Sivakarthikeyan’s latest release ‘Seemaraja’ is doing well across all centres in Tamil Nadu despite the mixed reviews from critics. The actor’s massive popularity among the kids and families have clearly worked in the movie’s favour. Siva currently has some exciting projects lined up and the latest one to the list is a film with director PS Mithran of ‘Irumbuthirai’ fame.

In a recent interview, the director revealed that he is joining hands with Sivakarthikeyan for a thriller with a social message. From what we hear, the movie sounds to be on lines with Irumbuthirai, one of the most successful ventures in Tamil cinema this year. Vishal starred as an army man in the film that discussed about cyber terrorism. Samantha and Arjun played the other major roles. PS Mithran’s debut work was appreciated by the critics and he was decalred as a sensible filmmaker to watch out for.

Mithran’s upcoming film with Sivakarthikeyan will start rolling next year. George C Willaims will be cranking the camera and Ruben wikl be handling the edits. RD Raja’s 24 AM Studios will be producing the movie. The banner has previously associated with Sivakarthikeyan for films like Remo, Velaikkaran and Seemaraja. The actor’s upcoming sci-fi film with director Ravikumar is also funded by the same banner.

Confirmed: Arjun joins Marakkar – Arabikadalinte Simham

Priyadarshan’s magnum opus Marakkar – Arabikadalinte Simham with Mohanlal is getting ready to go on floors on Kerala Piravi Day (November 1). Pre-production works for the movie are currently underway. Massive set works are progressing in Ramoji Rao, Film City in Hyderabad. This epic film has been planned to be made on a budget of over Rs 100 crores. Aashirvad Cinemas, Confident Group and Moonshot Entertainment are jointly funding this movie.

As announced earlier by the makers, Marakkar – Arabikadalinte Simham is a multi-lingual and will have top actors from all major Indian languages. Mohanlal, his son Pranav, Prabhu and Suneil Shetty were already confirmed in the cast. Latest to join the team is Arjun Sarja, popularly known as ‘action king’. The veteran actor is has been signed to play a very crucial role in the movie.

Markkar – Arabikadalinte Simham tells the story of Kunjali Marakkar and Mohanlal plays the titular role. Kunjali Marakkar was the title given to the naval chief in the 16th century, to protect the coast against the invading Portuguese army. There were four key Kunjali Marakkars during that era. This movie’s story is reportedly based on the fourth Marakkar whose life apparently had the most interesting events.

According to director Priyadarshan, the characters of Arjun and Suneil Shetty are based on people who existed in real life. Since history has very few details about them, the makers have taken the liberty to present a fictionalised version. The movie will be a semi-fictious one with bits of history and imagination.

Seasoned actors like Madhu, Nedumudi Venu, Siddique and Renji Panicker have been roped in for supporting roles. The makers are in also talks with some non-Malayali heroines and an official announcement is expected to be made shortly. In the technical front, Priyadarshan has got Sabu Cyril to handle the production design. National award winner Tirru will be the DOP. Some other leading technicians from India and abroad will also be associated with this ambitious project.

After the success of ‘Iyobinte Pusthakam’, director Amal Neerad and Fahadh Faasil are back with ‘Varathan’. The movie has been censored with a U/A certificate and is all set for release tomorrow (September 20). It has a run time of 2 hours and 10 minutes. ‘Varathan’ is expected to be released in a good number of screens in Kerala, though it faces stiff competition from other new releases like ‘Oru Kuttanadan Blog’, ‘Ranam’, ‘Theevandi’ and ‘Padayottam’.

Varathan is a very interesting film that movie buffs are eagerly looking forward to. The movie had a very intriguing trailer that didn’t divulge anything about the plot. Nothing much is known about the movie, including its genre, as the makers had kept all details under the wraps throughout the shoot time. Newcomers Sharfu and Suhas have scripted the movie.

‘Varathan’ has Aishwarya Lekshmi of ‘Mayaanadhi’ and ‘Njandukalude Naatil Oridavela’ fame playing the female lead. Sharafudheen, ‘Parava’ fame Arjun Ashokan, Vijilesh, Dileesh Pothan and ‘Guppy’ fame Master Chethan Lal are part of the supporting cast. Its technical crew includes DOP Littil Swayamp, music director Sushin Shyam and editor Vivek Harshan. Songs composed by Sushin have already emerged as big hits.

Fahadh Faasil’s wife, actress Nazriya is venturing into production by funding this movie jointly with the director’s home banner Amal Neerad Productions.

