from films like Saamy Square, Seemaraja is unshaken, especially in the rural areas of Tamil Nadu. The movie is expected to continue its good run for the coming days as well.

‘Jigarthanda’ fame Gavemic U Ary to wield the camera for ‘Unda’

As we already know, Mammootty is teaming up for ‘Anuraga Karikkin Vellam’ fame Khalid Rahman for a cop-action film titled ‘Unda’. The movie was officially announced recently with a title poster introducing the crew. The makers have assembled a distinctive technical team. Gavemic U Ary will be cranking the camera and Prashanth Pillai will be handling the music department. For action choreography, the makers have signed Shaam Kaushal from Bollywood.

Cinematographer Gavemic U Ary is noted for his works in films like ‘Jigarthanda’, ‘Nil Battey Sannata’ and ‘Bareilly Ki Barfi’. He is also the DOP of the ongoing Suriya-KV Anand film. ‘Unda’ marks his first film in Malayalam and he is expected to deliver his best here. The movie has been planned to be shot in exotic locations in North Indian states like Chattisgarh and Jharkhand. This particular terrain has not been explored much in Malayalam cinema, so ‘Unda’ promises to be a visual treat for the audience.

Khalid Rahman’ directorial debut ‘Anuraga Karikkin Vellam’ was a delightful family oriented rom-com that was both a critical and commercial hit. His maturity in handling a family subject right at the start of his career was noteworthy. Much is expected of him when he teams up with such a big star like Mammootty. Khalid has penned the story of ‘Unda’ and screenplay is by Harshad. Other crew members include editor Nishad Yusuf, art director Sabu Mohan, production controller Badusha, costume designer Mashar Hamsa and sound designers Vishnu Govind-Sree Sankar.

‘Unda’ is being produced by Krishnan Sethukumar. Movie Mill is presenting it in association with Gemini Studio. The movie is slated to go on floors next month and is scheduled to hit screens in January, 2019.

National award winner Minon to play the role of late Abhimanyu in ‘Naan Petta Makan’; Here’s the motion poster

The story of 20-year-old Abhimanyu, who lost his life three months back in Maharajas College, is set to be told on big screen. The movie titled as ‘Naan Petta Makan’ will have Minon John playing Abhimanyu’s role. Newbie Saji S Palamel is directing the movie. A motion poster introducing Minon as Abhimanyu has been released online.

The movie was officially announced last day in an emotional press meet held in Trivandrum. The press meet was attended by Minon, director Saji S Palamel, Abhimanyu’s parents Manoharan and Bhoopathy, friends, neighbors and some other important people. CPI (M) Polit Bureau member MA Baby was the chief guest.

Abhimanyu M, an undergraduate student at Maharaja’s College, was stabbed to death during a clash on the college campus around 12.45 AM on July 2. He was an activist of the Students Federation of India (SFI). Abhimanyu’s murder will remain as a dark chapter in the history of Kerala’s student politics.
When his story is brought alive on screen, the makers have a big task ahead of them.

While Minon plays Abhimanyu’s role, State Award winner Indrans will be appearing in his father’s role.
Minon is best known for his National award winning performance in ‘101 Chodyangal’. Shoot for ‘Naan Petta Makan’ will be commencing in November. The makers have planned to shoot majorly in Ernakulam and Abhimanyu’s hometown, Vattavada.

IARA 2018: Vijay wins Best International Actor award for Mersal

Tamil actor Vijay has been honoured by the International Achievement Recognitions Awards (IARA) 2018.The UK based company has bestowed Vijay with the Best International Actor award for the year 2018. He won the award for his performance in a triple role in last year’s blockbuster film, Mersal. The award ceremony took place on September 22 in London but Vijay couldn’t attend the event due to his other commitments. Reportedly, the awards were based solely on audience’s voting.

Interestingly, this is not the first time Mersal is getting an international level recognition. The movie had recently won the prestigious Best Foreign Language Film Award at the 4th annual National Film Awards UK for 2018. The Atlee directorial was India’s official entry to the NFA and it competed with films from various other countries like, France, Russia, Germany, Sweden, Chile, South Africa etc. Mersal was also the first Indian film to win the foreign language film award at the NFA, UK.