Vijay-Murugadoss combo’s Sarkar is gearing up for a grand Diwali release in November. As the release date is nearing, the makers are commencing the promotions with a single release. First song from the movie will be released online on September 24, 6 PM. The update was made today through Sun Pictures’ official social media handle. It is expected to be a fast and energetic dance number. Meastro AR Rahman is composing music for Sarkar. It is his second successive film Vijay after the blockbuster Mersal, so expectations are sky-high.

Sarkar is a political thriller featuring Vijay in the role of a multi-millionaire. Reports from Kollywood medias suggest that Sarkar is loaded with hard-hitting dialogues that discuss the current political scenario in the state of Tamil Nadu.
The movie has Keerthy Suresh paired with Vijay while Varalaxmi Sarath Kumar also plays a very prominent character. Pala Karuppaiah, Radha Ravi, Livingston, Yogi Babu, Prem and many others are also part of the movie’s supporting cast.

Sarkar’s technical crew includes AR Rahman, Malayali cinematographer Girish Gangadharan and ace editor Sreekar Prasad. Sun Pictures is making their comeback to production by funding this big ticket film. The makers are planning to host a grand audio launch function next month.

Recently, Aashiq Abu had announced that his next film will be based on the deadly Nipah outbreak in Kerala. The movie titled as Virus boasts of an ensemble cast comprising of Revathy, Tovino Thomas, Parvathy, Asif Ali, Rima Kallingal, Kalidas Jayaram, Soubin Shahir, Dileesh Pothan, Chemban Vinod Jose and Remya Nambeeshan. Cinephiles are highly excited about such a big cast coming together for a real-event based movie like Virus.

We have now learnt that Kalidas Jayaram has been replaced by Sreenath Bhasi in the movie. We presume Kalidas packed schedule to be the reason for opting out of such a big project. He has a busy year ahead of him as he has committed for films with directors Jeethu Joseph, Alphonse Puthran, Midhun Manuel Thomas and Santhosh Sivan.

Sreenath Bhasi is a regular in Aashiq Abu films and the talented youngster has reportedly bagged a meaty role in Virus. Besides the aforementioned actors, the movie will also have Fahadh Faasil in a crucial guest role. Virus is scripted jointly by Muhsin Parari of ‘KL 10 Pathu’ fame and Suhas and Sharfu, the writers of ‘Varathan’. The makers are trying to tell the world a story about how the Malayali community stood united to tackle the virus. Nipah virus had took 17 lives in Kerala this year.

Contrary to reports, Virus is not an anthology film but has interconnected stories set all over Kerala. The movie has veteran actress Revathy playing the role of Health Minister KK Shailaja and Rima Kallingal as nurse Lini Puthussery, who contracted Nipah and passed away while treating the virus affected patients. Tovino Thomas will be seen in the role of Kozhikode collector UV Jose.

Its technical crew includes National award winning cinematographer Rajeev Ravi, composer Sushin Shyam and editor Saiju Sreedharan. The movie is set to go on floors from December and it has been planned as a Vishu release, next April.

Thala Ajith is currently shooting for Viswasam, his upcoming movie with director Siva. Touted to be a mass commercial entertainer, the movie has Ajith in a dual role. A few stills from the movie’s location have been leaked and are going viral in social medias. It seems like the photos were taken during the shoot of a fight sequence. Ajith and a couple of others are seen standing on a caged boxing ring.

Viswasam has Ajith in two different looks for the dual roles. One has him in his trademark salt and pepper look while he sports a younger look for the other part. Nayanthara plays the female lead in the movie. Other supporting cast includes Vivek, Ravia Wana, Anikha, Thambi Ramaiah, Bose Venkat, Robo Shankar, Kovai Sarala and Yogi Babu.

Viswasam is Ajith’s fourth film with director Siva after Veeram, Vedhalam and Vivegam. While Veeram and Vedhalam were regular mass entertainers, Vivegam was an ambitious attempt in making a spy-thriller. The movie made on a lavish budget with a big star cast failed to impress the critics. Ajith and Siva will be hoping to comeback to winning ways.

Viswasam’s technical crew includes cinematographer Vetri, composer D Imman and editor Ruben. Sathya Jyothi Films, who funded Ajith-Siva combo’s Vivegam, is producing this upcoming movie as well.

After a two-year-long gap, Aamir Khan is back, this time with the company of Amitabh Bachchan. The two superstars are teaming up for the first time in ‘Thugs of Hindostan’ (ToH), an epic film directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya. The movie which is an adaptation of the 1839 novel ‘Confessions of a Thug’ has Aamir, Bachchan, Katrina Kaif and ‘Dangal’ fame Fathima Sana Sheikh in the lead roles. ToH is gearing up for a worldwide release on November 8.

As the release date is nearing, the makers have kick-started the promotions. Last day, the official logo was released. Today, Amitabh Bachchan’s character was introduced with a motion poster. He plays the role of Khudabaksh, who is the commander of the thugs. Amitabh Bachchan looks the part perfectly with sword in his hand, an armour on his body, a turban on his head. He is seen as a commander of a massive ship as he gets ready for war. The movie is set in the 18th century and has pirates in the narrative.

Cinephiles across the country are eagerly looking forward to the revelation of Aamir Khan’s look. The actor who is known to undergo massive physical transformations must’ve done something extraordinary this time as well. Aamir is said to be playing the role of a pirate, for which he had got multiple piercings on his nose and ears. During the shoot, Aamir was seen in a nearly unrecognizable look with with long hair and unkempt beard.

Thugs of Hindostan is being made on a huge budget by Aditya Chopra’s Yash Raj Films. The movie is expected to create waves at the box office. Aamir Khan is known for his phenomenal success rate, and with senior Bachchan for company this time, records are likely to be rewritten.

Sivakarthikeyan’s Seemaraja hit screens last day, on the auspicious occasion of Vinayaka Chathurthi. Being a festive release, the movie was expected to have a grand opening and it has done exactly the same. It is being reported that the movie has done a business of over Rs 40 crores globally. As per a statement released by the makers, 24 AM Studios, Seemaraja had grossed a whopping Rs 13.50 crore from 550 screens in Tamil Nadu alone. The four-day festival weekend (13-16 September) of Vinayaka Chaturthi turned out extremely well for the movie

As per reports from trade experts, Seemaraja has grossed Rs 27 crore from the extended four-day opening weekend in Tamil Nadu alone. It also topped the Chennai city box office with figures of around Rs 3.50 crores. As reported by us earlier, Seemaraja is only the sixth film to cross the Rs 1 crore mark in the first day in Chennai city box office. Other films to achieve this milestone were Theri, Kabali, Vivegam, Mersal, and Kaala. Despite the mixed reviews, the movie is also doing well in overseas centres like US and UAE.

Seemaraja is the third outing of Sivakarthikeyan and director Ponram after delivering hits with Rajini Murugan and Varuthapadatha Vaalibar Sangam. Samantha plays the female lead while Keerthy Suresh is there in an extended cameo role. Lal, Napolean, Simran and Soori also part of the cast.

CBI series director K Madhu all set to make a comeback

K Madhu is a director well known for his suspense-thriller films. His collaboration with Mammootty and writer SN Swamy resulted in the most popular franchise of Mollywood – the CBI series. They have already made four films in the franchise and talks about a fifth film are still doing the rounds. Meanwhile, the director announced a mega two-part project based on the lives of Travancore’s legendary kings, Marthanda Varma and Karthika Varma. ‘Baahubali’ star Rana Daggubati is starring in the first film, Anizham Thirunal Marthanda Varma – The King of Travancore. The director is currently in Canada for the movie’s pre-production works.

Along with that, K Madhu is also set to make a comeback as a producer. His production house, Krishna Kripa, will be backing two films next year. One will be directed by Arun Gopy and the other by M Padmakumar. Arun Gopy, who is a former associate of K Madhu, made his directorial debut with the superhit ‘Ramaleela’. He is currently working with Pranav Mohanlal for a movie titled ‘Irupathiyonnam Noottandu’.

After that, Arun Gopy will start works for his film to be funded by K Madhu’s banner. The movie is being scripted by Udhayakrishna. M Padmakumar’s film is scripted by Robin Thirumala. Casting for both the films have not yet been finalized but talks within the industry suggest that the makers are in talks with some big stars.

Dhanesh Anand hailing from Balussery, Kozhikode is making his acting debut with Lilli, a survival thriller directed by Prasobh Vijayan. The movie has Theevandi fame Samyuktha Menon in the titular role. It is a thrilling story of a pregnant woman being kidnapped by a group and her attempts to break free. Dhanesh plays Rajesh, one of the villains in the movie.

Lilli is the maiden venture of E4 Experiments. It is a new banner launched by E4 Entertainments with the objective of promoting young talents and doing low-budget films.

The movie is slated for release on September 28.