Mersal is one of the highest grossing films of all time in Tamil cinema. Vijay played triple roles in the movie while Samantha, Kajal Agarwal and Nithya Menen played the female leads. The movie caught nationwide attention after a section of doctors and the ruling BJP staged protests and demanded for boycotting the movie. The protagonist in the film fights for free medical facilities to all, regardless of their financial background. A few dialogues criticising the government’s schemes like demonetization and GST caused the trouble.

The controversy proved to be a blessing in disguise for Mersal team as the movie went on to do phenomenal busines worldwide. Thenandal Studios Limited produced the movie.

Ever since the demise of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, there have been several reports about plans to make a biopic on her illustrious life. Already 3 filmmakers – AL Vijay, Bharathiraja and Priyadarshini have announced their projects. All three of them are currently in the pre-production phase.

Priyadarshini, a former associate of Mysskin, is making her directorial debut with this movie titled ‘The Iron Lady’. Nithya Menen will be playing Jayalalithaa’s part while Varalaxmi Sarath Kumar has been approached in to essay Sasikala’s role. The movie comes with the tagline ‘A story of revolutionary leader’. The makers have also quoted Hillary Clinton’s comment on Jayalalithaa in the poster, which reads, “She is an incomparable and strong determined leader, and she has been an embodiment of women empowerment.”

While Nithya Menen has already signed for her part, Varalaxmi is yet to give the nod as she is currently in Amsterdam. She is expected to sign the dotted lines once she returns back. The makers are also in talks with some other top actors and leading technicians. Since Jayalalithaa is a hugely popular figure in the Indian political arena, the movie requires extensive research works. The team is planning to go on floors on Jayalalithaa’s birthday, February 24, 2019.

Madhu, one of the senior most actors in Malayalam film industry, is celebrating his birthday today. Mohanlal joined the actor in the birthday celebrations and cake cutting. The actor posted pictures on his official social media handle and wished Madhu a very happy returns of the day.

Mohanlal and Madhu share a great rapport, both on and off screen. They have acted together in numerous films like Naduvazhikal, Padayottam, Varnapakittu, Spirit, Hello, Naran etc. After a long gap, they are coming together in ace filmmaker Priyadarshan’s magnum opus Marakkar – Arabikadalinte Simham, which is based on the life of the fourth Kunjali Markkar.

Kunjali Marakkar was the title given to the naval chief in the 16th century, whose duty was to protect the coast against the invading Portuguese army. There were four key Kunjali Marakkars during that era and Madhu is playing the first among them. As Kutyali Marakkar, he has a prominent role in the movie. Mohanlal is supposedly playing the fourth Marakkar.

As we already know, the 2017 Telugu blockbuster ‘Arjun Reddy’ is getting remade in Tamil as ‘Varma’. Actor Vikram’s son Dhurv is making his debut by playing the titular role in this movie. Today, on his birthday, the makers have released the first look and teaser. Though the first look was a bit amateurish, the teaser is impressive. Dhruv Vikram is solid and convincing in his two different looks. The movie has debutante Megha Chowdhury playing the female lead.

‘Varma’ is directed by National Award winner Bala. The is famous for his intense style of filmmaking with most of his films having a dark and disturbing nature, but here in ‘Varma’, he has showcased an unseen side of his. The colorful visuals and music in the teaser is not something one would expect from a Bala film but the director has done well and that proves his versatility.

‘Arjun Reddy’ directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga had Vijay Deverakonda and Shalini Pandey in the lead roles. The movie tells the story of an impulsive medical surgeon who falls madly in love with his college junior. He becomes alcoholic post break-up and the rest of the story is about how he redeems himself. Vijay Deverakonda’s stellar performance was widely talked about.

Dhruv has a big challenge ahead of him as comparisons are bound to be made with Deverakonda. The movie is also being remade in Hindi with Shahid Kapoor. The technical crew of ‘Varma’ includes cinematographer Sukumar and composer Radhan, who composed the music in ‘Arjun Reddy’ as well.
It is the maiden Tamil production venture of Mollywood’s leading banner, E4 Entertainment.
